Devil May Cry 1,2,3 Question

I have a quick question:

I am now getting into the huge, excellent library of PS2 games, thanks to the backwards compatibility of my PS3!

I recently purchased the first three Devil May Cry games (1,2,3). I have not yet opened them however.

I am not into fighting games at all, although I love action games (Uncharted, Tomb Raider, etc). I LOVED Resident Evil 4, and having done some reading they say DMC is like RE4 with more fighting.

Having never played any of the DMC games, and not into fighting games, my question is:
Will I like Devil May Cry series?
Is it like RE4 at all?
Is DMC series considered a fighting game series?

Comments? Opinions?
Thanks!

I guess your refering to a fighting style of instead of a actual fighter. You should love the devil may cry series. I don't think it is like resident evil. I think you should just open it and play it already. It is a good series.

Yeah I would definitely recommend playing through all 3 (skip number 2 if any of them). The only reason they might not be fun for you is if you are afraid of a challenge (I think I died on the first boss of DMC1 at least 8 times).
And no it is nothing like Resident Evil 4. It has a very fast pace and is more about slaughtering your enemies quickly while dodging and juggling them in mid air than conserving ammunition and using strategy.

They have a lot of fighting in them, but the combat system is so well done. I love them (aside from 2).

Play DMC1 first then play DMC3 and then, if you're really really really bored play DMC2.

I can't agree more with whoknows. Play the DMC1 first, followed by DMC3 (preferably the Special Edition if you have it), and only play DMC2 if you have nothing better to do. DMC2 is by far the worst of the three.

After you are done with DMC 1 and 3, skip DMC 2. Go buy yourself Onimusha 3 ($10 used in GS) and maybe Onimusha: DoD (it's a Onimusha but cost $20 used). If you like beat/shoot em-ups, definitely check out Godhand, RedStar, Gungrave: OD.... let me know if you need more...

Speaking of Onimusha I was waiting to get DoD because the games have a tendency to drop quickly but it never really did drop much.

Definitely seconding and God Hand and Red Star - two of the best games on PS2. Heard Gungrave: Overdose is good too, planning on picking it up soon. But in my opinion the Onimusha games are highly overrated; more cutscene than game, and unlike DMC the cutscenes are often boring. At least, that's how DoD was.

But then, I thought RE4 was boring and overrated too, so as a fan of that you may want to take that with a grain of salt.

Ok here's the deal. IMO, RE4 was better than the DMC series. They were all good action games. However, they had very different styles. Both series coming from Capcom, which means they are challenging games, especially the DMC series. Capcom is known for making their games difficult. Nonetheless, I believe you will enjoy the DMC series. In fact, these were my favorite action games until I played Ninja Gaiden and God of War.

Piggybacking on some of the other comments made here, the Onimusha series seems to be pretty decent. I haven't played the first one, but I have played the last 3 and the fighting game, Onimusha: Blade Warriors. And the opening cinema from Onimusha 3 is off the hook. Looks like something out of a modern day Martial Arts movie. That is because it was directed by Donnie Yen, the guy who played in the famous Martial Arts movie "Iron Monkey". They game also starred the actor Jean Reno, from the movie "The Professional". He was an actual character in the game. I really enjoyed God Hand. This game was as difficult as DMC, but I beat it. I own Red Star but have yet to open it. Heard good things about that one.

There is one game that I think you should also pick up. It's called Chaos Legion. It came out around the same time that DMC2 came out. In fact, the reason why the quality of DMC2 suffered was because the team that worked on the first DMC, worked on Chaos Legion, leaving DMC2 with a different team to create the game. Chaos Legion is an excellent game. Just as good as DMC.

well I don't want to start a new thread but my question is a bit old.

on the DMC Collectors Edition does it come with the original DMC3 or does it come with DMC3:SE.
