Circuit City to close 69 stores, expect clearance sales
I'm glad not that many are closing in the US. Circuit City has been one of the best B&M stores to get clerance deals.

I hate going out of business sales. Stuff is usually marked back up to full price and the discounts are small. People see a store is going out of business and think 10% - 30% off is a deal and by the time the percentages get to a good level, anything worth picking up is gone.
EXACTLY!!! I remember the Sam Goody stores that closed, as well as the TRU ones, most of the good merchandise that I normally look at(games) were either picked over or totally trashed by the time they reached my sweet spot to buy, that spot being 50-60% off or MORE.

And, forget about buying one of those wall units or game system display models, they're overpriced for crap that has been in use for 16-18 hours a day since they possibly opened. $300 for a PS2 and the old junk tv it was playing on? NO THANKS!!

However, I'm still kicking myself in the ass over not buying Silent Hill 3 out in Jersey at a Sam Goody I hit on one of their final days in business. It was UNDER $5 and could've saved me about $25-30 from buying it from Gamestop later on.

My sympathy goes out to any CAGs who may lose their jobs due to these closings though.

Why the sympathy? The odds of anyone on this board being employed at any of the stores is so miniscule, that I really highly doubt it. Someone would have posted inside info by now if they were working at a store that was closing.

I got some pretty sweet deals on DVDs when they closed the Sam Goodys/Suncoasts- my girlfriend and I hit a couple of different ones and cleaned up. I think we got 35 DVDs between the two of us and spent maybe $140.

I don't understand why stores tell me "we can check inventory at our other stores in 2 seconds!". Why do I care? I'm here NOW. If you could keep sh!t in stock, you wouldn't NEED to do it that fast. Morons.

I hope they close the CC near me- it's way ghetto. I hate going there.

I hope the Columbus, Indiana store is one that's closing. It won't because it's only a coulple years old. They have never, not once, had a deal posted on these boards. When I go there for something in their ad, they don't even have that. I don't know how many times I've heard, "We have never carried that." Why is it in the ad in the Columbus newspaper then? "We don't have any control over what's in the ad. The ad is corporate and even says 'at participating stores'." You'd think once they would carry something in their "corporate" ad.

The one here in Martinsville, VA was only a couple of years old before they closed it.

Why wouldn't they ship some of their stock to other CC stores? I can see some stuff, but I don't see a HUGE sale on new TV's and stuff, but I could be wrong.

I use to work at one in 2002 or so and they ended up closing it the following new year, good riddens. Anyway they ship most of the stuff out of the store to other stores or return it. The only thing left at the time was (Few TV's, Some Audio, Couple stands, and open box crap). Things that were trash to begin with were still bought haha the place got cleaned out.

I would be surprised if they keep the CD/Games intact when closing.
Found this list of the closing stores online, no specifics though:

Norfolk, Va.
Boston
Chicago

I figured they'd be closing one in Chicago. They built a new store a couple years ago in Lincoln Park but it's in a terrible location, east of the river and just off of North Ave.

It's right next to a busy Best Buy and adjacent shopping district, but 1 block over on a street that's more on an industrial alley filled with scrap metal/junk yards. There's no street parking and traffic is bad all day long since you have junker pick-ups, loaded up with old water heaters and such along with homeless guys pushing shopping carts full of soda cans blocking the streets as they pull in to unload. I can't imagine why they even built this - there's a bigger store a 1/2 mile away on Elston.

I went to the one in Cincinnati, (Eastgate to be exact). Not much left there just some display tv's and stands. All the software and games were shipped out to another store. I got a nice tv stand for about 100 bucks.
