Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread #2

I think the reason I couldn't enjoy this game is even though I KNOW you're not supposed to do everything in one run, skipping things bothered me so much that I just gave up on the thing. This is not a game for completionists.

That and the controls. It does do a better job of being a next gen game than gears of war, though.

This IS a game for completionists. There is so much to do and find it is unreal. I played the hell out of it and still have 200 points to go.

I really need to go back to it.

YehaI keep coming back to this game.. I think I'm at level 48, and I've beaten the game twice aready.. but I only get the ending where you just survive 72 hours.. I never complete the story, hehe.

Agreed. This might be the only game I've ever beat and then felt the urge to (and did) IMMEDIATELY play through a 2nd time.

After posting above, I went back to try and go for the Saint achievement. This is my third attempt.

I'm at the point where I have Isabella, Kindell and the 5 survivors at Colby's all in my "party." I have 2 hours to get from Colby's to the Securtiy Room before I miss the next case. Tried it once last night and they all get too overwelmed by zombies in Paradise Plaza. (I have to carry Isabella and can't fight). Hopefully I can get it on my next try.

from my experience, usually giving people shotguns helps the most, and having a healthy line of food for them as well.

Well after a few tries I gave up on that method. I was running out of time with that many people in my party to protect.

Instead I hauled ass with kindell and isabella back to the security room and used a couple Quickstep smoothies to make it back to Colby's. Rescued those 5 with no issues on the first try. Seven survivors was just too many to be rushing with.

Looks like I'm doing okay for time now, might still be a little tight rescuing the next 7 and making back to Kent by noon, but I think I have enough wiggle room to make it. Assuming the survivors all cooperate. :) I think I might get the Transimissionary achievement as well. AFAIK I have picked up all of Otis' calls.
I'm kind of late to the party, but how difficult is it to play this game on a standard television? Is it even worth trying?
I would say it's not worth trying...This game was the reason i bought the console and I put it down after 40 minutes. I didn't touch it for another 5 months until i bought a VGA cable.

The graphics look good in SD....it's just that the text is so small that I felt that i couldn't complete missions because i didn't know what I was supposed to do.

I've had this game since last July and I stopped playing it once I got stuck on the defuse the bombs mission. No matter what I did I just couldn't hurt carlito. I've read it's easier if you have the mini chainsaws, but I didn't kill the clown. I finally gave up and let carlito blow the place up and restart the game @ level 19. Hopefully, I can finish it this time around or atleast get past that damn carlito mission.

BTW, what ever happened to that rumor of online co-op via XBLM?

The way I did the defuse the bomb mission and it's worked multiple times for me now is to cut through the mall. Just take the service doors, run down, defuse the bomb and then go back through the mall to the next one. I've diffused most if not all of the bombs without even seeing Carlito.

Yeah a lot of people just assume you have to do them all in one sweep. You can leave the tunnels and come back.

So grab the white car under Pardise Plaza, snag a bomb, go back to PP and return for a new car. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

Well I went back to this game this weekend to try for my third attempt at the Saint Achievement. I'm in the home stretch, final 12 hours, so assuming all goes well, I should finally have it.

During this run I also managed to snag:
- Transmissionary
- Tour Guide
- Census Taker
- Hella Copter
- Saint
I played on a sd television and it was fine. Dont be scared away by that
Ditto. I had no problems playing on my old TV before I got my HD.

If you have a large party of hostages to rescue, wait.

There's a store in one of the wings (the old timey antique store, where you rescue a survivor). You can grab as many swords as you want. Do this. Kill the psychopath in the theatre and grab the book he drops. It makes civilians attack zombies instead of cower in fear. Give each one a sword. Let the fun begin. Makes everything SO much easier.

And any weapon you give civilians gives them infinite ammo. I made the mistake of giving a civilian a shotgun.. ended up getting caught in the shot quite a few times.

Yeah. I actually prefer giving them a shotgun. It takes out multiple zombies at a time. As long as you don't mind getting hit once in a while. I always carried multiple smoothies so it was never an issue.

Aw man, I bet you could have done it eventually. At least you will find that the game will be much easier this time around, just keep some katanas or mini chainsaws and some juices/wines handy and you can take any boss down very easily.

anwyays you'll have fun starting it again, I must have played this game through like 5 times. BEST GAME EVER

It was revealed during the week of April 1st. I don't think it was ever debunked as an April Fool's joke, but I have since written it off as such.
where in the hell is the maintence key? I can never find it, and I've done the zombie genocide achievement.
It's in a small storeroom underground... it's really easy to find, I just don't know specifics.

