Because if they drop the price they don't correct it, you have to cancel and reorder and because they're based in the UK, I get fees on my card (40 to 50 cents) for transferring to a different currency each time I have to cancel and re-order due to a lower price, even when ordering from the .com website and they've dropped the price two times already.
That sucks that they dont correct it but the fees aren't their fault. I use paypal and there's no fees for that so do that instead if you can.

hmm think this may be worth a buy. Is futurepress a pretty good company? I stopped buying guides a long time ago because they really went down hill. Versus was pretty good and double jump was alright, but Prima and stuff like that started really sucking. Never really heard of futurepress. I'm also a bit leery with the complaints im hearing about book depository

this is the kinda of game that would probably need a GOOD guide, with lots of detailed charts and data spreads
does anyone know if this is gonna be diff from the us version (since its from the UK atm?) i heard futurepress' UK version usually has teh name on the spine go backwards?
I got the deus ex, bayonetta and portal guides from uk stores and they all had the name on the spine on the bottom not the to top end like us guides. Kinda annoying but the quality of the guides is awesome... My deus ex and portal guides both came from BD in great condition.

this is the kinda of game that would probably need a GOOD guide, with lots of detailed charts and data spreads
FuturePress is probably the best guide maker today, possibly second only to Piggyback, who made the FFXIII guide (though I can't really say if Piggyback is better since I have only one guide by them and several by FuturePress). FuturePress puts so much time and effort into making their guides and the results are amazing. I've never been disappointed by one of their guides, and I've even made a semi-oath to myself to collect as many of their guides as possible because of how well they're written and how much fun they are to read.

I can't speak for ordering from BD (though I've heard not-so-good things about people ordering the Deus Ex guide from them), as I'm getting my guide from Gamestop with the game to save $5 and use credit.

If you'd rather have cold, hard facts rather than opinions, take a look at this: http://www.examiner.com/video-game-...for-the-official-strategy-guide-of-dark-souls

Based on that article, this FuturePress guide will have everything you need. :D

EDIT: Also, I love the guide description: "Going into Dark Souls unaided will get you killed. A lot. Even armed with the complete knowledge of the game that this guide will provide, you're still certain to die at least a few times. But when a gigantic demon takes you by surprise you'll at least have a chance to not lose everything. This is a true survival guide for a game that's almost impossible to survive."

\\:D/

Is the hardcover edition going to be in stock at Gamestop? Or do you have to preorder it with them? I'd rather use some of my GS credit than order somewhere else.

FuturePress is only releasing one edition for Dark Souls, and that's the hardcover one. Whatever store you order from, Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop, etc, it will be the hardcover one

ahhh, so its basically written towards the bottom (when held upright)? is there any difference bteween the NA and EU releases besides that that you know of?

Does anyone know how long it takes BD to cancel orders? I sent in a request a few days ago to cancel my old order (when the guide was still $24.xx) but they haven't canceled it yet.

I've cancelled a few orders and it only took a few hours each time. You may want to contact them again.

I'm not a big fan of Paypal, but I think you avoid the "currency exchange" fees if you use it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Holding out for Amazon to price match so I can use a GC.

(click that lower price button, peeps)

I can't decide between book depository and Amazon. Book Depository says 14 business days shipping to US (almost 3 weeks?). Is that what typically happens in reality??

Based on feedback, you'll be playing another game by the time it arrives.

I think the guide will ruin the experience. What was so great about demon souls you never knew what was around the corner. My best moment in demon souls for me was in the 2nd world underground where all the sudden I heard buzzing in the back ground and I turned around and saw all these gaint fire beetles coming after me.

Well for me at least I don't plan to use it to look ahead. Maybe use it to find certain items or make sure I don't miss anything good. Plus I'd rather look at the guide then have to check a forum if I get stuck.

Cancelled my Amazon guide preorder, delivery date got bumped up to October 29th.

That long of a wait, might as well get it for $17.xx and give BD a shot.

Were you ordering from Amazon UK or something? I have a pre-order for the guide on Amazon US and the guide comes out on the 4th of October. My pre-order is still showing a delivery date of the 6th of October with 2-Day shipping.

What the heck are you talking about??

Amazon US, and it looks like it was the filler item I added to get FSS caused the problem.

