Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars - Gen Info & Discussion

What the hell. Every Marketplace download I'm looking forward to is getting delayed. First Marvel, now this? The world hates me.

ARGHHH. I am having a hard time waiting for this. If someone is able to DL it, please say something in this thread!!!

I have been playing this to death on the PC and I will definitely pick this up when it drops. I am curious, though, as to how the control is without a mouse.

Man this is taking longer than any demo I've tried before, even Crackdown.

I think I'm just gonna delete it and start it again next Wednesday, when I get back from a mini vacation.

I like the demo, ALOT, the controls are actually really good, my only dislike is it seems the cursor moves too fast, hopefully you can turn the speed down a bit in the full game.

Cursor speed is actually just fine. You'll see in the bigger maps once the game comes out. The demo map is small sized.

The controls are decent. The game is quite playable because it's a very simple RTS compared to say SupCom or World in Conflict, however I think this is about as far as console RTS can go, no complex micro or large scale macro. Going through the different tabs for infantry, structures etc is really slow and thats where the game bogs down. PC players vs 360 players will have a considerable advantage if/when it happens.

I managed to fast tech mammoth rush someone in less time than it took me to finish burning a DVD (about 4 minutes) so the gameplay is reasonably competitive to PC ;)

Is there some universal anti rush rule in CnC games, or was the person I just finished off in like 6 minutes who was screaming "GTFO" the entire time just a whiney bitch? I haven't played any CnC games online aside from Red Alert on the old dial up.

Dude probably just wanted a chance to mess around a little bit more, it is the first day of the demo... but it sounds like he's a wuss :)

Anyone else got some more impressions? I'm 360less until I go home for this summer so I'm trying to live through others :)

He said there is some universal rule not to rush until 20 minutes in and any CnC player should know that. I was in his base at that point, so I said "Sorry, didn't know" and hes like "Well go away for 20 minutes, so I can bloody build" (it was an english person) and I was like nah and just finished him off. I was under the impression any RTS game released in the last 5 years pretty much has set a precedent. If you don't rush, you'll be rushed, and unless something is decided before hand, just play as if the game is goina take 10 min.

Wow just played for 3 hours. Pretty fun. But I can already tell I won't like playing online much. I had flashbacks of horror form WC3 days.

In most RTS's, such as this one, everyone pretty much has the same tactic. Rushing. Because of this, so much of the outcome comes down to mastery of the controls and how fast you are building. To make things worse, almost everyone rushes to build the same thing (in this case, mass tanks) and rushes.

That's all fine and dandy, but just not very fun to me. I feel like RTS games are really only fun when they go on for a long time. But in most cases, matches are over in minutes because of the above.

Ya that's what I hate too...I remember playing an RTS like crazy back in the day, and I found it really fun as everyone built up their stuff with then slowly attacked each other. Eventually it just became all rushing and stuff, and I did that for awhile cause there was no way to beat it. I was actually in the top clan there or 1 of the 2...but it got boring in a couple weeks so I just quit lol. All you get is 20 minutes to build up, then a sudden rush, and a huge slowdown on your pc

omg it's Boomer!(Athena, whatever.)

Just had a BSG fanboy moment in the first demo mission. Really suprised how well the controller scheme works so far.

Whew, this was the first time Ive played a C&C game, and I'm in love. DO the units usually build so quickly, or is that just cause of the demo?

Gonna have to check this out. C&C was always < WarCraft in my book back in the day, but I sucked at them all anyway, so it didn't matter too much. ;)

man I want to play this sooo bad. Gotta wait a few more days...
hearing that the control scheme is actually good is pretty exciting, I could never play C&C games on the PC cause my PC never could run them well at all. RTS games are one of my favorite genres.

But one thing that would make the online fun is having multiplayer online...like teams of 2 fighting another team of 2 for example, which I'm assuming they have right? 4vs4 would be a blast...

I loved red alert 1 and 2 and i also liked this game but both times online the people have lagged out. So we will see. It is very fun though

Yeah, Trisha Helfer is in the game too (Six from BSG).

A thought just occurred to me, you could definitely use the camera to help you win. Just convince your gf/wife to show her goods while you play, and watch how much easier it is to win :).

