Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars - Gen Info & Discussion

does this have cross platform online capabilities, can you have a xbox 360 going vs a pc? because if thats the case the 360 would lose every time because it would take longer to build structures because of the controls

Nope, the first cross platform title is gonna be Shadowrun.

I'm actually starting to like this game more and more as I play it. Had only played the whole SP part and 1 MP game before, played another MP game today and actually won this time since I knew what I was doing more from the first loss. And after you know what everything looks like, you dont even need the text on an SDTV lol

This time I had like 12 mammoth tanks or so and I went across the map to attack his base with a few infantry troops as well. He actually appeared to be way better off/faster set up than me though. I went across, and suddenly about 6-7 mammoth tanks appeared from the side, and I maybe lost one or two in that battle and a few were damaged. Then ANOTHER 5-6 came and after all those fights I was left with 4 or 5 left, and 3 of them were badly damaged. So I destroyed everything he had in that corner, but i still didn't win. So I went to another corner and he had begun to set up an entire new base there, which I didnt know was possible lol. But ya I ended up winning with 3 badly damaged tanks...those support structures were helpful too for his infantry/smaller tank raids. Anyway that was a fun one, and he was pretty good too. I gotta figure out how to use the ion cannon now and maybe set up a 2nd base as well. (The radar was helpful too...I learned how to use it that game)

While playing the demo, I kept hearing the voice say "silo's needed" but I couldn't find the silos in the structures menu. Am I looking in the right place? Or do I have to select something first?

Picked this up on my lunch break. I especially like the Vision feature from the trailer, can't wait to try it out.

I can't believe no one has posted in here today.

I saw multiple copies of this game at a local "Tar-jay" (spelled for phonetic pronunciation) and Best Buy. As a matter of fact, now that I think about it, yes, I impulsively purchased it at the latter.

Maybe I'm just a bit too hardcore of an RTS player to be satisfied with one on a console, but what exactly do you guys like about this game? To me, RTS's are all about two things - mathematical strategy and micromanagement speed.

Due to the lack of control groups and the large max group size, micromanagement doesn't even really exist. There's very little that needs to be done in combat other than attack-move. The ceiling on macromanagement skill is pretty low as well, due to the lack of hotkeys and control customization.

But control aside, by far my biggest issue is how many steps they took to completely destroy the strategy side of things. The lack of statistical information for units and buildings is just mind boggling, as statistical analysis is definitely the strongest strategic element of the genre, but above and beyond that the whole nuke thing is ridiculous, the ONLY thing it adds to the game is another element of luck. Luck is something the developer should be looking to eliminate from an RTS, not add.

Extremely disappointed.

I think everything you just said, is the reason I like it. I'm not hardcore, and most of what you just said is over my head :)

Plus is has Michael Ironside, and I got a $10 GC at CC with purchase :)

I plan on getting it from CC. Went today to get it but they never got it in for some reason. The managers were not happy since they had to give out $20 gift cards to everyone that wanted it... I was there at 4 (as everyone knows it was guarenteed to be there by 2pm). The cashier tried to tell me that they just sold out....lol... I guess they were really trying to avoid giving out the giftcards. I will be picking this up and getting the $10 giftcard for sure....

Is there a timeframe for this, I mean can I stop by today to try to get a GC?

Same thing happened today to me too. I got there at 1:45 and had to wait for a long time while they looked at the back. About 20 min later, another employee asked me if I needed help and I told her if they had CC3 and she said they just sold out. I then asked her if it is, how come the other employee was in the back looking for it and how come I was there at 1:45 and there wasnt even any copies on the floor.

She knew she got caught so I asked her about the $20 gift card and she went to talk with her manager about it. They seemed reluctant to do it but they did it, so they used the $20 gift card off the game and gave me a $10 gift card since I "bought" the game. I paid for the remainder and he told me to hold on the receipt and to bring it next time when they have the game so I can pick it up. Very time consuming (got out of there at 3:15) but at least they gave me the gift cards.

