Dead Space Extraction (Out Now!)
Finally EA gets it.
It took a $600 Million dollar loss for them to "get it". In other words they are doing this because they have to, not because they want to.

Nice to see more attention from EA, but I dunno if Dead Space is really what I was hoping for...
Im sure dead space is going to be awesome in SD resolution and 2-channel stereo sound. Badass!
The number of people who honestly don't care about those issues outnumber the people who do care about them. The Masses say hi.

Not to sound snobby or defensive but dolby pro logic II actually sounds really good, it is actually considered surround sound, it's just not digital. 480P is considered edtv, whereas sdtv is 480i. Does make a pretty good difference, not as much as 1080 obviously. So your points are only somewhat valid. Yes the wii is not hd. Good job. Does have a chance of wiping the floor with the other consoles control wise though. Here's to hoping it turns out really good. Not going to get my hopes up though.
I'd say the controls is an uphill battle.
Nope! All they gotta do is map the controls like Resi4 Wiimake and I'll be in heaven!:bouncy:

That's all Dead Space really is after all....Resi 4 in space.

I don't even want to imagine how bad the graphics are going to be. It's probably going to look like Doom 3 on Xbox. Not that graphics matter but the game is supposed to have a convincing atmosphere.

Doom 3 looked pretty nice on Xbox.

Dead Space has really grown on me as an IP in the weeks since I've played through it. Pick this up, knuckleheads. Or don't, and bitch about how you're getting nothing but shovelware, and overlook your failure to contribute to viable 3rd party IPs on the Wii. You can always have "Bass Pro Shops Squirrel Hunt'n" and the like.

I'm not saying that they didn't do a good job with the hardware, but it just looks too dated to me. My expectations have been set really high with games like Killzone 2 and Crysis. Gameplay will always be more important than graphics to me though.

Timed exclusivity is usually a sales killer, despite the occasional exception like RE4. Most people that were interested in the IP are going to have already played it on 360/PS3/PC in the next year before this comes out.

Its too little/too late for Dead Space. They also would've done better to pick a genre that doesnt have a consolidated following on other consoles.

The most relevant thing about this announcement is future support/titles. It only took a $641 million Q3 loss for them to stop ignoring the realities of the market.

I'm willing to accept that a lot of the decline in after-market ports is due to the lack of a secondary marketing blitz.

Not to mention the quality of these games tend to suffer due to being handled by very small teams and the original game being optimized for a very different system.

I hope this is a new game and not just a downport of the 360\PS3 game. That is really the only way I would be into it. Leaving out the graphical differences, the 5.1 mix in Dead Space is absolutely amazing. Not really sure how they can recreate that in pro logic.

Right, because (1) that responds wholly to my point of it being a new IP that's been on the market for under half a year, and (2) that's the sort of thinking the average consumer goes through when they make their purchasing decisions.

Whether you're right or not, what you've said is completely irrelevant.

Given that the majority of lifetime sales of a SKU gets clocked in the first month or two (in the traditional sales model which most games fall into), the fanbase for ANY IP on a single console, new or otherwise is as good as static. The growth over the long run is usually negligible.

My main point is that there is a strong case for timed exclusivity doing damage, both in Japan and the US.

US (First month NPD)
Bioshock 360: 491k (Aug 07)
Bioshock PS3: Didnt chart top 20, with #20 being 96k (Oct 08)

Japan(week 1) [PS3 @ ~3x 360 install base)
Fallout 3 (360)

You don't own a Wii do you? Surely you can't be that stupid to make a comment like this.

I would've agreed with you had this game been timed exclusive for 360 or PS3 since it adds nothing new to the table. But playing it with the Wii mote is a totally different experience. I hope the graphics are on par or better than RE4. I'm gonna double dip and I'm sure others are as well if the controls are as good as RE4.

RE4 in Space? Sounds good to me. The graphics weren't even that spectacular in RE4, in my opinion. I think the Wii can do much better.

It may work on the Wii as it involves dismemberment, so maybe the wagglestick will work with it.
Plus you do not move very fast, so the clumsy Wii controls should cope.
There are many Wii-only households out there that make it economically viable to port pretty much anything. The point of making this game is not to double-dip in the pockets of those who already purchased it once, it's to get new money from new people.
This guy 'gets it'. There are litterally *millions* of Wiis in houses that dont also have PS3/360s. So there is this huge audience for whom Dead Space will be 'brand new'. Look at another EA property, Rock Band, for insight. Even though RB game out on the 360 & PS3, the Wii version outsold them both by moving over a million copies. Thus, there is proof that the potential is out there to move units to an untapped market. I dont see how anyone could disapprove of this move. Smart for the company and is a "real" game for the Wii.

