Darth Vader and Yoda are playable characters in Soul Calibur 4. This is not a joke.
Shouldn't they be making a Star Wars game using the SC engine if they have the license? Talk about printing money...
Good call.

Split up = will wait for price drop. I'm not a massive SW fan, but being able to do a Vader vs Yoda sounds amusing enough to have possibly pushed me to pick this up day one. Without that, I'm waiting for a price drop - and if they're offered as DLC, well I'll get the complete game for less than $60 and I'll still win.

Lookes like I'll get the PS3 version like I originally planned. I still think this is more fucked up than link/spawn/heihachi... at least their appearances made more sense due to some characters already being in the same universe (heihachi) while others had extended side stories. Star Wars has no logical side story possibilities.

also, Vader's already been on the fighting block, so yoda's got some picking up to do:

It sounds like the only one who enjoys, and still occasionally plays, SW: MOTK... I'm surprised. My friends and I LOVED that game. Got a lot of mileage out of it. Infact, it's one of the reasons I got a PSX.

I don't think this changes my opinion on SC4. I was on the fence, and this didn't sway me either way.
EDIT: Yeah I'm sure Vadar will eventaully appear on the 360 and Yoda will eventually appear on the PS3 as DLC. Why include both in both versions when you can release one as $5 DLC?

This may very well happen, but only after Namco has determined that the 'double-dippers' sales have tapered off to next-to-nil. That might be a month, it might be six. Either way, I'm not buying. And Jesus, kids, misspell "definitely" and "separate" as much as you like, but it's V-A-D-E-R. Or is that more 'cutesy' Internet 'alternate spelling'?
Hold up, I removed the other bullshit you wrote, but in your edit did you just try to correct peoples' spelling of Vader when you yourself misspelled it? Also, what was the point of the last part about definitely and separate?
SC3 probably did worse.
It did and it was because the broke the system that worked in the previous incarnations of the game. They added a useless create a character, but the game mechanics just sucked. The controls didn't play properly for timed combos, they dumbed down once powerful careful characters, gave boring moves, etc.
This is brilliant though. Hardcores have every right to be pissed, but namco wants to sell the game.

but iirc, SCII didn't do all that well, sales wise.
I'd say I'm a hardcore player/fan, but I'm not really that pissed as much as i was when they announced SC3 was Ps2 only and that they had screwed the game up. Right now I'm just pissed because of this bullshit where Yoda and vader aren't on both systems. I'm guessing whether I should purchase it now and earlier I was ready to get it on release day.
according to joystiq, yoda is 360 only, while Vader is PS3 only. Lucky PS3 owners
This is bullshit right here.:bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb:
http://www.namcobandaigames.com/news/press/press/270

Namco fucked this great news by splitting them up between the platforms.
How about worst marketing move of any company I have ever seen. Are they fucking out of their minds at Namco? They should pull this title back in for some more development and put the characters in both versions of the game, while say adding a different character exclusive for the consoles.
Where's Boba Fett?

Edit: Oh, yeah. Being digested - slowly - for a thousand years.
I hate to break it to you Brak, but Boba Fett is still alive.

Le sigh.

It was a fairly funny attempt at being a grammar nazi. He at least injected humor into it so try and see it for what it is and eek a chuckle out of it. All in all I thought it was a good post.

4 stars. Out of 5. To jollydwarf not you.

Yes, I'm sure I needed to point that out.

Heh:roll: You're right. As always. Another bullshit post. Thanks for pointing it out!

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Darth Vader and Yoda fought in a stupid tournament to claim the Soul Edge and Soul Calibur... apparently.

What?

I don't get what people are complaining about. You don't like the characters, then don't use them.

Definitely going with the PS3 version. Vader ftw!

Back in elementary school I we had 3 groups of words that we would get to spell for the spelling tests. I always got the group with the easiest words, since I sucked at spelling.

Sadly my spelling has not improved much since my elementary school days. ;)
Uh, wasn't their a 3-D Starwars fighting game for the PSX that royally sucked. This is a poor idea...
Why? The developers aren't the same and one of them doesn't suck horribly.

Fun Fact: The guy who named the Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi game was OPM's last Editor in Chief, Tom Byron, who worked at LucasArts when that game was in development.
My onyl guess why yoda is on 360 and vader on PS3 is due to their color...

PS3=Black?

360=Green?
It's too bad Vader isn't the 360's exclusive character (red lightsaber, RRoD).

They should of put both in all versions. With them announcing that, 1up shouldn't of put up all that mess about more characters popping up, because I don't see it after them announcing that.
Where's Boba Fett?
Seriously, for the Fett man, I'd stoop to buying a fargon console just to rock him.

I actually still have that game and play it on occasion. The moves are hilariously delayed and it's just fun when you're character is lying on the ground and seems to have forgotten how to get up.

I'll only be getting it if it's a hidden character that I can leave locked so I don't have to see them and no one can play as them. If I load up the character screen and there ANY Star Wars characters there for the get-go, I will not purchase this game. If you are a Star Wars fan and the addition of these characters are a selling point for you to buy SC4, then good for you. But I think it's lame and how the character is implemented (because I don't want them) will be a deciding factor on if I buy the game.

People bitched when they weren't able to use Link on PS2 or Xbox and nothing changed there either.

I think these are going to stay exclusive.
Lightsabers make Soul Calibur totally unrealistic.
 SC has always been about as realistic as Pokemon, Mario, or Madden. That is too say, as far away from reality as can be.

