Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread

well that was pretty fun. The one element I am worried about is the time. I hate being rushed when i'm messing around in open ended worlds.

From reading the review it seems to be much the case. Too bad, I was going to buy this game too from the demo, but from the description on how the save system and how the game tree works, I think it's best to wait for the price to go down. A pity because it's the first out of the 3 good games coming out this month.

Those missteps are immediately evident in the uneven visuals. For example, there's nothing particularly bad about any of the character models, but they don't really look next-gen. Yes, they sport higher polygon counts, but you get the feeling that that you're looking at characters for the Xbox 1.5 more than for the 360.

and I swear 1up is obsessed about that. The graphics looked fine to me

and op you can mention that the water gun is also in the toy store with the servbot heads.

So, yeah. Okay, count me obsessed now. I've been playing the demo over and over, trying to find new stuff and trying to get a high score.

My best is 500 zombies killed, on the dot. Anyone get better?

the waterguns are basicly everywhere. Just be sure to find a cardboard box and chuck it in the air. When it hits something or the ground stuff will come out, but usually it's water guns.

I love the shopping cart though... pure sweetness. Also, did anyone else spot the awsome Megaman 2 The Movie poster?

This game is amazing. It's sort of GTA(for the PS2) all over again where it's sort of like, "Whoa, I can actually do that? I can actually use this to do that?"

One more secret, courtesy of the CAD forums.

1. You can get a 10,000 PP Bonus in the Servbot Toy Store. Servbot's head is misaligned. Jump kick the head until the Swirly Eyes are above the Frowny Face.

And some random thoughts.

1. Taking photos is pretty fun, actually. Hold L to bring up the camera. You'll have to change batteries every so often though. Just pick them up at the Camera shop.

2. There are 4 types of Photos I've found. Horror, which seems to be the default type, Brutality for when they're about to eat your face, Outtake, which is when the zombies is being teh funny (walking around with servbot heads, falling down stairs, slipping on oil) and Erotica.

That's right.

Zombie porn. You get it by taking pictures of the zombie chick in the little black dress. Kill her, and take upskirt pictures of her, with her boobies in the frame.

I loved this demo. My brother and his friend are absolutely insanely fanatical about zombie movies and they had such a good time playing too, it was hilarious to watch and to play

why does it say "this game made without consent by "Dawn of of the Dead" creator etc. etc" at the beginning?
why does it say "this game made without consent by "Dawn of of the Dead" creator etc. etc" at the beginning?
To cover their own asses, I presume. The game does bear similarities to Romero's classic.

Well there was a mall scene in the remake of Dawn of the Dead (and a psuedo mall in Land for the Dead).

I havent seen the originals, so i cant comment.

Yea when I first started telling my friends about this game I said it's like Dawn of the Dead. I can easily see where people would get confused.

Almost the entire original Dawn of the Dead takes place in a mall, so yeah my guess is just to cover thier asses. I have played the demo through quite a bit, finally got around to taking pictures. Found that books in the book store give you additional bonus if you have them in your inventory. Gonna have to go back in and try to find the Uzi now.

seanr1221 : I picked up a book that extended the use of Sporting Goods items, I assume this would cover the skateboard too.

Oh sweet, I'll have to look for that.

I really like the book ideas, they ad a nice layer of strategy to the game. I picked up one that showed icons above the zombies head for when the best time to take a picture was.

Finally got the demo downloaded and played through it 4 times already. This game is definitely a ton of fun and I am finding new things and new uses for items with every play through. This is definitely going to be a must buy title for me!

So many similarities. Pie in the Zombies face, the Gun Shopin the mall (shown on a Webisode), etc. This IS Dawn of tje Dead the Video Game for sure. Loving it. Time for a 12th time through the demo.

Also, anyone get the SMG? Its pretty sweet!

i think im going to stop playing the demo now, dont wanna kill the fun before the game comes out. well...inless someone i know wants to see it, that hasnt seen it already.

Is there anything to do with the oil besides throw it for them to slip on? And the condiments? I sense a hidden layer of hilarity + death.

This game has been superb fun to play and I'm sure will be only better in the full version with more options and items at your disposal. I've played the demo about 10 times now and it's good to find new things each time like having a lego or horse head on while dressed in childrens clothing riding a skateboard  The best I've got so far for a photo is 434

Yeah I have. Hope they have vinyls in the full game that get stuck in their heads  I think the golf club is fun and putting hangers in their mouths aswell. Somuch to do and use it's great.

ah, got it. never seen the movie before. maybe after playing this I will :)

I've played the demo I don't know how many times, and I must say that I love it. I'll be going down to Gamerush today to trade in some games and reserve it.
I wonder how many people will hold off on buying the game after that review?
Honestly, that review was really half-assed. I'm going to wait for IGN and Gamespot to review it (since their's are usually more in-depth) before I make my final decision. I just want to know how long it will take (in real world hours) to complete the game and what kind of replay value it has.

