I'm going with the punch-out download. Who know, but Doc may be one of the most challenging bouts in the game. However, I do hope the game is more than one fight. If the fight is similar to the wii bouts, we will get to fight him twice with Doc sporting a new outfit for the second match.
I am sure it will be like the game, but only doc. With that said, I think their will be a second fight with an alternate costume/patterns.

Meh, the prizes are ok, not great. I had my hopes to high, as I was hoping for a DS game, along those lines. I chose the Mario hat. The Punch Out game ( can you even call it a game?) is a poor prize compared to what Club Nintendo in Japan gets. Well, at least we got something, but seriously, next time NOA needs to get a little more creative in their prizes, as if I'm not mistaken, Japan club nintendo got the Mario hat and calendar last year as well. There is always next year. :)

Japan's Club Nintendo prize site. Down at the bottom is what appears to be their rewards for this year. Some kind of wii remote (possibly the tv remotes?) and a tingle ds game + calendar.

If those aren't the new prizes, I don't understand why they're still on the bottom of the page a year later.

Look at the dates. The Wii remote was the plat reward for 2005. It was actually a universal remote built into a Wii remote shell. Haw haw.

The Tingle cart is Tingle Balloon fight which was 2006's reward. It's an exact clone of Balloon Fight with Tingle replacing the original protagonist. I have it and it's pretty shit but I did like it enough that I held onto it even after selling my DS the first time. I'm pretty sure there was an option to get your Mii on the battery cover of your remote as well but I can't remember what year that was.

The Golden Wheel is pretty sweet and I bought one for my sister since she only drives with the wheel. I haven't touched the hat but it seems like a waste to me. Nothing touches the old rewards (specially branded controllers, GBA replacement shells, etc.) IMO.

Yeah ... I saw the dates, but I didn't know why they'd be picturing the two of them down there plus a gold rewards calendar in the format that our prizes were structured. But my point was that even if they got recycled prizes, those are way better than ours ... which I'm satisfied with.

So, are the prize pages broken right now, or is my computer being a bitch? It's not loading the pictures of either platinum prize, the bottom half of the page says "connection interrupted", and there's no option to order the hat, only Punch-Out. Anyone else having trouble?

Edit: Looks like it's down for maintenance now.

You have it wrong, those are just examples of past prizes that Nintendo gave out. Here's the schedule for the Japanese Club Nintendo:

-JP Club Nintendo Year: October 1st - September 30th
-Elite status prizes for the year are announced in Mid-November, on a page like this.
-Prizes must be redeemed by December 15th
-Calenders are sent out in December, other physical goods may be set for anytime between January and April.

And the JPCN Elite status prize history, copied from Burgertime of the Screwattack forums:
Gold Members: Calendar

Platinum Members:
2008: Golden Wii Wheel OR Real Mario Hat

2007: Super Nintendo controller for Wii OR 2-CD Super Mario Galaxy soundrack

2006: Mii-imprinted (customized) Wii Remote batter cover, or 'Tingle's Balloon Fight' game for DS

2005: Universal Remote that looks like a Wii Remote (Without another choice, Platinum members got BOTH the calender AND the remote)

2004: Gamecube Promo disk (and calendar)

2007 was the "best" year for prizes. And I already have the 2-disc Galaxy Soundtrack (which is indeed awesome). Did anyone really believe they were going to give North America a SNES controller? That was just wishful thinking transformed into rumor on internet message boards (esp. this one). Apparently many of you had convinced yourselves it might actually happen, in which case I understand your disappointment.

People mostly seem to be complaining about not getting CONTROLLERS (famicom, gold wheel). Granted, those are fairly cool - but the main draw of Tingle's Balloon Fight is that it came in an actual cartridge. As a GAME, it's really no less cool than fighting the Doc... and some of you seem to hate the idea of that ONLY because it means you can't profit from it, which doesn't really get my sympathy.

These prizes are pretty comparable, on average, with what Europe has been getting as "free" prizes.

Me, I'm torn. I am tempted by the big stupid plush Mario hat that won't ever fit me. It's awesome, come on - as for "nerdy" - what, are we all thirteen? we're all on a freaking Nintendo internet message board, for godssakes!

And someone else I know is getting the WiiWare Doc Louis, so I know I'll at least be able to try it out.
I sadly am platinum and would actually PREFER the calender. Useless demo and a nerdy hat? no thanks.
I'd trade you for that hat but it looks like by the time the prizes get shipped we'd have little interest left

I think most of us want a playable collector's item.
I think most of us want a playable collector's item.
Assuming that Nintendo keeps their word and this is the only way to get the Doc Louis WiiWare game, then you are getting a playable collector's item. Assuming there's some secondary market demand for it, any Wii with the game download will receive an increase in value.

