[DEAD] Free Gears of War 2 Gold Lancer From Marketplace
I have 240 points and got the lancer and cod4 pictures fine.
Hmm ok might just be a weird problem with me.
I heard a rumor that even though it's free, if your account doesn't have enough to cover the charges of what it would have originally cost you will get the region error for some reason.

Just a rumor, and quite believable to me since I only have 300 MS Points at the moment. Anyone want to confirm this?
I have about 3500 points right now, and I was getting the region error when I tried to download. I don't know how much they originally cost, but that seems kind of high.

I also only have a balance of 300 points, but I got the Gold Lancer last night without any problems.
"Error: This offer is not valid in your region." That's what I get when I try the COD4 picture pack. Anyone else have that problem? The Gears Lancer worked fine though.
Same problem, some new pictures would be nice.
I thought Totemball was always free.
It is with purchase of the Vision Cam for sure, not sure about otherwise, but then again, after playing it for a couple of minutes, I felt like "free" was overpriced ya akhi ;)

I have ZERO in my account, and I downloaded the lancer this morning.
Can someone make a list of what is available?
OP posted this link to the old thread.

EDIT: BTW, I couldn't get any of the themes or game add-ons. Didn't try the gold membership stuff or the pictures. Going by the posts in this thread I don't think anyone's gotten the pics tho.

It strikes me as odd that I can't get some of the things listed. What region is this for? I'm in the US. Ohio, actually. I imagine I'd be able to get the CoD4 Picture pack and the others. I got the Lancer just fine! Which I think I forgot to say thanks for... er... sorry.

THANKS!!

totem ball has always been free but it requires the vision camera to play it but even then I wouldn't recommend getting a camera for this arcade game I think the game is about as bad as yaris was

Yes, as are Aegis Wing and Hexic HD. And that Doritos game.

Nice find ,but I can't download since my current profile is set under 17 and Microsoft won't give my other account back... :/

OMG its 99999 microsoft points for that i might as well buy a real life gold lancer i guess microsoft caught on. Sux

Well, might aswell enjoy it while it lasts? If anything, transfer it over to a memory card and see if you can smuggle it after the patch?

Thanks op. I missed this the first time they did this because their website was down or something, so I was really bummed. I shall be bummed no longer!
Are you serious? :bomb:

I hope MS doesnt take it away from the people who already downloaded it and have it in the game.
Well, there are only two ways they could possibly do this.

1) They have logs of who used the marketplace to download it and will remove the license to use it on anyone who used marketplace to download it. This could still affect a small percentage of people who have a legitimate one UNLESS they even have records of who actually entered a code.

2) The LE disc is different from the regular edition of the disc and anyone NOT using the LE disc will simply not be able to use it (will affect every user who bought one via eBay and such that doesn't actually have the LE)

Needless to say, whatever they choose I'm sure they're going to piss a lot of people off who legitimately have it.

Either way, I don't give a crap because I rarely play multi-player and it doesn't do squat except look shiny.

i'd think microsoft is advanced enough to be able to check how things were obtained, if they got it through marketplace or through a code
i'd think microsoft is advanced enough to be able to check how things were obtained, if they got it through marketplace or through a code
Indeed they are... As a matter of fact, you can check on all your download 'content' yourself:

http://live.xbox.com/en-US/accounts/MyAccount.aspx

And select 'Purchase History'...

Additionally, they also know how the item was 'validated' and, if purchased, how much was paid for it, although this information is not shown on the page mentioned above.

The people that used a code that came in the game case should not be affected.

So, as far as I can tell, the only trick is going to be how to tell the difference between the people who had legit access to download via the web site, and the rest of us. Course, if I understand correctly, this DLC should not have been available via the web at all (i.e. it was restricted to LE releases via the code in the case only), which means ANYONE that downloaded it via the web site should not have it.

Then they will have to patch the game to go into this database and verify if you are allowed to use this DLC each time you play. Anyone who has tried to use DLC on a 2nd console that is not connected to the internet is well aware of the fact that most games already do this 'validation' at launch, so it probably won't be that big of a deal to have the game validate this 'DLC' against a revised list of valid user accounts.

They will not "remove" the DLC from your console (for many reasons), but instead the DLC will simply not show-up/function in-game once the patch is applied.

Course, I am with the conspiracy theorists on this one... The leak was intentional to get more attention to the game, since it was not doing as well as expected. This is after-all the SECOND TIME they mess this exact same thing up... But, that is just my opinion.

That's lame. I have the LE, I bought it used but didn't get the Gold Lancer. And now that I have it, they're going to take it away. Balls.

I Agree, the leak was intentional(WTF was it doing on the market place to begin with:cool: it was suppose to be only a DL code via the LE version of the game). I believe that those who were able to download it have nothing to worry about. Simply said, whoever has it doesn't have to worry. It was meant for a limited amount of people to obtain and the news(AKA CAG POSTs) spread like wild fire, so Microsoft simply just made it almost impossible to get after a certain amount of people have obtained, thus the 99999 cost(1250$-1500$, if you really want it,buy it. lmao ), otherwise why wouldn't they just take it off the marketplace altogether. In addition i believe microsoft has alot more to worry about then a 108kb downloadable content but if for whatever reason they do take it away, so be it. it was nice while it lasted i have both gold hammerburst and lancer and to tell you the truth i ditch it like 5 sec into any multiplayer game because those are low damage weapons.

Half of the reason for including games with games now is to discourage the sale of used games...

Wait. Isn't this outperforming sales of the first title? Granted, there are more 360 owners out there, but still...how is it not performing?

As for the gold lancer, I downloaded it, but if they take it away I won't be too upset. Maybe if it was a game I really, really cared about. But this ain't it.

Although I don't want to sound like I disagree with you, I figure I would point out that ALL DLC (even LE and exclusive) is now visible via the web now due to the 'cue it up for re-download' feature... The difference is that all the other 'LE' content I own has always cost 99999 ms points (and yes, we quickly checked them all).

The conspiracy theory is that the Lancer was initially 99999 points (unconfirmed by me), and somehow it became 'free' a while ago... Then they fixed it... And, now, for some strange reason, it became 'free' again... And, now that it is news on many gaming sites, again, it is fixed.

There is a big difference between the current number of people playing, and the number that had been anticipated. I am not implying that the game isn't selling well, only that there aren't as many people playing as they had expected. Course, considering the current economic situation, I think I can guess why things like video games may be sliding a bit...

I got the Lancer the first time it was free on the marketplace. I did buy the LE but sold it on ebay for $35 I think. If the lancers get taken away I am going to be upset for about 2 seconds, since I actually think the regular one looks better. If anything EPIC/Microsoft should give out free codes for other weapons since the online in Gears 2 was so fucked up at launch and it took for ever to get fixed.

I second that.... Epic/MS should just give out free codes anyway since the online in Gears 2 was so fucked up at launch and it took for ever to get fixed