8/10 is bad now?

And I think it's such BS what he says about the character models. See this is why I love demos, because I honestly thought the character models were some of the best on any 360 game yet.

I finally got a chance to play the demo and I really enjoyed it. My only concern is that I still don't know exactly how Capcom is going to make the game play out. If the whole game has no story or anything tying things together, then it'll end up like a better State of Emergency, but not something remarkable. Anyway, I hope that there's some sort of legitimate game structure because the combat here is awesome and it's nice to finally see a good action game exclusive on the 360.

I know what you mean, but as I said in the last post it did bring up some good points about the save system and the time system which makes you replay it over and over. In the end it makes me think it might end up being a bit tedious.

But yeah 1up has always had some kind of stick up thier ass over next gen graphics, Graphics look fine to me.

Who cares about the review. Honestly, after playing the demo you guys should be able to make your own decision. IMO I think this game is a solid 9.5/10, and that's just based on the demo.

It seems like there's plenty of story and cutscenes. there are 4 cutscenes in the demo alone and they go nicely with how ridiculous the whole situation is

I think it's clear that this is nothing like State of Emergency. that game was so ridiculously bad for so many reasons.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I can't wait to see how the story plays out...especially with the nervous kid who is trying to snipe our hero.

Me and Sean were talking about this last night... now that the Marketplace has full featured demos, who cares what the reviewers have to say? Only if somehow the game got 3 out of 10's for some reason I'd give the reviews a look.

I enjoyed the demo a ton, I'll be getting it on launch day, same as with other games like Saints Row... I played them for myself, they were awesome, a full game expanding on these concepts is even better.

I'd rather everyone just try the games before they read what a review says. A lot of games that get good reviews end up being so so. Yoshi's Touch and Go, awful awful awful awful game IMO, but got good reviews. I dont think DR will get 9.5, but it is definately a good game. My biggest gripe is the combat is a little shallow, but hey the rest of it is awesome. I was sort of hoping it would be like dynasty warriors type combo's

Actually you can't make a solid decision just from the demo since it's just a small portion of the game. As much as I love the demo to death, the review brings up points about the game progression that could throw the whole game down the drain into fustration.
I wonder how many people will hold off on buying the game after that review?
Why would people hold off? From the last paragraph of the review:

From 1up:

The end result is a relentlessly inventive game worth the price of entry. With more than enough first-person shooters, racing games, and other cookie-cutter filler swamping the 360, it's encouraging to see such an original title land on the system. The experience is flawed -- some might say hampered -- by the save system and curiously designed game structure. But whether you 'get it' or not, Dead Rising nevertheless provides a wealth of secrets and mysteries for both eager gamers and the adventuresome. With each repeated play through a stage, Frank becomes stronger, better able to uncover the mysteries behind this allegorical horror adventure (we'll let you discover what really makes zombies zombies), and the experience becomes richer for it. While there's plenty of room for polish and finesse in future iterations, no hardcore gamer should miss the wholly unique experience provided in Dead Rising's debut.

Sounds to me the reviewer really dug it and encourages people to buy this game as well. The only people this review would "turn off" are idiots who just look at the score.

I finished downloading the demo today (and found out that you can't download in PD0 even if you're playing single player ). I though it was pretty fun if a little flawed, so I'll wait until I can get it for around $30 before I pick it up.

You can put a pan on the stove and then take it off, while it's hot and hit dudes in the FACE. That alone is worth 60 beans.

Has anyone found anything new that's not posted here? I realized there's bathrooms in the side hallway, and I found a bucket and a push broom.

Hmm. It seems that some of the boxes' items could be random.

I personally loved the Wasp scene and Sniper scene... This game I think is going to have alot of classic moments really.

The thing I'm most curiouse about is the marketplace downloads that you can download to unlock stuff. From what I'm guessing, capcom will have all the stuff to download right away, but in the game you have to earn the right to download that item by doing soemthing. Either that, or it's jsut downloads that unlock stuff when used in-game. Pure sweetness either way.

Awesome... the spitfire is bad ass.

Anyone jumped on a zombie's shoulders and walked over the crowd? That's awesome too.

I'm just surprised that people have a hard time basing their decision off a demo... its the next best thign to having the game really.

I was not sure about purchasing Dead Rising, but the Demo has got me thinking about picking this up on its release date.

I like this better than Saints Row and Ninety Nine Nights.
