Getting to Nito is harder than actually fighting Nito. Glorious True Greatsword of Artorias makes skeletons dead dead.
That's what I'm trying to use now. I need to grind to get my strength high enough to wield it though. Four more fricking levels to go :(

I used a Divine Claymore on the skeletons with Nito and it kept them down, so a divine weapon should work. Also, as everyone else said, stay near the area where you land so that the giant skellies don't join in.

If you're too far away he'll use the sword spell (where red swords come out of the ground, I forget the name), so he might do that just once or so until he gets closer. Then just try to stay beside him and whack away, but be ready to run away when he pulls back to do that big AoE attack where the black stuff rushes out across the floor.
That's nice that you got some help from a former enemy. Cool stuff.
Totally. I think most people are nice, just have to send a friendly message and accept that some people are griefers.
Yeah NG+ really the noticeable changes are the low level weak guys, like the zombies and the crystal soldiers. They do waaaay more damage than before. Also boss HP is noticably higher later in the game. Four Kings, I'm looking at you motherfuckers.
Yeah they do more damage. And they might have twice as much HP, but my weapons do 4 times the damage they did at the early stages of the game so I'm one-shotting lots of enemies that took several hits at that point in NG. Plus my spells and other gear are so much better, it's just not difficult.

Taurus demon came withint about 5% of being one-shotted by the plunging attack with +5 Lightning Bastard sword (and quick Great Combustion upon landing finished him before he could even react). Gargoyles took a few hits but were still a joke. I'm in Anor Londo now, so we'll see if the enemies start catching up to my weapons soon.
I used the Eagle Shield +10, Lightning Spear +3 (or so), pick whatever rings you want. Get close to him and circle around the back of him, when he tries to hit you, go around behind him and hit him. When he flies up in the air, back away and heal if necessary.

If you do it right, you'll almost never get hit.
I will give that a shot. He kept two shotting me last night, was really annoying. He kept doing his stupid shockwave move no mater where I was and hitting me.

Once you land, run to the middle of all the pillars. I found that if you do that he usually waits a couple seconds to do his first shockwave. That way you can chug estus to get back to full health.

THen you're gonna want to run behind him, stay a tails length behind him. Wait until the shockwave dissipates then run up and get a few hits in. Repeat.

Make sure you watch out for his butt stomp where he jumps up in the air and rotates to face you. There is a shock wave from that if you're really close to him. But the lag for that move is huge when he lands, so get a few hits in there too.

Keep in mind his shockwave extends about 3 to 5 feet behind his butt when it lands so you need to be a good distance back even when behind him.

As for strategies try one of these 3:

OK, I had an easier time this time. I had to gain 8 levels just to wield the Greatsword of Artorias. I bumped it up to +5. Then I went to the baby skeleton pool and equipped the Golden Serpent ring and also the Ring of the Evil Eye and farmed humanity. Spent some time there and farmed 30 humanity for the Chaos Servant covenant.

So that Greatsword of Artorias can take those bastards down in one hit, and they stayed down. After that, Nito wasn't that bad; I had my Estus flask upgraded to +3 and kindled the bonfire to 20. I had to heal quite a bit, but I killed Nito on the first try.

Anyway, thanks guys, I was getting very frustrated with this one. :applause:

Out of all the games I've played this year, this one has been at the very top of my list. I can only hope they continue making this type of game.

I was looking at vgchartz and it hasn't hit over a million overall yet. Which is very sad. Anybody know if there is any talk of another souls title?

As a gamer, I can't ask for more than what these "souls" game do.

I almost had him a few times last night. At one point he was ~2 hits from death, and then my two year old came up and held a book in front of face 'dada puppy, dada puppy'. Sometimes I wish this game had a pause button >

I just got invaded for the first time while exploring the Painted world. I usually never unhollow, but after getting raped by those crow demons a couple times on the stairs I thought I'd try summoning some help(which never came). While exploring the clifftop beyond the phalanx column a black phantom entered my world. I thought he was wielding some huge hammer, but once he got closer I realized it was some bizarre hat. He began assaulting me with powerful pyromancy that left lava flows all over the snow, but I sidestepped them (boy, they have terrible tracking) and ran him through a couple times with the lightning spear. He managed to catch me once with some fire column spell, but after using a flask behind a stonewall I rolled behind him and backstabbed him as he charged another lava fireball.
He dropped a notched whip and like 30,000 souls.
It was pretty fun, though I think I'll dehollow soon so I won't get invaded while trying to make progress...

