CAGiversary!
I know the Hdloader only reads up to 120 gigs but this drive is cheaper than any 120 gig I've found on pricewatch.

160 gigs, 7200 RPM,8 MB cache (yay!) = $80.

There's no rebate, just $80 out the door. This will work in a PS2 according to http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/?p=list.

From what I can tell this is NOT offered online as I looked everywhere. I don't know if any other stores will price match this either but I'm going to check at Best Buy when I go today since it's closer than CompUSA.
where's the cheapest place to get the 'Loader from?
It seems like eBay has it for $29.25 + ~$4 shipping. I ordered mine from consolesource.com($34.99 + shipping) and I'm still waiting for ANY status on my order....I should have gotten mine off eBay.

I ordered mine from Consolesource also. I placed my order on Thur 6/24. Now realizing that it was coming from Canada I was not messing around so choose the expedited shipping 1-5 days. On Fri 6/25 I got an email stating that they were processing the order.

Mon 6/28 I recieved the email that they shipped it and the package arrived yesterday 7/1. All together it took a week. And I choose the fastest shipping.

NewEgg.com though was amazing. I ordered the 80 gb hd from them Tues morning 6/29. Thurs 7/1 there's Fed ex at my house with the Hd. For free shipping thats great.

I finally got on the "Queue" on their system. They said 24hrs to ship but we'll see.

You don't need a modchip to use the HDloader, unless you plan on backing up from backups(which I doubt you have any otherwise you'll already have the modchip).

I BELIEVE SO, SWAP MAGIC GOES FOR $65 AT THIS STORE IN MY AREA. IS THAT TOO MUCH? ALSO, I RECIEVED MY HDLOADER YESTERDAY AND ALL I NEED IS MY MAXTOR. I JUST FIGURED OUT WHY THE WESTERN DIGITALS DONT "FIT". IT IS BECAUSE THE CONNECTIONS BUILT ONTO THE HD DONT MATCH UP WITH THE CONNECTIONS ON THE MODEM WICH ARE BOTH STATIONERY.

hmm.. good idea. I might get modchip just so I can install backup and imports on my Harddrive using HDloader.. lol..

For anyone who picked up the MAxtor 120 GB drive at Fry's for $70 they're now offering Maxtor 160 GB for the same price. After two days!

Good thing I hadn't opened mine yet. It'll make the exchange a little quicker.

You won't be able to use the full capacity with HDLoader but it should give you an additional 17 GB over a 120 GB unit. Not a bad increase for the same price.

I got the 160 gig drive pricematched at staples today even AFTER the compusa sale was over. 71.44 total. Thanks for the deal
Mildly off topic, but here's a good tip for those of you with hdloader: before playing a game, hit install and then cancel, that way your dvd drive won't keep spinning, which it does most of the time otherwise for some crazy reason.
Thanks for the advice, I was wondering about if there was some way to keep the disk in there and have it work , and not have it spinning. This thing is great!

i've been hearing that the hd loader only recognizes 137 gigs of the 160 gig maxtor hard drive...however, my hd loader only recognizes 125 gigs :( and when i formatted it, it only had about 123 gigs free :(

what was the 2 gigs used for?