My guy conveniently forgot about the gift card, until after the transaction. I asked for the GC and he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. Then he gets on the phone to ask what to do.

At one point I hear "...yeah hes still standing here, guess he really wants his gift card..."

WTF, like I'm going to give up and walk away?

So he gives me a blank GC and tells me to go to CS to get it loaded. Cutie girl tried, but that GC had already been used?!? So She got me another one that worked, and I was finally on my way. I went ahead and used the GC on a DVD so I wouldn't have to go back.

Those Circuit City layoffs were very apparent today.

I went back today to pick it up. THe same guy that told me yesterday that they didn't have it yet was there. He told me they found them after they had given out several giftcards, someone had them in the back and they couldn't find them for some reason... So they were giving out giftcards because one of the associate had put the box of games somewhere it should not have been....lol.

Well I get the game and check out, the guy doesn't give me my giftcard. I asked for it, he said he didn't know how to do it. So we both go up to the service desk, the guy there had no idea on how to do it. After they both go and talk with the manager, I finally get my giftcard... took about 20 mins but I wasn't leaving without it...

That card and the $20 card for it not being out on release day are going toward Marvel Ultimate Alliance Gold next week...

Playing this game through gamefly. Lovin' it so far. BUT I can't help but think that the controls are going to be a hinderance later on when the action gets faster/hectic. This is compounded by the fact that I have never, ever finished a C&C game due to the difficulty in the late stages of the game. Sigh.

Anyone know how many missions each campaign has? I'd look it up but don't want to come across any spoilers.

For all those epople that like to build up armies, there is a siege mode which is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered for you.
So do ppl still play this game?
I just bought the game from best buy so I should be playing a lot by this weekend. But I was also wondering the same thing.

EA is making 360 users pay for the map pack? Are you for real?

EA just gave PC users 4 free maps with the last patch.

Talk about a kick in the nuts.

I think it's microsoft that is forcing us to pay. I ready in either Game Informer or OXM that developers want to offer free content but microsoft eventually ends up charging for it. And if they gave it free to the PC I agree with you why not make it free for 360 users as well.

Anyone still playing this? I picked it back up today, after being stuck for a while. Difficulty on this game, even on easy is ridiculous. Too many engineers dead - game over. :wall:

Update 7/26: C&C Will be Revolutionized on 8/7/07
cnc-revolution.jpg

Our buddies over at Gamertag Radio received an interesting email today. It's contents can be summarized in the image above. Yes, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will be revolutionized on August 7. What the hell does that mean? We have no earthly idea (and no unearthly idea for that matter). Gamertag Radio is stumped, too. All we do know is that whatever it is, you can uncover more info on August 7 at the official C&C3 website. We do, however, have some concrete details on the upcoming patch for C&C3. The patch is set to fix three major exploits in the game and should be available "soon." Alright, so maybe it's not concrete per se, but it's better than nothing, right?

Wonder what they have instore for us? I'm guessing new race?

Is CC:TW a must buy? ive thought about it but im not sure. then again i did waste $60 on Overlord. Im unsure i liked warhammer 40k series....will i like this?

I'm assuming it's an expansion of some sort.

I've been wanting this game for awhile, but I just can't spend 60 bucks on an RTS. I can run the PC version but I'm not much of a PC gamer these days. I want to sit, relax, and play on my HDTV. I just NOW picked up Battle for Middle-Earth II on the 360 since it's cheap now. BFME2 is making me want C&C 3 even more now. Must hold off until a price drop!
Wait, wait, wait. EA made an announcement, that they're making an announcement that will revolutionize C&C3, and the announcement is that they're announcing a new podcast that comes out in a week?
Well, that kinda sucks.
Why not release it today? Or a little bit earlier at least.

And yet, I'll probably still end up watching it.
I don't think its a podcast, seems like a C&C ESPN video show.
