Diamond and Pearl Thread 1-A (Friend Codes; Online Discussion; Trades, Battles, etc.)

Here's my friend code 0301 6264 0196 and I've got Diamond.

And I am still trying to hunt down a larvitar and aron, if anyone has extras . And probably tomorrow night around this time I'm probably gonna bug you guys to help me evolve my *ahem* soon to be Machoke and my leveled up Kadabra.

And wants the deal with honey?

So...any big reason why people are getting Diamond over Pearl? Isn't the only differences a few pokemon you can't get in the other?

Ahadi- tomorrow afternoon (2-4 ish probably) I'll be available to evolve your Machoke and Kadabra, if you still don't have it done. I'll add your code tomorrow as I'm about to log off.

whoknows- Diamond is blue, Pearl is pink, and the player base is most likely predominantly male, most of which are young and find pink to be girly.

Personally, I just liked the legendary of Diamond's look more than Pearl's.

some would say they prefer the version exclusives (as seen on serebii.net), others would say that diamond = blue/gray and pearl = red/pink. the pink hues would turn some self-conscious gamers to drive themselves to diamond.

i myself picked diamond for exclusives and the fact that i've gotten the blue/gray one for the series (blue, silver, sapphire).

I got both. But my girl is playing Pearl. I was going to play through Pearl and give her Diamond(heh, you know, give her a Diamond? :D), but everything went crazy(found out her brother has cancer last tuesday morning, little things like that) and then I got Diamond in the mail on Friday and she said I could play it since she was busy and wouldn't be over to see me. So yeah, that is how I ended up with Diamond.

To be honest, this is probably the most addicted I've ever been to Pokemon, what with all the new wifi possibilities.

anyone out there think that the 'gotcha!' trick is like the old "press up+b while the ball is catching" supposed cheat? i know i did it anyways coz i was always pissed when abra wouldn't get into his fuckin ball...

Is this really true? I tried but it didn't work for me...

I always did Down+B.

Sweet Honey

About halfway between the first and second gym, you'll start seeing brown trees. There is a town with no grass but flowers everywhere. A guy there gives you some for free and sells more for 100 a pop.

You rub the sweet honey on the brown trees and after 12 hours a pokemon will be in the tree. You can tell because the tree will be shaking. This could be crap like wurmple, but there are 6 pokemon in the game you can only get this way.

Combee *Male Combee is useless and can never evolve, best to soft reset until you get a female which can evolve at level 21*
Munchlax (baby Snorlax)
Aipom
Heracross
Burmy
Cherubi

If you don't get back to the tree within 24 hours the pokemon will flee and the honey will have been wasted.

Also note from my experience so far, the Pokemon type will be decided by the time it arrives at the tree. It's stats however won't be. So if you want a specific nature, or gender, save in front of the tree and soft reset until you get it.
Does anyone know if time adds to the time counter while the DS is in sleep mode?
It doesn't. I tried it myself and the counter stops in sleep mode.
nice tip, hohez, and i appreciate the 'spoiler' for those who wanna discover it on their own.
NP, I figure I'm divulging an entire game mechanic, I better cover the bases. I made a couple additions to it also after my initial post.
It doesn't. I tried it myself and the counter stops in sleep mode.
good to know. i usually leave my ds in sleep mode. i'm too lazy to go through the 'health and safety precaution' warning each time i wanna play.

Those two aren't available until after you get the national dex, so you might be waiting a while unless some random CAG has a japanese copy he's been playing.

Do any of you Pearl owners have a female Misdreaveus that they'd be willing to part with? I can trade you a Murcrow for one. Insta-exclusive trade if you will.

I just got my forth badge and decided I wanted one and I know my friend with Pearl version isn't far enough yet.

dunno if it was posted, but i read about the 16 person capture the flag thing a while back this afternoon.

if it is true, anyone down for a 'club house games' style weekly event?

I think it's only local wireless, has anyone successfully connected through wifi for this?

Thanks for informing me of that. I didn't know the national dex was needed for them :whistle2:# When does one achieve this "national dex"?

