[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I thought the whole purpose of the Gold/Platinum members status was that they would be able to get something truly special that's not available in stores.  What's the point of this if they just offer digital downloads of software I can buy anytime?

Had I known this I wouldn't have aggressively pursued platinum status this year.  Yeah, it's free and all but I can't help but think it's kind of a bait and switch.  Oh well.

Holy SHIT I am coming across alot of bitching and moaning about the prizes.

They're fucking FREE, people. Nintendo doesn't owe you shit.

I don't see Sony and Microsoft throwing free games at you as a thank you.

I have 6 DS lites and 2 wiis. (and pretty much every game that has coins)
8 DS lites?

Yea, I'm normal (normaler? ..hahaha)

I have only have a couple of duplicate systems, 2 3DS XL (Zelda+Pikachu) and 2 PS2s.

Except they're still giving gifts out so....yeah.....

Remind me what any other Gaming company like Sony or Microsoft's budgets for annual gifts are?
I get free PSN games every month with PSN Plus.

Don't tell me it is not a valid comparison.
You have to buy like 10 Wii U games to get the Platinum Prize (which is 1 game)

I have a Sony PlayStation credit card which give me 10% back on PSN purchases.

So if I use the PSN credit on PSN Plus ...then PSN Plus games are (monthly) gifts.

Nintendo of America is doing a craptacular job with it is Club Nintendo program.

Well if we want to talk duplicates...I have over 18 NESes and about 26 N64s last count ;) (from garage sales over the years. I would eventually like to do custom systems).

Free with purchase is different than "FREE." The Club Nintendo program offers you a free gift with purchase (which takes 9 Wii-U games). Sony has Playstation Plus, which offers free games with the purchase of their PS+ service. Microsoft has Games with Gold, which is also a set of free games with purchase of their Gold service.

Just saying..... Nintendo has truly outdone themselves with a garbage offering, especially if you consider how far they went out of their way offering good games with Mario Kart 8.

You're paying for PS+ you better damn well get the free games they advertise with it.

You're not required to buy those Wii U games and Nintendo throwing in a free coins voucher is them being nice not you acting entitled and feeling you deserve more.

Sony doesn't offer a FREE program where you get free games or other items simply for buying Playstation stuff.

I do. People typically pay $30-$60 a year, depending on the sales for Plus and Gold, to get free games from Sony and Microsoft. People typically spend hundreds of dollars, or maybe more, to reach gold and/or platinum status. To get a free game out of it, is a disappointment, particularly when you can spend $50-$60 on Mario Kart 8 and get a free and, for most, more appealing game.

I already own Game & Wario and do not plan to sell my disc version. My brother and I share games- so it doesn't make sense for me. I also own Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, which is a ton of fun- but I only recommend picking this if you haven't played the original. I am going to redeem my reward for NES Remix. I was holding out on the disc version like Japan and Europe have... but besides what I already have... it is the only game I want.

Definitely worth hundreds dollars in Nintendo hardware/software.
You get a free game for buying things you'd already buy. What is Sony or Microsoft offering you for buying their games and consoles? Nothing. Because they both have no loyalty programs but I guess that works in their favor since there's no bitching from people like you.

You aren't buying Wii U games specifically for the Club Nintendo code come on man get a grip that's a terrible comparison. This is a FREE service that you get currency from just by buying Nintendo items as usual, if you're specifically buying Wii U games and other items for the coins then you're doing it wrong.

Well sony does have sonyrewards which you can sign up for free and accumulate points by answering wheel of fortune bonus puzzles. I'm pretty sure you can get free stuff every year if you are committed. Unless they changed it in recent years.

Didn't expect them to give all the good games to platinum so I purposely stayed at gold this year :*(. If anyone wants to trade a gold reward + $5 for a platinum one...

Video Games are special. Especially when they're free. You think they're lying? Take Nintendo to court.

why, don't all of you call nintendo and complain to them...  about it.

Maybe it will get something done. for next year.

Game & Wario or Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D...which one do you guys think is better?

I already have 4 games downloaded on my 32gb harddrive...so I might go with Donkey Kong, especially since I only have the Dream Team & Pokemon Y for the 3DS.

Which game are you guys picking?

BTW I'm already platinum for next year...you guys need to stop complaining & enjoy Club Nintendo. It's so easy to hit Gold/Plat each year...

