(Deal Dead, Discussion Dying) Free PSP Games @ EB (w/select PS2/XBX/GC Trade-ins)

AnthonyRoundtree

CAGiversary!
Update: 4/16/05

Ths deal is now dead.
Go home... the party is over.

What's that? You wanna be the weird guy that hangs out after the party to talk about how cool the party was even though you were also the guy everyone at the party was trying to get away from?

Fine.... We'll say open for ya... BUT NO STICKY FOR YOU!

Thanks to everyone.... and don't forget.... now that you've gotten an entire library of PSP games for damn near free... don't forget to at least say hi to your DS once in a while.....

Your DS misses you....

Toodles!

UPDATE 4/11/05: As some of you may know... this deal advertised as "3 Trades for 1 PSP Game" is over as of 4/10. However, EBGames.com indicates that the deal is still fresh until the 15th, but you must trade in 6 for 2 games in one transaction in order for it to work.

Under In-Store Promotions, EBGames.com reads:
"Free select PSP title with PS2/XB/GC game trade-in (pre-purchase) Active: Now - 4/15/2005
Trade-in 6 qualifying pre-played PS2/XB/GC games and receive $79.98 towards the pre-purchase of 2 of the following titles: GRETZKY NHL HOCKEY PSP or TWISTED METAL: HEAD ON PSP or WORLD TOUR SOCCER PSP or ATV OFFRD FURY BLAZIN TRLS PSP or APE ESCAPE PSP or NBA PSP or WIPEOUT PURE PSP or MLB PSP. Game boxes and instructions are required. Some titles are excluded from trade. May be combined with other EB Promotions. Typographical errors are not the responsibility of EB Games. Not valid on hardware. See sales associate for complete details. Customer may be responsible for sales tax."

Some stores may or may not honor this promo, and some stores may still let you only trade in 3 for 1. Regardless, we'll keep this thread stickied until the 16th, then officially kill it 14 days after the 15th, for all you guys trying to exchange your items obtained on the 15th. In any case, the trade-in deal is YMMV, and exchanging the PSP games is even more YMMV.

Good luck to all of you on the final days of what is sure to be the most memorable, and profitable, trade-in deal of 2005!
Here's the scoop.

EBGames In Store is having an in-store promotion on the preorder/purchase of PSP games that could potentially make your initial launch library damn near free.

Here's the deal......

ebpspfree6ss.jpg

With this deal, gamers need only trade in THREE games not on THIS LIST to receive one of the EIGHT games shown above.

gretzkyfree3al.jpg

For those of you who can put two and two together, understand that when you get the game from EB it bumps the value of each game that might be normally traded in for 50 cents, up to a third of the price of any of those 39.99 games.

Then, with your sealed game in hand, and receipt (or better, gift receipt) for said game, you are not prohibited from later exchanging it for store credit for the full $40 value of the game.

In essence, the deal isn't "just for those 8 PSP games" because you can still exchange any one of them within 14 days of purchase for full credit.

Better yet... get your credit back on a gift card (make sure it has scratch off pin numbers) and use it online.

Above deal ends April 10th.

Sound easy?
Good.

NOTE: Though this isnt a YMMV deal, the clerks all over don't seem to be too refreshed on it... so make sure you're cool with the employees enough to share some patience until they work it out in the computer.

But Joystickz says you can ask for gift reciepts which would make it much simpler.

.
I thought about the gift receipts after I read the back of the receipt and already traded for 3 psp games. so now i have 3 with areceipt a 3 with receipt and gift one.thinking of how to unload the former.

I finally got in this deal. Unfortunately, EB had all of their copies of Twisted Metal: HO open for display. Don't really care though since I wasn't going to return the game to another store for credit. Traded in Metal Gear Substance 2(Xbox version, not the rare PS2), Midnight Club II(PS2), and Def Jam Vendetta(PS2). :D
EBGames has my name, phone number, and address.

I give it to them every time i do trade-ins... and every time i do exchanges.

If they have a problem with me... they can call me.

If they had a problem... they wouldnt accept anything.

You think they don't know that a small amount of customers are making out on this deal?

.....please.

If they HAD a problem with it.... this deal would be over by now....

maybe you didnt read Gamespot's EBGames CEO interview...
and if you did read it... maybe you didnt read between the lines...
lemme find it.
Not you Joystickz. I'm talking about the braggarts taking their games elsewhere, much like was written after my rhetoric. Again, not casting judgments or what-not...just think that it is more than inappropriate talk for a respectful and legal CAG forum that we've always had here. Finding the loopholes is all good. If EB really cared about this, they'd have a more accurate POX list and would require you to open your games right there and then with any trade-in deal, so that a swap later wouldn't occur. The loopholes are what we CAG live for...committing fraud is not what being a CAG is, at its core, about.

its all good man.
its all good.

speaking of the POX list.... i wonder just when they'll put it back up online.....?