Yep, Xanthous King, Jeremiah. You should find his armor in the boss chamber I think it is.

I found a piece of armor which blends pretty well with the antiquated skirt, the Giant's Armor chest piece. Then it just looks like the skirt is the continuation of a robe with a metal vest on top. Pump it up to +5 with twinkling titanite and it offers triple digit physical defenses, 50+ elemental defenses, and decent resistances at 16.4 weight.

Considering how far I've come I still can't believe the dragon back at the undead parish is kicking my ass. Fire defense ring, flash sweat, dragon shield, good elemental defense armor and I still can't come close to killing him. Thought maybe now with the two gravelord sword miracles and the huge surface area he covers I could sewer him to death but I used all 4 casts and he was barely scratched and then insta-killed me with his vertical inferno flame. Almost seems silly to go to all this effort for 10K souls.

Damn Patches pissed me off last night. For some reason Rhea and her two guards never showed up to Firelink in my NG+ (maybe because I didn't join Way of White and thus didn't advance Petrus's dialogue?). I went into the Catacombs after Anor Londo and Patches was near the second bonfire, by the switch to flip the spike bridge. He wasn't there in NG, only in the Tomb of the Giants.

Anyhow, he flipped the bridge for me when I got down to that level and then I talked to him. Just after I crossed it, he flipped it back to spiky! I kind of expected it so I had sprinted across; thankfully I didn't die. I go ahead and beat Pinwheel and grab the Eyes of Death from the Tomb, so now I have enough to level up Gravelord and finish my miracles trophy. And Patches is now in the Tomb, as usual.

I make my way out of the Tomb and back up into the Catacombs, and the damn bridge is still flipped, with me on the other side of it. fucker. So I have to go through the secret passage and all the way back up and around and then back down to get to Nito and finish the covenant. What a pain in the ass.

I just went ahead and farmed eyes of death from the frogs in the Depths so I could finish all the covenants on my first playthrough (other than the sunlight spear one) and be able to pick whatever covenant I want to play in NG+ and beyond. Took about 25-30 minutes to get 4 starting through the Depths bonfire, down the shortcut and over to the pack of 9 frogs with no humanity and the gold covetous ring.

I figured I'd just grab the 6 in the chests each playthrough and not have to farm. Which worked great. It was just Patches's general dickhead behavior that pissed me off.

I just need to beat 4 Kings and join the Darkwraiths to get my last covenant trophy. Then I'll probably just rejoin Sunbros, as it seems better for co-op.

Patch 1.05 is out in NA!

Of course it comes out right after I finish farming all the rare stuff I need for platinum. I figured it wouldn't be coming out for a long time so I might as well not wait.

Oh, well, I'm still happy if it means more co-op!

I'm reading that this patch includes being able to buy Twinkling Titanite from the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo, is this true?

And now we get to try some new armor combinations, since Antiquated Skirt and Gold-Hemmed set got nerfed. I had upgraded my Antiquated skirt to +5. But I'm not too disappointed because, to be honest, it just looked totally dumb, but I couldn't not wear it when its stats were just sooooo good. So now I'm free to pick something cool looking.

Will have to finish using the snuggly glitch to stock up on dragon scales / demon titanite before downloading the patch.

Xanthos leg, crimson set leg, witch leg, or perhaps one of the normal +10 legs would be a decent alternative. It would figure that the day after I find something that matches decently with the skirt and pump it to +5 with twinkling titanite that they finally decide to release the patch. Will have to pick a new shield now and pick a new helmet now as I have been using gold-hemmed hood. Will probably switch back to black leather +6 depending on how much equip burden I gained due to the patch. This will sure throw the wiki into chaos as most every weapon now has the wrong information.

