Diamond; Pearl; Platinum 1-A (Friend Codes; Online Discussion; Trades, Battles, etc.)

So I started messing around with my new copy of Leaf Green tonight a bit and am waiting for Emerald to show up at my door. I already started another game in Diamond and I'm not sure how I want to play through these Pokemon adventures. Heh. I was going to try and work my way through Diamond and Leaf Green at the same time. Going back and forth when ever I pleased. Is this an ok way to play, you think? I figured by the time I beat Diamond I'd then be able to focus more on the GBA games, beat those and import my Pokemon into Diamond. Now I'm hearing blathering about Platinum which makes me sad and I hope I can import my Pokemon into that as well... assuming it's that different and assuming my addiction still stands. lol

Also, I'm using ChimChar as my starter in Diamond so I picked Squirtle as my starter in Leaf Green. Is this the right line of thinking? I kind of wanted Charmander for some strange reason but I felt like I needed to get a different type of Pokemon since I'd already have a strong fire Pokemon in ChimChar... or as I fondly refer to him... Mr. Peepers. lol

One more thing... where can I find shoes that will allow me to run faster?

I sorta want the GBA games too, but I figure, it isn't worth it for me until I beat the elite four in Pearl. I don't know that there's any "right" way to play, but I feel like putting time into the DS game first is a good idea, so you can actually transfer sooner, and battle online.

I'm also waiting for Emerald to go on clearance at CC...mine had like a million when they were on sale for $15, and I got Pearl for $20 by pricematching radioshack's clearance. Come on Emerald for $10!

Also, anyone have an extra Ditto to trade me? I would really like one for breeding. :)

oh ok. Well I can help anyone out with trades as well. I'm almost finished up with my team, I'll be up for some battling probably tomorrow, wasn't able to get as much done today as I thought.

You need any certain items sl4in? I don't want ya burning out on the game. Getting EVs and all that is extremely tedious and long work, especially within a week.

oh well I've got all the power items for each stat to EV train, and don't worry about me burning out, I just eclipsed 400 hours on my diamond game. I play it avidly. The real tedious part is getting the properly natured pokemon while breeding (even more tedious when I need a certain nature and ability).

And I know all the right spots to do EV training, all my pokes have pokerus I think I'm pretty well rounded. ;)

Thanks for offering though option.

Wow, that's a lot! You definitely got your money's worth out of this game.

I've been playing the series religiously since it came to america in '98. If I had to total all my hours from every game I've played (I've owned and played every version except for crystal) it would be well over 1000 hours in the pokemon RPG's. It has become hands down, my favorite game franchise of all time and I always find I play them.

To be quite honest, I almost got burned out on the franchise as a whole and completely left pokemon when ruby/sapphire came out. I just felt that they where a step backwards after gold/silver and where extremely unoriginal compared to everything that had been introduced to us in previous generations. But, after 1000+ hours of playing, tons and tons of hours spent reading and researching everything that is pokemon, I may not always be the best battler, but I certainly know what I'm talking about.

Basically they're hidden values that add to your stats. And to boost them, they require much grinding. That's how I burned out on Pokemon a while ago.

Can I go ahead and set a time for folks meet up online? I'm going to just put it out there and say:

Lets meet online for battles/trading/whatever at 9PM Eastern/6PM Pacific.

Also, shall we meet up in the CAG chat beforehand? (You can tell I'm a newb...I have no idea how pokemon wifi works. Please offer better ideas if you have them.)

That sounds good, better that way than trying to schedule individually. Well, I can do that time tonight just fine.

There's a CAG chat?

edit: If not, then maybe we could go on IRC, if everyone's okay with that.

hey guys I'm debating if I should get pokemon diamond or pearl
which one is better in terms of exclusive pokemons?
i kinda like Palkia but then Dialga is the steel/dragon type

I'm not quite sure. But you can compare them.
Dialga:

http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/dialga

Palkia:
http://www.psypokes.com/dex/psydex/484/general
http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/palkia

Well, I wouldn't use or battle them unless it's Uber Play.

