My order still says "In Fulfillment" so i wonder how many orders they had to go through, plus correct me if i am wrong. Its not really double dipping to the film companies is it, because we are buying this as used material and they see none of that profit, i will def still buy the extended editions when they release, but untill then. 25 for the trilogy is wayyyy worth it. then give the regular editions later to a friend for a present or something.

This is new, not used.

There's nowhere that says it's new. It says it doesn't come with the digital copies, so it might just be excess rental copies.

thats what i was thinking scorch. Like when you buy a used game from blockbuster in original case, it sometimes comes with the dlc code. Hmmmm guess i will find out, hope it doesnt have that whack sticker around the disc. *crosses fingers*

i'm 90% sure that I saw "[NEW]" in the upper left hand corner of one of the pages that I was on when I went to checkout.

It's new everyone. There are two box set versions, one with the digital copies and one w/o. Look it up on familyvideo.com or amazon or anywhere else. You'll see there are two different versions. The used stuff on from familyvideo.com is clearly marked as used, these were not used.
they don't even sell used blu-rays. only dvd and games.
Have you ever been to a family video? They sell excess DVD and Blu-Ray movies once they're not "hot titles" and are rented less. It's possible that these are clearance rentals..

and on that note, has ANYONE heard ANYTHING? I e-mailed them and asked why they charged me up front and they said that this was done due to an increase in fraud. They asked if there was anything I wanted to do with my order, so I was a smartass and said I'd like to receive it and asked if anything was in stock yet.. no response.

I haven't heard anything yet. My order still says "in fulfillment," whatever the fuck that means. I'm glad u were being a smartass. That was a pretty stupid question they were asking. I hope they ship out our orders.

Just got this

Thank you for your recent order. We are sorry to inform you that the following item(s) is(are) on backorder:

1 x Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy Blu-ray Disc

We have contacted the distributor already on your behalf and will notify you when your product(s) are in stock, usually within 2-4 weeks. We will monitor your order closely and provide you with updates as they become available to us.

Fun fact:

Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy Includes Digital Copy Blu-ray Disc
Release Date: Apr 6, 2010
In Stock: Usually ships in 1 business day

Seriously, FV? Unless they're shipping the movies to me separately or used (in which case, why would they call the manufacturer?), they should just ship out the other version.
Someone on DVDTalk claimed their copy of the LOTR trilogy shipped, even after ordering during the backordered phase. Here, Post eleven.
That sounds promising. I'm really getting my hopes up because I'm hoping against hope that FamilyVideo doesn't "pull an Amazon" and just cancel them all.

According to the person's profile (who got the shipping confirmation), he lives in MN. Could his region have something to do with it shipping sooner? Maybe he just ordered before us though.

I'm really wishing I would have paid extra for the faster shipping.

HOLY CRAP!!

I e-mailed customer service and asked if they couldn't fulfill what I ordered, could they possibly just send out the other version, since I didn't see any difference other than the exclusion of digital copies. I got this in response:

Hello Scorch,

We have switched it for the other version, and will be shipping it out to you by
UPS 2ND DAY AIR.

Thank you for choosing FamilyVideo.com as your choice for entertainment.

Your friends @ FamilyVideo.com

:whee:

True to their word, received today.. brand new/sealed trilogy set with digital copies. They've got me as a customer for life.

thanks for the info, scorch! i wrote them the other day citing your info and i just got a response with the same exact result: "We have switched it for the other version, and will be shipping it out to you by UPS 2ND DAY AIR."

So what exactly did you guys say in order to do this? I bought mine on the 24th and still haven't heard anything yet. Sorry if this was talked about last page... I'm on my phone typing this and it's already slow as shit without me going through previous pages. I saw what Scorch wrote, but is there anything I should add to my email to make sure it's new? Thanks!

I wrote them friday but haven't heard back

I wrote them about this a couple days ago. They emailed me today saying that they could not switch it, but they did ship my original order today (10/4). I'm still happy with that. I had no use for the digital copies. I just wanted my movies, and I'm getting them. :D

i don't get what you mean when you say "to make sure it's new". it's a new copy, it wouldn't ever be used. i simply said that i noticed they had the version with the digital copies in stock and asked if they could substitute that for the version i ordered that had yet to ship and they replied saying they're sending me the blu + digital copy version and even upgrading to 2nd day shipping.

i guess they're going to take the hit because they know it's far cheaper to keep an existing customer than to recruit a new one. by keeping their promise and going above & beyond i'll absolutely give them repeat business in the future.

Thanks for the response phishphreak77. I remember there being some debate on whether this was new or used earlier in the thread, and I guess that was my biggest concern. Knowing that they're all new kind of changes it for me. Thanks for clearing that up!

no problem, nesmaster. i don't get why any debate or skepticism ever happened in the first place.

1) they don't sell used blu's on their website, just DVDs and games.
2) even if they were out of stock of used sets, how would they go about procuring more used copies to fulfill all those orders that were placed?

it was clearly a pricing error but they're keeping their word and allowing those orders that were placed to be fulfilled. and guess what? it's lead to all this PR from CAG, blu-ray.com, slickdeals and various other messageboards. priceless word-of-mouth and spreading their name around to parts of the country/world that weren't even aware this company existed. it's a win/win, really.