Ok, Figured it out, next best thing to Antiquated skirt in that weight range is the blood-soaked skirt (dingy set) when pumped to +10 (but probably will stop at +6 or +9) it is 2.5 weight and 46 46 57.5 46 / 65.3 38.7 50.8 / 40.6 30.8 40.6. Next best item that you can pump with twinkling is the crimson leg.

I'm going to suggest the dark set armor that you get from the Darkwraith Covenant. It can be upgraded with twinkling, I think, and it's pretty powerful for a light-mid weight set.

Yeah, as the others said, that's an NPC. Once you beat the boss make sure to pick up his armor on the corpse just before leaving the Painted World. I've been using the gauntlets from that set ever since - it is actually better than the gold-hemmed one. And the "hat" (was it a big mummy-looking thing?) is great for the Great Hollow because it provides awesome curse resistance.

How does it help with co-op? I might hold off on the patch for just a day or so. I haven't played in a few days and need to finish off farming for souvenir of reprisals. I was going to wait till I got Rhea since I already have one Pendant and would get a second from her - then I could use the Sparkly trick to get 2 from that but I won't want to wait that long for the patch. So I'll just farm till I have 9, then do my one trade for that.

Since I've been pumping up Endurance quite a bit, I've been able to run with the following: Havel's Helm, Gold-Hemmed shirt, Xanthous Gloves + 4, Antiquated Skirt + 4. All while maintaining < 25% equip burden with Havel's ring on of course. I see people talking about taking armor to +10? I didn't think that was possible!? I thought +5 was the max and since +4 -> +5 was kind of expensive (like 4 twinkling) I held off on that as well. Does someone have the stats for how much they nerfed these things, though? I don't really see why they felt the need to do that - the game is fucking hard enough as it is.
I'm going to suggest the dark set armor that you get from the Darkwraith Covenant. It can be upgraded with twinkling, I think, and it's pretty powerful for a light-mid weight set.
I got this, but it seemed like crap compared to my set above. Maybe it will be better with the nerfing. But it is also much heavier. Maybe I can use part of it now and keep upgrading Endurance for the rest.

So is everything borked? Has it been confirmed that Snuggly won't give you perpetual stuff?
I can't figure out why the hell they messed with the Gold Hemmed set. You can't upgrade the thing, so why the hell would they reduce its effectiveness? It's not even the best armor for every occasion...

I killed the Hellkite Dragon! I stood under the bridge where you're able to snipe him with arrows. I used my bow to aim, then I switched to magic and shot him with 4 or 5 Great Heavy Soul Arrows. I used regular Soul Arrows until I got a hit on him; it takes a little trial and error to line up the shot to hit him with magic. He jumps down and as soon as he jumps back up to his perch, I shot another one; I repeated until he died. The Great Heavy Soul arrow did over 250 damage to him per shot. It was pretty awesome.

My intelligence is at 26, and I used the Bellowing Dragon ring. Too bad you only get 10K souls...

So far after patch 1.05, I haven't noticed anything bad. My enchanted long bow does a shitload more damage. I can one hit kill all zombie guys now. I can almost kill the Baulder knights with one head shot. Also, I noticed that the framerate doesn't drop when I'm at Firelink Shrine anymore. I'd get lots of slow down when I'd look around at the crow, but now post-patch, it's smooth like the rest of the game.

Did the patch - Gold-hemmed and antiquated skirt are definitely nerfed. I'll post the full numbers tomorrow.

Even my lightning spear went down a bit. I thought they were going to add scaling to elemental weapons. It still does not scale...

No, they downgraded elemental weapons a little and improved the stat scaling of weapons which scale with stats like divine, enchanted, magic, normal titanite weapons, etc. so that they have more similar performance.

Drop rates improved quite a bit, so farming the Souvenirs in 1.05 should be much easier. I also noticed enemies give way more souls.

Adding scaling for elemental weapons would have been terrible. The problem is that they were WAY over-powered, so there was almost no reason to use anything else. Now they were nerfed very slightly, but other (upgraded) weapons should scale better, making them viable.

