[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

You can't see if a CN code is good without redeeming it, can you?

Actually that information isn't 100% correct, all that will tell you is the amount of that game for a valid CN code, but it doesn't tell you if it is an unredeemed code (test this out by trying a code you already know you've redeemed while logged out, here is one for America's Test Kitchen from this thread: K89-QESX-RNEJ-WY5).

I went into detail on this already in another thread here. Basically the only way you can tell a code is valid without redeeming it is to try a code from a game that you (or someone you trust) have already registered while logged in.

Or maybe calling Nintendo CS, not sure on the success of doing that.

If it works it will either show you the screen mentioned above prompting you to register/log in or take you straight to the survey. If you're logged in you just close out of the survey and the code still works fine.

Source: Having done it that way.

Try the Test Kitchen code I posted, both without logged in and whlie logged in, and you'll see what I mean. And I do recall when entering in a code for a game I didn't have registered while being logged in, and the survey came up, even if you close out the window, it will still show the registration survey in your To Do list.

I haven't tried using that same code on another account before completing the survey, but I guess I would have to test your method with the next unique code I register.

This has been my experience as well. Once you enter the code, if you haven't already redeemed that game that it is now redeemed to your account. If you close the window it will appear in the To-Do list and expire in a few days.

Well maybe they changed it recently but that's not the way it worked for me when I was last testing codes in early December?

Edit- Went to test it again and I can't confirm or deny either way now since it doesn't seem to want to let me register any codes at the moment.  Just errors out for me either way.

I tried to enter the code I was wondering about, it tells you:

Signed Out = The game, how many points it's worth, and the PIN #

Tried the same with a code I'd already redeemed and it does the same thing.

Guess I'll just have to hang onto the code until next CN Year

So I bought a copy of Yoshi's Island DS on eBay and it didn't come with a Club Nintendo code and there's no ESRB rating on the back. Hmmmm.
Well, read the description and see how it was listed. If you missed something then tough shit. If not then open an item not as described case and explain it wasn't disclosed that this is not the retail version.

Well, I already love this thing, so much better than those crappy 4 game travel cases I was using

Doubt it but anyone have any past reward codes for Super Punchout, Super Metroid, Paper Mario 64, or any other stuff like that?

Wish the zelda case would come back. I have the first one so the new one would be nice to go with it

In the unlikely event anyone cares about my ongoing battle with Nintendo, I guess things are finally in motion...

Contacted them today after they got my OST 10 days ago (going off USPS tracking), but they pretty much just they had nothing. A supervisor got in touch with me and he did a bunch of things in the back room I guess. He requested my tracking number and told me that the location I was told to sent it to was wrong and that was why they had no record of it. He said they would try to fulfill my request for a new OST, but he was quick to remind me that stock was limited. I was told yet again I would not get my shipping refunded (A+ job Nintendo) and things will be in motion... ideally.

Needless to say, I am strongly considering just buying SSB and Bayonetta 2 (I love PG too much not to) and never buying another Nintendo title. The amount of drama/money/effort to get a stupid OST replaced is well beyond what should be required of a "free" program like CN.

They effed up your Platinum reward and you never got it?

OST is the MM Soundtrack, right?

Man, that sucks
Well... I got it a while back (December 27th I think), but it came in "poor" condition. The plastic was torn, the bottom was cracked, the inserts were dinged up and parts of the case were ruined. Not terribly damaged, but far from the condition you would want a "collectible" item like this to come in.

I contacted them the second I got it and the rep said they would gladly just replace it if they had stock. I was happy and things were great.

A month after that I didn't get the OST, so I assumed they ran out. I contacted them to make sure, since I really didn't want this broken OST hanging around. The rep told me I was expected to return the OST and questioned why I hadn't done that. I was a bit irked because the first rep didn't tell me where to send it, what steps were required or even imply I had to give up my OST (it fell in line with people who said their item was broken and got replaced). He said they would call me in 2 business days with more information.

2 business days later, I didn't hear from Nintendo. I contacted them and the rep seemed unable to grasp the concept that I was never told to send it in, but was aware of it because of the second rep, but was still confused where my progress was. After some time I got him to understand the situation and he told me to send it to the Kirkland location. I asked if my shipping would be comped and he was like "yeah, most likely."I wanted to express my anger at how much of a hassle this was to get a $20 dollar OST replaced and asked to talk to a manger.