This got me thinking of purging some games now . . .

SSX3 (Xbox $4 Target sealed)
Manhunt (PS2 $5 Target sealed)
RE CVX (PS2 free TRU coupon)
Hitman 2 (PS2 $2 TRU)
Godzilla DAMM (Xbox $10 done with)
Ty (Xbox $5 CC done)
Panzer Dragoon ($6 Shopko trade copy)
Mega Man Collection ($15 Target raincheck man they screwed up the control)
Rayman 3 ($8 Half-Price books done)
Crash Bandicoot Wrath (PS2 $5 Best Buy done)
Wallace and Gromit (GC $5 CC sale sucks)

Considering:
True Crime (Xbox $10 didn’t get into . . .)
Gladius (Xbox got from a trade)
Toe Jam and Earl (traded for . . . is it worth anything?)

I have mamy other games that I don't have time for . . . 12 of these would bring $160 in credit . . . very tempting.

One more BB to try and maybe Best Buy to still try to find $5 games that would work as well . . .
and that comes out to how many % off? Better than paying full price.
Yeah, past a certain point I realized I'm only saving at best 30 around bucks, I didn't think of the gift receipt thing in time though.

I kinda want to keep both games however and I'm going to do the rebate for them, photocopies of everything of course...

Do you guys think Darkstalkers, Ridge Racer, or Lumines is better than Wipeout or TM? I love Capcom and their fighters but darkstalkers isn't exactly one of my fav's, I loved TM2 and black ~ but no one ever wanted to play with me, I liked ridge racer 1 and 4 but I think im GT4ed for now, and had fond memories of wipeout. I don't even have a PSP yet ;) God somebody needs to find a PSP cheapass deal.

I'm BACK!!!!

I spent a total of $7 + my old games = 7 games

I recieved 2 PSP games, Twisted Metal and Wipeout and $3.40 on my edge card

I brought 1 backup, but all games worked fine, and $10 for DOA:U didn't seem to bad

I did afterwords go to BB and try to get another cheap game

I found 5 copies of Outlaw Golf: 9 more holes of xmas

I bought 3

Went to different EB to try to trade in and they said no duplicates, but they checked and it is PO!!!!

So I plan to go to Target and Gamestop tomorrow to see what Cheap Ass Games I can find.

Thank you Joystick.

And everyone else who helped me in this deal!

I also found Room Zoom at BBfor 9.99, but sadly I don't have a FYE
I'm BACK!!!!

Trade it in at Wherehouse (there are a ton of these in CA) for $19.00 Cash or $26.00 credit.

I mean $7 so just in case one of my games didn't work, I got Black and bruised right before I traded in for $7.

I had my old games:
MArio Golf: TT GC
ESPN NFL 2k5 XB
PGR2 XB
Capcom Vs SNK 2EO XB
SW:CW/Tetris XB
and DOA:U alone for $10

I'm not familiar with this? Is it a Northern CA place?
Yeah, past a certain point I realized I'm only saving at best 30 around bucks, I didn't think of the gift receipt thing in time though.

That was exactly my dilemma (except for Lumines, which I don't care about.) I definitely would say that Darkstalkers and Ridge Racer are the better games by far. Ridge Racer is awesome because it's so arcadey with its powersliding mechanics. The game is a lot better than Wipeout IMO. Twisted Metal... eh, I've always hated the series... everything about it just feels mediocre. Darkstalkers... I didn't like it when I first played it in the arcade, but finally getting a chance to improve my skills on the PSP has shown that it's definitely a fighting game worth getting. It's really really good once you get used to how it plays.

Metal Gear Acid is also really really good. It's turn based strategy done very well.

So, does anyone know if xbox exhibition discs work or not even though they’re demos? I’ve read that the jampacks don’t work.

Also, can you return the psp games (w/gift receipt) AFTER the promotion and still get the full 40.00 store credit?
YOU KNOW....

this reminds me.....

EVERYONE LISTEN UP!

When you trade-in three games at EB... and get the Free PSP game.... be SURE to also ask for a gift receipt.

This make exchanging back at EB infinately better since the receipt doesnt say how the item was paid for.

Ya dig?
Damn...