I gotta admit, I'm more than a little interested to see how they turn out. And what's so wrong with having (more than likely) secret characters in the game?

Or maybe the devs are just fucking with us.

But they DO have a cool trailer

Can't I just have Master Chief with a gravity hammer?

Eh... I'm not a fan of Star Wars, but at least Vader is cool. I'd rather have a Boba, Maul, or Chewbacca playable on the 360.
People bitched when they weren't able to use Link on PS2 or Xbox and nothing changed there either.

id say these have a better chance of coming out as DLC in the future. for one thing DLC is common place now, where it wasnt last generation (at least not for GC & PS2). also, unlike link, these characters arent owned by a rival company.

so 8 months after the game comes out i bet ill be a sucker and plop down 400 points to play vadar on the 360, as im sure many others will, and namco knows this.

I wonder what Vader/Yoda's verson of the Soul Edge/Calibur is going to look like.
...I'm trying really hard to keep my eyes from rolling out of my head on this one.

yeah I hope they so something cool with the light saber too, not just color changes
but I will be Pissed if it DLC that you have to pay for .....
The sad thing is... the game will probably sell a crapton more now that those characters are in it, because a bunch of Star Wars fanboys will buy it. Kinda like how the Gamecube version of SC2 outsold the other two versions because it had Link, thus causing all the Zelda fanatics to buy it, despite the XBox version arguably being superior, and more people owning a PS2.
I'll also enjoy beating the ever loving shit out of them in the game, hopefully enough so they put down the controller and pick up another game instead. :D
Guys I could hug most of you! Dallow with the "WTF?!" reaction and others thinking this was nonsense.
I first saw this as a post at HighDefDigest and thought it was a joke. Imagine my surprise when I clicked it and found out it was real. I thought "This is the gayest thing ever." and still do. Seriously this is so fucking pathetic and smacks of desperation to sell the game. I hope the Asian and Japanese versions have neither of these characters and if not I want an option to lock them from Namco. In fact I think I'll e-mail Namco in the next day or two asking them that specifically as we all should. I don't want to even LOOK at these characters in my select screen.
edit: Wow valor17, almost Deja Vu. Just read Jollydwarf's post at the end of page 5. This is why we all love you dude.

Geez, I'm surprised some people have such a negative reaction to this. I don't see the problem myself. I hope Yoda has some classic taunts "Comically large breasts you have, own you I will"

Surely the problem can't be one of realism, I mean has there ever been any realism in a Soul Calibur game. I see a lot of undead pirates, swords with eyes and woman with ZZZ boobs, but not a lot of realism.

Frankly I was pissed about Link. Not the fact he was in it but the fact he had a projectile. That shit should've stayed out to begin with.

The problem is not realism.

The problem is they dont belong at all.

Its like putting link into a hockey game to make it sell.
( shitty analogy I know)
Cameos work, just look at SSBB.
Eh...not that I care that much about this (I just think it's kind of stupid) I'm not agreeing with this comparison. Sonic and Snake are in a game filled with various other characters from other videogames. If this was like...a star trek fighting game and these 2 showed up it would make more sense.

Super Mario Bros Hockey?

Only if them Canucks start playing tendo, eh? ;)
People bitched when they weren't able to use Link on PS2 or Xbox and nothing changed there either.
Except that the difference there was that Nintendo owns the rights to Link, and they sure as hell weren't going to license his likeness to appear on PS2 or Xbox. Star Wars, however, has no such exclusivity to any one system, and thus, there is no intellectual property issue preventing both characters from appearing on both consoles, whereas there WAS a clear reason that Link would not be allowed on PS2 or Xbox.

Kind of sucks that they're split and that PS3 gets Vader.

Game still a must buy for me though, as it was before these characters.

Uh ... hrm. I have no real interest in using either character (why hone my "skillz" on a character who won't even be around in SC V?), but with no Vader v. Yoda action ... what's the point? Oh, right. Tons and tons of money for Namco. That's fine. It just won't be mine. The characters sure as shit LOOK nice, though.

Frankly, as somebody else tossed out, early hints about this made me think for sure the guest characters would either be the Pirates of the Caribbean crew, or the Prince/Dark Prince from Prince of Persia. *shrug*
Take it from a person who played all three (huge SC2 fan), the best version was indeed the GCN version. No slow down, as there was in the PS2 edition, and link actually fit and was fun to play Even in Xbox version, which is supposedly the "superior" version that I always here about from others, there was plenty of frame rate issues and clipping. That also goes without saying that Spawn being in it just sucked. GCN's controllers was also pretty good when it came to playing a fighting game, or at least Namco put in a lot of effort in optimizing for that controller.
As someone who also owned all three versions at one point ... you're absolutely correct.

You know who really needs to be a guest character? Ashley Riot.

I would buy out every single copy. THIS IS NOT A BLUFF, NAMCO.
You know who really needs to be a guest character? Ashley Riot.

They can't do that because they know no other character in all of video gaming is half as cool as Ashley Riot, except for Guybrush Threepwood, who is a mighty pirate yea verily.

Someone else posted this on Joystiq, so I won't take credit for it, but....

In other news, the Fonz was seen in Hawaii attempting another wacky stunt involving water skis.

So any other characters annouce yet? Like Lando Calrissian with a Colt 45
Malt Liquor action blaster!!! Mmm Mmm - the force is drunk with this one!!!

This makes no sense. Lucas and company refuses to let us forget about these characters. I love Star Wars, but they have absolutely no shame.