The capture the flag thing is in the Shinnoh underground which unfortunately is local wifi only, since otherwise that would be awesome.

Not to make light of some of you guys' difficulties, but disobedience is one of the main reason I don't use trade pokemons in the early game

It's actually pretty simple, you first must beat the elite four and 'complete' you Shinnoh dex, fortunately the developers decided to make completion simply a matter of seeing the pokemon. From what i understand most of the job is done for you through the natural course of the game. even the legendaries
I think it's only local wireless, has anyone successfully connected through wifi for this?
ahh, seems more likely. man, that would be awesome if you could link up that many through wifi...

agreed on that note...

here's one for the grinders w/badges. how bout trading between each other as long as you can control up to a certain level, then trading back. with the experience gain boost, you can sure save time.

if you're picky on EV training though... that's a tough one.
I just updated the front with more friend codes. I think I got all the new ones.
thanks OP! good job on the maintenance, btw. i'm sure it's a ton of work...

It is not that bad when I can get them in these little bursts, but if I get behind that will make it hard!

I think we should have some sort of FAQ in the front page on online play, groups, strategies, status ailments, etc.

Sorry but this is my first Pokemon game I've ever played, and on top of all the regular Pokemon jibberish I have to catch up on (there's disobedience?), there's another world of online play that seems confusing.

Anyway, I had a question -- do any of the older (i suppose 1st gen) Pokemon exist in this game for you to catch? I've seen a few that I remember from high school -- Psyduck, Machop (?), and I've seen that Pikachu in the 1st city.

Just updated some more. I think that I will be doing it a couple times a day for the first couple of weeks and then after that I will do it daily. Of course this could vary.

Hm. And with my trip, I now have Pokemon Pearl in my possession.

I don't think I'll be playing it much tonight though; maybe for like an hour. Probably not much tomorrow either.

However by Thursday I do plan to get my act together and accelerate.

Congrats! :applause:

Do not forget to put your Friend Code up when you get it!

s'what we always say. then it's 3am and you're hungry. it happens.
Should we also place our character name with the list as well?

That way we can name you.....

Im DOCTOR
I was debating whether to do that or not. I think a lot of people's just might be there name here on CAG, so having some people with two names or people with the same name twice might be confusing.

I think that if you want to be somebody's friend you should message them and you can figure out the names in that way.

i think that works well. CAG name would work for a temporary fix, but when two of y'all are all set to trade and what not, 'real' names can be fixed up.

random note: any shiny sightings? i'm always afraid when i'm grinding that i'll kill one... so the whole "walk while pressing a and watching tv" doesn't apply to me...

None yet ever in a pokemon game for me. Horribly paranoid I'll finally see one and crit kill it accidentally or something.

The DS dying tells me that the world is telling me that I need to stop playing Pokemon and study for my final tomorrow for HUMN432... Hard to believe I'm a friggen Juinor in college and was planning on using an excuse like "Pokemon kept me from studying"... *shakes head* Nintendo...making kids fail since 1998.

second'd

I made the hard decision to name my Diamond game after my internet handle since I figured that would be more recognizeable over the WiFi, especially since I use the same handle at pretty much every forum I go to, not just CAG.

For the inevitable later versions I'll probably go back to my real name. I'm betting we get a G/S remake in a few years, the npcs are name dropping way too many G/S facts and plot points for it to be a coincidence.

i did that last game with a poochyena. learned my lesson and then always carried a shroomish with false swipe and spore in my party. on a positive note, 3 hours into sapphire, i found a shiny nincada. after evolving, i had a shiny shedinja and a shiny ninjask. awesome 2-for-1 deal that is notably CAG-worthy.

red gyarados, anyone? when i read that in the start, it seemed eerily familiar...

The G/S/C reference I remember is
when the man that hands you the egg talks about research done in Hoenn.
Which other ones do you remember?

G/S/C was a great generation, but I would rather have new games.

I'd be willing to write the Red Gyrados off as clever nod, but there's even more name dropping later on that makes me suspect
