CAGiversary!
Update: 4/16/05

Ths deal is now dead.
Go home... the party is over.

What's that? You wanna be the weird guy that hangs out after the party to talk about how cool the party was even though you were also the guy everyone at the party was trying to get away from?

Fine.... We'll say open for ya... BUT NO STICKY FOR YOU!

Thanks to everyone.... and don't forget.... now that you've gotten an entire library of PSP games for damn near free... don't forget to at least say hi to your DS once in a while.....

Your DS misses you....

Toodles!

UPDATE 4/11/05: As some of you may know... this deal advertised as "3 Trades for 1 PSP Game" is over as of 4/10. However, EBGames.com indicates that the deal is still fresh until the 15th, but you must trade in 6 for 2 games in one transaction in order for it to work.

Under In-Store Promotions, EBGames.com reads:
"Free select PSP title with PS2/XB/GC game trade-in (pre-purchase) Active: Now - 4/15/2005
Trade-in 6 qualifying pre-played PS2/XB/GC games and receive $79.98 towards the pre-purchase of 2 of the following titles: GRETZKY NHL HOCKEY PSP or TWISTED METAL: HEAD ON PSP or WORLD TOUR SOCCER PSP or ATV OFFRD FURY BLAZIN TRLS PSP or APE ESCAPE PSP or NBA PSP or WIPEOUT PURE PSP or MLB PSP. Game boxes and instructions are required. Some titles are excluded from trade. May be combined with other EB Promotions. Typographical errors are not the responsibility of EB Games. Not valid on hardware. See sales associate for complete details. Customer may be responsible for sales tax."

Some stores may or may not honor this promo, and some stores may still let you only trade in 3 for 1. Regardless, we'll keep this thread stickied until the 16th, then officially kill it 14 days after the 15th, for all you guys trying to exchange your items obtained on the 15th. In any case, the trade-in deal is YMMV, and exchanging the PSP games is even more YMMV.

Good luck to all of you on the final days of what is sure to be the most memorable, and profitable, trade-in deal of 2005!

Here's the scoop.

EBGames In Store is having an in-store promotion on the preorder/purchase of PSP games that could potentially make your initial launch library damn near free.

Here's the deal......

ebpspfree6ss.jpg

With this deal, gamers need only trade in THREE games not on THIS LIST to receive one of the EIGHT games shown above.

gretzkyfree3al.jpg

For those of you who can put two and two together, understand that when you get the game from EB it bumps the value of each game that might be normally traded in for 50 cents, up to a third of the price of any of those 39.99 games.

Then, with your sealed game in hand, and receipt (or better, gift receipt) for said game, you are not prohibited from later exchanging it for store credit for the full $40 value of the game.

In essence, the deal isn't "just for those 8 PSP games" because you can still exchange any one of them within 14 days of purchase for full credit.

Better yet... get your credit back on a gift card (make sure it has scratch off pin numbers) and use it online.

Above deal ends April 10th.

Sound easy?
Good.

NOTE: Though this isnt a YMMV deal, the clerks all over don't seem to be too refreshed on it... so make sure you're cool with the employees enough to share some patience until they work it out in the computer.

You're right, its quite a shame . . . the more that a deal is exploited (by one person overplaying it to the extreme or by many participating) the more likely it is to end . . . especially when there are loopholes that can be closed.

Like the Hastings thing . . . trade in four games and get a new game. People discover that a group of 3 crap games at Wal-Mart that sell for $10 will qualify . . . suddenly Hastings has 2000 copies of Corvette and not much else and they pull the plug on the promo.

We are our own worst enemy.
Yes I am beginning to think that posting the deal is better than everyone in here blabbing about it....thats how the deals get squashed....my Eb manager says his district manager comes on this site all the time!!! (Ive known the Eb manager for about 10 years) Thats why I never posted about 9 mores holes of golf last year when they were first price dropped .....when everyone in here goes into detail explaining how they want to rip off EB or scam them or names all the cheap titles it is actually hurting us.....posting the deal is a great idea ....explaining it in detail is not.....people should have to do there own homework if you catch my drift....i bet by next week all the titles...pulse racer....metal arms....ect...will be POX

Although I agree with you on a selfish level, I think that it is for the benefit of all that we post as much information and helpfulness on these boards. It will be more helpful to you in the long run as you'll get insight into other deals. However, I do agree that making the information too easy to get to is also problematic. We don't need to always summarize the ins and outs of the entire thread...to make getting the deal too easy. After all, those supposed newbie ignorantly asking "how to get in on the deal" or "what are all the cheapie games" could be EB or whatever merchant in disguise, asking how to squash the deal. In any event, deals come and go...nothing remains secret anymore....etc.

