Holy shit, I'm moving to Tokyo in three weeks!
There's no way I can bring all my stuff with me, so one lucky CAG is going to win 30+ games and a bunch of shwag (E3, TGS, etc.).

Simply post in this thread for a chance to win.
You must post something about Japan, winning my games, or what you would like to see me do (for your amusement) once I am living in Tokyo.

You may post as often as you wish, but that WILL NOT increase your chance of winning. One account/entry per person. You must be over 18 (or have your parents permission upon winning to receive M rated games) and in the continental US to be eligible to win. Winner will be chosen at random. Contest ends on or about 10/24/05.

Why am I moving to Japan?
Mrs. CheapyD got a great job and it requires us to move to Tokyo. Its basically an offer we can't refuse. I will still be able to run CAG from Japan and now I will be able to work on CAG full time. You can also likely expect new additions/features and possibly a new CAG sister website as I become Your Man In Japan.
Fear not! The focus of CAG will always be cheap video games.

Congratulations on your move to Tokyo! I'd like for CheapyD to take pictures of any cool places he visits in Japan and to post them here. Good luck!

Once in Japan, check out the arcades they have over there and post some pics if you can. Last time I went there (which was many years ago), they had some cool types of arcade games that I haven't seen around the US. You can also try looking for some other wacky things that they have over there.

Another cool thing you can do for this site is have contests for winning some stuff from Japan (games, swag, etc.) once in awhile.

Good luck in Japan CheapyD.

I would very much like to see a guide to budget game shopping in Japan. Where to go, which stores you found were the best, your best new aquisitions. All of that.

Also I would quite like to win PS2 Timesplitters 2 because I have to enlighten those who would appreciate but refuse the Gamecube like a rabid dog.

I'm very jealous - living in Tokyo in pretty high on my list of things to do - right under playing Super Monkey Ball with real monkeys!

Congrats to the missus too.

I think you need to cosplay as your favorite game character and walk around Tokyo, talking to random poeple (mostly good looking aisan-girls) about gaming and act like you are from some BIG american company and use a vdeocam to record it and put it up on the web for us.

that would be Awesome

Nice collection! Have fun in all those Japanese software stores. Let us know about those strange games that'll never see US release.

hmm. I would love to see you start a new "cheap ass" section covering cheap imports, or cheap places to buy games in Japan! Could be hard to cover though...

pick me! pick me!!! :)

enjoy Japan.

Cosplay. Aeris. Do it.

And get one of those trick swords that goes around you at the midsection and looks like it went all the way through. Wear that.

That ought to get some fanboys trippin. Hell, there are still people out there who think she can be resurrected.

I wish to win the games because I've been such a cheap gamer that I bought myself a Dreamcast off of eBay when I moved a couple of months ago. Since I've started my cheap collection, I might as well try to win the cheap games you're giving away!

Good luck on your trip!

Something about Japan: it is an island.
Something you should do: eat a live octopus (like in the movie Old Boy)
Winning Your Games: I would eat a live octopus (like in the movie Old Boy)

Have fun in Japan it is a great place to be...unfortunatly not cheap but for games it rocks.

I'm envious, I always wanted to live in Japan, good luck out there!

Also genitals in japanese porn is censored

In Japan, cars drive on the left side of the road and have the driver's seat and steering wheel on the right. The legal minimum age for driving is 18 years. Road signs and rules follow international standards, and most signs on major roads are in Japanese and English. Drinking and driving is strictly prohibited.

The typical speed limits are 100 km/h on expressways, 40 km/h in urban areas, 30 km/h in side streets and 50 km/h elsewhere, however, it is quite usual for drivers to exceed the speed limits by about 10 km/h.

Drivers generally tend to be well mannered and considerate. Some dangers on Japanese roads include drivers speeding over intersections despite the traffic light turning red, people stopping their vehicles at the edge of the street in a way in which they block traffic, and cyclists driving on the wrong side of the road

I would like cheapyD to take as many pictures of Engrish as possible and post them here... like www.engrish.com

That and I'd like CheapyD to put a futon in the basement so CAGs can come and visit Japan.

