Dark Souls (Project Dark) - October 4, 2011

Had to do my first grind after getting cursed. Wasn't fun having to get to 6000 souls when you have not finished the Depths yet. Decided the 100xp knights in the upper burg were the best. I only have myself to blame though, as I got impatient waiting for one of those bug-eyed things and it cursed me.

Is it just me or does the game seem way too empty for just having launched. I'm about 13 hours in and rarely encounter such things as bloodstains, glimpses of other players in their own world, highly rated messages (so far the highest rated message I've encountered is a 6), and summonings. Hell, I haven't even been invaded so far, and finding someone to summon or get summoned by seems to take forever.

It's a bit of a disappointment as the online aspects of Demon's Souls is what really sucked me into that game. I can remember seeing messages, players in their own world, bloodstains and summoning signs all over the place, especially in the early life of the game.

I really hope this is more of a network thing than how the game is.

I see player ghosts and messages all over the place. Bloodstains are maybe a little more rare, but I never check those anyway generally, as I find those pretty useless. Can't comment on summoning/invading since I am hollow 99% of the time, but I suspect that will increase over the next few weeks as more people get the items needed for that and move into more PvP vs just playing against the game world.

There is a major complaint among the community about the new 'P2P coop/invading' system. If you look at Namco's support center, it states..
Also, please note that there are several different servers/lobbies that are being used for Dark Souls, so you may not be able to summon a specific friend into your game even if you adhere to the steps above. We can only recommend that you follow the steps above for the best chance at being able to join a specific friends' game.

Also, the match making system for invading is broken too from what I've read/experienced. Invading low levels despite the "10% SL rule," or not being able to invade at all despite seeing ghosts in your area.

Okay so after I beat queragg there was this hidden path between Demon Ruins & Queragg's lair I attacked the wall to reveal the path and there was a bonfire and some while spider woman, I killed her and got a fire keepers souls but the bonfire went out. Was I suppose to keep her alive? Theres a huge door at the end but I can't interact with it. Does that huge stone door even open? Is there anyway I can re ignite that bonfire?
She was the Chaos covenant keeper. You need a ring to join supposedly, but I think I was able to join anyway (at least, if I had the ring it wasn't equipped). After that you can kill her for the soul, but she won't be back until your next game.

That farming video is funny because I actually never saw one until today and both my brother and I figured it out on our own. They're the only enemies in the game that give 2k souls without being a mini-boss or higher that I've found. That in combination with the pathing exploit and nearby bonfire makes it an incredible farming spot. I wouldn't be even close to SL100 right now if not for this. All the PvPers have been doing it that I can tell because I'm still finding people invade me through covenants at this level. However, I did just get a new toy that slices through shields without stagger, so I can't wait to try it out later.

So I killed her already. Damn.

And about that huge stone wall at that area? Does it open?

And I have no clue how covenants work yet, can you break it down for me?

Let me pick your brain!!!!

Covenants are for PvP.
Anor Londo is driving me crazy now. Every single enemy in it is gigantic and super deadly, it seems.
Hohoho, you're in for some rage on the rooftops. ;)

Its a shortcut to Lost Izalith.

Thanks for the video.

So is it my imagination, or is the message recommendation system backwards? +X does nothing and -X adds +1 to the rating, which seems like the opposite of what it should be.

If it is any consolation you can open up some nice shortcuts.

Yeah, I opened up the main door leading to the
double boss
, but somehow I missed the blacksmith and the bow in my first pass through, so now I'm looking for it.

Just started htis game. Must've been a while since Demon's Souls, I'm not being careful at all and I'm dying a fuckload. Still having a ton of fun exploring.

For the
boar miniboss, I didn't have to fight him, I lured him to the fire and he burned himself...awesome

I just thought of something regarding the infinite item glitch. You could use it on the 'humanity' items and stock up like 90 humanity, so you've got a ton extra.

From main door go up left stair case and follow it around then you will see stairs going down. The blacksmith is there. Also while you are there go out onto the terrace to open up another shortcut that is to the left of the main door.
Getting the plat for this game is going to be near impossible without trading rare weapons with a friend. I'm getting close to the end of the game now and I still don't have the Black Knight Greatsword and Priscilla for some stupid reason wouldn't allow me to chop off her tail (probably should have killed myself), so only way to get that one is play through the game again.
Strange, I just got that Black Knight Greatsword last night :/

Ok, so the guy who you enter a covenant with and you join the White way. He asked me for $1600 souls, and I didn't have that much, so I said "No." Now he won't ask me for money again; what do I have to do?
Is there a way to get that sword from sif?
Spare his life.

He only asks once.
Spare his life.

Someone told me that if I spare his life to get the sword I would have to be at a certain level in my covenant.

So you get a lightning spear in Sen's Fortress which makes getting the trophy for fully upgrading a lightning weapon slightly easier. Are there any other such weapons (for divine, magic, fire, etc)?

Going after the gaping dragon tonight, after having to fix being cursed again. Stupid greed. :). At least cursing doesn't stack. Have to see who around level 24 can assist me.

BTW can you actually kill the red dragon on the bridge? Does it take a shitload of arrows? I got the Drake Sword by doing a lot of damage, maybe if I went further, would it get rid of him?

Fire surge is dangerous. It caused my PS3 to completely lock up.

You can, apparently, but he regenerates as long as he's sitting on the gate, so you have to be doing enough damage to him to counteract that.