I guess EB finally figured it out with 9 more holes...well they now have more of this game than Blockbuster and this used to be a BB exclusive. It was good while it lasted.

I don't see mentioning certain games and all is that big of a deal. I think it hurts us more when one person brings in 9 copies of the same game to one store. I'm sure once they start piling up in the store it is a sure fire sign to put it on the POX list. Then again if I can bring in 3 $3 games and get a $40 game I would be stupid not to.

That whole district manager comment seems a bit silly to me. Although I'm sure he can make a list of games most of these games will only last for a 2 to 3 week window anyway. The thing that people don't realize is there are always new deals and some start with NO exclusions. Sometimes games also come and go from the POX list. Resident Evil Code Veronica X (PS2) was POX for awhile. Now it isn't.

In Feb. they had the extra $5 in credit for non-sports games and no one tought as good of a deal would come along and then low and behold in the next month the PSP games deal comes along.

As for the whole ripping off the company and scamming them WTF? Everyone ALWAYS SAYS THIS!!! Now when you go to say BEST BUY and buy 3 games regardless of the price they are YOUR GAMES YOU OWN THEM! If EB wants to offer a deal to get people into the store then I will come in and trade in the 3 games for a new PSP game. If you trade them in for something not within the 8 games that is a different story. However why are these 8 games the only ones offered? Why can't any $40 game be had for said 3 games? Oh because basically they get these games for cheaper and probably make more on each of them when they sell them for $40. So if I buy this game at $40 am I getting ripped off?

The only other thing is this. EB cries foul when someone wants to take advantage of THEIR own trade-in deals but what about every single day when they take your game and give you $0.50 or $1.00? Why don't we cry foul? What about when someone buys a NEW game in store and they hand you a display copy that was opened? What about when you buy a NEW game online and you get an obvious resealed one? Let's not forget the story where EB made a kid buy back his PS2 that was stolen and sold to EB. EB isn't that great of a store. The customer service sucks and they are looking to make a quick buck at every corner. The problem is EB doesn't like intelligent consumers.

I don't think any corporation likes intelligent consumers. I gotta say that customer service really depends on the hired individual. at the 14th st Union Square, NY, Ebgames, I traded in 12 different games. the employee there was reminding me how I was holding up the line every 5 minutes. he also didn't really want to give me the trade 3 get free psp game deal because he acted like he couldn't get it working. at last one other employee told him to split the games into groups of 3. I felt extremely unwelcomed and you can be sure that I will never go back to that EB again.

As I said, I'm not a moral crusader . . . but it seems to me that EB needs to get some value from these trades.

I don't believe in crapping in the pool that I'm swimming in . . . I've traded in a bunch of relatively cool games along with some crude. When I traded in Jampacks in January I was did it with a halfway decent game.

So, I think its kinda cool to see my copy of Grabbed by the Ghoulies at the store . . . some kid may want to buy it and there it is.

I would think the thing that drives a POX fastest is when people are cycling games through . . . buy 3 games . . . return them for more . . . rebuy them and return them for more.

I also guess that employees do this, say through a proxy.

Obviously, you could build up $1000 in credit very quickly doing this.

I agree with you 100%. We don't design these deals, EB does, and then they look surprised when we follow through with it. There obviously aren't that many people taking advantage of the deals, or they would pull them early. Plus, I don't know how many times I have come in for a particular deal and the CSR doesn't know about it or how to do it. If these deals were overwhelming, I would think all the CSR's would know to hit F12 or whatever it is.

I'm not bashing EB at all, I am thankful they are here and have such great deals. :)

As we all know, none of these deals last forever, so, take advantage of them while they are here and wait for the next one. :)
If EB is getting ripped off, then why did they come up with this deal?
this was answered many pages ago....

but honestly... this thread is so big....
and the deal is so good...
it just doesnt matter anymore.

get your games while you still can.

Nicely said. People can debate all they want. Just get your stuff and be happy with it.
If EB is getting ripped off, then why did they come up with this deal?
They're not . . . not overall. Most of the games that traded in will sell for as much or more than I got . . . plus you're getting credit which increases their sales and bottom line.