I've got my endurance almost "maxed" (at 39 now), and combined with the added equip weight the patch gives (I think an extra 10?) I pretty much just go with heavy torso armor all the time now. If I want to stay under 25% I'll wear a light helmet and leggings, otherwise I'll wear Stone helmet and Stone leggings for now. Anyway, I've settled on Giant armor +5. It weighs 16.5 but outclasses everything in physical defense and almost everything in elemental defenses. It rocks!
So is everything borked?
Think you mean nerfed? Borked is something the US Senate does to people they think are too crazy to be judges.

And I think you need to upgrade Dark Armor for it to be really competetive. Then again my max load limit was like, 150.

D'oh - too bad I finished that right before I applied the patch. Much to my surprise, though, I got a drop in the very first crow demon I killed when I fired up the game last night (and again, this was pre-patch). Then it only took about 15 minutes to get the second. Then I traded my pendant for the 10th, used sparkly to get some Demon and Twinkling Titanite (since I had so many of the trade items needed). Then I applied the patch.

Here are the stat changes for Gold-Hemmed Black Cloak:

Defense
Phys 44.0 -> 31.0
Strike 47.1 -> 33.2
Slash 44.0 -> 31.8
Thrust 44.0 -> 31.0
MagDef 54.0 -> 38.0
FireDef 68.0 -> 58.0
LtngDef 36.0 -> 21.0

Poise (0.0), Bleed Resist (40.0), Poison Resist (94.0), and Curse Resist (0.0) all stayed the same.

As a control, I verified that Xanthous Gloves and Havel's Helm remained the same.

Will follow up with Antiquated Skirt nerfing later...

Once again I will ask how you get armor beyond +5. I've been back to every blacksmith except Vamos and none will make anything go beyond +5 (and I can go up to +5 myself at a bonfire anyway). Am I missing an ember for that? I can do weapons to +10 though.

I'm getting this on black friday, can't wait for this adventure, sadly I never beat demon's soul as I stopped playing it when the psn was out and never played again. When they finally revived the online, it was to late as the next day, they stole my ps3 and all my games. FML.

Some armor pieces are upgraded like weapons with titanite shards, large shards, chunks, and then a slab for +15. Armor that gets upgraded with twinkling titanite only goes to +5.

I meant it as the first version... Never heard of the second usage :lol:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bork

I actually like Ornstein's Armor. The problem is the weight of any armor but the Gold Hemmed set is too heavy for me. It seems to me that the armor is much heavier, or your equipment load is much lighter, in this game compared to Demon's Souls. Although, I think I mainly used the Black Leather set in the other game b/c I went with the wiki for that Assassin's build.

You should go back and beat it. In some ways it's a better game than this one. The story for me was much more compelling for one. And secondly, they just extended the servers again, so you should take advantage of it.

It's just a fraking shame that since this is also out on 360, and with the whole publisher/IP issue, that they couldn't throw in a bonus for a completed Demon's Souls save, or allow you to import your character or something.

so, Siegmeyer of Catarina. Can he be killed by mobs? I went to talk to him the 2nd time to progress the story line and he isn't there. Thoughts?

Twinkling titanite armor items can only go to +5 but regular armor (like the starting armors for the various classes) upgraded by standard titanite can go to +10. 1-3 is shard, 3-6 is large shard, 7-9 is chunk, and 10 is a slab. I can't recall, maybe it takes a large ember to upgrade armor beyond +5?

They nerfed the hell out of my hollow soldier shield so I dumped it for it for the silver knight shield, the extra bonus +6.0 to equip burden let me do that. I noticed they tweaked Solitaire's shield slightly, now it has slightly more lightening res than the hollow soldier shield.

Are you talking about in Sen's Fortress next to the staircase? If so, once you rotate the boulder machine at the top of the stairs he moves on to the next location even if you did not talk to him. As long as you talked to him before you opened the gates he should be waiting for you in interior Anor Londo at the 3rd location.

Antiquated Skirt +4 nerfing:

Here are the stat changes for Antiquated Skirt +4:

Defense
Phys 55.6 -> 20.9
Strike 55.6 -> 20.9
Slash 55.6 -> 20.9
Thrust 55.6 -> 20.9
MagDef 79.2 -> 48.6
FireDef 23.6 -> 23.6
LtngDef 76.5 -> 29.2

Poise (stayed 0.0), Bleed Resist (47.2 -> 23.6), Poison Resist (47.2 -> 23.6), and Curse Resist (92.0 -> 61.4)...

