[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

With the adding family account method, do they ban you registering the same games on each family member account? I have so many nintendog, pilot wing codes from the days of buying cheap 3DS games to just trading them back to Best Buy for more than I paid. Anyone else remember trading in 3 copies each of the three kinds of Nintendog games?
I've never heard of a ban, though I've only had a single double of any games I used twice. The surveys do ask if the game was a gift that you gave. if you're worried then say yeah. But it is a reward program, they probably don't care why you have so many codes, and at least you got them in a legit way.

At the worst, I think there is a limit on how many accounts you can sync to one family. I want to say 5.

This is the first year I'm doing the points thing. Dp they change the physical rewards before the yearly turnover? Just wondering if I should cash out now or wait.

Let's just say we were surprised that they even added some items after the Smash Bros Wii U Posters.

Don't thing so, back when there was the mk8 code exploit I don't recall a single person being banned. and lol on the nintendog, someone's autocorrect?

I have a few games that I registered doubles for and even one I have a triple. They haven't done anything to my account so I'm assuming it's fine. I figure there's a possibility for having two systems and two games if you have multiple kids, or a system at different houses.

Nintendo can be a dick sometimes.

I haven't gotten in trouble for entering in extra codes in the family account.

but they did canceled my $30 promotional eshop credit for registering both the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami games.

They claimed the promo was only valid once per household.

(And yes, I brought two copies of each)

You do know Nintendogs is a game (series) right??

To answer the earlier question, you can register up to 7 additional family members on one account, so technically you can register up to 8 copies of a single game title.  If you are worried about legitimacy, then make sure you use actual email accounts of real family members, otherwise you can add kids, cousins, etc., under the age of 13 (I think that is the cut off) and they don't require an email address.

You can also just make up people if you want to, it does not matter near as much as creating multiple separate accounts, which people have had accounts frozen / banned for doing so, trying to get multiple year-end platinum rewards (not as much of an issue now if they are going all digital again though).

Awesome, missed out on a bunch of surveys right after the New Year (Captain Toad, Stick it to the Man). I had managed to avoid that for the latter half of the year.  Ah well.  Really wish they had an option to set up email reminders or something.  Strangely Stick it to the Man's post play survey doesn't expire at the same time as the registration survey like most I've seen lately.

Grabbed the NES Remix shirt, finally had more post-play survey's pop up. Down to 10 coins, loaded up Lucadian whatever to get another 10. Hopefully bum some coins off my cousins who don't care about the Club stuff, but none of this digital stuff is a big deal if I can just buy it normally.

Does Tank!Tank!Tank! give coins?

I got a random amiibo survey to do today for 10 coins. Seemed unusual since I thought they were no longer sending them out. If you do get one, please take the time to state what you really think about them, although I doubt much market data goes into whoever is reading these surveys.

Another reminder too that Jan 13 is the last day to register both Super Smash Bros. games for the CD soundtrack.

I emailed them about that a couple months back since I also missed out on about 100 points because I forgot about the survey. They replied their generic response: no option for it, looking into it, etc. etc.

Here's an awesome idea that will never happen: Club Nintendo holds a promotion every April Fools day giving each member one last shot at filling out expired points surveys for that year.

Does anyone know if you can register and claim 2 Smash Soundtracks under 1 Family account? I've actually got the codes but want to be sure before I register the second set.

Under the terms it shows "Limit 1" per customer and "contact us if you have a family account and cannot register". Would like to know if anyone has tried and been successful or not.

Yep, it works. I did it at launch for the WiiU version.

You registered both to get 2 Smash Soundtracks? Want to be sure I was clear. I've registered both a Wii U and 3DS version and got the free Soundtrack. I have another Wii U and 3DS code and want to make sure I get a second soundtrack if I register them on my family account.

Yes, I registered two different sets and redeemed for two different Smash soundtracks.

Got my case today. Ordered Christmas Eve so took a bit but the case is really solid and fits perfectly in my case for my 3DS so I'm super excited. Now between the Club Nintendo case and the slots already in my case, I can transport up to 26 games.

I can't even afford 26 games for Nintendo 3ds.
It does fit DS games fine as well...got some cheap ones I got from Gamestop in there, and yes I do miss the cases and I hate Gamestop's policy for throwing away DS and 3DS cases. The games were cheap enough ($5 or less) to not care much.

In December, my CN account showed I didn't have any coins expiring this year, but when I checked today for the first time since New Year's, it now shows I have 300 expiring June 30. Grrr!!! This year I won't make the mistake of waiting until June when everything is sold out and I'm forced to buy whatever scraps are left to avoid losing my coins. I say that every year and still procrastinate.

Final reminder that Jan 13 is the last day to register both Super Smash Bros. games for the CD soundtrack. I'd say do it today if you can since Nintendo has pulled the plug a day early on several promos. They must be on Australian time or something.

This year, there hasn't really been anything but scraps in the first place, so doesn't matter if you wait... Can only get better.

Which cases do you guys think are better the hori cases or CN ones?
I've had the Hori "24" for awhile now, and love it. I have the same cases for my Vita collection, so I recently decided to upgrade my 3DS Hori case for the CN ones(So my 3DS cases would be different than my Vita ones).

The CN ones are slightly nicer, at least to me. As they allow for a little customization with the different sleeves. If your strictly looking for game storage, the Hori case is pretty small considering it holds 24, and is more than up to the job. If your in to a adding a personal touch, the CN cases are the way to go as they add a little flair to the whole case thing.

Both are great in different ways.

Got my Zelda case in the mail on Saturday.  It's pretty nice!  I also ordered the Pikmin one, that should show up soon... love these portable cases.

I'm sitting at 395 coins.....hope that Hyrule Warriors post play survey comes before the Zelda case is sold out. Not sure how I got an amount that ends with five.

My Pikmin case came in the other day also.  This is my first one.  They are pretty nice; definitely worth it for a good quality carrying case.

Today is the 13th which is the last day to register the Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U games with Club Nintendo to get the soundtrack and Mewtwo DLC. Almost forgot myself but I did it this morning before work.

Not sure if it was a smart move (for a CAG), but I purchased Smash 3DS just to register it for the Soundtrack/Mewtwo DLC. Neither of my sons wanted Smash for their 3DS. Net cost was about $7 after GCU discount on the purchase and $27.50 trade in to Best Buy.

Soundtrack sounds like a good one and DLC is good. If all else fails you can sell the soundtrack later for decent money as most of those soundtracks seem to get. Honestly if I had a WiiU I would get rid of Smash 3DS just cause Smash deserves a big screen though the game is alright and playable.

Exactly what I did. I figure $7 for 50 CN points, a soundtrack, and Mewtwo DLC is well worth it. If Mewtwo ever becomes available as paid DLC, it will likely be in the $3 - $5 range anyway, so $7 is definitely not a bad deal for all of that. Plus you can probably sell the Mewtwo DLC code for the 3DS version for a few bucks to a fellow CAG that wants it.

I'm going to do the same after work (minus having something to trade in). I'll also have to finally crack the seal on my SSB Wii U bundle. Haven't had an opportunity to play it, so it's just been sitting on the shelf.

Thanks for the reminder. Not really interested in the soundtrack but my kids want the Mewtwo DLC so I'll have to take care of that when I get home