Its just the galling excesses that they will need to curb.
Is Aquaman (Xbox) POX now? The list says no, but I just got turned down...though the guy seemed like an ass. Can anyone confirm this?
Aquaman worked for me several weeks ago, but it may be one of those new converts to the POX list.

I agree with jkam that trading in 9 of the same game at a time hurts us more than posting on this forum. If one district manager reads this then good for him and bad for his district, but if guys all over the country are attemtping to pull of the old "9 at once" trick, then EB's are alerted all over the place. I just feel this is worse for us in the long run.

I don't think its too hard to come up with three stacks of cheap games as opposed to just one stack of one game. If we mixed them up and traded them in three at a time I bet these games would stay PO longer. Just my two cents.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned,

Today I called my EB to double check if they knew about the PSP sale. The guy was nice and told me that "they" actually extended it to the 15th. Anybody want to confirm this?

The website lists the 15th as well.

Huh? Great deals? Well this makes up for only some of the people that they ripped off in the past. Come on.

You constantly hear about people going to EB Games, trading in a bunch of stuff and getting absolutely nothing. They've been ripping people off for years.

I now sense the power of the dark side . . .

Syphon Filter sells for $7.99 or $7.30 after edge . . . nets $13.30 after tradein. $6 profit to sell them their own game.

Malice PS2 $4.99 new . . . buying games at EB with EB credit and trading them in for more EB credit. You really are only limited by the embarrasment of it all.

I did one set today:

Malice
Wolfenstein xbox
F-Zero

I agree, they have been ripping people off. But, if your a CAG and well informed, you can turn the tables on them. No one forced people to trade at the low prices. There's no way I would take ten games in and get like .50 each for them.

I think they understand the psychology of people . . . when you've decided to get rid of a game, you don't really want to take it home again. That's why some accept such ridiculous prices for tradein . . .

Well I was able to get two more games today:

Deal 1...traded in the following:

Rayman 3 GC - Paid $17 for a while ago.
Billy Hatcher GC - Traded some old PC games for it...I'd say they cost me $5 at most
Future Tatics Xbox - $3-4 at Gamecrazy

Picked up Ape Escape

Deal 2...traded in the following:
Return to Castle Wolfenstein Xbox - $8 at Gamestop
Godzilla GC - Got in a trade a while ago...probably cost me a couple bucks
ICO PS2 - $10 at Gamestop

Picked up Twisted Metal

So, everything cost me about $60 and I got $120 worth of stuff. It was a little more than I thought I was going to spend, but I'm happy with the results. I'm done searching around...unless I find a ton of cheap PO games by accident, I won't be getting any more.

Thanks CAG :)

You sure Xbox Exhibition Demo 3 are still PO? I heard they weren't. If so that's great news because I have two copies of them. I'm going to EB today and trade in around 6 games or so.

Yeah...I got Wipeout yesterday. Got the other two today.

Can anyone verify if these still (or ever) work?

PS2
Haven
Warjetz

GC
Rebel Strike Demo Disc

Xbox
X-Arcade

Well, I'm a new user, I just wanted to say hi first of all.

I've compiled a list of games I've seen seem to still be PO, just thought some of you might find it handy. Here it is!

Enter the Matrix (PS2)
Jak and Daxter (PS2)
Hitman Contracts (PS2)
Syphon Filter (PS2)
Outlaw Golf (PS2)
Quake 3 (PS2)
Metal Arms (PS2)
Rygar (PS2)

Return to Castle Wolfenstein (XB)
Aquaman (XB)
Pulse Racer (XB)

Godzilla (GC)
Cubix (GC)
Aquaman (GC)
Virtua Striker (GC)

This is what I have until now. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

^hi and welcome to CheapAss gamer! It's great to see someone one contributing. I've been a member since September and just started contributing (well a little bit).

When I return from EB I'll let everyone know which games work.

damn it, the EB cashier was being an ass, I just returned some could be elgible demo games, because I thought they wouldn't be accepted. The first store I hit up didn't even scan the games, he just looked through the 3 game pile, and said that the games won't work. In the other EB, the cashier said that he wouldn't accept my exhibition disks (vol. 5 + 7) or an elgible Jampack vol. because they were "demos". Plus he even mentioned how buying games from any other EB store and trading it back in into the company, or another store "like this" is an example of fraud, and could get me in some trouble. If that worried so much to him, I would've just ripped ripped off the EB stickers, so they could just tape them back on again, because I own the games already once it was out of their store, into my hands, and it shouldn't matter how I got them, or what I do with them. It isn't a crime to take advantage of the deals your given advantage of, but sometimes they give lame excuses for not taking in deals, supposedly being hidden somewhere in the fine print. Its just like trading in 3 games, and those 3 games being elgible for one of the promotions they are honoring.. now that I think of it, I should've kicked down their magazine stand!