She told me that I pretty much had to deal with it (be it keep the OST and shut up or jump through the hoops). I expressed my concerns and she verified the Kirkland address the previous guy gave me (this is their repair address if anyone cares). I asked about getting my shipping fees covered and she said that Nintendo won't pay for my shipping fees back, but they will pay to ship it to me. She also said the last thing like I should be grateful for that much... She also told me that I had to include a note with the package, with my order number, address, reason for returning the item, case number and phone number.

At this point I really didn't think shipping the OST was back, but still did because I made a trade with Emoney244 and figured I didn't want Nintendo thinking I want free stuff incase another bullshit thing happened. I sent the item on January 31st and waited. Emoney got the game like a week ago, so I thought Nintendo was just processing it.

10 days after that (aka Today) I contacted Nintendo to see what was going on and thats where my post starts.

As you can see, Nintendo either likes to fuck with me or they really want to make you work to get rewarded for spending money on their products. =\

Wow, I would be pissed.

Hope everything turns out good in the end.

The customer service industry is so twisted. It seems like you either have the best experience ever or the shittiest

Well, I would be okay with it if two things weren't true.

  1. This is a loyalty reward. I think it is sad that I need to spend approximately $600 dollars, pick a reward I don't really care for and then receive it broken because Nintendo decides to send it with so so protection (better than their usual though) during the holiday season and at least an hour on the phone to get it in good condition.
  2. Pay for shipping. I know I keep harping on the $2 dollars, but they really should cover it.
Anyway, thanks for the words and I really do hope things work out.

Does my Nintendo ID combine the wallet's for 3DS, WiiU, AND Wii? If yes to Wii, is there any way to register it to Club Nintendo or the NNID if I didn't redeem the club nintendo points for it? (it's long lost)

Vic, I see that you're pretty upset about your club Nintendo reward, and I would be too if that was my experience. However, I'm pretty sure the department that handles club Nintendo doesn't make actual Nintendo video games. I know you said you're just going to buy 2 more games, then call it quits, but think about it. They're the ones making your life hard right now, but the guys in the other building are the ones creating you and your family's memories for the future.

Tell me, what did we get for buying NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBA, and GC games? We got the GAMES, nothing more.

WTF is this? He's unhappy with the service Nintendo gives him and you're trying to convince him to keep buying games and getting that level of service? Who cares what Nintendo did in the past THIS is part of the deal today and obviously he considers that when making his purchases. Without the Club Nintendo value add, maybe it's not worth it to him.

Nintendo doesn't need a guardian angel begging people to spend money on their products.

Honestly, go ahead and stop buying Nintendo, someone else will replace you. Not tryna be a dick or anything, it sucks what happened and all, but you gotta understand the situations. A limited thing like the CDs are gonna be limited and I'm guessing it's just not worth it to them to print another one for 1 person. Now if a ton of people had trouble like you did, I'm sure they'd do something about it.

Whoa relax man. Read my post again. Having quoted it, I thought you might notice that I said that they were most likely two different divisions. He said he didn't want to buy Nintendo games because the rewards division upset him. I was just pointing out that they're not the ones making the games.

I'm not trying to be a guardian angel. If he believes that, without Club Nintendo, the games are not worth it, by all means he should not buy anymore Nintendo games.

Really?

If there is one thing we can all agree on, it's that Club Nintendo is a loyalty program. Free or not, Club Nintendo rewards loyalty to the brand in the form of small trinkets and an extra bonus if you spend approximately $300+ dollars in a year. So when a program, which is designed to keep me loyal, rewards my approx $600 spent with a broken OST and expects me to jump through these hoops to get it replaced, I naturally question MY LOYALTY to Nintendo.

However, I would love to hear why that is irrelevant and how I should continue to support Nintendo.

I understand the situation, but I'm not sure you get my stance.

