Oh, I have the Diamond version, forgot to mention that.
no worries crazytalkx, i'm sure the OP'll have it up and fixed tmw. how's your progress in the game going?

k, i just restarted my game (trying it out as a girl this time), and i got my new friend code...

it turns out that it DOES CHANGE if you restart your game...
i went from 4940-1916-4944 to 4081-1986-3311.
OP - i guess it's safe to remove me until i start my "real" game. who knows what my FC will be then...
I gave you a TBD there for now.

I think it is really odd how a new game brings a new code. I will make mention of this in the OP.
no worries crazytalkx, i'm sure the OP'll have it up and fixed tmw. how's your progress in the game going?
Yup, it is barely "tomorrow" though. I actually am still reading the book but I needed a break, so here I am!

Soooooooo. Here's question. I haven't played a Pokemon game since Pokemon Red on my Gameboy Pocket...that was back in 6th grade, where I hid the fact that I played Pokemon from EVERYONE the way you hide you're a tranny. But with all this new hype, is the nostalgia worth it? I put in probably around 250-350 hours into Pokemon Red back in the day and I remembering loving every second of it.

I recently sold away my DS Lite, but I'm wondering if it's worth picking it up again just for this game? Has anyone else stepped away from the game when I did because they got too old, or the game got too nerdy for your social life, but now have come back to it? Also, if I were to get the game, I'd need to get them ALL.

Does it still work where if you simply own the Pokemon once, it goes into your Pokedex (....urge to catch rising....)

Question for everyone--do you need a guide for the game, or can you catch 'em all just fine without one?

One of the things that pissed me off about FFXII was that you really had to have a guide to do alot of the NMs, and reading through the posts here I have no CLUE what you guys are talking about since I've never played a Poke game in my life, and I get the feeling that unless you use a guide you won't be able to figure out how to "catch 'em all" or what to do.

And I hate using guides. I'd rather just take my time and play through trying to figure stuff out on my own.

So how newbie friendly is this game?
Damnit Moxio. Get the damn game already.

Thanks Doomed for the Machop. Got an Abra that's almost a Kadabra. Suhweet.
Welcome. I didn't know about
MAchop-> Abra until my abra was already at like level 14. From level 6 of so.:bomb:

I just pick up Diamond yesterday. And I have to say the series has changed a bit since I last play it(which is to be expected since my last game was Silver). Right now I'm just outside the 1st Gym doing a little grinding while looking for a few Pokemon that can fight Rock types.

If 9 year old's can handle it just fine, you shouldn't have a problem, I think.

Not saying it to be condescending, just saying it's pretty easy to pick up and play... they explain everything to you as you go along, if it's like past Pokemon.

You definitely wouldn't need a guide, there are plenty of free online guides which are way better.

Is it possible to trade for a legendary on the GTS? Nobody will EVER catch them *all* because of the events where you got special pokemon like Mew and Jirachi and Deoxys, that are now inaccessible.
So has anyone caught any shinies or a pokemon with PKRS yet?
What's PKRS? Last night I took mine to the pokecenter and when the bitch healed them up, she mentioned them having some virus that made them level faster...I suddenly realized I had clicked through new dialogue, so I handed them back again, but didnt get the explanation again.

And I hadn't added any new pokemon so...I dunno..

Hmm, well I heard pokemon you receive through trades gain more experience or something. Perhaps that's what the Pokenurse was talking about?

In other news, Chimchar is basically amazing. Or rather, Monferno/Infernape is amazing, because of the addition of Fighting moves. If I'm not super-effective against a foe then I'm at least not ineffective. My Infernape is now lvl 40 and rocking everything I've fought.

Basically it doubles your effort values you gain when you're battling pokemons. I believe it goes away after midnight unless you put it in your PC.

By any chance you still have a pokemon with PKRS? I'd like to trade if you have any(you can spread PKRS to other pokemons).

I have a level 16 Prinplup, and 4 other pokemon that are in the level 4-7 level range. I just beat the first gym but I'm probably going to marathon today

Also, thanks to Quintessence for frequently updating the OP!

The Pokerus is awesome. Info is available here, its format is for R/S but I don't think it's any different in D/P. Spread the love man, it will be extremely useful for those of us planning to do ev training.

I guess I must be weird for compulsively keeping all of my Pokemon in my party at an even level judging from some of youse.