Granted, it's not the same as getting a DS cart or a disc (which is what you're presumably asking for), but I think we're actually looking into the future of gaming. As we progress to a non-physical media market, collector's items will inevitably end up being either one-time physical printings of niche games (akin to the Mega Man 9 press kit, but a functional game) or limited time downloads.

The limited ability to sell or trade downloads may ultimately kill the "collector's" market in the next generation of systems.

I was kinda not expecting much since it is Nintendo. After seeing the prizes I was meh until I actually realized my nerd points will increase with wearing this damn hat. So I am very happy, free mario hat :D.

is anyone having trouble getting through the pages and pages of confirmations to confirm your order? I get to the third confirmation and it says my connection is interrupted.

I just got this email from nintendo. No code? What is wrong with them??

I am sure someone with the claender would glad to trade with you

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't care enough to go through that trouble. But if i had the choice I would take the calender.

was 100 points away from platinum and forgot about the deadline. Anybody wanna figure out a trade for the calender, pm me. (the wifey ain't gonna let me hang that in our new house, that won't have a man cave any more:()

Any asshole not appreciating the free shit can die in a fire and get out of line so those of us who want our goddamn hats can get one.

You could probably argue that since it is actually impossible to get this game any other way, the value of it is probably a lot higher then a disc would be. If it were a disc, some of those discs would end up on ebay right away. How many Wii's with this download game on it are going to show up on ebay right away? Ever? So in that sense, by being a gifted download game it has even higher value.

EDIT: Imagine after, say, 5 years, if someone had a Wii with all 5 exclusive download games on it? That Wii would be worth quite a pretty penny, most likely.

I actually would consider going with the punch-out demo if I could read some impressions of it, but nintendo's not sending out the codes immediately for whatever reason.
Maybe if we all ask nicely, we can get a Samus helmet next year.
I would buy every first party game if I had to- to get a samus helmet. I want that so bad..........!

Ordered the game. The hat would add to my swag room, but I could always get it off eBay. I have a feeling the game will be much less common.

Nintendo will send you an email with a link to obtain a game code for this WiiWare game.
Note: This email will be sent to you by November 1, 2009.

Please verify that the email address we have on file for you is correct. Your game code will be sent to the email address below. If you need to update the email address, click "change account email".

Assuming you choose Doc Lewis DLC, I think the codes could be transferred as Nintendo website states its a game code, not a gift to your wii.
Was this already mentioned?

I have 100% the same logic.

I went with the game. It just seems to me that, if you're going to get free stuff for purchasing games, then additional game content is a pretty cool thing to get.

Is it as cool as the prizes Japan has been getting of late? No, not really. But it's a little extra chunk of one of Nintendo's best recent games. And it didn't even cost me any Coins. I'm not complaining.

So, as people trade codes of one promo for another, thought this might be useful. I'm basing this info purely on my own best estimate of what the value would be for a similar product as offered by Club Nintendo. Now you can argue that there's some premium since this stuff is exclusive to the club, but that's basically the same as most other "point" programs. So consider this just a "baseline" and if you feel there should be a premium then keep that in mind when trading/selling your codes.

I've come up with an estimate that says each Club Nintendo "coin" is worth about 2.5 cents. This works out to $2.50 per 100 coins. That gives the following values for each of the Club Nintendo items:
Reward value
Game & Watch $20.00
Silver Nintendo DS Game Card Case $17.50
White Nintendo DS Game Card Case $15.00
Hanafuda Cards $20.00
Mario Party Playing Cards $12.50
Animal Crossing Playing Cards $12.50
Mario Nintendo DS Game Rack $15.00
Nintendo DS Lite Game Card and Stylus Set (Navy Blue) $15.00
Nintendo DS Lite Game Card and Stylus Set (Super Mario Bros. Theme) $15.00
Nintendo DS Lite Game Card and Stylus Set (Animal Crossing Theme) $15.00
Nintendo DS Lite Case (Silver) $10.00
Wii Remote Holder $7.50

Now, given the price of most 3-rd party items are somewhat cheaper than these prices, I'd consider that "exclusive premium" already built in. As for eBay values, really only the Game & Watch collection and the Hanafuda cards. Recent completed auctions range from $20-$44 for the G&W (but mostly shipping from Japan - shipping included in those prices). For Hanafuda, I could only find them available from Japan ranging from $26-31. I would think that prices for items shipping from USA should be somewhat lower, therefore, the prices in my values table still seemed fairly reasonable based on actual sales, but adjusting for assumed lower shipping costs for a USA-USA transaction.

I took the hat, I figure that in a year they would just release the punchout add content for everyone. I mean why go to all the effort to code an extra character if only select people and download it and the stand to profit from releasing it on wii ware eventually....

Well, they released multiple games that have not been available at retailers (tingle games, G&W collection) both here and in Japan. It's definitely within their logic to do that... actually there are a lot of games that do that with pre-order costumes, etc. So it's definitely not unheard of.

Yeah, Exclamation Warriors and Game & Watch Collection 2 are some more examples.