As soon as you go down the ramp going into the underground, make a right. Go down a little ways and make a left at the first turn you see. Follow that down a little bit and turn right. Go down some and there will be a door. The key is in that room, along with a SMG and some meat.

Wow, I played the heck out this game last summer. All I need is the Transmissionary achievement. But it hardly seems worth re-playing and having to deal with Otis.
Great game though.
So I rented this game and it really is awesome, but that save system is effing brutal.
the designers intended it that way. I like their logic actually.

maybe it's because I read up on the game before I bought it, but it's not really a bad save system. You only save in places where you're safe.

My only problem with save systems such as Dead Rising is that i don't have the time to find a save point some times. If i have to run to class, or home, or work or something, i should be able to save within a few minutes.

Not to mention that with the save system, you can save seconds before a deadline is up and fail the main storyline, making you start the entire story over if you want to complete it.

That was my only gripe. It should have a warning system in place for that. "Warning, you only have 30 minutes before the next case, are you sure you want to save?" or "You missed your last case, are you sure you want to save?"

I didn't mind the save points.

Saw Dead Rising today for 29.99 at Best Buy does anyone know if this is going to PH? Anyways I'm looking foward to playing it, as I've only seen it in action for about 10 minutes when my buddy brought it over shortly after it came out.

there's a thread in th edeals forum about this. It's also 26.99 used at EB/GS.

Safest. I once died mere steps away from the save point because the undead horde somehow found there way into the bathroom.

This is still easily my favorite next-gen title (across both PS3 & 360), even after nearly a year. I really want to go back and attempt some more achievements, I hope to find it for $20 (or less) soon.

I wouldn't be suprised if it became a platinum hit, just not sure how soon though, I'd pick it up before they uglyfy the case.

That's what my friend said and I'm kinda believin it. My cousin has a copy and it's worked fine for him ever since he got it months ago, but I rented it today (usually don't rent games but I got 14 free rentals at Hollywood video) and I've gone through 2 copies. Both of the copies just get stuck on the loading screen right after Frank jumps out the helicopter onto the roof of the mall. Now both the discs are pretty scratched up and it just pisses me off that people who rent games don't take care of em right just cause its not theirs.

I've had my 360 for about a month now and I've had no problems with any games at all. No disc errors or anything. It's probably just the Dead Rising discs right?

Some 360s had problems with Dead Rising. My first 360 wouldn't play Dead Rising, Table Tennis or Full Auto.

There's a bad batch of Dead Rising discs out there too, but not many.

It may be your 360. What's the "made on" date? You'll find it on the back above the serial number

Got my 2nd copy that I rented cleaned at GameCrazy. Couldn't test it there cause their 360 got DRE'd... Still gets stuck at loading on my console. The person at Hollywood said they'd let me rent something else or exchange it for another copy so I'm gonna just return it and rent something else. 2 whole rental days wasted without even being able to play the game...

they should have at the least create an auto save feature when you complete a case file. it's really annoying when i complete the second and third parts of the first case, only to die and have to redo it all.

now i understand the frustration most of you feel when you were playing this game. i just found out that i timed out on getting medicine to brad. am i not killing the bosses fast enough because when i started that mission to go to the grocery store i was already red.

My advice for that is go into each 72hour run with a plan on what to do. Are you going to do side missions? Only story missions? Go for achievements?

There are many different paths you can take. The game is meant to be played multiple times.

beat the game, got pissed off a couple times because of the saves, but in the end didnt really have any serious problems, now time to play through again to get the zombie genocide achievement and what comes with it

i've been taking on side missions, in my last game i managed to rescue the old couple, the lady at the jewelry store, the chick running away fromt he convicts, the japanese tourist, one of the 2 guys who barricades themselves, the fat guy at jills, and a chick in shorts. it was a pain escorting the 4 people while killing the convicts and it ticks me off that now i have to do it again.

but i think i'll use your suggestion and just got for the main cases. if i go again to do escort missions, will i have to do the case missions along with them or can i just let it expire and rescue people?

cool i guess i'll just concentrate on the regular missions more, although i think i got a handle on the rescuing on the first day.