I managed to get Diamond on Sunday, but haven't posted my code yet, so here it is:

4081 1979 9578

PM me your code if you add me so I could do the same

I do that in a way also. I will level one up to lets say 15 then I work another one up to 15 and repeat.

Still wondering... there are a lot of auctions on Ebay out there that can put poke's like Mew, Deoxys, Lugia, Jirachi, any of the special event legendaries on a GBA cart, I'm wondering if you CAN trade for them on a GTS, when people will start duping them or however they are getting so many and trade with people?

It would be nice to get an official Deoxys or Celebi. However, if you can't trade them at all on a DTS for whatever reason, they will still be super rarez.

I hate the event pokemon :(

This is a really tough thread to follow. I know there was someone who offered to help me evolve my Kadabra and Machoke a few pages back. I'm gonna hold off on that for now. I wanna level them up a bit more so they can learn some more move before I evolve them.

I'm pretty sure you can trade for them later on, probably need the national dex first. I see people on the GTS seeking stuff like Mew, Jirachi, etc.

Cool, cool.

Hopefully it won't be impossible to trade for them.

I always hated never being able to get 100% because of the event Pokemon.

Machamp and Alakazam learn moves at the exact rate as Machoke and Kadabra, hell I think they even receive exp at the same rate since they're essentially 'bonus' evolutions. Hit me up on a pm if you want to trade them

Spoilers for gyms 6&7
WTF doods, why are there more water pokemon than ice pokemon in the ice gym and more rock pokemon than steel in the steel gym, it left me a little confused

I got this last night.
Never been a fan of these games or show but I figure if I dont like it the kids might. I will post my friend code if I start having fun with it. I will give it a go tonight.

Man, you guys were right. The Japanese love to trade for anything with english charecters! I traded a starley-ish common type and received a chimchar (male) 1.5 days later! Time to try for a Lucario like Trakan.
KIND sires'. Where can one breed in this game? Where is thou place to make my pokemons have sex?
Breeding can be done in Solaceon Town which is before the third badge to give you an idea of when

i think they did it in the same light of when you sell your ds. in case you ever sell this game (no way!) or give it away, you don't give away your online "identity". that way there is no "trainer theft".
Man, you guys were right. The Japanese love to trade for anything with english charecters! I traded a starley-ish common type and received a chimchar (female) 1.5 days later! Time to try for a Lucario like Trakan.
hah, i know i'd do some random trades later to get some internationals... wonder what some of the names of the pokemon are in other languages... a german budew? a spanish bronzor? a french mime, jr (seems fitting...)?
as a new comer to pokemon, would it be worthwhile for me to go pickup a guide?
guides i feel are most helpful for maps and just having it all out there for you to see. gamefaqs can cover some of the basics, but sites like serebii and psypokes can help you with more information on specific pokemon and game stuff as well. and there's always us on the boards - i think we're pretty friendly with answering stuff as well.

but anyways, glad to hear you're on the pokemon train. s'an awesome game.

I hope our games arrive today from EB. I'm getting really impatient!

Just found out I have to get my wisdom teeth removed next week, so at least I'll be able to log some serious Pokemon time while I heal.

I have a question...I just got the dowsing application. I remember in the old games when I had something like this, it would just chime when an item was around. This time it shows you how close you are an everything.

The only thing is I can't seem to get the item. You would only press A if I remember and then it'd say you found something. This time I'm on the item and don't know what to press...Little help please? :D

you don't go on the item, you go a panel next to it and then press A.

(random hidden item you may have missed)

after leaving 'home' to go to the first real town, hang a left above the ledge above town (verity lakefront). move to the lower left corner of the ledge. move right one and then look up. a potion is hidden on the panel above you.

i've always wanted a hidden items faq, but that's coz i'm a completist...
Damn this thread is exploding.

I'm gonna play soon, hopefully get through Gym 2.
You will probably pass me by the time I actually get to play again!

I just won my first contest. My bronzor got 1st in smart normal rank, and then got 1 pixel away from 1st in great rank.

The contests are much more involved this time, i actually see myself spending time on them.

It's the game I kept my DS for. It's definitely worth owning one for. If you put that much into the first series, and haven't played another series since, I can't imagine you won't like this one. In this version, all you have to do is see the Pokemon to have it added to the Pokedex, as actually catching all 493 is getting to be impossible.

I think I have only played contests only a couple times in any version. Perhaps with what you are saying, I may actually play them this time!
