December 2006 Backwards Compatiblity Update (Live, now with 100% more Conker/SCII)
So who here is going to be the guinea pig and try out SC: Double Agent? After hearing about the original xbox version having so many differences I'm considering selling my 360 version (which I already played through once) and buyin' the xbox version instead of giving the 360 one a 2nd playthrough. I'd just like to know if the emulation runs well or not though first...
I'll let you know in a bit, now that I'm done with a marathon week of fucking copyediting.

I'm sure it will run the same as the other SC titles, but to be sure, I'll put it in once I can get my wife away from Animal Planet.

In the meantime, I'm gonna keep playing SC: Essentials and wonder why the game got such dogballs for ratings.
$17.99 is way too much money to pay for it, imo, espically since I haven't paid more than $10 for any Xbox game yet (and I own some of the best ones so far, imo).

I think I'll actually hit up some pawn shops to find it for $10 and under.
I can knock it down just a tad with my Edge card, but it may be better if I do the upcoming B2G1, as long as I can find Conker and Psychonauts. I would probably add Doom 3 Collectors to that for a third game. It would add up to just a little over $10 for each, assuming the Edge card can be stacked.
I'm definitely getting it for $6, espically since someone in here also confirmed you can do Japanese voices with subtitles on the Xbox version.

Let's see, do I keep my pain in the ass European import for Dreamcast that I never bother to hook up and play, or do I get it for $6 at EB and run it in 480p?

WOW, tough decision!

It also has that disc that sums up Shenmue 1, right?
I don't think there is Japanese dialogue in the game. If there's an option to switch to it, I can't find it.

it does have a Shenmue 1 movie with it. haven't checked it out yet myself.
I'm surprised Splinter Cell: Double Agent is on that list, I mean, with there being a 360 version out.
I'm thinking the same exact thing for Far Cry Instincts.............. Atleast make the Evolution version B/C if your going to add something to the list.

Played Psychonauts for a while. The videos play kinda rough (a little stuttering & tearing) and after I beat "Basic Braining" The texture on Raz's clothing got messed up and turned blue. Otherwise the game plays great.

I have...it's an interesting watch to say the least :D

Just picked up Soul Calibur II ($11 shipped) and Mech Assault 2:Lone Wolf ($6 after shipping) both found on pricegrabber and then bought em on Amazon marketplace. Both sellers had excellent ratings and they say I'll get my games in four days, not bad. I wish they'd bring Mech Assault 2 on the list but I still got my xbox hooked up to my pc.

Double Agent works perfectly through the first level. Like any SC game, there's an awful long (~90 seconds) load time before the game starts up (not between levels, though).

No problems with it at all, and for an Xbox game that doesn't support HDTV (and this may be a testament to the 360's upscaling capabilities), the game looks simply fucking amazing on the 360. Gorgeous textures, the lighting effects as good as ever...

Regretfully, I have not played the 360 version, so I can't offer any comparisons to that version. I will say that the original works wonderfully (so far) on the 360.

Good to hear, I'll probably swap out my 360 version for the original xbox version then, seeing as how my Halo Edition one is no longer with the living. Graphics don't even concern me really (though def. not a bad thing either), I just want to experience the difference in play. I just hope the wonderful performance doesn't crap out in the later levels like some other BC games (pre-updated Half-Life 2 I'm looking at you especially...).
shucks... still waiting on the other Prince of Persia games. :(
Me too! I hope these are in the next update.

woot soul calibur 2 = sweetness. I think that and Halo 2 were the only games I cared about getting backwards compatability.

Same here, I just checked and there doesnt seem to be an option for the Japanese dialogue.

I also tried Buffy and it was pretty good. There were some minor lag though when you either enter a new area or there were a lot of characters on the screen at once.

I know a few people benefitted from me telling them Psychonauts is now $3 on clearance at K-Mart (YMMV on if they updated the price in the computer though) but here is another deal on a BC game that just went up people rave about.

Indigo Prophecy is $4 for Xbox if you can find it at K-Mart. I picked myself up one today.

hopefully this B2G1 at EB is for real, cause I just picked up Psychonauts, SC2 and Shenmue. works out to about $8 per game. not too shabby.

Went out and rented Scarface. It runs good, only times when there was major lag/slowdown was either in a huge battle with tons of people on the screen at once or when you're driving out in the streets.

Played a bit of soul calibur 2. Of course Soul Calibur 2 was one of the only handful of Xbox games that actually had 720p. unfortunetly it was not widescreen which is much sadness =(. However the graphics hold up very well ;)

Rumble doesn't work anymore with SC2 though and there was some slowdown when I was fighting Ivy in the Library level.

Having bought Psychonauts for 10 dollars back in October under the assumption that it would soon BC, I've very pleased.

Although I'd heard good things, so far the game is even better than I expected. It appears to have held up very well.
Damn, I wish all you people had bought the game when it first came out. Then maybe we'd have a sequel...
On the flipside though many people are getting the game from $3 to $10, and Tim Schaffer himself hyped the game up big time in his quest to get it BC. I say the quest to get the game backwards compatible was a better and more effective advertising campaign than the game ever had.

I know that me, personally, bought it just to see what it was all about since it had to be decent since the guy went to great lengths to convince people and MS to get it BC.

Alot of these copies are still being bought brand new so a sequel may show up, espicially if the game has a sudden surge in sales due to being BC.
I say the quest to get the game backwards compatible was a better and more effective advertising campaign than the game ever had.
Sad, but true. Games like Psychonauts and Shenmue are probably unheard of to the many of the mainstream Xbox'ers out there until the latest BC news update.

Psychonauts is amazing. I'm glad all you 360-only owners are now able to enjoy it. Although not a difficult game, the sense of style, humor, and voice acting are amazing. It's actually the first game I bought with my original billybox back in February. =]

so is the overall consensus, Soul Calibur 2 plays well on the 360?

I am thinking about picking it up this weekend for $7.99 at EB this weekend. I already have it for GC, but what the hell.

How does this work?!

I've played my 360 for a few days already..and I never been prompted for an update.

Do I have to actually insert an Xbox game in for it to be prompt..?

hey, at least you get Spawn.

Just played Soul Calibur 2 and its runny perfectly, this is great since I bought it online for around 11 bucks after shipping. This is great to have my own copy now as I've always just played my roomate's copy but Im not in school anymore.

it most certainly does not run "perfectly"

There is no rumble.
and there is slowdown in certain levels.

Found some spots where the sound gets choppy (or drops out altogether) in Shenmue 2. Doesn't seem to affect the dialogue.

Well I wouldn't consider no rumble affecting how the game runs on the 360 and I haven't gotten any slowdown yet and I beat the arcade mode with my main man Spawn.

I went to EBGames and picked up Shenmue II again for $5.99. I loved playing through this and the original when they first came out. Hopefully it will still be fun since I forget most of the game.

Conkers is running poorly. I have had it freeze on me a few times. I got up the the robot hay stack and kicked his ass. This game is way easier with the X360 controller. So much fun.

Ninja Gaiden Black runs excellent with no problems whatsoever. Shenmue II has some minor audio glitches but that's about it.
anyway to get these games in widescreen?
o no.. do these games not run in wide screen? do we have to mess with our display settings again?

bread's done
