[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Sorry I am at work and keep getting blocked on my web searches. Can somebody post accurate GB sizes on these games please?

New Super Mario Bros.

Wii U Party

Pikmin 3

LOZ: WWHD

Game and Wario

NES Remix

Dr. Luigi

Thanks in advance

p.s.

And I also correct in saying that there is 25GB of usable space on a 32GB model?

Yes, it's like 24.8 GB usable.

New Super Mario Bros. 1.69 GB

Wii U Party 5.41 GB

Pikmin 3 3.95 GB

LOZ: WWHD 1.71/2.6 GB (Depending on source, not near my WiiU to double chcek)

Game and Wario 3.9 GB

NES Remix 403-830 MB (User reports in the 400's, Official size is 830 in press releases)

Dr. Luigi 135 MB

Also the problem I have with these promo's is the digital games will not fit on the system's storage forcing you to purchase an external hard drive with a power supply because that is the only kind recommended by Nintendo and also the hardest and most expensive to come by.
Nintendo may not recommend them, but you can use a USB drive for game storage. I've been using a $10 16 GB drive and it has worked fine so far. Even if something went wrong, the worst that could happen is that I'd lose a $10 drive and have to redownload the games that were on it.

Cool Thanks for the help so all of those should fit on the hard drive correct? And is it safe to use a USB drive for game saves and profiles?

Yeah all of those should fit on the built in memory just fine. I think so but I haven't tried it. I believe you can use an SD card for that stuff as well, just not games.

Haven't tried any of that though so I can't speak from experience.

yea I know that but I have like 4 or 5 copies at least of it that I got few months ago for $3.49 each so figured I would eventually open one copy to actually play
Wat Da fak? Where do you find those, lucky bastard????

Seriously, if you want to play it, go for it (especially if you have other ones sealed)

kmart lol and yea I usually buy at least doubles of certain games for that reason but for the price I paid I couldn't pass on the rest. it was some kmart up in the mountains literally about 40 minutes to the closest town and half the roads round the place were dirt roads

I thankfully don't have that problem because Rye buys all the good stuff.

October 24, 2015. I actually have one here to check. But if you don't, you can just use Wikipedia to look at when the game was released in NA. If it was 2010 or later, then just add 4 years to that date.

Thanks for the 2010 bit...I'd heard of the 4 year expiration but wasn't sure of the specifics.

You can also use bing.com to search for release date info and get the answer right in the search results. For example just search "kirby return to dreamland release date" and "October 24, 2011" pops up right at the top of the search results.

Not that it matters (mostly because this saves little to no time), but Google also does that.

So I thought I had gotten Dillon's Rolling Western back when it was available for 200 coins but it was not on my 3DS so I figured I must have been wrong. But I was looking at my coin history on Club Nintendo and there it was. I found the email and apparently I just never entered it in the eShop. Man, am I glad I didn't get another for 250 last month or redeem my platinum reward to get it .

And yeah, I'm already platinum now for the current year, and I still have my Game & Wario registration (which along with pending post-plays for this club year alone adds up to 160 unredeemed coins) plus a huge number of codes that expire this year.

I feel like this has happened with io before...

That was different. I had redeemed a Paper Mario code on my wife's account and she regularly deletes her email. The difference there was that I knew I had not redeemed it yet but with the email gone I thought it was lost until someone revealed the support page trick to getting your codes back.

For Dillon's Rolling Western the code was still sitting in my inbox from December.

This is why I don't delete my email ;).

Ugh, I don't know what's worse, this year's platinum prizes or the crap like playing cards and pin sets.  At least I will be willing to mess around with most of these games a bit, more than I can say for some of the more recent crap.  And we can all agree that it's better than a re-release of the CD right?

Well I don't have NES Remix or G&W or Dr Luigi yet, guess I will choose between those  :???:

At any rate, anyone else think it's odd that DKCR is thrown in with all these other eshop games?  I know Game and Wario is technically a retail game as well (rofl), I guess they threw it in cause it was a basic port or something?  Or has it not been selling?

It's the Year of Funky Kong.

So Platinum rewards came out. Game & Wario or Donkey Kong Returns 3D?

Damn. Decisions...decisions...

Let's hope I don't lag on this decision cuz I did last year and missed out on the rewards.

Get dankey kang. It's actually a good game. Not as good as the Wii version, but better than G&W.

SD Cards only work for Wii VC/ShopGames. Flash Drives and External HDD's work for Wii U games only.

I would say the CD / posters were better than these prizes. When push comes to shove, almost every platinum reward has had some resale value and I would say the CD averages $20+ on eBay. This is contrary to this prize, since eBay and digital items don't mix well (I've heard a lot of horror stories about people selling codes / vouchers and getting burned) and reselling it on sites like CAG doesn't yield much cash (I've gotten maybe 7 offers and they've all been in the $8 dollar range, which is only $3 more than I would get redeeming any Wii U game), so this boil down to how much interest you have in the given selection. If you're like me and need $5 in DDP credit to get another $5 for $15* you're basically looking at no 3DS games (I already own DK digitally) and then I don't want to own an NES game for the 10th time, not terribly interested in a reskinned Dr. Mario, NES Remix 1 has so many less notable titles when examined next to 2, Earthbound is great, though I get the strongest impression that game will be sold for coins at some point (and I got 2,000+ to burn) and Game & Wario offers the most non game related value... though overall I much rather have something I can throw in the corner or sell for like $20.

I would say go NES Remix, since it at least tries to put a new spin on many classics instead of just reskinning them.

There could be some logic behind DKCR that we might not be seeing. One of the more obvious answers is Nintendo trying to push copies of Tropical Freeze by giving out DKCR. This reminds people how awesome DKCR and makes them think "I should consider buying that." On the more conspiracy theory side of things, it could be that DKCR met certain conditions to make it the best and safest title to give away. Like it was recently part of the Pokemon X & Y promo and of that there was MK 7 (with them trying to sell 8, giving 7 could remove sales), Super Mario 3D Land (already given out and they rightfully assume people don't want double dips), Animal Crossing (Nintendo probably assumes this will continue to sell), DKCR, Lego (would be a weird platinum reward) and Yoshi (too new). Nintendo probably figured out of all these games DKCR had enough redemptions where most people would get screwed and it had sold all it was ever going to really sell. Though for all we know there is a less malicious reason, like it has a terrible intend to buy to purchase ratio or something like that too.

* Many of the better eShop titles are $15 and I am not looking to spend any actual money on them if I don't have to.

Isn't that a third party connector, unlike the ps2 one? I'm pretty sure he was referring to nintendo making a connector for it's own system (although, I think there was an official one in Japan, but again I think this conversation is about official ones in the US).
To play phanstay star online and some other games you needed the network/modem depending on which you bought to get to them online.

Or if you where using it to stream your gamecube backup iso's from you computer to your gamecube.

I'm aware of what it was, & can still be used for. I was just referring to the fact that the Nintendo Adapter was made by Conexant. At least, I know the adapters released here were made by Conexant. Whereas Sony made their own.
Only pointing that out because I thought that is what the original conversation was about: nintendo not really having or caring about Ethernet.
The only nintendo games for the GC that had LAN capabilities built in were MK DD & Kirby Air Ride.

I will go look at my modem and see. I guess I will need to remove my plaitnum GBA player to get to the modem.
