[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

So the question is, now that I've hit platinum for the year, should I save my codes for next year?  Or continue racking up the points?

What do you guys do?

I'm saving them until I either need them to get an item, qualify for a promotion or they have to be registered to get the extra coins for purchasing at launch/intend to buy.

The best thing to do with CN is the following...

  • Never use a single voucher till you want something, see a promo you want to cash in on or the year is about to end.
  • Fill out every single last Intend to Buy that you get offered.

This is because you never know what Nintendo is going to do and I've been burned several times by things I would have never expected to happen.

Platinumed like 08 before the year ended and Nintendo offered a OST for registering Zelda. Considering a slightly better OST was the platinum reward this year... I would have been a fool not to lose those 40 coins back then.

Platinumed last year and saw the 3DS XL and Luigi / Pokemon promotion. I would have never expected to get either, but then I found Luigi's Mansion for $10 (long story), my friend bought Pokemon (gave me the coins) and they announced the Pikachu 3DS XL, which I bought. ~_~ Missed out on the promo!

SMT IV and Fire Emblem promo this year was great, though you could have actually made more money simply selling the codes for $15 dollars each.

As far as the intend to buy goes, I didn't intend to get Wind Waker HD code, yet I did and missed out on those coins. Same with a lot of other games that I never expected to get / went super cheap / someone offered me a code, so this is the best plan of action to be successful.

Exactly. Never would have expected to register WW HD but then I bought a WiiU. Also wouldn't have bought SMT4 without that promo. Almost every ITB I haven't done in the last couple months I've ended up buying the game a few weeks later.

New eShop games are up:

:3ds: Touch Solitaire~ 100
:3ds: The Legend of Zelda~ 150
:wii: ThruSpace~ 150
:wii: Mario Kart (SNES)~ 150

Until Nov. 3

Nothing for me again. Not too surprising though since I can only think of a handful of VC titles I would like that I don't already have.

For the love of fuck, something I can actually spend my coins on: ThruSpace.  Not the greatest game in the world but it was on my WiiWare list...somewhere near the bottom, but still.

I have LoZ on my Ambassador units, but I am tempted to grab it for my XL.

Touch Solitaire is not bad. It's very bare-bones, which was a strong point for me compared to some other card games I tried. I can usually do a round or two in 5 minutes, so it was a decent pickup for me last time it was offered for coins.

Do these download codes expire? I would like to use my points on Zelda but don't have a 3ds (yet).
I've never heard of anyone having their codes expire, and IIRC someone posted about being able to redeem a year old code so I'd say there is very little chance they ever expire (or if they do it's an extremely generous cut off point).

I always look forward to these Mondays only to be disappointed more often then not.  I say it's about time we see some non-VC 3DS eshop titles (DSiware was so much easier to say) something like Dillon's Rolling Western, Fluidity SC or Harmoknight. Sakura Samurai's been the only one I can remember which has been made available by Club Nintendo.

But then they have to pay other people where if they're releasing whatever Nintendo game I would imagine they're probably only paying whatever minimal royalties. Not that I disagree and would like some non-ancient stuff.

too much cool crap coming out and no money to get them. While I love my 3DS.. I may be enticed to get a 3ds XL if they make a zelda version with a PHYSICAL version of Link between worlds (I own the DS Lite that came with Phantom Hourglass). I could care less about the 2DS. I love the clamshell design as I would scratch the heck out of a 2DS and probably break it easily with no clamshell to protect the screens. Well, that and I prefer using the 3D.

Highly doubtful if it's a Nintendo created bundle and not a retailer doing a package. They are quietly pushing digital really hard (despite no going to an account based system yet) and all the 3DS bundles I can remember have been digital games.

Several minutes of "where am I?" Followed by awkward attacks that did not actually make contact with me but killed me anyway.
Yeah, watching the video and the hit detection...

I just started to play LoZ in the WiiU last week. I've literally bought the original Zelda on every platform ever (you know, because I'm a sucker) so I suppose I'll end up getting it here too.

I'll raise you on that. I just recently decided to rip all my GC and Wii discs to my PC so I can use Dolphin and make them look a little prettier (the SD graphics look TERRIBLE on a 65" TV). While doing so, I found that I had never claimed my codes for Skyward Sword and Metroid Prime 3. They were both purchased at release and I was able to input and claim both codes.

Regarding the Club Nintendo offers:

I really wish they would start offering up Wii U VC titles. I don't want to have to go into the Wii emulation menu to access this stuff, it should be front and center when I log in. It's stupid.

The other way to solve that would be to have an actual account system. You know, so my account would recognize that I bought a game before? It would be awesome if the 3DS versions of things I'd purchased allowed me a significantly decreased purchase price of the Wii/Wii u version much like the Wii to Wii U upgrade for $1 system works....

Well the CN codes never expire as long as their offering coins for them. I got some crazy coins for games that were bought at the start of the current iteration of the program.

Or better yet if Nintendo implemented a cross-buy system like Vita/PS3/PS4 games :bouncy:

I'm confused by the 3DS games that they offer.  Are they actually in 3D?  (LoZ to be specific)  I can't seem to find any definite answer on the reward page.

There are some Nes games in 3d but they are their own special things, I don't think they even show up in the 3DS VC.

They're called "3D Classics" or something, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Excitabike and Xevious I think are available in 3D, there might be more.  They cost more than their VC counterparts.

The 3DS's top screen is what creates the 3D effect, so technically anything that can be played on the top screen can be viewed in 3D. It isn't software specific like PS3/360 games.

Really Fing ridiculous that the 3DS virtual library is so piss poor when it comes to getting great 16 bit games

Where is Super Metroid? Hell, where are ANY GBA games.

It can't be that hard to port them over, seeing as the "Ambassadors" got Metroid Fusion and Minish cap virtually overnight

On the WiiU.

Man, only did the ITB on Pokemon Y and of course I bought X too.  Also today's the last day for the early purchase bonus on Wonderful 101.  I'm finding the lack of CN codes with third party WiiU games very disappointing.  I know they're pushing downloads by offering the coins there but it seems counter productive.

I still think Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was the biggest wtf so far.

3DS version? Got coins.

Wii U version? No coins.
