Moose - no more hope for me this week. I'm tapped out on the Raid. RNG does seem a little kinder in that I have gotten every normal (ie, non-Helm) Raid piece after 4 tries with each character. Though, in retrospect, I had most of it by that point in VoG too... I was just missing a few oddballs in VoG like the Warlock chest that I didn't get till right before Crota came out (but at that point I had all the hard mode helms so that was OK).

I was out for a few hours - finally got in on the Microsoft Store trade-in deal. (In case you guys haven't seen it, it is like the one this summer where you can trade pretty much any old 360/PS3 games and get $10 each. But this time you have to buy something in store instead of a preorder. I got Far Cry 4 and DA:I which I then traded to Best Buy... I used $19 worth of games from Gamestop to make the trades.).

I'm going to hop on if anyone is still around for Nightfall/Weekly. I don't need the Nightfall but I think I have some bounties related to it so could help someone if they want. Definitely want to do the Weekly though (x 3).

Just finished helping some people do the Nightfall and Weekly. Man, the regular Weekly is such a pain after doing the Nightfall. Not having that solar burn makes it take forever to get Omnigull.
 
Went in for the first Crota chest while waiting for my buddies to get on. I got the No Land Beyond sniper -____- dont think I'll EVER use that. 

 
Now I only 20 Shards to hit 32 on my Hunter.  Definitely going to be trying to get my Titan up to par for next week so that can happen.  I don't think this week is going to be possible at all.  I lack 33 light boots (I got Gloves from the Vanguard level up this morning on my Hunter).  Hopefully my next Vanguard level up from my Warlock nets boots now!  That or a legendary boot engram would work just fine. But the Cryptarch hates me.

Those of you with a Black Hammer, should I save my Energy to convert to shards?  Or should I just level the damn thing up?

 
^ I would definitely level up Black Hammer. I don't have Hunger of Crota yet, but I think this is the best Raid weapon. The perk for getting the magazine refilled after 3 rapid critical shots is awesome for certain bosses. Last week on Nexus you could just keep firing at it indefinitely without running out of ammo. It is definitely a good alternate for Ice Breaker. Black Hammer is allowing me to use Gjallahorn more often (since it frees up that exotic slot from IB).

I'm going to wait to see what Xur has for new exotics and then decide then which one to max out. My Warlock would be low on disc as well, but not nearly as bad - if I can get a helm that is disc instead of strength like the one I have now I will probably get her to 32.

Not really - you are lucky to have pulled any exotic from that chest. I usually get the 2 mats and nothing else. Out of 12 tries, I've gotten 2 exotics and 1 class item. The other 9 times were just 2 shards or energy.

I got an extra Suros and Plan C from the first chest this week :D. Pulled 2 gauntlets and 3 boots (of course) across my characters as well. Crota gave me an extra Black Hammer and Swordbreaker (leveling up to shard). Pretty good week in addition to my Nightfall drops.

I'm also set with shards and gear (except need chest for titan) and waiting for better rolls as 200-300 total strength is way too much for me

Well, those two exotics I got actually both came this week. I got nothing but the Titan mark the 3 weeks before (x 3 chars). My only Raid weapon this week was the fusion rifle which was the other one I needed (but didn't want). Still need that Hunger of Crota. I invited Broly in to help another group with Crota last night and I think he said he got his 3rd one :bomb:. Oh well, since I'll be running this 3 times every week, I'll get one eventually. My only duplicate weapon so far has been Black Hammer. RNG has been pretty decent about giving me different ones at least.

As to your last comment, yeah, it seems the new Raid gear definitely emphasizes strength. And I was wondering about that - does the damage you deal to Crota with the sword get modified based on your strength stat? If so, I may just go with my Hunter as is. Strength will be really high for her, but maybe that will make her a good swordbearer. Plus I tend not to use the super and grenades as much as a Hunter. Though I was doing VoG last night and used Bladedancer on one of the Praetorians in the beginning - tore that sucker up ;). Unfortunately the group I was with couldn't get past Confluxes (on hard). So all I got out of an hour+ of work was the 2 (regular) shards from the first chest.

I would absolutely level up Black Hammer. Hunger of Crota is a great RL to have, especially in combo with Ice Breaker.

But BH is much better overall, just the ammo perspective. It should be much more helpful overall.