You guys are right though, what I did was fraud. That's probably why they've figured me out. I got what I deserved... I'm going to b*tch and moan until EB gives me an exchange or eBay 'em. OR I'll just give away my PSP games for getting me referrals for those sign up for a free DS/PSP/iPod/etc.:D
No, they have alot in SoCal too. Seeing that you are in Santa Clarita, which is kinda of far from Los Angeles, that's probably why you haven't heard of them, but you got one about 9 miles from you in San Fernando and a couple more within 20 miles of Santa Clarita.

Ok, are you familiar with the Burbank one? I used to live there and my mom goes there at least a couple times a week, she owns property there, so is this a good one?

Well everything worked out fine after I found an eb that was down even though the games were from a promo. I got the psp, warranty, wipeout pure, lumines and metal gear acid for about $130 out of pocket. Sorry about bringing up trying to return stuff at other stores. (I was worried as hell) I would make sure anyone that is still gonna hit this deal to make sure to get a gift receipt. It sure whould have made my day easier. Now I just hope there will be a deal close to this anytime during the psp's life.
Peace

You get $19 cash for room zoom???

do they let you sell them multiple copies??

NOW you tell us about the gift receipt thing... #@$@#!@%!!!

now ive gotta bust my balls to get these games returned instead of letting them sit there forever.

You shouldn't need a gift receipt, but it could make it easier.

If you have the game sealed, and the receipt, there really is nothing they can do if you want to return it. Simple as that.

I was running these promo deals in late Dec. Then it was 4 games to get a $50 EA games title then (Goldeneye, Need Speed . . .) so it was $12.50 per PO game traded in . . . I had a bunch of TRU stuff, so I did it 4-5 times in about a week. Bought Steel Battalion with part of the proceeds.

Two area EBs (Hwy 100 and 27th St) would not return them. Brookfield and Racine took them no problem . . . strange.

My argument was and I would say if I were you guys is "no where in this deal or on my receipt does it say that I can't return these games for store credit and I know that others EBs do take them back."

I'm definitely going to do the gift receipt from now on.

Is Disaster Report still PO because my EB had it for $5

Has anyone tried trading in Twisted Metal Black Online? It's not on the exclusion list but I know it says not for resale on the package.

Thanks for the deal. I got in really late since I was busy working the Hastings deal (no regrets).

Last night I traded in:

Outlaw Golf: 9 More Holes of XMas x3 (2.99 at BB / B2G1)
Hitman Contracts Xbox (14.99 at BB / B2G1)
Hitman Contracts PS2 (9.99 at BB / B2G1)
Driv3r (9.99 at BB / B2G1)
Rygar x2 ($10 new at Wal-Mart)
Dark Cloud 2 x2 ($10 new at Wal-Mart)
Grabbed by the Ghoulies (12.99 at EB / B2G1 at a new store)
Future Tactics Xbox (5.99 at EB / B2G1 at a new store)

And picked up Lumines, Ape Escape, TM, and Wipeout Pure

Doing another run today. I'm spending between 15-30 for each PSP game. Not as "free" as some other folks are getting (I don't have access to the inventory that some of you do) but not bad either. Going to go to get Ridge Racer at least. Hopefully enough cred to buy that sweet Ace Combat 5 bundle for $100.

It looks like EB is raising the prices on some of their games. WTA Tennis (PS2) went from $4.99 on Wed. to $7.99 and Battle Engine Aqila went up but the manager gave it to me at $4.99 since that was the sticker price.

I haven't been to the Burbank store but my advice is to checkout wherehouse.com for tade in values and then try to find a couple more cheap games with good trade in values so you have other games besides Room Zoom to trade in before you go, because if the store has too many copies of the game they won't accept it.

You should also check out the FYE Thread, cause FYE and Wherehouse are basically the same (own by the same parent company). And will you get alot more info from that thread:

Agreed ..i have know my Eb manager friend for 10 years or so...he never says a thing...once I own it I can return it if i want...

As far as people returning games to other Stores...well if its not opened (and you didnt use a resealer or shrink wrapper to reseal it) and policy permits a return for an unopened game w/o a reciept, well then its not fraud....now if you resealing games, copying and switching out or you work at a gameing or electronic store and are abusing the policy to your advantage thats a different story......a deals a deal folks....if it falls into another stores policy and it works, well then they should change their policy...plain & simple

Its probably not a good idea to trade in more than one copy of a game at time, that looks kind of suspicious.

Happened to me, too. Battle Engine Aquila scanned in for $9.99, but the manager let me have it for the sticker price after fooling with the register a bit.

What a waste of time . . . hit 2 more BlockBusters, a GS, and Best Buy . . . found nothing. I did see $10 Metal Arms PS2 . . . so I was going to try the $5 off coupon . . . but I forgot to bring it . . . Doh!

