Dead Space Extraction (Out Now!)

New interview. I still don't understand how you have puzzles in a scripted, on-rails game. Is this really a FPS?
that was the one thing that came to mind when i thought about onrail shooters, that it's limited on what it can offer for the gamer. when it was mentioned that those scares and other spooky stuff were to be included, i don't see how that would work. in umbrella chronicles there were scares but it didn't work like how it should work.

everyone seems hopeful about this game and i'm also trying to keep a positive aspect of it. hopefully it does become a really good game.

maybe the game would look something like google maps street view. when it goes along a single corridor, it'll be on rails and when it comes into an intersection, the player would get to choose on rather to go the direction they desire. additionally, it probably won't be as linear as umbrella chronices, maybe you'll actually end up doing the regular stuff that you typically do on a resident evil [survival horror] gameplay [backtracking, solving some puzzles you came about without having the equipment, etc....]. if they say guided fps, then this is probably the one idea i'm thinking their heading into.

I went ahead a pre-ordered the game when BB had those EA Sims cards 1/2 off. I figured $25 for a brand new game shipped to my house was worth it, even if the title turns out like Madworld/HOtD Overkill and hits the $20 clearance bin in a few months.

Any discounts or pre-order bonuses for this game? I think that Gamestop is offering a Challenge Mode for pre-order, but that looks like the only one I've found.

Seems odd for a Wii game to have an exclusive mode.

100 from GamePro
85 from IGN
83 from 1Up
80 from Nintendo Power

I'll pick this game up the next time I go to EA for a playtest session. :)

EA sent me an e-mail about this Challenge Mode.

It's just a cheat code that will be found all over the interweb within days.

wow that good of reviews. I actually enjoyed the first one on PS3. May have to look into this... i figured it would be like a chop till ya drop rehash..

I played through the first level. It seems like an okay game for an on rail shooter (game has nothing on HOTD overkill). Its kind of annoying only getting 7 shots to kill 3 guys when it takes 3+ shots to kill 1 guy. I'm sure that gets better farther in the game once u upgrade your weapons some.

Kinda sad to see the lack of posts in this thread since the game is out. I just beat the game. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The graphics are very good looking for a Wii game.

The Ending was pretty meh, but I thought it was a fun experience. It had all the weapons from the original game, and some interesting bosses. The game could be a bit challenging considering there are items around just about every corner that you have to use your stasis to grab. Sometimes you only pass by the item for a split second, so if you're stuck in another action (shooting, reloading, etc) you could miss that last upgrade/weapon and be stuck without it for the rest of the game.

I probably wouldnt recommend it for $50. There are four difficulty modes, but the story mode was probably only 6-8 hours (if that) so a rental would probably be the best thing.

Though if theres one thing this game will be good for, its making people want to immerse themselves in the universe even more. I think im gonna go watch Downfall and then do a 3rd play through of the original game.

*EDIT*

And if anyone needs confirmation, the "preorder bonus challenges" are the same ones you'd unlock just going through the story mode.

Just finished playing it, and I'd echo most of Bezerker's thoughts.

The story mode alone isn't really enough to demand a $50 price tag, unless you want to replay it a few times on higher difficulties or are interested in the challenges. x

The gameplay is excellent, though, and the art and sound design are still top notch. One of the high points of the original Dead Space was the excellent use of surround sound, and they did a great job on this prequel, even with only Dolby Pro Logic.

Also, the drop in/out coop is an awesome addition; this game get much more fun with a friend!

If you're a fan of the franchise, then this is worth at least a rental. It would be a good buy at $25-30.

Also, did anyone else have the game freeze (once), or hit any bugs where the game wouldn't go to the next part after killing all the necromorphs (TWICE)?

One of the guys who worked on Dead Space said that the insanely poor sales of this have doomed anything similar to be done on the wii again. Mission accomplished, i guess!

That's pretty sad...

but it's been like that for generations now...no serious games for Wii.
This game was fun but I beat it in two days on a copy I borrowed from my friend. The ending was
pretty weak too.
How many hours did you put in it?

I said in my review, I couldn't really take the pacing. There was way too much standing around waiting for something to happen. It's unskippable, too. Add to the fact that each chapter is thirty minutes without any place to save your progress, and you have a very unappealing game to me.

Sorry it sold badly, but I just want fun games. They don't need blood and gore or high production values to be interesting.

I noticed that. My wii froze for some reason near the end of one of the chapters, and I had to play the whole thing again. It does need a better save system.
According to NPD, it sold about 10k. It was a late Sept. release, but still pretty disappointing.
Not really.

Game sells well = "Wii owners want more rail shooters LOL"

Game sells poorly = "Wii owners don't want mat00r games LOL"

It's a no-win situation. These companies can take their retarded tests and shove them.
