[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I think its more of a point of, I was an early supporter and I am still a big Nintendo supporter...I dont want the same games I already got as an exclusive reward. I spent my money to earn platinum yet again and I dont want a reward that I have already been given. I think at this point its pretty obvious they have decided to release GBA games on the Wii U instead of the 3DS....why, I have no idea. Several (nearly all) of the GBA ambassador games are already on the Wii U VC now, including Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion.

Edit: Yep, all but 3 of the GBA games are on the Wii U VC...Mario Kart, Mario vs DK, and Fire Emblem are the only ones not released. With the release pattern theyve had for them, I would expect these to be some of the next GBA games added to Wii U. I think the VC selection on both systems is kinda ridiculous considering how spread out they are. I had high hopes for several games but they seem to not care about releasing very many.
Oh yeah if that was the only thing they were offering then you would definitely have a reason to be unhappy. In the unlikely scenario that they ever did offer them hopefully it would be as a choice among rewards as they normally do. Then you're allowed to feel slighted.

I don't see why Nintendo doesn't just price those games higher. The 3DS was "overpriced" by $80 and they offered what, 10 free games? Make the games $8 each to anyone who wants to buy them... maybe $10 so those loyal early adopters got a "deal". Maybe Nintendo allows a one time trade-in of an Ambassador game for another to appease that crowd... but now we're getting too complicated.
It was about 20 VC games, 10 NES and 10 GBA i believe. Most of the NES games are released on both systems I think. No GBA games are on 3DS yet and 7 of the 10 are on Wii U. The GBA games on the Wii U are already 7.99 lol.

Yeah I dont think itll happen, I am expecting something like Animal Crossing trading cards or buttons lol. I have no problem with them selling the games, hell I want GBA games on 3DS...it just makes more sense to have the handheld VC games on the eshop for the handheld 3DS lol. I just dont want that as a reward...I would like something Zelda personally. As far as the eShop goes...I need some Castlevania GBA games personally...give me those and Ill be happy.

At least we can all agree that whatever they give us is going to be a massive disappointment for most and we'll all complain about it for months.

The GBA Castlevania games on 3DS would be awesome.  Oh how I hate that they won't put GBA games on there.

Nintendo isn't releasing GBA games on 3DS because right now they only run when the system is in DS mode, so none of the 3DS or Virtual Console features will work on them.

My posters I got from last year are sitting in my closet unopened. My platinum playing cards deck is sitting in a drawer, those I opened to thumb through twice and back they went. I do have the gold nunchuk, but once again its sitting in a drawer unused. Just going to sit on these things and maybe sell them in a few years.

The one thing Id love, and would display would be that original mario statue, I was tempted by the luigi one but seemed too pricy. Something similar to those would be amazing, but of course we'll probably get something a little better than a stick in the eye this year.

I bet if you don't have to go through what you did with their support staff to get your damaged CD replaced this year you'll take it as a win.
Bah - I never did deal with mine. Here it sits still cracked... It wasn't even worth the effort for me.

You experienced the pain of the process vicariously through vic instead.

Yeah, cause dealing with incompetent people and calling them out is such a change of pace for me.

Well here you do it for fun and recreation. There you were trying to get something accomplished.

We already got a Mario statue one year.

I can think of a few things I'd be happy with and not complain about. I mean last year I actually took a game I already owned several times in the past (but not currently) because the other stuff was so crappy. The year before was an extremely niche present in the cards. When regular rewards they have are better than the actual Platinum rewards, that's a problem IMO. I didn't qualify the year of the buttons but I mean as a display piece I actually thought those were pretty awesome...

Give me a decently made miniature Master Sword and/or Shield. A cool figurine/statue I'd be ok with at this point...countless ones could be awesome. Some kind of plushie that's nice enough to display. Even a Mario hat like they did before...maybe a Link hat instead. Some kind of small canvas print (either of artwork or maybe prints made directly from a game...give us a choice of a few). They could really go out of their way and do something like an NES themed pro controller (awesome for display even if you don't own a Wii U).

Point is there's tons of stuff. And yes, SOME people will complain about ANYTHING, but I think they need to stop doing stuff that's more "niche" and do things that will appeal to a wider variety of people. Don't make something too childish and don't make something too adult-ish. Make something for NINTENDO FANS.