I saw stuff like Driv3r but mostly at $14.99 . . . spending $30 to get $40 is not worth it.

I finally saw an Outlaw Golf Xtra holes at GS . . . $6.99 . . . not much of a bargain if its not a slam dunk for the deal.

Traffic sucked . . . I made a stop at Goodwill and saw a Dreamcast . . . but it was $25 and there were no games in sight.

I did trade in 12 games for what will be $160 in credit:
SSX3 (Xbox $4 Target sealed)
Manhunt (PS2 $5 Target sealed)
RE CVX (PS2 free TRU coupon)
Hitman 2 (PS2 $2 TRU)
Godzilla DAMM (Xbox $10 done with)
Ty (Xbox $5 CC done)
Panzer Dragoon ($6 Shopko trade copy)
Mega Man Collection ($15 Target raincheck man they screwed up the control)
Rayman 3 ($8 Half-Price books done)
Crash Bandicoot Wrath (PS2 $5 Best Buy done)
Wallace and Gromit (GC $5 CC sale, it sucks)
True Crime (Xbox $10 didn’t get into . . .)

So, about $75 outlay to get $160 . . . but since I played most of these, I feel like I made out even better!

Maybe I should get a DS?

Ok, I hid them behind some games towards the left side of the preowned gasmes, and It's the one on mcbean by the pet store and ralphs

My BB had Hitman Contracts and Siphon Filters for $10 each. Plus, they had the buy 2, get 1 free!:D Look for this PS2 game called Cubix... It's $5 and PO! I could only find one copy so that was a loss on my part. And yes, get a DS... The upcoming games for it should be sweet!

Oh yeah, I traded in three more games and got a gift receipt this time.:)

And my brother took the extra games I and he has a friend who works at an EB around his home who said that he could excange the PSP games for another PSP game as long as the two games are the same price. He's buying my copy of Ape Escape from me and exchanging it for MGS Acid. And he's buying a copy of Wipeout Pure and Twisted Metal.:D That reduces some trouble for me.
Lol, are you joking. That piece of crap has nothing good on it and nothing good coming out.
I'm not hot about the PSP . . . the price is too steep . . . but I'm sure I'll have one in a year or two.

I would like to get an GB SP . . . mostly to play the better GBA games that I've missed out on the last few years (2D stuff like Metroid, Castlevania). But with this windfall spending $150 (vs. 80 for SP) is less of an issue. I would likely play mostly GB games on it . . .

Got in again today:

Had:
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance (Promotional) $0.01 (Circuit City)
Sly Cooper $9 (Played through it done with it)

Picked up 2 9 More Holes Xmas Outlaw Golfs (XBOX) $6.34 (They only had them NEW for $2.99)
Picked up 2 Bloodraynes (XBOX) TRU $8.44

Total Cost $23.79
Total Made $80.00

Profit: $56.21

One EB wouldn't take the promotional MK but the other did. IT SO DEPENDS ON WHO YOU GET BEHIND THE COUNTER! Picked up Wipeout and Twisted Metal and got gift receipts (Great idea !!!) I will return them for THUG 2 and something else. Great deal.
what's this promotional MK you speak of?
It is the full version of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. It was given away with PSI-OPS when you purchased it on release. Much like the Prince of Persia\ Splinter Cell awhile back. The only difference is it says Promotional not for resale on the cover and that is why one EB wouldn't take it.

The second week that PSI-OPS was out Circuit City just had these MK's marked as a penny and put them out on the shelf. I even remember when I went to the counter with 2 of them the lady said you know this isn't the full game right. So I laughed on the inside and said yeah but they are good for the cases. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This pisses me off :) My BBs had nothing--I would have been overjoyed to pick up some cheapies to trade in . . . and I tried to get in on the MK DA thing at the time and failed . . . of course I shouldn't talk so smart, I got a bunch of stuff at the CC $5 sale last summer.

once again...

everybody wins!
Sony, retailers, and CAGers!

ok, so after about an hour at target and gamestop(same shopping center) I found nothing so I went to Blockbuster again, and picked up the following:

Battle Engine Aquilla $9.99
Hitman Contracts $9.99
Room Zoom Free

So I'm gonna hit EB again tomorrow because it was too late and trade those along with my other Outlaw Golf games in. And you're sure Wherehouse will take room zoom for $19? My mom said she knows where it is.

And to Ugamer: They still have the other two outlaw golfs if you want them. I didn't pick em up because I knew you're looking for them :D

do you guys think nba jam(xbox) would work? i know ps2 version is not... btw my near blockbuster had alot of copies of nba jam(xbox) 6.99 and manhunt(ps2)9.99 so should i get them all and run to EB? lol
