Deus Ex (PC) - $1.99 @ Micro Center

maiku

CAGiversary!
I was in the Fairfax, VA Micro Center and saw stacks of Deus Ex (original big ugly box from 2000) marked $1.99. They were in the cheap game section. Might be interesting for the old school PC gamers.

LOL, i remember playing this back in the day..

Went to the Tustin, CA Microcenter a week ago and they had a few PC games for $1.99:

Deus Ex
Pariah (tons of copies)
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Alias
Taz Wanted
...and a few more I can't recall...

I remember *lots* of Daikatana (naturally) and Deathtrap Dungeon. Some Neverwinter Nights expansions too. It's like Daikatana is the new KISS: Psycho Circus.

Here's the list if anyone's interested:

You're right! Lot's of those games were there...

Note to self: Buy a bunch of those large Daikatana boxes as joke gifts for Christmas... Maybe I can get John Romero to sign a few copies... ;-)

oh man wish i had a microcenter. deus ex is my favorite game of all time (or a close 2nd next to monkey island), and would love to pick up some additional copies for cheap.
It's also FREE on Gametap
I got it for free in an issue of Computer Gaming World years ago. I still have the DVD in my desk. :D

This was a great deal when I bought it for just a couple of bucks more a few years ago. I remember liking the game quite a bit. But I'm not sure how well it would have aged. I should pull it out and install it on my new laptop (as soon as I get a decent trackball) to see how it holds up today.

Someone should remake this using the Source engine ... hopefully the next one that ? (not sure which dev. it is) are working on will be far better than the god-awful sequel ... oh, and if you haven't played this, it's right up there with Fallout 1 & 2 for the best awesome old game award.

Don't forget, there are fan-made hi-res texture packs available for Deus Ex to make it look a little bit more modern. Doubt they work with the Gametap version, so the game is worth having on CD.

They had an pretty much an aisle with about 75% of it consisting of 1.99 games. Nothing that great, but they did have the expansions for Roller Coaster Tycoon for 1.99 each..but I couldn't find the damn main game!! :bomb:

This was at the fairfax, va microcenter.

Hmm, thought I saw it at the far end of the one aisle near the restrooms. Not 100% sure though.

Ditto - still one of the best games of all time. If you haven't played it, grab a copy on PC (or even PS2) and spend some time w/ it. If you can get past the last-gen graphics, it's incredible.

Have any Five Belows around? They had RC Tycoon Gold for $5 here, which had the first game + expansions.
how far is Richmond from Fairfax...
4 hours!?!?!?

Yes there is one about 10 mins from me... THANKS!
Man, the original classic Deus Ex in the sealed BIIIIIG BOOOOX. That would look nice in my collection. Tell me Mapquest, how far is Richmond from Fairfax...
dude.. shipping a dvd costs about $2. Unless Deus Ex comes in the big box you'd be better off getting a CAG to send you one.

Nah, Richmond to Fairfax is more like 1.5 to 2 hours. Still, not worth the drive just for a $2 game!

The Mayfield Hts., OH Micro Center had the same games plus the PC versions of Backyard Football 2006 (with Daunte Culpepper in a Vikings uniform on the cover), Backyard Basketball (Tim Duncan on the cover), and Parker Bros. Card Games/Milton Bradley Board Games, all at $1.99 apiece. These games were in the video game section, as well as a display across from the video game section. There was a metric buttload of every game except the Card Games/Board Games. I snagged one Card Games/Board Games (had Card Games quite a few years ago), leaving a grand total of one copy.

oops..

It's been like 6 years since I have been to Richmond.

I forgot.

Oh well.

you can still find servers for this game online, so there's at least a handful of people playing it

Damn, I wish there were a Microcenter near me. I got my copy of Deus Ex with a video card, so I don't have the big box. I don't display my computer boxes, but I would for Deus Ex, being that it's probably my #1 favorite game of all time. I wonder if I could figure out some other reason to drive to Tustin, CA (which to someone who lives near Hollywood ends up being like a 1-2 hour drive each way, depending on traffic).

On the bright side:
1.) Gas is cheap; I just filled up for $1.69/gallon last weak at Costco.
2.) The drive would only take about an hour if you go in off peak times and avoid the 5 freeway as much as possible.

Is this the GOTY edition or no? And what's the difference? Some GOTYs just include the latest patch (looking at you COD4), while some include stuff like expansion packs that you would have had to buy separately (Oblivion).

I see nothing on the box about GOTY.

These are the ORIGINAL Deus Ex copies. They must have found them in a warehouse or something. These have the big textbook sized cardboard boxes.... No fancy DVD covers here.
Going back to pick one up, and one for a friend.
These will pretty much be playable on any laptop with a x3100 built-in intel card or higher...
Corrected spelling mistake. :D
Ha, nice. I remember when big boxes were an endangered species. Reminds me of when the CD long boxes started to disappear. I imagine all games will be download-only someday. (feeling old!)

I picked up many games at the Madison Heights, MI store. I noticed that most of the games were published by Atari and then Eidos published the rest. I wonder if these two companies lost warehouse space due to financial problems and these "leftovers" were found? Oh well, great deals for us!
