I think the game got slammed a ton unfairly.. I just got done playing God of War 2, and by the second half of the game I had already fought most of the enemies and they didn't really change it up - this is something a lot of reviews slammed Dante's Inferno on. Hell, most people just use one or two combos in GoW too, same as Dante. In fact, a lot of the problems people had with this game, imo, are pretty apparent in both GoW and GoW 2 (and I love both games a ton).
The one thing I really have to slam this game on is that it seems like they just ran out of steam near the end... the last circle is really short for being so great looking (and a nice change of pace), and the game just kind of loses fuel instead of driving towards an epic ending.
Last boss was stupidly hard, too... takes way too much damage to defeat.[/QUOTE]
This game isn't being unfairly judged... GoWII came out in 07, and Visceral Games clearly lifted the combat from GoW but they didn't really improve anything on what GoWII (or really, even the original GoW) had already established. Enemies might have been just as varied but they sure weren't smarter, not to mention most of the game felt too easy (on normal). The only time I died by an enemy's hands was the 2nd form of the final boss. Critics have every right to be harsh.
It's not a bad game though, by any means. I enjoyed it, for what it's worth (except for the story, maybe).