Redid the order with something else and the delivery date was much sooner.

I preordered the guide at game-stop yesterday when I went to pay off the rest of my collectors edition, I should be able to pick them both up on the 4th as far as I am aware. I guess noone really preorders the guides so your local shop might have some available.

A few weeks ago I went in to GS and asked them if they would be getting the guide in-store. The GS employee said "yes", but after looking it up on the computer he said it wouldn't be in-store until Oct 15th.

YMMV, but just a warning.

I just noticed this from the Book Depository version of the guide.

It's Publisher's county is Hamburg/Ge. Does that means that it's gonna be in German? Or is that just where Futurepress is located?
I might wanna cancel that order, unless we find out.

It doesn't say what language it's in. I assumed English because of the cover, but I think we should be 100% sure.

The Amazon English copy says the guide comes out on the 4th, but the Book Depository version says the 7th, though that's most likely since it's a UK site.

Set them an email, I'm sure I'm worrying over nothing, but I want to be sure. I'm sure it wold be a pain for it to turn out not to be in English, and having to mail it all the way back.

I'm sure it'll end up fine, and I'll feel dumb, just never ordered a book for an overseas store before.

Well it is where Future Press is located according to their facebook page, but let us know what comes up I guess

Ended up just cancelling my order.
I had preordered awhile back when it was 24.99 from BD.
Noticed yesterday the price was 18.99, they couldn't give me that price so I just cancelled it. Was going to order the cheaper price but it's not in stock anymore.

I'm just going to use the digital Strategy guide in the CE

I plan to use the guide after I have completed the game myself to get all the trophies and get every nook and cranny.

I couldn't imagine getting Demons Souls platnium without a guide of some sort.

So my GS store isn't getting any guide books and the other GS stores in the area don't have any extras.

Does anyone know if other stores like Best Buy, Target, Walmart will have them? I tried calling but they had no idea what I was talking about.

Would rather pick it up tomorrow morning than have to wait and pay extra for Amazon to 1 or 2 day ship.

I read that people who ordered at Newegg had their orders canceled because Newegg is only getting the regular version. Sucks for them...

Now start the pitchfork grabbing.
Oh what, it's out of stock now!? Welp, placing my order somewhere then. What if it becomes another Bayonetta?!
OMG :hot::hot::hot:

Bayonetta is my most prized book. Sad...i know.

Looks like I may have the book before the game, since Newegg fucked up the CE preorders. /bitching

Anyway, the guide is still available for preorder at Amazon.

That dash is pretty important: I only noticed recently that the CE comes with a "mini-strategy guide", whereas a "mini strategy guide" (literally a small strategy guide) would have been like the guide that came with the Demon's Souls CE.

That ain't sad man, that book is like what, a couple hundred now? Most books don't go over a hundred unless it's like some damn textbook!

Good thing I kept my BD preorder.

Traded something for a $12 Walmart gift and was going to cancel my order and pick the guide up tomorrow.

Eh, waited too long to order from BD, so went with amazon. It was even in my gold-box (for a whole 5% off!), but I decided to order it from my GF's account because she still has her student Prime 2 day shipping. I am also wondering if this will pull a "bayonetta".

from their facebook page

"About the availability of our Dark Souls guide, the entire stock has been shipped out to retailers in the US. We can't tell how long the process takes to make products available to customers, but it shouldn't take longer than a couple of days. Thanks all for your patience and support!"
That always happens with guides but this one seems different

It says Out of Print--Limited Availability

Never seen that one before
Talked to a amazon REP and they told me

"I am really sorry for the inconvenience. Right now information has not updated yet about this item. we have already forward this issue to our marketing department and they will work on it. I am sure they will make it correct as soon as possible."

they gave me 5.00 credit, but damn first the dark souls CE thing then this..Damn,I haven't even put the game in and it's already giving me problems :p.

there are 2 listings on the Amazon page :
1. Released 10/4 = Out of Print--Limited Availability
2. Releases 10/7 = Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available

both have different ISBNs and slightly different page counts

Oh shit possible Bayonetta status. I don't recall them doing 2nd print runs of any collectors editions in the past.

For those new to FuturePress they make the best damn guides out there in both content and design.
