Circuit City closing 19 stores

I'm from Southeastern MI too, and as cool as this may be for liquidation purposes... it also sucks in the sense that every other CC in the area is going to get hit extra hard during clearances and sales... and inventory will move much more swiftly, greatly reducing the chance of cashing in on any good deals that may arise in the future.
I'm actually shocked that one on 38th St. in Indy hadn't closed sooner. That place is a dump.

R~
Yes but I got some killer deals there since no one shops there. They need to open one in Avon or Plainfield and one on West 86th Street.

38th Street is dying.....

Called the store here (Bloomington, IN) and they said that the only thing that'll be left in the store when they open on Friday will be the open-box stuff.

It's also ripped all to hell with construction and no one in their right mind would go down there if they didn't have to (east side anyway), so I'm not surprised they're not getting any business there. I might make the trip south if we get word of any decent sale amounts, but for the traffic headaches, I won't chance it if we have nothing to go on by Saturday.

You'd think the CC's would spend those two days doing more than packing up merchandise to ship to other stores, but who knows. Could be some decents sales... could just be a great big 10% off suckfest.

Nice to see the Castleton store isn't closing, though.

that makes sense I suppose. Stuff that can be sold at full retail at another location can just be shipped there. Doesnt sound like it'll be THAT much of a good deal then, there cant be that much open box stuff.

Whew, almost had a scare there. Glad the one near my house isnt closing. I go there a lot to buy games and dvds. Not to mention PM stuff from other stores that are really far away.

Damn, two stores that I go to, Southfield and East Lansing, MI are closing. I'm very disappointed, and I'm really not expecting anything good in the way of going out of business sales.

I'm gonna miss the Lufkin, Tx. store as well. :( I got quite a bit of clearence games at that location because the employees were slow to mark them. At least the Tyler store made it but I liked the Lufkin store much more.

Crap, Westland will be no more. I always found the best selection at that location because everyone else usually stuck to the more upscale locations. Now I'm going to have to duke it out with the rest of these Columbus CAG's! There probably won't be crap at Westland on Friday since it's going to be so easy to just distribute all stock to the other Columbus locations. It's a sad day for this CAG.
The two nearest me (Pontiac and Southfield) are gone

I also live in SE MI and those are the two CC nearest to me. They don't have quite as many older games, but there is always the newest CC located in the Great Lakes Crossing Mall.
There's always the one farther down telegraph in Southfield, or you come visit Novi's CC and stop in my Comic shop :)

The Lorain Road CC was a little bit more west on Lorain past the North Olmsted TRU. I only stopped there once by accident. I didn't even know before then there was a CC there! It doesn't surprise me the CC at Parmatown is closing. I rarely see many cars there. I haven't checked out the Brooklyn CC yet, though.

Excellent...I don't think many people know that CC is closing up here in TC. Let's just keep this on the DL, and I may actually be able to afford some games. I'm arriving at opening, just before my differential equations test.

Thanks, now I remember  . I usually come from the other direction on Lorain if I go to that TRU. The Brooklyn CC is right between Lowe's and Marcs in Ridgepark Square (It's behind the Texas Roadhouse, great food! yum!).

The one at my mall is surviving at least but if one of the $5 sales ever happens again it will be about it. The nonColumbus Ohio ones are all within an hour or so. Gonna have to try one or two Friday.

One of those is about 1.5 hours away from me. Anyone think it might be worth it to head out?

I hate Houston traffic.
Houston Traffic isn't a problem, its more like an adventure.
Houston traffic is not bad, as long as you are used to it. That said, YES! Houston location closing!

Demoman takes a look at the list while holding his breath... after looking he lets go and takes a long deep CAG assed breath and calms down... after a moment he jumps up and down in hyperexcitement....

MY STORE IS... NOT... CLOSING!!!!!

LONG LIVE 3624 COON RAPIDS, MN!!!!! :D
Hmm.......I thought for sure one of the TWO Circuit City's in Lincoln Park (Chicago) would be closing. Weird.
I thought having two stores so close together (on Addison and Elston, was it?) was kinda strange, but then I heard that one of 'em had some of the highest sales (and foot traffic) of any CC in the country. If your volume is that high, you can probably afford to have another store nearby.

F*ck! they're closing the Skokie, Ill CC. That's where I could always find the games I wanted, like FFXI for $37. This sucks, for me.
I live 5 minutes away from the same one. I hope they'll at least have a closing sale.
i live close to that one too....and i'm all about that sale!

Not too shocking that they are closing it...I mean, it's right across the street from a very successful Best Buy.
Is there another one in/near Columbus? I might be going to OSU for college so it might suck ass if there isn't a CC nearby.
This is an important college selection criterion that is often over-looked by high school guidance counselors.

Anyone stop there today to see what's on sale? If you did, please post. I'll probably stop by the Parmatown CC store in a couple hours after work.

I called earlier; they'd sent all media back to corporate, she said, so that meant no games, no movies, no cds. Just the big stuff, which I don't really need right now.

yep, what swick said. Nothing at mine except computers and tv's that really weren't that much cheaper than usual.

Got to CC today right when it opened, and boy was it crowded! The parking lot was completely full, and people were actually shoving to get inside to find... not much of anything. Everything was open-box merchandise, so no games, movies, or CD's, and the biggest discount I saw was about 30%. Needless to say, I left empty-handed, and I have no intention of going back (the sale supposedly lasts a week) or checking out any other CC's that are closing.

I went over to the Lufkin, TX store to see what was up. Man, it was freaking packed. I have never seen so many people in there before.

Anyway, there were zero games, movies, music .. anything. The only items they had left were more expensive ones -- digital cameras, televisions, computers, speakers, etc. You get the idea. There were some deals, but nothing good enough to convince me to go on a spending spree.

Just a heads up in case anyone lives nearby (yeah, right) and was thinking of making a trip over there ... don't bother.

The N. Olmsted and Summit Mall CC have been very kind to me. I got in on the post-holiday clearance of 2003/2004 and scored pretty well with those two stores. Now I live right by the Easton CC in Columbus, which theoretically has a great location, but is nigh impossible to actually find how to get into the parking lot. Hardly anyone shops this store, but I figure they're keeping it open because of the potential (still, its crazy) for the location. The new CC at Polaris is huge, and too well-maintained. I tried looking for games a few weeks back during the supposed red dot sale, noticed everything was in its place, neat and alphabetical, and that I had no chance of finding any good deals. I prefer my CC run-down and the game section a big mess. When a crazy $5/game sale hits, I know I have the patience to look through a messy, unorganized game rack to find a rare gem hidden behind 6 copies of some mainstream game that most fatwallet/ebay horders do not.

Best deal from this sale: they were handing out 10% off coupons for your next purchase at a store that isn't closing. (expires 3-31-05)

I noticed...hey thanks CC, I appreciate it that your idea of a nearby store is about an hour away. Also your excuse about the market not being able to carry a store is bs, you're just pissed the new BB was taking all your business.

I really laughed out loud on this one . . .

Visiting potential colleges: 15 min. tour of campus, grab a stack of brochures . . . spend the rest of the day checking out all of the local game stores. One needs to have their priorites in order!

Bahahah - dude, if you're going to college, you can't afford to be buying games.