I mean, knock down the defense, sure, but did they really have to mess with the resistances? That way it provided a physically weak but nicely resistant set that you would have to use strategically. Now it is just garbage (though still with OK curse resistance). And I'm thinking I may have just forgot to jot down the nerfing of the resistances on the gold-hemmed black cloak - I'll check to see if they are different later tonight when I play.

OK, so all the armors I want to have anything to do with a twinkling upgraded. But I thought I saw someone talking about one of those (Dark Armor) getting upgraded to 10. It will only go to 5. I need to work on my outfit some more. I did not notice any increase in equip burden. Does it not change with Havel's Ring, or did they nerf that to compensate? As of last night I had Havel's Helm, Dark Armor (chest) + 5, Xanthous Gloves + 4, and I forget what leggings - may have gone with Xanthous also. I would definitely recommend fighting that NPC in the Painted World, as the armor you get from that is probably the best light armor now that gold-hemmed and antiquated stuff has been trashed.

So you don't like the Eagle Shield? That thing is like a force field for physical attacks. I use that for running around, and if I need a special resistance shield, I'll switch to something else (i.e., for fire, lightning or magic resistance).

So I finally beat Queelag last night. I have been doing the areas in the order of the Future Press guide. So looks like the Great Hollow and Ash Lake are next.

#1
But I am wondering if I should continue to do the levels in order of the guide. It would be nice to get Havel's Ring sooner than later, as according to the guide, I won't have it for much of the game. The Warp ring is the same thing, I won't get it until game is almost done.

#2
I am still rocking the stock Drake, not upgraded. I have an Uchi that I have at +3 (or +4, can't remember), but it is still 1/2 as powerful as the The Drake. I have seen comments saying that you should have a better sword than the Drake before fighting Queelag. According to the guide, I don't think I have missed much Titanite. I can't use my chunks, or big pieces till +5. Is there a way/place to farm the small pieces of titanite?
edit: looks like I can just buy from BlackSmith Andrej

Yeah, I was using Hollow Soldier +14 and I switched over to Eagle (+5 right now, since I don't have the large Ember in NG+). I looked at Silver Knight but I think I like the Eagle better. Good site to compare stats: http://darksouls.lljk.net/1.04/weapons

Don't tie yourself to the guide - you'll have more fun if you use it a little less. I tended to play through the areas however I wanted, just exploring. Then I'd look in the guide after I beat the boss to see if I missed anything important (to go back for it).

Drake sword is fine for Quelaag and Blighttown. You'll want something better in or after Sen's Fortress.

Well that is pretty much how I am using it; just to find goodies after doing an area, or to glance at a map. The guide itself is pretty light on details anyways, which is why I like it more than a walk through.

Well, Quelaag, Blighttown are done now, so maybe I'll farm a bit to get my Uchi up there.

What's the word on Magic scaling weapons, was that fixed in 1.05? Or is lightning still the way to to go. Magic is my primary, but I am pretty well rounded (roughly mag=27, str=22, dex=16, end=16, vit=18), and will likely continue to upgrade in this pattern.

Nah, don't like the low fire res. Fully upgraded the silver knight shield is 76 which is good enough for now and I don't have to use any titanite chunks.

Went back to do some farming in the forest after the patch, that magician is a lot more accurate now, he can hit me dead on quite frequently unless I roll or vary my speed while sprinting.

I see what people mean about tomb of the giants being annoying, those skeleton dogs do ridiculous damage. Though it was kind of funny, went through the fog gate near patches. Soon a skeleton starts shooting arrows at me from the dark ahead. Then what I think is an arrow is coming toward me, but it is a black knight, he lunges at me, misses, falls to his death and his drops pop up as picked up on the screen.

I didn't get that lucky. The black knight killed me (I was at a very low level at the time), and must have fallen off the cliff as I died. I went back and there was no drop.

I still can't figure out how to get that treasure over on the other side of the gap (right were you see the light from the Ash Lake area). I know it's the Silver Serpent Ring, and I really want it, but I hate those MFing skeleton dogs.