I'm still a little annoyed as my order has said in-fulfillment for 11 days now. I contacted customer service by email yesterday early morning and still haven't heard back.

I guess it's time to make a phone call to see what's up...

Awesome, I just gave them the call and THEY mentioned upgrading to the digital copy version without me bringing anything up - also added the 2 day shipping and sent it out right away!

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on these guys. I get their daily email alerts now as well. Haven't noticed anything too spectacular, other than my phone going off at 4 am to let me know about movies I usually find at big lots for $1 cheaper, but hey... excellent customer service indeed.

I just called them - talked to Ben - told him mine was already charged - on back order - could they ship the version with digital copies... he put me on hold - came back and said there was no way they could do that due to the vast price difference... also told me my order would be cancelled if they didn't get stock in within 60 days and a refund would be issued then!

very disappointed

I sent them an email and then called immediately afterwards. I was told that a copy was sent out to me on the 24th, which I don't believe, as I would have had it by now going USPS Media Mail or First Class Mail. That, and the order would have been updated to "Shipped" and not left in "In Fulfillment". Plus, I had asked them to change my billing address, as it was wrong, and they changed my shipping address to my billing address instead.

I asked about swapping it to the "in-stock" version with the digital copies and was told that I couldn't, due to the price difference. I mentioned that they had done this for other customers, and he immediately mentioned CAG, plus that they won't be doing it again in the future due to the price difference. :whistle2:s I told him that I'd wait to see what I'd be getting and to leave the order alone for the time being. I mentioned that I thought it was odd that they were treating customers differently, and that I'd wait out the order.

My guess is that someone was swapping out the orders for the version in-stock, someone caught it and they're stopping it. I bet there will be some of us that don't get anything and end with canceled orders and others of us that get versions without digital copies. There's more and more studios sending out versions of their product without the DVD version and without the digital copy version for the rental market, and this might be the version that we're supposedly going to get if we don't get it switched.

They do list the two versions clearly on their site, one listing the DC version included and one that doesn't mention them. Every single vendor I've seen that carries LOTR on BR has it included with the digital copies, with nine discs. If there's six discs, then there's no digital copy discs, only the movies + extras discs.

I'm glad some people are getting the full release, though I think they're not doing it for everyone and that's an issue.

Not your issue, either way. If it was a mistake, they should have canceled the orders and that would have been that. Now that they seem to be doing some one way and some another way, that's a bad precedent. Anyone who gets their movies will be happy and anyone that doesn't get them won't be happy. If I don't get a full version of the retail product, it's going back to them at their cost.

I spoke to a rep this morning and he said that they should be getting more in 1-2 weeks. Also he said you can tell them if you don't want your order cancelled after 60 days of backorder. He told me that they have always charged at the time of order not at shipment, but couldn't explain why they didn't do that earlier this year when I Brisco County Jr. was back ordered for a month.

It looks like there are two versions that Amazon is selling, one with the DCs and one without the DCs. About a $20 difference between the two of them.

Version with DCs (9 discs in package):
http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Picture-Theatrical-Editions/dp/B000X9FLKM/

Version without DCs (6 discs in package):
http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Picture-Theatrical-Editions/dp/B003G2ZVPS/

So it does look like there are two versions after all, and that anyone who did get it with the DCs lucked out in that swap that was done.

f'n idiots sent me a copy of the animated lord of the rings instead. now i have to wait for them to send me a prepaid mailer and they claim they're stll going to send me the digital copy version but the guy on the phone was like "yea...we shouldn't have done that... but i'll still send you out that one." so we'll see what happens now...

I got an email on Tuesday night saying mine would be here sometime today which is Thurs and it would be coming ups
it has the correct sku and everything for the blu ray trilogy so hopefully they get it right with me

yea, that's what i thought, too. the packing slip had the wrong information on it, but on their webpage and in the email that got sent to me notifying me it had shipped, the item was still listed as the LOTR box set. somebody effed things up.

I called and the guy first told me that they couldn't switch my order because they are two completely different items.

however, he assured me that it would be shipped because they are continuing to get shipments and are slowly fulfilling orders as they get shipment

so it turns out they sent me the wrong f'ing thing. instead of the trilogy I got the animated movie combo pk

 that's what i just said a few posts back.
same idiot must have changed our orders.

yah i know, what a dumbass. so i just explained how frustrated and mad I am at their site, as well as the wrong order i received. Also how the animated blu ray costs less then the movie set i ordered and though i was going to receive. Final thing i said was if they don't fix this asap and get me what i ordered soon I am done shopping with their site for good as well as what should I do with the wrong movie, do you want me to keep it or return it. I said basically this on an email and on a phone message since their store was closed. Hopefully they fix this and make this right soon or I am just done with them forever.

so i called family video.com due to the email i got which had the same tracking number that already shipping, and they told me that they shipped another copy standard mail. it should come at the earliest this Friday. I had the guy on the phone double check to make sure it was the right order since i didn't want another copy of the animated movie to come in the mail again.

so they're shipping you the digital copy version or the one we had originally ordered?

Called FV, they said that my order is upgraded to 2-day UPS shipping, though no sign of it yet, though they are getting in copies regularly and shipping items regularly. They're just working through a huge backlog of orders, due to price.

No luck on getting the swap to the version with digital copies, as before. I might try that one again if it continues to be backordered.
been almost three weeks in fullfillment what is the number to call?
