Did anyone play Call of Duty: World at War yet?

I love it.

Honestly, Call of Duty 4 is the better game, but with three exceptions.

CoD WaW has split screen co-op which adds SOOOOO much to the game if you have a friend over.

CoD WaW has Nazi Zombies, which is the greatest game mode ever made in any CoD game imo.

The old fashioned world war II guns are actually a lot of fun to use.

Yea, as far as I know you have to beat the campaign to unlock zombie mode. That's what did it for me anyway. lol

You do need to beat the game to unlock Nazi Zombies, unless you join a party with a host that has it beaten then you can play that way. CoD:WaW's short, 5 hours on Normal, shorter on the Easy setting.

Anyone playing this online at all? I tried to join with Bridge21C the other night but for some reason it wouldn't let us join parties. But I play this quite a bit if anyone ever wants to play.

How hard is Veteran difficulty? I glanced at the trophy list and there's a lot of them for beating levels on Veteran. I just picked up the game today. I'm probably going to play co-op first then play solo on Veteran.

Hard. Very hard.
I just picked it up too ($40 at Game Crazy). Did we every settle on a CAG night?
There was a thread made :http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=208490

man i was totally hating on this game because they went back to WWII but i got it cheap on ebay last week and all i can say is that the game is badass.

mmm thinking about picking this game up for 40 bucks at target this week...how is the gameplay? I am trying to decide between this and resistance 2, but that game never seems to go on sale...

Picked it up today at Target for 39 bucks.
As far as multiplayer goes:

Pros:
Plays exactly like Modern Warfare.
Menus/xp system same as Modern Warfare.
Multiplayer maps are, for the most part, well laid out.

Cons:
WWII may be "refreshed" in the CoD series, but its still WWII nonetheless. COD4 raised the bar on this in so many ways.
Same graphics engine, but lots more greys and browns this time around.
Plays exactly like Modern Warfare. (Not a whole lot of new stuff to truly enhance the experience.
Tanks in multiplayer are too cheap and too many littered on most maps.

If you liked Cod4, you may or may not like this one. Id give it a 8/10, compared to MW=10/10.
Hard. Very hard.

Like I'm going to murder 50 people hard or something? Is it worth going through or is it too frustrating?

Well, here's the thing. With most of the levels, it's INSANELY hard at one point, where you want to smash your controller, and then another part of the level could be easy, then you'll get back to dying a lot. Yes, it's worth going through, just be prepared to die. A lot.

Very much agreed, this is my least favorite thing about the game. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't regenerate, but it takes lot of the skill away. In the maps with them, you HAVE to control at least one, otherwise you're going to get ripped to shreds. IMO, it takes too many rocket shots to destroy them, they should at least immobilize at some point.

That being said, I have had some beastly rounds thanks to the tanks. :D

Would any of you mind telling me what router you use, especially if you have a wired connection?

CoD5 is one of two games in my library causing me network problems and I'm thinking about replacing my router. Various testing has convinced me my D-link DI-624 has some sort of incompatibility issue with the game.

I've had success plugging directly into my cable modem and with an old Linksys router I have. Unfortunately, that Linksys doesn't have wireless which I need for my wife.

So anyone have success with a wireless router that they connect to wired? What brand and model?

THanks

I had problems with being able to invite or be invited to join a party in World at War and found there are a couple extra ports that needed to be forwarded:

Call of Duty: World at War uses ports 3478, 3479, 3074, 3075 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 3074, 5223 (TCP)

some of these you may already have forwarded but there were a couple new ones for me. Sucks you have to get all down and dirty with a router these days just to play a game right. Feel like I'm back in windows 95 configuring my dial-up modem...

Oh and I'm using an older buffalo router - it's b/g compatable but I've connected with a wired connection with my 60gb ps3.

If you are unfamiliar with port fowarding you may just type in your router make/model and the words port fowarding into google and there should be some good results.

THanks. What model is that router?

God I hate the PS3 Multiplayer. Mute doesn't stick outside of one game and there is no way to perma mute someone, glitchers galore and no way to report or avoid someone. I found glitchers on Makin (rock), Roundhouse(under the map...thought they fixed that?),Castle(under the map) and it gets old quick. Also I don't know how many times games get stopped due to bad host connections and lobbies closed after finishing one game due to host issues.

Didn't COD4 have a cover/blind-fire system?

