Dead Rising 1 $9.99 on Amazon.com and NewEgg (Free Shipping)

Still my favorite xbox 360 game! It's going to be a love or hate relationship. If you download the demo and have a blast just running through the mall, killing zombies, you'll love it.

lol x2

I really hate this game. I thought I would like it, but I just can't stand it. I guess it really is a love/hate game. Escorting morons through a mall on a timer while thugs blast you with a .50 cal from a truck and you only have a baseball bat and you're on a strict timer? Not my idea of fun.

Yeah it is a Love/Hate kinda game. I loved it, but Dead Rising 2 is much improved, especially the survivor AI, and save slots. You still have to save in the bathrooms though.

If you are on the fence, and want a zombie game, I'd just wait till number 2 gets cheaper for console or pick it up now for PC.

lol yea to die in this game was completely aggravating at times.

Should I care about this game if I liked Dead Rising 2? I've heard lots of bad things about the save system and survivor AI hence I actually picked this up and traded it without even playing it. I found Dead Rising 2 enjoyable and nothing too difficult. I liked it enough to pick up Case Zero and West, although I didn't like West much mostly because of the setting (a secret base/factory isn't as fun as a mall or town).

Playing the first after playing dead rising 2 will just aggravate you. And let's face it, as much as I loved both, there isn't much of a plot line in either.

 Of course not! It's all about smashing and slaying zombies! But DR1 does sound aggravating from what I've heard, so I guess it's a pass even at 10 bucks.

Same here, the part with the thugs is where I made it in the game to realize I had enough and didn't like it. I did like the 2nd one a lot but I think coop had a lot to do with it.

Not really. I just load the main menu and reload my save... If you know how the system works, it's really not a big deal

If you just go to the bathroom like in dead rising 2 to save it you'll be fine. It's the people who played for 3 hours without saving that were screwed. So just save it every 20-30 minutes. Otherwise I liked the first one more than the 2nd. Mainly because I hated giving Katey Zombrex every 24 hours.
Most overrated game besides Halo
The game mechanics have been so controversial over the years that it'd be a bit of a stretch to say it was ever overrated. More often than not people seem to speak negatively of the game.

As others have said, once you get familiar with the save system it really shouldn't cause you that much of a problem. The thing that'll drive you crazy is keeping NPC survivors from walking into a death trap.

The first game I ever got on Xbox 360. It's fun, although monitoring your watch to make sure you don't miss things can be difficult when you start. If you think about it though, it fits the game. I think people expect it to be like in GTA, for example:

You: So is that the last task?
Friend: Yeah, we just need to meet here tomorrow so we can rob this bank for all it's worth!

You: Let's do this!
Friend: Alright, hope you got a good night's sleep when you went home yesterday because you're going to need it.

In Dead Rising, you can screw around killing zombies until
the rescue chopper shows up
, but you're going to miss the missions. It's your choice. The game is designed for multiple plays in that way. One time you can focus on rescuing everyone, one play you can focus on killing the evil people, you can try to do it all if you want, or you can drive around in a car mowing down zombies for a few days.

I'd say it's definitely worth it at this price.

I wouldn't even bother with this game without a 50'+ tv, otherwise you'll never be able to read anything on screen (what is, like size 2 ariel font?)

That problem was with standard definition televisions. I played the game letter boxed on a 17" 4:3 monitor and the text was readable at a reasonable distance from the display, considering the size.

So the save system wasn't horrible for me because I had a HD and memory card. You can probably still save on a HD and a mem stick or internal xbox memory so I had 2 saves at any given time. Made it more manageable.

As far as difficulty, the first thing I did was unlock the mega buster, which makes the game much easier. (To get this, you have to get the 56,700 kills cheevo and complete a game). Basically made all the enemies fairly easy to kill so let me focus on getting survivors and doing all the stuff.

I must have beaten the game around 10 times to try and get all the cheevos and still loved it.

*sigh* why cant someone make a GOOD zombie apocolypse game? This series is pretty crappy. The shitty time restrictions utterly ruin it, plus its just not a very well designed game.. magically respawning enemies (when you walk 10 feet off screen), terrible controlls, 1 button attack, all fail

A proper zombie game would be something along the lines of fallout 3 but in a straight zombie apocolypse setting. That would be awesome