Im still trying to master the units control thats the only thing im having trouble with and see what each building does b/c the text is so small

LOL. He thought you should line up, facing each other on the open battlefield and draw your muskets. Sorry, Cornwallis.

I had fun with it but wasn't a big fan of some of the controls. IE selecting all units (which was supposed to be a one button thing, but it only selected so many units for me) and I can't see how much this has evolved since my favorite RTS of all time: Warcraft 2, as it seemed like pretty much the same thing. Yeah were gonna rush you all night baby!

The controls while I don't like them are a hell of alot better then the Starcraft 64 conversion back in the day. The RTS is probably the last genre I prefer with a mouse and keyboard (MMORPG works fine, I liked Everquest Online Adventures. FPS work fine on consoles to (Halo).

Wow, this game is great! Didnt think I could get used to the controls but I did. I'm in the process of purchasing a new PC soon and I'll probobly just get it for PC just cause its still easier with a mouse but it sucks that the achievements aren't on the PC version.

Never had this issue before but I cant get the demo downloaded. I get to 84% everytime and then it seems to stop. I cleared all my download, made sure the network was not having issues on my side. Made sure the 360 had enough room for more stuff but yet it dies there even after a days wait. I turned the system off and back on and everything. Ideas? I really want to try this game.

Hmm well Microsoft support would just tell you to "Keep deleting the demo that wasn't fully downloaded and try again till it works" How many times have you tried that???

While I was able to get a hang of the controls, it still felt clunky. I would still much rather have a mouse interface. That's the reason I've barely touch LOTR:BFME.

3xs now, I cant figure on what else to try. It does the DL fine till it gets to 84% then it hits a wall. Often its not listen in the demos area or the current downloads area. I will look and under memory its listed as a demo with a ! mark before it. I delete it there and start over.

i am really impressed with the control scheme on this.

it sounds really complex durring the training, but i got a hold of it really quickly. and had some fun.

the graphics are good and smooth. i think i may have to pick it up now.

Man wish I knew...I know how much it sucks cause I've been wanting to play it real bad, and finally today I can download it. (If I don't encounter similar problems like yours that is XD). Only other thing I can think of from what I heard is maybe changing your router to a different slot or changing those internet settings...like going through a different port or whatever its called.

Man, I'm kinda in the same boat you are...I was really impressed by the 360 demo (huge improvement over LOTR), but I'm kinda leaning towards getting the PC version ($39 versus $59 doesn't hurt, either).

Has anyone played both? Can you zoom farther out on the PC version? I thought the zoom level in the 360 demo was an improvement over LOTR, but still kinda too close.

Well to anyone deciding over the PC or 360 version...I'd say the PC version will be better for RTS games for a long time yet...but thats IF you have a high end computer, and also if you don't have any friends that are really addicted to live and like playing/talking over the 360. Ya...from all the RTS I've played...if you have a good comp that can handle it unlike me DEFINITELY get the PC version. Oh ya...forgot about cheaters...if you're really worried about em the PC is probably the bad choice lol

I have had this issue come up many times before and for me its always come down to PC games cant or cant easily be traded back in towards another game when your done. 39 vs 59 is seen differently when you look at this issue.

ahh ya that's true, if you trade your stuff in then you'll def. get more for the console stuff. I never have traded anything in so I didn't think of that.

I downloaded this demo too and it's pretty good. I think it took me half an hour maybe or less? I didn't know I had such a good connection lol...
Controls are great but...one huge complaint: MAKE THE TEXT BIGGER FOR SDTVS!!!!! Gah I can't even read it for more than 10 minutes before I get eye strain...and also the demo lacks in the single player area in that it doesn't really let you play on your own and get the hang of things....but that shouldn't affect the real game. Anyway I won't buy it at release solely cause the text kills my eyes...I'll wait till it falls 20$

I can very easily sell them on Ebay, though. Or sell them on here, or another trade site.

Hell, with the dumbass EB / GS employees around here, it's a lot easier to sell something on Ebay then try and trade it in towards them, and getting stuck with credit that only works at one store.

I wouldn't trade anything in at EB though, no matter what system it was on.
