eh.. but this is Family Video.. are they ex rental copies or is it brand new?

jayare - it says it includes the digital copies.

Whatever, I'm in. I don't even care about extended editions.. theatrical versions are fine for me.

Wow what a deal. I guess I can now "eat crow" with a statement I made when I first bought these from the WBShop for less than $60. I said these movies wouldn't be available for less than $40 (Trilogy) until the Extended Editions came out in 2012.

I'm obviously mistaken. I thought best case scenario, you'd see these movies for $14.99 a piece on sale.

I'm assuming these are new?

Edit - I guess they are. Order confirmation email says used products are delivered VIA USPS and the order confirmation says my copy is being sent UPS.
Amazon, price match please!
The only way Amazon is gonna pm is if we all let them know about this deal!!!
well they charged me already..
same.. they were quick to take my cash for an OOS item..

Hmm..I'm about 99.9% certain that my walmart is selling these for 15.00 each right now. Might be worth looking into.

thats each movie

this is all three movies, not just one.
i just checked the status and at the top next to the order # it says (Marked For Review). hmm...
Mine says this as well. Does anyone know if this is normal?

I was wrong about it saying it included the digital copies, btw, that was saying that there was another version that contains the digital copies.

These are probably used copies. I hope they don't have the thing around the center of the disc.. ugh..

I looked at their used dvd's and they clearly say "USED" so I'm pretty sure this is new.

Great price, but I just can't be bothered to upgrade me extended DVDs to blu-ray theatrical versions.

No extended cuts, no buy.

Site says they're out of stock but more are on the way soon.
I rolled the dice and ordered them. $26 and change including tax and shipping.
That's a great deal.
Still $66.49 at Amazon.

For what it's worth, keep in mind these have major video quality issues (particularly Fellowship), and very few extras compared to the extended cuts. Still a good deal, just making sure people realize that they will eventually need to upgrade this, which is why I'm not dropping my $26 right now.

Are these the extended versions? One of the categories it's in is the "theatrical release" but it also says that this "Peter Jackson's epic trilogy is fully told here, with special extended version of all three LORD OF THE RINGS films included."

Yes, they could/should be better, I'm not disputing that. Though, they are a decent upgrade over the DVDs, especially with TTT and ROTK.

No matter what the site says these must be the Theatrical releases only due to the fact that the extended editions have yet to be released. Unless this is some sort of awesome pre-order. Which I doubt since I'm sure that pre-orders wouldn't be OOS.

I too am going to resist the allure of this deal simply because I don't want to order something OOS and I'd much rather pay more and get all the features. I'm not falling for the trap of buying the same movies four times. I'm stopping at three so I'm waiting 'til next year.

Thanks for the find though OP. ;)

i've seen a few people say they noticed that there are a few extended/added scenes compared to the original theatrical DVD releases, but nowhere near the full director's cuts.

oh, and i just checked the status of my order again. as of 3:30 this morning before i went to bed, it still said "marked for review" but i just checked now at 11:30 and it says "in fulfillment" ...so it looks like it's gonna happen, cap'n!

Pretty major for high-budget films to get scores like that (3/5 is very poor in that regard). But if you're looking for a quick fix while waiting for some quality editions to come out, it's not a bad price.
or maybe he thinks spending $45 is better than spending $25 for the same thing? j/k
Someone posted earlier that they were selling for $25 each somewhere and I said they were 15.00 each at walmart. Yes, 45 is more than 25...I just meant for those that missed out, 45 for the trilogy ain't too bad.

This is the Theatrical Editions similar to what Amazon and Best Buy, etc. are selling, and NOT the extended edition which is not even out yet:

http://reviews.bestbuy.com/3545/935...otion-picture-trilogy-6pc-reviews/reviews.htm

My friend ordered this through Family Video when it was supposedly "on sale" for about $45 a week ago. But $27 + s/h tax = still a really good deal.

A lot of people were giving this 2/5 stars simply because it was only the Theatrical.

Per Amazon, the Extended Edition is due out to be release around 2011-2012:

I'll wait for the extended version release. By the time that happens, just like other trilogy pack releases, the Theatrical Edition should be on a firesale less than ~$20 anyway.

i don't think anyone expected it to be the extended edition. it's pretty common knowledge that it's the theatrical edition

I'm waiting on the extended editions like everyone else but I went ahead and ordered this because I figured the deal was so good, I could sell these when the extended editions come around for at least somewhere around 20 bucks. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy the theatrical versions.
deals dead btw, it was raised to $45.99
that's why i edited the post at 12:20 when i noticed it was sold out. i can't edit the thread's title. next time read the whole post.

I was tempted this morning, but opted to still vote with my wallet and not buy these theatrical cuts.

Don't want to buy both and send the message that double dipping is ok.

Same here. I'm really hoping it actually ships. I'm starting to think I should have maybe used a faster shipping speed so they just ship it quick.

I'm really hoping these ship for this price. And then when the extended editions inevitably come out, I have a feeling I could give the theatrical edition away as a gift or at least sell it for $20 and recoup most of my money.

I biased though because I only bought the Return of the King Extended Ed on DVD and I still haven't watched it yet. I'm not a die hard fan, but I still appreciate how great these movies are.

For the record, you can edit the title; it's part of the "advanced editing" option.