I'd say pick the cheaper of the two. Here in SoCal I think Pearl is cheaper by a bit. Besides, I can always generate any pokes you want that are exclusive to the other version.

btw, I finally found that CAG chat. It's under Menu> Cheap Ass Chat. Thanks mc for the tip. But yeah, I'd be up for just meeting in there around 9PM EST.
It's ok, I guess this is suko's way of saying he doesn't want to be Poke Pals with the rest of us. :(
I do...just not tonight, schedule conflict :p
I can do tonight, but not until 9PM central.
Well, that'll give us normal pokemon trainers an hour to feel good about ourselves until you smoke us. :p

I'd play with you guys but since I only have one badge and am only like 3 hours in... lol I think I'll sit this one out. ;)

Do most of yall EV train? Or just have regular battles?

I've never EV trained but I have been meaning to try to build a team, but GTA came out so I haven't got around to it yet. Seems like a lot more strategy comes into play with EV teams.

I EV train all my pokes.

You don't have to battle, I could always get you a poke for geting through the game. Of course it'll be the same level as the ones you have on ya, nothing like lvl 100.

Reminds me of that glitch back in Red and Blue where you could have pokemon over lvl 100.

If you see this in time, I only have 2 badges, and can muster a team to battle with you on about the same level probably. And like was said earlier, come trade!

EDIT: Oh yeah, i'm on CAGchat now!

I'll be late to the party guys, don't know how late exactly. Got called into work X_X

BUT! I will be on later if everyone else still is.
Lets meet online for battles/trading/whatever at 9PM Eastern/6PM Pacific.
I should be able to start making these within the next few days. Of course I won't have access to any kind of chat, as I'll be watching baseball or stanley cup playoffs, but I can still battle.

If we do battle, I'll get trounced since I am nowhere near ready to EV train, nor do I have much multiplayer battle experience, but thats ok. ;)

Well, I'm still on CAGchat. Sure is lonely in here. We dont have to battle or anything tonight, and I could always help out with trades or basic advice.

No worries. It's late here too. I was out at a friends tonight so I couldn't make the trade session. I just wanted to chat. I'm not sure I want to trade just yet because I don't want hacked Pokemon! lol But I'm getting to know the ropes and researching stuff. I have no idea what EV training is. Maybe you could could point me to some sources on some of this stuff. Altho I'm assuming it's more for after you beat the game.

Basically, EVs are hidden values that boost your stats. These EVs are obtained from training on specific pokemon. Every 4 EVs boost your pokes stat 1 point when they are at lvl 100. You won't see the real benefit until your pokes are at lvl 100. EV training is usually reserved for the post game.

edit: sorry I couldn't play sl4in, it was way past my bedtime. I even had on my Pikachu PJs by then. Maybe we can battle or whatever tonight if your up for it.

Thanks for more info, Option! I shall research it well! ;)

I was curious what the big to do was over this Toys "R" Us event for a Pokemon called Darkrai? How does this work? How much a loser will I feel if I walk in as a 26 year old dude and get this? Is there some sort of machine that transfers over the Pokemon?

I just got the game, and I haven't actually started yet.

Question: if I start with Piplup, how hard would it be to find a Chimchar and a Turtwig? Would it be easy to trade for them online? I figure I know the answer, but anyone here have any extras they'd be willing to give away? :D
They're pretty easy to trade for, since you can always trade piplups for them once you have a ditto.
That's a great idea.

I've always wanted to train a Ditto and use it, but its pitiful stats have always held me back. Maybe this time, though...

There are so many things that have been added to the games (like natures and EVs) that I don't know anything about and might not bother to learn about. I figure if I try to go online I'll have my ass kicked anyway, so I'm not too concerned with it. :)

I have an extra piplip, and can breed another turtwig. I should have gone for a female chimchar. Damn...well, guess i'll hop onto GTS and try to find one. And actually, try GTS once you're a ways in. I got my chimchar for a ponyta, and once saw a piplip available for a psyduck (I had the wrong sex, or I woulda snatched that bugger up!).

And I'd be willing to trade. I'm not at a point where I can be giving these guys away, but I'm always willing to trade.