On a different note, does anybody know if Astro Boy, Cubix: Showdown, and Rygar: The Legendary Adventure all for the PS2 system still work for this promotion? I could rip off the Returnable Within 14 Days If Seal Is Not Broken stickers out on the side of the game cases before trading them in, if they're so uptight about customers working their system. They were all labeled [PO] on the receipt next to the name of the games.

One store I went to today refused to take Cubix because it wasn't in the system, or so he claimed. So I'm not sure if thats true?

I can confirm that as of today the 3 $5 Best Buys PS2 Games (Operation: Dsert Storm, Bad Boys and Metal Arms) are still alive and well. Just traded in 2 setsat my local EB in Texas.

You're very welcome. Hope everything goes down well. I haven't tried this myself but I do know most of the emlpoyees at my local EB and get alone great with all of them. This will get me my so desired PSP and a few extra bucks for future games, so I know how it feels to wait. Again, you're welcome and enjoy!

Yup I am from gamefaqs! :)

Anyways in a few minutes I am going to Best Buy to buy some $10 games. I'm gonna take some friends with me that way we can buy the $10 games with the coupons and Best Buy won't say anything about it. lol.

I'll get Five $5 games at Best Buy. I have 4 other PO games. So that would make 9 games = 3 PSP games at EB. Which is great!

Is it true the promotion ends on the 15th? If so that's even better!

ok, I just got back the EB Games. As of today, April 6, 2005,

PS2
Rygar: The Legendary Adventure - $7.99 @ EB
Cubix: Showdown - $7.99 @ EB
Astro Boy - $7.99 @ EB

are still ELGIBLE

Since EB doesn't update their exclusion list of excluded games on their site very often, someone or I could gather all the information acquired from all the posts, and list just the games that are excluded, but aren't on their page (yet), like Outlaw Golf: 9 More Holes of X-Mas, and some newly POX titles.

Promotion does indeed, end on Friday, the 15th now.
One store I went to today refused to take Cubix because it wasn't in the system, or so he claimed. So I'm not sure if thats true?
you got bs'ed. when you go again, show him that it is indeed PO, or tell him to "key" this in:

PO-Cubix: SHWD PS2 «--- (or for Gamecube)
2407534 522/530 (I don't know what 522/530 means, but that may be something else)

If he gives you more bs, tell him to call some other EB games, because they can confirm on the phone. Otherwise, that employee is a douchebag.

I grabbed a couple of games from Best Buy but it took forever for the cashiers to take the 5 bucks off. They were confused and it didn't automatically deduct the 5 bucks from the price. Has anyone else experienced this? I was able to trade in Conflict Desert Storm and Metal Arms but Cabella's Deer Hunter didn't work. Suprisingly though Rocky worked.

I totally agree with you! Some of these EB games clerks are straight A--Holes! I called an EB that I normally do not go to and asked if they had Digital Devil Saga and the Echo Night game that gets $$$ trade value at gamerush. He told me he had 2 copies of Echo Night and 3 of DDS. So I asked him to hold them for me for 1 hour. He was cool and said he would put them behind the counter.

I come up there a half hour later and the same A--hole hands me an opened copy of DDS and 1 opened Echo Night. I asked him if he held 2 copies for me and he was like, no we sold the other copy. Already getting pissed, he rings up the open copy of DDS and I look at him with this funny look because there are 2 sealed ones on the shelf. Luckily the manager comes over and grabs a sealed copy and switches the 2 and told the clerk to ring up the new one. Oh well, hope a CAG got the other Echo Night.

Kind of didn't make me feel so bad when I traded him back a Wipeout Pure w/ gift receipt from the trade-in deal. I hope everybody in here stacks them up with crap games every time they start a trade-in deal!
I grabbed a couple of games from Best Buy but it took forever for the cashiers to take the 5 bucks off. They were confused and it didn't automatically deduct the 5 bucks from the price. Has anyone else experienced this? Metal Arms worked like a charm for me, they just scanned the coupon, and deducted $5 off. Cabella's Deer Hunter though, the cashier had to take off $5 manually, and made me sign some big yellow paper, and stapled a scan/print of it to my receipt.