I was not, nor have I ever been angry about them possibly running out or rejecting me. What has ALWAYS angered me was the employee incompetence. The first guy told me the "standard" procedure, which many can confirm simply telling Nintendo will get your item replaced (legit claim or not). The second guy said the first guy was wrong and they would call, even though they didn't. The third guy said to do what the second guy did, told me replacement shipping costs (1 way) were on me and to send it to their replacement center, which a manager confirmed. The fourth and final guy said the last people were wrong and just sorted out the problem, which should have been sorted months ago. This is what angers me, the incorrect information, the jumping through hoops and much more to get my item replaced.

I already have Punch-Out! from when it was 30 cents
Wait, what?

I redeemed Club Nintendo coins for this a few days ago.

Either I missed it when it was 30 cents or I already have it on my Wii U and completely forgot that I did. I'm not sure which is worse (probably the latter!).

I asked my son if he wanted it and he said yes - I'd think he would tell me if we already had it. I'll find out in a minute...

Yeah, got distracted by other stuff. I'm going to check on my Wii U right now ;).

So, yeah, turns out I didn't have it. That is the better of the two options. But I don't even remember that being a 30 cent game and it seems like I would have bought it if it was. Hell, I bought Balloon Fight. Though I kind of sort of remember passing on one game but I'm not sure why. That was before my son was into playing retro games so I might have just thought it was a waste of time and effort to even download for 30 cents. But now I've spent Club coins on it. Oh well...

Well if you have a deluxe Wii U at least the download will count towards some cash back ($0.49).
Huh - yeah, I didn't think of that.

So I finally got around to redeeming my Mario RPG code that I recovered using the order inquiry/"part" trick (now in the OP).

In doing so I realized I still have 1600 points on my Wii shop account (from like 5+ years ago). I know I also still have a few 2000 points cards. I have already upgraded a few of the Wii VC titles to the Wii U and I know there aren't that many that are on both. Is there a comprehensive list somewhere? I might as well buy some upgradeable ones with my points - though I should also hold some in reserve for when they add more to the Wii U VC.

And seriously, in addition to more games in general, Nintendo needs to get around to putting N64 games on the Wii U VC. What is the hold-up?

I found this list of Wii U VC titles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_for_Wii_U_(North_America)

I guess I can cross-reference with this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_for_Wii_(North_America)

Looking at SNES games only it seems like F-Zero, Zelda LTTP, Super Mario World, Kirby Super Star, and Super Metroid (which I did get for 30 cents) are the big ones. I already upgraded Super Mario World. Like an idiot I forgot to get F-Zero last month when it was 200 coins [edit: so, yeah, apparently I already had it. I know I didn't get it last month - it must have been available earlier as I would never have bought it outright]. Though maybe it is worth using those otherwise worthless Wii shop points on it instead of Club Nintendo coins anyway. It seems I already had Zelda LTTP on my Wii (who knew?).

Anything else I'm missing? I guess I could buy Kirby Super Star. Not too excited about that though...

Yeah I'd hold off until Nintendo releases more VC titles that peak your interest for the Wii U so you can then use the credit on the Wii version and upgrade games you'd actually play.

I'm sure every Wii U owner would love a revamped Virtual Console.

At this point I'm just hoping they are working to future proof this new Virtual Console to an account based system that links purchases to any Nintendo console in the future.

Speaking of Wii points, is there a way to convert them into eShop credit?  I have an unused 2000 points card.  I might call Nintendo later today to see what they can do.

F-Zero was another of the .30 games.

So what, they've stopped doing 30 cent games? I've had the console since November and haven't seen a single game for that price. That's fine though, the amount of money I saved on the hardware is way more than any savings on those almost free games. Plus I got some of them with codes through Club Nintendo for free anyway.

I don't think there's been any in at least six months.

Still not happy about missing all that but at least they seem to be following vic's prediction of giving them to us through CN in the same order. Two more months to Super Metroid hopefully. Of course that means they'll probably skip Metroid since they know everyone would actually be happy to see that show up on CN.

Seeing that list, I think you're right. Super Metroid is the best game there and it's probably the only one I'll eve bother getting. I'm not familiar with the NES Yoshi game.

sp00ge, ah, that explains why I have Donkey Kong as well. I'm not sure why I didn't just get them all but whatever...

Yep, sadly was WiiU only because you know the 3DS is incapable of running any of those games.
Well, to be fair, the 30 cent program I think was intended as a little bonus for us early Wii U adopters. In that context, it would have sucked it they made them available for 3DS as well.
