Seriously surprised there hasn't been a thread for Dead Island yet. I got it a few days early thanks to my local Target (who apparently can't keep up on what day it is).

So far the sheer brutality of the game is enough for me to give it a 9/10 but despite what a few reviewers have said I quite enjoy the simplicity of the missions because...well they are exactly what you would do in a real zombie crisis. Finding food, water, helping random survivors, and scavenging for various supplies to make weapons is the most fun I've ever had in a zombie game. Biggest downfall is the fact that there is no same system multiplayer and I have run into a few glitches (however they are apparently going to be patched day 1).

Here are some videos to getcha all excited!

There was a thread for it when it was first announced, but for some reason it's not pulling up in search. I was kind of surprised not much more info was given for this game as it got closer to launch...and no demo either. Kinda makes me think it's going to do pretty poorly in sales. I'm looking forward to it though and can appreciate a "survival game" that actually focuses on survival and not stopping an evil corporation or some other political nonsense. But I enjoyed the Disaster Report and Raw Danger games for PS2 as well.

the game looks good, but it seems to have a slower pace compared to l4d. saw a gameplay video though and by the looks of it, the atmosphere is pretty solid. like the zombie growls can be rally scary when youre in a dark room.

Nope. Online only.
Ouch! Deal breaker. :(
I feel the same way, luckily a co worker is getting it too so I can still get on some MP action.

Pretty good review of the game here. I'm liking what I'm reading as it definitely seems atypical from most of the "zombie games" out there.

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Games/Reviews/dead_island_360/

I'm honestly really intrigued by the idea of playing the single player (possibly more so than the co-op) since the game doesn't give you AI partners like in Left 4 Dead. You're literally on your own. That sounds pretty awesome.

Another favorable review from IGN. Both sites gave it an 8 out of 10.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/119/1192320p1.html

Joystiq gave it 3 out of 5, and basically said "NEEDZ MOAR GUNZ!!!" Apparently, they're not old enough to remember true survival horror.

I'm actually sitting at the Giant across the street from my local gamestop and picking this up in 40 minutes. (I had a good bit of credit which is only reason I'm going to GS).

Metacritic was a 75 at one point, but I love me some zombie games. And hearing it's more survivalism and there was one comparison to fallout, I couldn't resist.

Am I the only one that thinks this looks like a first person dead rising? I really wanted a good story and lots of loot and unfortunately its seems like reviews are saying there isn't much of a story until the end. I'll wait until it drops before i get it.

Went to a few stores today and this game is selling insanely well. I rented a copy. I know I've been trash talking it, and the reviews are all over the place, but I've got to check it out for myself.

Is everyone having problems with co-op? I can't join anyone's public game, can't change my game lobby settings and my friend and I can't join each other's games. Sucks because we're only going to play this co-op and we planned to play all night. Bah.

I just played with two coworkers for a couple of hours. We had a problem in the beginning getting connected but then the host of our party was able to go to the xbox live menu and invite us to his game.

Haven't had any issues with co op yet either, going to play a fair amount tonight with a buddy so hopefully I wont run into any.

Still having a ton of fun with it though. I've been describing it to customers as a "zombie survival simulator" because the missions are exactly what you would expect to do if a zombie plague broke out, and the weapons (most of them) are realistic in terms of making random objects (ie. baseball bat) dangerous as all hell (ie. adding nails).

That's weird, I've been reading other places that other people have been having lots of problems too. I hope it's just some rare thing or that something is wrong and it gets patched soon.

Only got a chance to play a couple of hours tonight but so far I love it.
Something satisfying about aiming a hammer at a charging zombie and watching it plant firmly in their skull as you throw it.

Who really goes to a zombie movie for the story? :)
Buy this thing up folks. I want Dead City. hahaha

If I have one complaint so far....none of the playable characters really make me care which I use. I heard somewhere the character really doesn't matter anyway. That true?

Ive been looking forward to this game for a while. Already put 10 hours into it and I obviously am enjoying the game. Ive had a couple glitches where enemies get stuck in walls, or clip through walls so badly they can hit u & u can hit them. Other than that, its been nothing but fun times & plenty of exploring.

such a great game :D

the only complaint I have right now, is there's a part near some of the hotels or something, where you go down these stairs to get a key from some guy, and getting back up them is nearly impossible... same with the bathroom nearby, you go down the stairs and have to sprint and jump as fast as possible at a certain angle to get back up...

other than that, great game.