Edit: Also, they need to change it so you can select TWO Gold rewards instead of Platinum...

Finally got a copy of Pokemon White Version 2, and did the post-play survey a few minutes ago for my first new coins of the CN year. (Only entered the code before the deadline because I bought it used and wasn't sure the code would have even worked).

Felt vaguely insulted when they asked if I used the Nintendo WiFi part of the game.

As for a point made above, Platinum should get better items offered than gold. I agree that if you're going to let people pick a gold prize, they should get either two, or maybe some coins back in their account to go for next year.

I heard that this year's Platinum Reward is "? block" themed garbage bags, so we can fill it with our own trash instead of taking Nintendo's.

I just don't have any expectations at this point, so I won't be disappointed. The last two years have been a total waste, but before that the stuff was decent. I like the concept of the pin set, but mine always falls over, even after I put weights in it, and it was also damaged in shipping because Nintendo was too cheap to pack it properly.

Did they ever have a Mario poster that would match the Luigi one they gave for Platinum last year available anywhere?
God if that's the reward this year I will be VERY vocal to them about it... Posters should NEVER be a platinum reward because it's something only a very tiny group of members will ever use.

I don't like to get on the "people who complain are entitled pricks" bus, but this comment screams that. Like, I love how you preface your comment with the simple statement that only a few things will slick your thrust for hate towards Club Nintendo. Anyway, in what reality is a deck of cards an "extremely niche" prize? Its not like countries have these big buildings where the rich and poor alike play games using those strange numbered cards in high stakes games of chance...

Anyway, I don't see how a deck of cards is more niche than Links hat or a "decently made" Master Sword / Shield figure. I mean, personally speaking, I would actually prefer the deck of cards to either of those items, but thats just me. In either case, Nintendo can certainly do better things, like send everyone a Link or Luigi Nendoroid or even make a unique Nendoroid for a prize, but thats hardly realistic on any level (seriously, when did we hit the point where people expected prizes that would cost $40~ MSRP as a good enough reward?).

I don't think you niche means what you think it means. In fact, I would say that the deck of cards ironically fits this description "do things that will appeal to a wider variety of people. Don't make something too childish and don't make something too adult-ish. Make something for NINTENDO FANS" better than anything you said.

I mean sarcastically, as "I can think of QUITE a few things..." Not literally I can only think of a FEW things... I usually DEFEND Club Nintendo (not their recent prize choices though).

As for the cards being niche, I'd say it's the very definition of niche - "a specialized but profitable corner of the market". That is, only people who play cards will find that useful and I'll take that even further by saying only a small group of those who play cards would find THOSE cards useful. One, they're Nintendo themed and I'd guess a good number of gamers don't have enough gamer friends who they'd play cards with and would be comfortable showing them to...but also because they're special edition one of a kind cards that you'd be almost foolish to use with anybody else but people you trust an extreme amount.

Take something like the Link hat or Master Sword, certainly anybody who's nerdy enough to use Nintendo themed cards with their friends is also nerdy enough to display some Nintendo swag...so right there it's already a huge market it would appeal to. Then, you have fans at that same level but don't happen to either play cards at all or regularly enough to matter. For everybody else it's at least something you could set on your desk or keep in your gaming area. Sure, some people wouldn't display that stuff at all and it would just end up in a box but...look how many people were upset with the cards (a lot).

I can see where you're coming from but I respectfully disagree. I'd say even going further "niche" would be better if they gave cards since it would then also appeal more to Nintendo fans and be a collectible piece...for instance I would have rather gotten something like the hanafuda cards than normal cards and I could have found a way to just display them. I'm still thinking of finding a way to display my reward cards I did get last year and would have in our new house but we had to put that off for a while.

Ugh~ I need to stop getting into arguments with people and let them have their stupid logic like I did with Afro.

If you want to be semantic, then anything can be niche, but you would be hard pressed to convince me or anyone that a deck of cards (something that is practical at almost any age, has nearly universal appeal, uses the most recognizable Nintendo characters, etc) is somehow more niche than Link's hat (an item that has no function for most people, will only appeal to Zelda fans, etc). Furthermore, the rest of your argument is all besides the point, since you can apply that logic to almost any Club Nintendo prize and has no relevance to the cards in question. I mean, if you're ashamed to use a Mario deck of cards, then I don't see why you wouldn't be ashamed to wear Link / Mario's hat, hang posters or display figures. I am pretty sure you get this, but it still needs to be said.