Well this was my first year doing this club nintendo stuff (got my 3DS late last year, figured that would make it my best chance of making it to platinum status) and tried to buy all 3DS games new (when on sale, of course) in order to get valid codes, hoping for something like that awesome Luigi statue, but after seeing these pitiful 'rewards' I can safely say I won't care about buying used vs new from now. I haven't seen a 'reward' system with this low of an effort since Microsoft's "Happy Birthday! Have 20 microsoft points/25 cents and waste your printer ink by making this paper cake/advertisement for us!" bullcrap.

Literally everything can be had elsewhere in one form or another for less than $20. Why do people think they'll get that much on a game website dedicated to the lowest possible pricing?
Who said they were selling it on here? I never sell stuff on here as it is naturally a site full of cheap people. Sell on Amazon or Ebay.

I get free PSN games every month with PSN Plus.
How on earth are you scoring Playstation Plus for free? That shit's $50 a year. (Or is it $60? I don't even know, I'm not a Playstation owner.)

Here's the difference. You're paying Sony $50 a year for those games, so they're technically not free. In addition, once you stop paying that $50 a year, POOF, the games disappear, because they were never yours to begin with.

Well he was advertising for $20. And yes, I agree. Sell on eBay. Back before the over saturation of the market eBay was the best place to sell DLC. I would always list pre-order bonuses a couple days before the game came out at a 99 cent auction.

It was unreal what people used to pay for DLC. I would get an additional $20-30 for a weapon skin or armor pack. Back when MK had the Klassic skins, I forgot I even had one and a few weeks later listed the Reptile skin from amazon and made $60 on it. That was more than the game even cost after a credit! Then a couple weeks later the whole pack got listed for $5..poor guy.

Anyways, not trying to jump the gun, maybe the dude will genuinely get his $20. Maybe I'm jaded from browsing craigslist or local sale ads seeing people trying to sell xbox 360s saying "275 brand new used for 2 months controller missing button $300 new in store I know what my stuff is worth!"

Well this is kinda dissapointing but I have been wanting to buy Donkey Kong Country Returns so I'll grab that. Now I just need a bigger memory than the one the 3ds brings.

At least ill do something with these prizes compared to the posters that are still sealed in the closet somewhere.

If you're going to play online you're going to pay for PS+, also they now offer 72 games a year. 72 games a year even as "rentals" as you people seem to want to point out is still a heck of a deal when you factor in you get exclusives, discounts, flash sales, etc. as well as the convenient auto cloud saves and game updates while it's in standby mode.

I mean just the 6 games out right now would cost over $50 if you bought them in the store. And GWG does give you free games that are yours forever on 360. If you don't sub to PS+ they go away but stay tied to your account if you do decide to come back.

You aren't buying Wii U games specifically for the Club Nintendo code come on man get a grip that's a terrible comparison. This is a FREE service that you get currency from just by buying Nintendo items as usual, if you're specifically buying Wii U games and other items for the coins then you're doing it wrong.
Terrible comparison? Try again. It's far more accurate than declaring Club Nintendo as an inherently free service. The simple fact, whether you care to acknowledge it or not, is that Club Nintendo is a program where coins are Free With Purchase. They do offer 100% free coins, but those are typically 10, far below that 300 or 600 threshold. In the end, the motive for purchasing is irrelevant. All of these programs are incentive programs designed to push their products, nothing more. Club Nintendo is an incentive program designed to help push their games. Simple as that. "Games with Gold" and PS+'s free monthly games are also an incentive program designed to push their products (online accessibility, discounts).

Don't back down. The fact is that all but two of those games can be bought for less than $20 in the digital shop where you would have to redeem the code.

True. But since it's required to play online now the valuation is a little different since many people would be paying for it even if there were no free games. Just like Xbox Live until recently. The discounts from PS+ help a ton too, if you buy digital games a decent amount it mostly ends up paying for itself anyway.

That said, I'm not a complainer about Club Nintendo and am happy as shit to get DKC:R as a reward instead of an old VC game I'll never play (haven't touched Link's Awakening from last year) or gaming knickknacks I have no use for (and I'm not hard up for money so reselling isn't worth the hassle).

Yeah, it sucks if there are no games you want. So they would be better off just giving eshop credit in that sense. And as I posted earlier, that's what they should do. Just change up the digital deluxe promotion to include codes from physical games to give people more e-shop credit and get more people used to getting games digitally.

What scheme are you using to get platinum easily w/o spending aprox $600 (not including sales)

pawn shop games? photos of family video rental games? buying the codes on ebay/other site? buying a plethora of systems?