Curse does stack.
Just got to Anor Londo and feel like the game is almost done lol.
Depending on how much optional stuff you have done you are likely 25-33% done with the game.

Where am I missing the door to Blightown? Killed the GD, got the key....looking for the door. Thought it would be down there with the dragon, but nothing I go to asks me to open it.

Strongest Weapon - Any
Crystal Weapon - Crystal Halberd
Lightning Weapon - Lightning Spear
Raw Weapon -
Magic Weapon -
Enchanted Weapon -
Blessed Weapon -
Dark Weapon - Occult Club
Flame Weapon -
Chaos Weapon -

Those are the ones I can think of right off hand. I will look into it some more.

It's near the Gaping Dragon boss area in a hallway that had a merchant in it. If you have the Master Key you can get to Blighttown from Firelink - New Londo - Valley of Drakes - Blighttown. If you go in via the Master Key method then you are a few minutes away from the boss.

Yes, you can kill it. However, the damage done with your arrows at your current level will not outclass the amount of healing it does when it is perched.

Man just ate some bullshit. First boss in Sen's Fortress
Iron Golem: Made my way to him got him to about half hp, then he bent over to do his grab move and is sent me through the floor falling forever till I hit the invisible bottom. That is some fucking bullshit. Its one thing to get owned by a boss, its another to get owned by a glitch. Not looking forward to making my way through those swinging blades again -_-.

You mean the cliff lead to an area full of trolls?

I've been trying to hold off on using the guide but I decided to look at it. Sadly it looks like I condemned a Pyromancy merchant without even knowing it. I could've sworn I saw another NPC that can boost my Pyromancy skill, but according to the guide, the only other Pyromancer requires you to have +10 before they appear.

There's a key that opens a shortcut that goes from the very first swinging blade part all the way to the top, very close to the boss room.

I meant to ask this earlier, but kept forgetting about it.

There's a ring of sacrifice in Firelink on the bridge thing leading to the first area Undead Burg. Now I see a person sitting over there, any idea who it is? And how I get over there? I assume I jump from under the area where the firebomb throwing zombie is. I tried that once, didn't make it, and never bothered again.

It's a merchant that sells
armors of some of the bosses you defeat.

And to get there, just jump where the shielded soldier guy is (beneath the firebomb thrower).

Hello everyone! Reading of everyone's delightful (and sometimes aggravating) experiences with Dark Souls bring a grin to my face, since I too am a fellow lover of Demon Souls as well as Dark Souls ^_^

@crystalklear64 - Sorry to hear a glitch was the reason of your demise. opefully it doesn't happen again :(

@ChibiJosh - It is possible to easily do a running jump from where the shielded soldier is below the bridge. I would recommend a running start rather than standing and attempting from the edge. ^^;

As for my own personal adventures: I've just gotten close (or I'm at?) the Butterfly boss in the Forest. I saw it when I got to the top of a tower, but didn't enter the mist. Went below, snagged an accessory, then I actually left. Earlier (and yesterday) I took the time to just help lots of people out at Capra Demon by offering my Soul Sign I figured it'd be nice to help people beat it, while racking up a few souls and some free Humanities :D I did a little soul farming earlier (only SL38 now), but I sorta want to do more seeing as there are a bunch of stats I want to raise before going further. Also, I have 6 Humanity collected and for the longest I've just been holding them for increased drop rate...which I think has been nice to me. But a friend of mine told me that Bonfires that you Kindle carry over to New Game+. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If so, then I'll do it now and farm some more Humanities up and get the Kindling over with hehe.

Thanks in advance, and never give up my fellow conquerors!

So I finally joined my first covenant, the Forest Hunter. So far I've invaded 6 different people tonight and they all had the same lightning spear! So is that what people like to use after the Drake Sword? During any co-op, I've rarely seen anyone use any other weapons than those two.

Yeah, I made that jump on my first time through there--what events take place before a guy is sitting there? I'll have to keep an eye on that spot.

I'm moving across the country this Wednesday, so I wasn't able to play tonight, and won't be able to play at least until next week at the earliest

Pretty much. The area you get it in was around the same time that I decided that the drake sword was starting to suck. Since I'm a mage, the spear didn't have too high requirements for me.

beat sen's fortress and made it to anor lando or whatever its called. some more bullshit but at least its working as intended this time
sucked into a painting that you don't leave when you die -_-. got the red soapstone but not sure where to go next. those harpies have so much life. game is getting pretty tedious now.

So I needed the help from some phantoms to beat the double boss on Anor Lando.

Is it me or everybody I summon seems to be like 10x stronger/better then me lol.

I got someone tonight that was doing almost 1k damage with what seemed like the Crystal Halberd or something. Had some serious magic too, just ran me through the whole thing in record time. 1 shoting 99% of the things we ran across. This level seems really big and I don't know how long it would have taken me to get through it normally.

Thanks. I forgot about the fog/door near the merchant. Every other fog area thus far had the door inside of it. Guess that happens when you are tired & playing. That also explains the stupid death of the night.

Speaking of that, maybe I'll hookup my video capture card and post some of those up on YouTube. I'll have my own "Stupid Death of the Night" video. An idea anyway....I'm probably too lazy to do it though. :)

I do have the master key. What about the trollls / whatever they are in the Valley? Just run by them or should I be able to deal with them at this point?

Thanks!