My comment about the cards was predicated on your whole notion that they were extremely niche and how you wanted "do things that will appeal to a wider variety of people. Don't make something too childish and don't make something too adult-ish. Make something for NINTENDO FANS." So heres my question for you. How in the world do the cards NOT fit that description? As I already mentioned, almost everyone (at least in NA / EU) knows how to play at least 1 card game and is not something you associate with a certain age group. You could find people as young as 6 or 7 that know how to play cards and people 80+ that would gladly play a game of cards with you, so where is this item failing to hit a wide variety of people or is thought of as being childish or "adult-ish?" It's not like anything you said would appeal to a wider group of people than a deck of cards. Finally, people complained about the deck of cards because of cost association. If I wanted a deck of cards, I can go to Target and get one for $3, so it seemed insulting that Nintendo would offer people who spent approximately $600 on Nintendo products would be rewarded with a prize that could be bought for $3. With that being said, I've worked for a company that sold promotional goods and I can tell you that the cards Nintendo sent out were probably cost Nintendo significantly more to make than the LoZ OST. It's an extremely high quality deck that we seem to believe is too good to actually justify playing with, though thats not going to stop people from wanting X and getting disappointed at Y.

Finally, I couldn't disagree more about Nintendo going more niche, since thats where almost ALL the problems stem from. However, I am not going to argue about something I can't win. Especially when you want an item that appeals to many and has no age restriction, but can't come up with another item that fulfills those conditions and pisses one that does.

Put vic on your ignore list. No use arguing with him. He's a idiot that just picks fights & brags about how he use to review games. Someone gave me that advice when I first joined & CAG instantly became 10 times better.

Looks to me like the games have gotten better and better. If they offered  Link's Awakening DX or that Samurai game again I'd pick up one of them.

So have we gotten to the point of bringing up retail 3DS/WiiU game downloads as Platinum prizes and the subsequent argument on just how stupid/unlikely that would be yet?

I started working on getting the Platinum for this new CN year and the list of normal rewards has dwindled so much since the last time I grabbed anything. I hope they aren't holding back on them until they get Platinum/Gold gifts sorted out.

Ive gotten platinum for every year except for the year with the statue.

*sigh*

Lets hope this years is better. I seriously haven't enjoyed any of the rewards since I joined CN in 2009

Oh, I must not have been around for it.
Most likely, though I don't think many people want items like that for elite rewards. Almost every request so far seems to be rooted in the concept that the prize is unique. People want the unique GBA games, a unique Amiibo, etc. In a lot of ways I think people might be excited / happy to get a big prize like Super Mario 3D World, but its ordinary nature will make people a little disappointed.

Well, remember that it is the 4th of July weekend and even then they've announced every prize in July, so does it really matter if they restock the items today, tomorrow or July 31st?

No, it matters that they add new items instead of them just slowly dwindling down until there's nothing to spend points on.

Can't wait to hear the prizes this year, the cd was prefect last year, made about 25 on ebay. Hoping for a repeat

Hey, in all this prize banter, let's not forget we should be getting new games on Club Nintendo within the day.

I finally pulled the trigger on Electroplankton Rec-Rec. I figured with all the extra coins I'll be redeeming because of the expiring codes, I might as well get anything I even have a slight interest in. I've gotten several games for my 3DS from Club Nintendo and I don't think I've ever played a single on of the them. My son plays the ones on the Wii/Wii U at least.

It's not going to update today, even though it says the 6th. It never updates on the day listed. It'll MAYBE update tomorrow (given the holiday).

You mean the week with the way they've been doing stuff lately.

You can't be an honest Nintendo fan anymore and not complain once in awhile. I'm pretty sure it's impossible for only the most diehard of fanboy defenders.

Regarding the complaining, I don't see how any longtime Nintendo fan could be anything but disappointed in their entire approach over the last 5 or 6 years.

On topic, if you reached platinum status, do you get both a gold and a platinum reward?

You have the choice to choose any item between Gold & Plat.

Just one

I'm pretty sure that a suitable for framing high quality print of Iwata vs Reggie, hand signed by both of them, would be the greatest thing ever. How can we make this happen?