I lived in Japan for two years while I was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base (near Tokyo). One of the highlights while I was there was going on a trip up to a mountain where they had a fire-walking ceremony. The mountain is known for these warriors who lived there for centuries. Each year, they build a huge bon fire and perform a sword ritual dance. Hundreds of people are watching as the fire burns down and each of the warriors walks across the coals.

Afterwards, I was totally shocked to see everyone watching get up and form a line to walk the coals. There were children and old ladies... everyone did it. I couldn't believe it. I think it's suposed to cleanse your soul or something. Anyways, I would love to see a pic of CheapyD doing that. :)

So CheapyD.. why are you moving to Tokyo Japan anyways? How long will you be there? Have you ever been?

I would really like a periodic editorial about certain Japanese games that we request (I.E Tales of the Abyss, RPG's that come out much later in the USA) and we can ask questions and whatnot.

well, i'm new to the site, thank kotaku for mentioning it and a boring afternoon at work...
I would like to see you subsist for a month entirely on vending machine merchandise! nothing purchased that doesn't come from one of our lovable immobile robot servants..er..friends

i hope to enjoy much future CAGing, yes!

Run through a pachinko parlor screaming "NO SMOKING!!! NO SMOKING!!!" while ripping cigarettes from players' mouths and stomping them out.

Or sing karaoke with Bill Murray.

Just my 2 cents. . .

Ahhhh... the pearl of the orient. Have fun with the mosquito's the size of poodles, and typhoon season. If you get a chance, hop on ship/plane and be sure to go visit Guam. With the US Military there, it's like a little america if you ever get home sick. Also stay a way for someone named Fuji. Everyone over there keeps trying to Mount her. (That's my best Japan pun. Sorry)

don't go
don't go
don't go
don't go
don't go
don't go

but if you must

pick me
pick me
pick me
pick me
pick me
pick me

Couldn't think of anything else :)

I would just love to see CheapyD walk out onto a busy area of the city during rush hour and all of a sudden point up and scream "oh no Godzilla" and see how many people give him a dirty look

y dun u split up the games with their respective consoles to three different winners? That way we would have a greater chance of winning sumthin plus it wont b overwhelming for that one lucki person who might alreadi own some of them.

a better idea is to have users post which console they would like to win. therefore every1 gets what they want and would b happi. u should combine ur cube with a ps1 and ur other misc stuff.

on that note i would like to win either a cube, xbox, or ps2 =]
since i dun own any console besides my late dreamcast =[

The only thing I can say about Japan is that I am teaching about Japan in my Social Studies class. All they want to talk about are video games...it's hard to share a hobby with my 7th graders.

I would like to see you Dress up as a Puffer/Blow Fish, and eat puffer/blow fish sushi (the one that has a chance to kill), and tell us how it tastes and compares to video games.

Winning the games would be nice, but unfortunately, there's one thing missing from the stack...
As I scrolled down the list I noticed the absence of Aquaman...
I should've know that you're bringing your copy of Aquaman with you to Japan, just couldn't live without it I guess...
While you're in Japan take some pictures of the arcades out there, I hear good things...

I went to Japan (Kyoto & Tokyo) once. Definately take a day and see Tokyo Disney. It's interesting to see what they have (and for that matter haven't) translated from the American version.

I want cheapy to make a documentary on how it is to be a tall american in japan, if possible walk around tokyo subway in a godzilla costume a-la jackass. I'd also want the free games because i'm a broke cheap ass college student with about 40 bucks a month to spend on games living off vending machines, ramen noddles and 99cent wendys nuggets!, also so I can play something other than GTA:SA over and over. Plus I have a pretty mean arnold schwarzenegger impersonation.