I've got 3 HoC's with one maxed. The other two just need shards but I won't drop any into them since I'm still holding out hope that I'll get Black Hammer in one of my two remaining runs this week.

Plus, BH would be a great sniper to match up with Gjallarhorn :bouncy:

 
I want Hunger of Crota since I usually do sniper duty on Crota and use Icebreaker for that. It would be nice to be able to take a few shots at Crota as well, though the other people can usually handle it just fine. But there are times (like last night before we invited Broly in) where 4 people just can't quite synchronize getting his shields down (before they pop back up) so it would be nice if I could fire a rocket from my sniper perch to help out. And I'm guessing in Hard mode I'll want that for sure.

Then pretty much for everything in Destiny except for Nightfalls with Void or Arc burn, my load out would be either Icebreaker/Hunger of Crota or Black Hammer/Gjallarhon.
 
I summarized the Crota Raid gear info (with some new observations on perks) for the PS4 thread. Might as well repost here:

- Gloves: Perks: 1) "Increased reload speed with special weapons" (always the same I think) 2) "Killing a Hive with a grenade ability has a chance to spawn an orb of light" OR "Killing a Hive with a melee attack has a chance to spawn an orb of light" 3) "Increases melee attack speed" OR "Causing damage with a grenade attack reduces your melee cooldown" OR "Causing damage with a melee reduces your grenade cooldown". Anything that maxes at 105 or above is a good roll.

- Chest: Perks: 1) "Gain a temporary increase to reload speed while Oversoul's Gaze is active" (always the same I think) 2) Primary ammo perk (like "carry more ammo for auto rifles" 3) Special ammo perk (like "Carry more ammo for shotgun"). A roll of 150 is good, 160 is excellent.

- Boots: Perks are always the same: 1) "Carry more ammo for heavy weapons" 2) "Gain a temporary increase to Agility when carrying the sword of a Hive Swordbearer". A good roll is 145-150.

So like I said before, you want to look for good stat types (like not all strength), but also good numbers and whatever ammo perks match your style. The various glove perks don't matter too much as far as I can see unless you really like melee over grenade or vice versa - though the perks seem to favor using both. They seem to get paired up as "melee produces orb"/"grenade reduces melee cooldown" or "grenade produces orb"/"melee reduces grenade cooldown". My Warlock gloves have "grenade produces orb" combined with "increased melee speed" though.

Reviewing all this I think I will get my Hunter to 32 first, even though she's my least favorite character. I have 52 Int / 51 Str gloves (which max a little higher than that - over the 105 combined cutoff). I have a decent chest piece: 71 Int / 73 Str. I'm not sure what those max out at, but it is close to 150. More importantly, the perks are hand cannon and sniper ammo and that matches what I run with perfectly (Fatebringer and Black Hammer, though I also use Icebreaker where that doesn't matter). Boots are 74 Dis / 71 Str so that maxes out close to 150. Like I said before, too heavy on strength but maybe that helps with Crota.

I have one good piece for the other two, but then some crappy ones.

Titan has 0 disc like I said. I already maxed the good gloves at 105 Int. Chest is crappy at 132 Str with Scout/Sniper perks (which are OK since I use VoC too). Boots are meh at 137 Str. So I think I'll wait for a helm (to use Armamentarium) or better chest and better boots.

Warlock has excellent gloves (51 Int / 52 Disc pre-max) with the grenade kill spawning orb perk (probably the best one). I will definitely keep those. Chest is meh at 140 Int (and unfortunately I maxed it already) and has horrible ammo perks (auto rifle/shotgun). Boots are OK at 72 Int / 73 Str but I'll wait for some with Disc.

So I suppose I could max my Warlock first since I already have one piece done. I could do that without even having to convert energy. But I'd really like to replace that chest piece even though I burned 21 radiant shards on it. To max my Hunter I'll have to convert about 10 radiant energy. That will cost me 10 black wax idols and 5000 glimmer (I think it is 500 per). Plus I have to grind for sapphire wire - my Hunter is my 3rd character and I never built up a supply of that stuff like I did for the other two.

So, despite 600+ hours in this game, I have a newb question. I thought all the faction stuff was for Crucible players only. But someone in chat yesterday implied that you can rank up the factions with patrols and other Vanguard bounties. Is this true? Because if so, I wish I had been doing this for a long time. I know there are some cool shaders you can only get from the factions, and, well, I'm like rank 30 or whatever in Vanguard and might as well do something else. I don't know why, but it seemed when I went to those vendors early on in the game, it seemed all Crucible-related. So I've just ignored them even since.