I got excited when I picked my copy up, because the box seems to imply that it does indeed have local co-op. it says 2-4 co cop in green letters, and then in orange for the online. maybe it was originally intended to have local co-op? bit of a bummer.

there is quite a bit of loot in this game, and the quests are great. it feels like fallout 3 + borderlands + left 4 dead to me. but really is one of the better zombie games i've ever played. it's quite addicting. those on the fence, i hate to say it cus i usually try to wait for price drops as well, but you're missing out. it's totally worth the full price, imo.

This game totally fell off my radar. Hopefully there will be a decent price break come Black Friday

It says 2-4 due to system link. Why Microsoft won't change the box to be more specific, I don't know, but this has pissed a lot of people off lately with different games.

I picked up this game first thing yesterday. Unfortunately, no one on my friends list has it, or I haven't played with them in so long it would be awkward. I find single player to be extremely boring, and the half hour or so I played coop I had a lot more fun. So, basically, I'm looking for partners to play the game. I'd prefer someone who doesn't sprint through every area and likes to explore a bit (though not every inch), and someone who is willing to let the cutscenes and dialog play completely and not skip them. I'm currently playing as a level 13 Sam B in Chapter 5. If you're interested, send a message to my gamertag: Deadly Fern.

I started DI with Purna, the Aussie cop. I'd like to try a different character too. Does anyone know if you can have more than one save file/character? I know you can switch your game between co-op or single player, but I'd like to try to run a single player character and a co-op one.

Loving the game so far.

Yes you can, I have my level 21 character for single player and my level 7 for co op.

Just wondering for anyone that pre-ordered or got the Limited Edition through gamestop, are those extras worth it? Any specific detail on if the weapon blueprint or arena dlc is worth paying full price? I'm just wondering because I still haven't picked it up yet.

Well you better decide today as any unsold preorder is going back on the shelf Friday, especially since the majority of Gamestop's are sold out and turning people away.

The arena is not out yet and I have no idea what it is. The weapon blueprint is neat, but certainly not worth paying money for.

Do you mean that the arena dlc is not even available even though you have the download token? So does that mean you have to actually wait for the marketplace to have it before you can acquire it? I was under the impression since it was pre-ordered you would be getting early access to it as well not being forced to wait for it. Any confirmations on this?

The GS website always stated that it would be available at a later date.

I played a game with some random person earlier (by the way, why's it so difficult to join a game? i was searching and searching for games and none of them would let me push A to join, seemed broken or something, same with finding a quick match, it never seemed to find one) but this one random person sent me a friend invite and i joined in. everything was going fine.... until i decided to throw my two best weapons at this thug that was beating the hell out of us.... i ended up dying, and when I came back I saw he had picked up my weapons and was using them... full upgraded purple and orange weapons, with mods and everything... and I asked about them sending messages (my mics always seem to be broken when i need them, stupid kids) .. anyways, what a jackass. :(

I pre-ordered and have the special edition. It says the ripper is available now and the bloodbath arena will be available shortly. I was able to redeem the ripper code but it tells me "There is a problem with the offer associated with this code" when I try to enter the bloodbath code.

Also when you go to the additional content menu, it says Ryder White's Campaign and Bloodbath Arena are not yet available and the Ripper Mod is unlocked.

Damn that really blows. I've never even thought of that. Guess we have to be careful with our rare weapons when playing co-op.

yea... don't chuck them all at zombies. haha. especially in co-op. the other thing is i've had a few decent weapons disappear after throwing them, if you do it during a quest and the quest finishes they disappear i think.

another quick tip: dont drink/sell off all your alcohol bottles like i did, theres quite a few quests involving them (you'll know what i mean) better to have them when you need them later on, than having to go hunt for them with flesh hungry freaks after you the whole time, there's also a guy who'll make molotovs for you out of them as well

There are two guys (that I've found so far) actually.
The one in the guard tower near the beginning of the game who requires five, but there's a guy along the one road between the two gas stations iirc that after you do a quest for him, will also make molotovs, but only requires 3 bottles.

Hmmm must have missed it.
The only survivor I found between the two gas stations was the couple with the flipped over car.

When you do the one mission to gather juice boxes, if you start with the northern gas station, then go to the southern one, I'm fairly certain the suggested route takes you right by him. That's how I found him anyways. If it helps, he's in front of a house that's surrounded by a gate and there's zombies trying to get in the gate. There were also a few vehicles around said house as well.

there's more people that want your alcohol later on too. dont wanna say too much. but just never drink or sell it, cus everyone wants alcohol in this game lol.
