[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I also think there's no eShop credit because that WOULD actually cost Nintendo money. If you pick an Indie developer game and not one from Nintendo, they'd probably have to pay the cut to the developer.
Regardless of it "actually" costing Nintendo money, it would be a fairly smart business move. By giving people eShop money you're encouraging them to use the eShop and there they can see what games are for sale if they haven't already (I never look at the darn thing). Also by giving people money, even if they buy something from a third party developer, it would make Nintendo seem more profitable in the developers eyes and remind consumers that the eShop is more than VC games. So that small investment could easily pay off in the long run, but I digress.

I think Nintendo avoids this so Club Nintendo feels less like an awful market research program or poor cash back program. You figure, the approximate value of gold prizes this year was $4.99, so you would get back $5 on however much you spend. While platinum offered more expensive games, odds are we would just get $10 or $15 if we were lucky back. I can keep going, but I think you get the point.

Bought a San Disc 16 gb sd card yesterday to download DKCR. Got it from Best Buy for $9.99 if anyone was looking for a decent price on one. It rang up $12.99 in store so I had to get them to PM the web price. I don't usually buy digital but I was going to get Shovel Knight eventually, and Azure Striker Gunvolt when it comes out. Not sure of the file sizes on them but I'm sure I would have needed more space anyway.

Im torn between DKCR and Game & Wario. I would normally head straight for DK and not look back but I have DKCR on the Wii already, is an extra level really worth it?

It depends, Game and Wario has about 4 Multiplayer games (if you care), and 12 single player games. They are fun but I can see them getting old pretty fast.

FWIW, Game and Wario is one of my most played party games nowadays because of the pictionary game that it comes with. The Wii U is the perfect pictionary machine and I'm surprised that there haven't been more attempts to cash in on it.

Wario Land 2 as an elite reward

ಠ_ಠ I would have payed you 5$ for that so you could have gotten that.

But yeah you have to register the game and then within a couple of days you will get a post play survey.

I need to get a new SD card for my 3DS because I just maxed mine out with DKCR.
I see Nintendo recommends some on their site, one of which is a 32GB Sandisk Exreme card which sells for $26 via amazon.

Is there any noticeable performance difference using an "Extreme" sandisk versus a standard one?

I went to the Sony E3 movie theater event last month, they gave out a code for the Battlefield beta, the Destiny Alpha, and a $5 PSN credit. Sold the beta and alpha for about $26 after fees, plus I had the credit. No award from this will net you $15 after fees. Just saying.

OK. Somehow I don't think Nintendo cares what your personal profit from a gift you received at a Sony event was though.

So I am on my work computer so my web searching is kind of limited.

Would I be able to fit both "Game and Wario" and "NES Remix" on my son's 32gb model if I already have all four of the MK8 promo games installed? I know I asked this yesterday but it got buried in the thread in a matter of a few minutes.

Thanks,

Its more so the fact that he spent an elite reward on that instead of Game and Wario, Earthbound or DKCR3D
None of those games were available to me. I only had gold status. If I had any indication that I could have gotten a game the caliber of Donkey Kong Returns 3D I would have made damn sure to get Platinum. Even if I had a Wii U none of those games interest me. Game and Wario isn't for me and I beat Earthbound a long time ago. One of those games isn't even good.

The only legitimate choices for me were:

Wario Land 2 - a great game I never played

Super Mario Land 2 - a great game I never played

Metroid- an all time classic that I finished long ago

In the end I chose the game that was in color. I hope that I can get Super Mario Land 2 at a later date.

With all the being said I am very proud of my elite reward. No one can ever take it from me.

Dont look at things like "Extreme" or "Super" or whatever on SD Cards, what you need to look at is speed rating. You want 4 or higher for 3DS. Ratings are from 2, 4, 6 10, (in circle) at which point it goes back to 1 (but instead of being a circle its a U). See here for more detail - https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/

So yeah if you get a 4 or higher you are set. There is no percievable difference between 4 and higher... so no reason to spend extra money for faster cards.

Not entirely sure why you felt the need to say it, but...thanks?

Platinum should have earned two downloadable games for their reward - even if one was the gold tier.
I think the only thing I would suggest is that they offered two full retail Wii U and 3DS options instead of just one. W101 would've been perfect as an alternative option to G&W for the Wii U, not sure what exactly for 3DS.