So how do I go about doing this - just buy the class mark from a faction and wear it while doing Vanguard bounties? What happens with Strike playlists then? I also want to play the Roc list a little more to get some of the actual different-looking ships that can drop from that.

Yep. Essentially you where the class item and whenever you would get crucible or vanguard rep you'd get that faction rep instead. You do still get Eris rep when doing her bounties. The bad part is anything they have for sale you need crucible marks for.

Oh damn, so if I want to buy a shader it takes marks - or are those just glimmer after a certain rank? I'll be on in a minute and check them out.

I don't believe you can buy Shaders, they are just rewarded as you rank up randomly. Class items cost glimmer. Armor and weapons cost crucible marks.

Looks like I'm going to go for the Dead Orbit ones (white/gray/black). Though it is kind of hard to beat my Eris rank 4 Sunsetting shader. But once all the plebs hit rank 4 that won't be so special any more ;).

Edit: Signed up for Dead Orbit. Then I did 5 Vanguard Roc strikes and 4 of the 5 were Phogoth. WTF RNG!? The 5th was Nexus and it put me in right at the end. I got blues on all the full Phogoth strikes but got a legendary emblem (that turned into armor) from the 1 minute Nexus run. The other two guys each got the new ships though - and that's what I was trying to get. I'll run it a few more times. I maxed out my Vanguard marks without noticing so I spent some of that on Helium. At least now I don't have to mat farm any more...

I love Pocket Infinity, but if I wait for the bounty to come up again I can save two exotic shards... Tough life decisions. #destinyproblems
 
I have been dead this holiday season on the forums but I still was squeezing in some Destiny while visiting family.

My luck has continued to be absolute garbage. I am now at 5x Black Hammers, 3x Hunger of Crotas and then finally one Swordbreaker.

I also have a full set of Raid gear + Exotic Helmet for my Warlock but it is all Strength. Awesome. I am refusing to level it up until I absolutely have to for Hard Raid and I am holding out for better rolls.

My Nightflops the past 2 weeks now have yielded 16 Acsendant Energy, 15 Ascendant Shards and 9 Strange Coins. Seriously? WTF is that.

And then last night I got the Gauntlet Engrams and about pooped my pants when I got Sunbreakers because I haven't upgraded mine yet because of Xur's horrible rolls... I checked and the ones I got have max INT of 81. EIGHTY ONE. I bought another and it was the ugly blue ones whose name eludes me for Titans that increase time for force barrier. And they too had a crazy low roll of 86 max. I am getting so tired of this game and my consistent absolutely horrible luck. I kind of just want to stop until Hard Raid is released but I know I won't. I am just sick of a month now of terrible rewards. 

Xur then has cool stuff but really I don't want any of it. I bought it just because but really have no desire to use them. Also, wtf is up with the legs only having one actual boost? That is bogus. Why would you waste an exotic piece strictly to increase your shoulder charge's "charge" duration? I suppose perhaps if you absolutely need legs to hit 32 they are useful but even in PvP I would rather you Inmost Light than those. I am being overly grumpy but whatever, my heat is out in my apartment and I woke up to an icebox this morning before work and then missed my train and was an hour late and Destiny tonight can't cheer me up seeing as I have already gotten all the things that give guaranteed "rewards" (nightfalls and raids).

Got the Warlock chest from Xur, only thing I don't like about it is that the shaders don't work on it.  Not sure if its a glitch or it just works that way :/

Also finally got Eris to level 3 and got my Husk of the Pit upgraded to Legendary, now I just need the Crota Raid on hard to upgrade it to Exotic which will probably never happen, since I never get to play raids.  

Only done VoG once on normal...yup that's how sad it is. 

Then there's the Strike bounty to receive Thorn...Oy! this game needs to help out single players more.

I am Central. With work and school I normally am on much later though and most of the people I play with are on the west cost anyway hah

You take that back, No Backup Plans look super sweet - they make my Titan look like someone out of Mass Effect

March - House of Wolves

September - "Comet" (Hive themed full expansion with new subclasses etc)

*Destiny will probably be repackaged with DLC + expansion like they did for D3: ROS

*PS exclusives lose their exclusivity at this point

I thought about getting those but I upgraded two helms (Achlyophage Symbiote for Hunter and Apotheosis Veil for Warlock - both with pure Disc). They both give me better stats when combined with my Raid gear. So I could hit 32 on either one now - but the problem is I have to grind the exp on those helms first and that is a pain. So for right now my characters have actually gone backwards and are 30 now...