The only stupid person here is the one making ASSumptions. Ive owned a wii since launch, multiple wii's in fact. Such a terrible system.

Pick up the PS3 version for $30 now instead of waiting for the Wii. Unless you want the motion controls, o' course. It's hella fun, but maybe 8-10 hours of a single player playthrough with no online.

Nope, the stupid people here would be you of course when you said SD resolution. Why would anyone be stupid to buy multiple Wii's and not own it now? You sound like those people that bought it to price gouge on ebay. Can you tell me how exactly the Wii is a terrible system? If you don't even own the system, why come in here and comment? I bet you've never played RE4 on Wii am i right?

And damn, Dead Space on PS3 dropped to $30 already?

Wow. Can't even begin to access the stupidity in this quote.

So I'm curious, fanboys: Don't you guys have a Killzone 2 argument to get to? You know, one half of you being goading jackasses, and the other being butthurt defenders? Or did that all get cleared up in the twenty seconds I've used to write this post?

As for the game, I didn't care about it currently, and probably won't care about it when it comes out (oh big mean manly hardcore game where you are constantly being told where to go, THAT'S hardcore alright), but I'll go ahead and say that more developer support is (finally coming) good and I hope it ends up well for EA. Especially since I get the feeling that EA is one of the few giant publisher/developer groups out there that is honestly trying to improve their image, and is even willing to go through some rough patches to do so.

At the same time, I doubt the sales being good. But I guess we'll see. This is a slightly less pessimistic than DMK has, as I see good comments on both sides of that argument.
And damn, Dead Space on PS3 dropped to $30 already?
'Course not. But only knuckleheads pay $60 for any software these days.

Good sign that EA is finally paying attention to the Wii, but Dead Space seems like an odd choice. I would think a game like Mirror's Edge would be better suited to the Wii's audience, but a hardcore game is interesting, probably meant to corner all aspects of the market.

I guess they'll use MoH Heroes 2 controls for this game.

Personally, I don't care about this game: I just want NHL. Port that, why don't you.

You guys are seriously stupid, since i just said i own a Wii and i have owned more then 1 at multiple times and i still have one with about 10 games. The system is garbage, and yes, i have RE4 wii and the controls are horrible, feels misguided.

If you want to play dead space properly, get it on the PS3/360, it plays great there, looks amazing and sounds even better. If you are a bitter nintendo fanboy dying to taste the scraps of the HD consoles, enjoy your watered down product.

I'll probably grab it when the price is right.

I do not own either X/PS so finally being able to play on the Wii will be nice.

It doesn't matter if it's "watered down", gameplay will still be solid, and what if like half the wii owners buy it.... I think that might topple even the sales on the X/PS.

It's nice the EA if finally thinking without pushing crapware onto the wii.

Frankly the whole HD epeen is stupid... if great graphics and sound really mattered, the PSP would have trumped the DS LONG time ago.

It's the games and the gameplay that matters.
fuck NHL. MHL, god dammit!
Ooh, I don't know. That's a tough one as I want both. MLH might have the edge though.

Real EA support would mean a back-to-basics Wii Road Rash. The controls are a natural fit (hold remote and nunchuk like handlebars, lean to steer, attack from either side). And then I could eventually lobby for a Wii version of Skitchin'.

To be fair, the original Mutant League Hockey was pretty mediocre compared to Mutant League Football. But it is just screaming for a remake.

they want to know why according to you the system is garbage?!

you know 360/ps3 games are watered down pc games. not only that, it's also dumbed down pc games. true hardcore is on the pc, not the consoles and will never be for the consoles.

....Skitchin.
you guys remember those days? ea was a really good company back then.

Woot!

Another one that knows, PC>Console.

PC gaming won't go away, it'll slow down... but it won't go away.

ok anyways, I might get this for wii if they price it right.

lmfao, RE4 Wii controls are horrible? Now I know you're lying. If the Wii is really garbage, why do you still have one? Yeah you're a smart one. So garbage that you have more games on the Wii than I do! lol you're such a moron, buying so many games for a *garbage* system.

Oh and FYI, I *do* own Dead Space on PS3. If you'll notice I even said I might have to double dip if the controls for the Wii will be as good as RE4. I own a 360 too, I must be a huge nintendo fanboy right?

I concur. I've never liked a Resident Evil game until I played RE4 on the Wii. It's still my favorite game to date this generation. So, if Dead Space plays like RE4, it's a must buy.

I have my bad opinions on the Wii and it's software producers, but if you want to take a shit on the Wii in general every post, you should just find your own goddamned thread blitz, please.

I would prefer something to flesh out the story more rather than a straight up port, but I'll probably double dip once it hits $20. It should be impossible to mess up the control scheme, but this is Wii development we are talking about.