Not that they haven't offered enough variety already, but just something to chew on if they do this again next year. I think I've decided on G&W for myself, I'll let the (CN) fates determine if I'll get EB later on.

Of course I would have preferred some cool, exclusive physical reward but free is free. Have had DKCR3D on my wish list for a while so that's what I'll be redeeming.

Meanwhile I hope at some point physical rewards to redeem your points for returns. I have about 3000 at present but both the slimming by the day physical offerings and the downloadable games haven't interested me for a long time.

Everywhere I go online I see people voicing their frustration so hopefully Nintendo takes note. The Wii U, Mario Kart 8 sales bump got them a little positive print and goodwill however on the whole the Wii U is still not a sales phenomenon so hopefully they don't blow it.

I just wish they kept it a flat cost like gold pretty much is. Like, I find it conceptually hard to accept and select NES Remix or Dr. Luigi simply because G&W is worth as much as both of them combined. What would have been nice (though this wouldn't make me happy as I want a physical item) is to give everyone points or special coins to spend on a selection of game (like we got) and that way platinum members could get DK or Wario or NES + Dr. Luigi or 6 of the gold offerings, which probably would have sat better with some people.

Yes that would be better (I'd be all over getting EB and NES Remix), I just think that would be too novel of a concept for the CN team (however small they are) to implement.

If anyone wants to trade me Amazon credit for my platinum rewards 3DS code for Donkey Kong Returns 3DS or any other platinum reward let me know in a PM

Didn't even realize I reached platinum status until yesterday and damn I'm disappointed. I already got Metroid back in November or December as a reward and I already have DKC Returns on the Wii. I feel like I have to get a Wii U because nothing on the 3DS rewards really interests me.

Too bad they never will release those GBA games on the 3DS VC again.

i just joined club nintendo today and with all of the game vouchers that the gamestop managers hoarded for me today im 90 points away from platnum already lol. will the free games avalible for platnu members change monthly ? im asking as i dont have a 3ds and the wii u offerings are kinda meh to me

also is there a thread where i can swap/sell club nintendo codes at ? im gonna have a ton of spares at this rate

The prize is once a year and you're going to have to wait about 365 days before you get your reward.

The 4 games listed for coins change every month, but it's hard to say if they will be any better and you can pretty much assume that everything listed for platinum / gold will eventually be offered (and if they only offer one per month for Wii U, you pretty much know what to expect this year).

There is a thread in the trade area, but you might want to hold onto them to afford prizes (some of the better ones have cost 1,000 coins as of late) and you can always use your coins next year to hit platinum.

Coins expire after 2 calendar years.

There is a thread in the trade area, but you might want to hold onto them to afford prizes (some of the better ones have cost 1,000 coins as of late) and you can always use your coins next year to hit platinum.

Coins expire after 2 calendar years.
so when i hit platnum i have to wait a year to get my reward after picking it ? also thanks about the 2 year thing. i could be getting doubles and tripples of these codes soon so i can stash some for next summer when new awards are shown :D

Those prizes were for last years platinum members. You're this years, so you have to wait 320 days, bitch about how much you hate the program and the platinum prizes can't possibly be worse than last year and then another 45 days later the prizes will be announced and you get to spend a month bitching about how Nintendo managed to make it worse... or thats how it goes for me anyway.

He's saying you won't qualify til next year. Because the games they're offering now are for platinum members from the past year. You needed to hit platinum status by July 1st this month to get in on these reward downloads.

You might as well relax on redeeming codes since you're going to be getting some post play surveys for 10 coins apiece.

aww man why couldnt i start hoarding codes in june ? lol. i would have taken a chance on game and wario
You've been around CAG for a while. This is all new to you?

Don't forget that in addition to the once-a-year Elite rewards, there are monthly games that are available to redeem your coins for as well. They are generally 200-250 points but are nothing like Game & Wario - they are usually VC games or occasionally DSiware stuff. The title of this thread has the current offerings.

The Club Nintendo code trade thread is here:

Depending on what you have duplicates of, I might be interested in doing some trading. There are a bunch of codes that expire this year or early next year that you will no longer be able to redeem after that point. But check out that thread for more info...