I also bought the new Hunter gloves (Don't Touch Me) in case I ever end up with a Raid helm.

So I'm not sure what to do with respect to the Raid gear. I could level up the better pieces but that would be like one per character and then I might not have enough shards to get anyone to 32 (though I probably will after another week of Raiding).

On the other hand, I just found out I have to attend a remote training class Weds-Fri next week that has a daily start time of 8am Eastern. That's bad enough for me as it is since I am a night person - but it is even worse as I am on the West Coast :bomb:. The upshot is probably very little Destiny for me next week though I can still probably run the Raid at reset since that is Monday night/Tuesday morning.

I solo that one on PS4. It takes time, 1.5 hours for me, yeah can run past everything except the locked door and Phogoth. remember they patched the way Xyor comes out, You have to kill everything in the room then free Phogoth, get his health down until the 1st drop ship comes, kill everything then lower Phogoths helath until 2nd ship come, rinse and repeat

According to that Comet almost sounds like a stand alone expansion (though, Bungie's term "expansion" varies from the norm). That is a big gap between the next DLC and comet. I was hoping for a third one before the fall. Hopefully House of Wolves isn't as light as Dark Below and can manage to keep people sassified until September. Or Bungie has some free events planned until the fall...

Yeah I see myself really dropping off with this game probably around May or so unless they really wow me with other content. Once I get the Raid weapons on Hard mode of Crota I will not have much else to do. Even now after I do my Raids and Nightfalls for the week, wihich with the current cheeses and the ability to do it all solo basically I can get all the raids done in a night and the nightfalls another which means 2 nights of Destiny a week. I really am disappointed with how many exploits there are on Crota's End because it completely diminishes the whole thing. Why try and push through it all when you can literally just solo everything easily except the final boss?

I wouldn't be surprised if they moved "Comet" up to Bungie day to compensate and get some attention back to Destiny before the Fall heavy hitters hit the plate

If they pull what they have now where they artificially extend its duration by giving up hard mode later yeah I can see me sticking around until early May. I am probably moving in June and really shuffling around a lot with my life actually so it is probably best I won't have a game addiction to care for during that time hahah

It comes out with select waves of thralls so if you kill the first swordbearer fast enough, another one will spawn when the thralls come out for the first time.

LP - if you have a good time over the weekend to run it let us know. We can try to be on then if it works out for everyone. Sat. night as late as possible works for me. Maybe in the mean time someone can try to get an Oracles checkpoint in Hard mode. (Otherwise I'd suggest we just run it on Normal - but I know some others like Simosaurus are still looking for Fatebringer and such). LP, does that mean you don't even have Atheon's Epilogue or Vision of Confluence - or did you get one of those from your single VoG run? I can't imagine playing this game without at least having either VoC or Fatebringer (and preferably both).

As for the expansions...

If they release House of Wolves in March I'm sure the Hard mode will be late April-May. So that may carry people through June or so. September does seem a long way off for more content though. They could fix that by having more events (and not all PvP ones like now). Queen's Wrath wasn't all that great (other than an easy way to get legendary armor early on before most people had any), but it showed promise and then they just completely abandoned PvE events. That has probably been my biggest disappointment with the game. It seemed like there would be a lot more event-type content based on that first few weeks.

The timing of House of Wolves works out well. I'm guessing we don't see hard mode Crota until late this month. That gives people 4-5 weeks to get the new gear from that and level it up in time (for it to be obsolete) for the next Raid.

Yeah especially with the Nightfalls, having Atheon's, VOC and Fatebringer are all amazing to have so that your primary is doing the burn damage too. I couldnt imagine playing without any of those early on really!

Weekends are harder for me to play as my son takes over with PvZ: Garden Warfare, but if not this weekend I'd be down for some time in the week for sure!

I got nothing...the one time I played I had some gauntlets that I already got rid of. No weapons from the raid, I mainly got upgrade materials that time I ran it + Chatterwhite.

I'll see if i can on Sat...though Sun night is more likely but if I can I'll definitely shoot you a message and post here as well. Thanks guys!