I keep reading reviews where people say that the WAW gameplay is the same as COD4...but I don't think WAW has cover/blind-fire.

What's the deal with co-op? Does it save when you beat it? I played the first level with a friend but I see no indication that the game knows I beat it.
No CoD ever had a cover system.
Hmm...I must be confusing my memory of it with another game. I seem to recall a war shooter when your dude would snap out of first person into a third person perspective when taking cover. Guess it wasn't COD4.

I don't think it saves your past progress in any obvious way. I think your scores are stored online but you don't see that in the main game interface. THat would be useful.

I was really expecting to go through the entire campaign with a buddy if I wanted to to get an overall score. But I don't think that is supported.

Some games make it easy to report people and some allow for people to be muted permanently. At least it's good that CoD: WaW implemented the mute system right away because CoD4 on PS3 didn't have mute right from the get go (an update added it).

just got the game...can anyone tell me the proper way to destroy a tank? I've mainly just been shooting it with the bazooka, but sometimes it just won't go down...
Muting and reporting players should be in the XMB under "Player's Met"... Sony!
Yeah that would be simple to add since they have the block feature there. Also regarding mute. It only works from the select menu once a game starts and doesn't carryover game to game which is annoying :(
just got the game...can anyone tell me the proper way to destroy a tank? I've mainly just been shooting it with the bazooka, but sometimes it just won't go down...
My favorite is to sneak up with a satchel charge and throw in it the tanks path. Once they roll over the charge detonate the charge. Rack up one kill. Since you are new and don't have many weapon choices yet maybe make a tank killer class with satchel charges, a sticky grenade, extreme conditioning and than perk 2 of your choice maybe camoflauge so the tank doesnt see you on radar or the fireworks perk or juggernaut perk (to allow you to take an indirect tank round or some machine gun rounds while trying to get into position. )

It seems like it takes 3 bazooka shots and a grenade to kill a tank so I am less found of those for facing unhurt tanks. One other option is get in a tank, fire off a round or two into the tank with main gun and than jump out and hit it with bazooka once the tank is damaged.

I'm stuck on Vendetta. I'm playing on Veteran. I can't get pass the part where you have to snipe the guy in the building across from you. I've played this part over 2 hours. I still can't do it. Any tips?

I did it by locating the sniper on the initial shot at the AI, watching that window (and surrounding windows) until he pops out, then taking one shot and strafing immediately afterwards. It took me a few bullets and 2-3 hits, but it was the easiest way for me to do it.

Where my checkpoint is at, the Russian dude is already covering. Should I start the mission over?

I was kinda pissed when I found out that shooting the under carrige of the tank with yuor bazooka dident work, like it did in COD:3.

I really dident care for this game at all, I was surpised that I ddient because I actually liked COD:3, but this game was a huge let down. Sure Nazi Zombie mode was fun, but it gets old fast, and the online co-op has so much lag 1/2 the time that its not even worth playing. 1/2 the MP maps look like refurbished COD 3 maps. In single player there where sevral ocasions where the Enemy AI, and Freindly AI would take cover on the same side of an object and just stare at each other and not do anything.

Uggh. I'm getting sick of this shit. The AI is dumb as fuck. They run past the Russain guy I'm with and shoot me and kill me. The Russian guy doesn't shoot the fucking dogs when they're right next to me and him. He just leaves the room. Veteran is so fucking frustrating. I'm about to kill someone.
I have COD:WAW on my PS3, but I'd like to trade it for the 360 version. If anyone is interested...
Don't waste your time, all the issues I had are with the 360 version. Its not any better.
Don't waste your time, all the issues I had are with the 360 version. Its not any better.
O rly? It's just that I got so good with the 360 controller on COD4, but I got COD:WAW on PS3... and I was sucking bad.

Probably just play through it anyways though... I dunno.

Its probally jst the game it's self. I was pretty good at COD:4 to, but I sucked at WaW, and I just couldent get into it enough to put the time in to ge better at it. After beating the single player, I put this game back in my console exactly 3 times to play a couple rounds of Nazi Zombis before trading it.

Does anyone still play this? Its on sale on amazon and was thinking of picking it up for the PS3. I dont really like CODMW2, and might go back to this. but im worried that most of the PS3 users moved on to CODMW2 and it wont last too long. I only want it for MP.
