Did I just fall victim to this Xbox live card scam?

I guess I'll add another voice to the fray...

I bought one of these "new subscriber only" cards last month before I found out that it might be a scam. It was an ebay buy, but it wasn't "Heather". It's worked fine so far, but I don't think it's been a month yet. Checked my account's expiration date, and sure enough, it says it expires this month. I'll update you guys in a few weeks when it either dies or "renews itself". Hopefully it lasts me, but after reading through this thread I'm not too confident about that.

What the hell is wrong with you? So you're not Heather, fine. Just means your her trailer trash baby daddy...

Either way, your upcoming ban (please mods?) ought to be good entertainment. You have the gall to wander in this thread, and insult AND threaten long established users? And even a mod? :dunce:

Bye bye.

Whatever... Notice that I didn't say I was GOING to do anything - as clearly boasts on the internets about beating people up are rather empty and pointless. The point was that in 3 years here I've never been so outraged by a post. Let's keep in mind here that you called a long-standing and classy member of this board (not to mention a mod) a "skank" and a "whore". And if you are not Heather (or closely affiliated with her) then why in the hell did you say "u fucking pansies go fuck urselves! esp. you tho guinavere for reporting me you whore!". How did she report you when that was your first ever post here? Unless, maybe, you are either the seller or in with the seller...

Whether or not the cards are valid at this point doesn't really matter. This seller (whoever that may actually be) has shown his or her true colors and ought to be avoided by any CAG.

Hey, somebody whose been here longer than a month and bought one of these things?! Bout time!

I'm in the same boat. Does anyone know how to figure out the EXACT date I created the account? I had guesstimated the date to be the 08/11/07 (as that's the day I bought the Xbox), but I can't remember if I set up the account that same day or not. I'm guessing I did though as I think the 360 asks you to set up an account when you first boot it up, so I figure I would have just done it at that point.

Well, if you created a Live account, you used a prepaid code, and you have an email addy associated with your gamertag, Microsoft automatically sends a confirmation email to the account after redeeming any prepaid code. So you might be able to use that for a date, if you still have it...

Yeah, I had the 1 month codes for Shadowrun and Halo 2 lying around, so I used them, it looks like this:

This mail is confirmation that you have successfully renewed Xbox Live Prepaid 1 month Gold Membership Card. The subscription will expire on Wednesday, March 04, 2009. Here is a description of the service:

This mail is confirmation that you have successfully renewed Xbox Live Prepaid 1 month Gold Membership Card. The subscription will expire on Saturday, April 04, 2009. Here is a description of the service:

And then if you change your type of payment, it looks like this:

This mail is confirmation that you have successfully renewed your subscription to Xbox Live 12 mo. Gold Membership. This renewal goes into effect on Saturday, April 04, 2009. Here is a description of the service:

Strangely, when I add months with those codes, it shows Dear *real name*, and when I changed my payment type from prepaid, to 12-month billed, it says Dear *gamertag* This was all done in the process of 5 minutes.

Good idea.

I do still have the email account (I just created a spare Comcast email for it, hence why I never even saw the message), and it says I registered it on 08/08/07. That confused the hell out of me, so I went back and looked at the receipt for the 360, and that said 08/08/07 too, so I have NO idea where the hell I got the 11th from.

Anyway, the account still appears to work. I haven't actually played an online match in a couple of days, but I logged onto the "Find a Match" screen on Quake 4 yesterday and today just to see if it would let me, and it did.

I'll try playing some actual matches tomorrow (Rainbow 6) and see if those work too.

What did the email say you signed up for? Did it specify a 12+1 month card, or just starting a trial month Gold sub?

If the confirmation emails are actually stating you used a 12+1 month code, they might be ligit...

Can you post the email itself?

Another idea: Go to live.xbox.com, log in with your gamertag account, go to "manage profile" under the drop down menu in the upper right corner, click on modify membership, and see what your current membership is. Mine states the card I most recently used.

I don't seem to have received an email for redeeming my 12+1 subscription code, although I have gotten emails for redeeming XBLA point codes.

Anyway, I checked my records and it looks like I bought the code on August 18, and I'm pretty sure I used it that day, so I should be finding out in a week whether it's legit.

I suspect that memberships run through the purchased time + the end of the month you're in, so I don't think you would find out until Oct 1st if it was a scam.

How about the idea in my edit above?

Good to know that it'll get me through a few days of Halo, at least. :)

The message on xbox.com lists my current subscription as "Xbox Live Prepaid 12 + 1 Month Gold Membership Card", so that's probably a good sign.

The email itself actually makes no mention of XBL. It just talks about signing up for "Windows Live ID." So unless it's somewhere hidden in the web of email addresses I use, I never got an email mentioning XBL at all. That certainly seems a little...weird.

Note: If you still want me to C&P the email, I can do that. I just don't think you'll find it very useful.

Signing into the XBL site though, it does say "Current Membership: Xbox Live Prepaid 12 + 1 Month Gold Membership Card."

So...yeah, these things get a big "whatever" from me. I'll just keep it going until the wheels fall off.

I bought a card from Heather before I went to this site, and she says she will send you the code instantly after payment. So I won the auction payed immediatly and the next day she has still not sent me the code. Feel like I got scammed. She doesnt respond to any of my messages.

This is Definately a Scam but I wish the Mods would have gave Heather more rope to hang herself, she obviously had a Digital camera, so she could have taken a photo of the BACK of this supposed 12+1 "NEW Gamertag only" card. I would LOVE to see where it says it's can't be used for renewal. In fact I bet it would look just like the back of ANY ligit card.I think this is exploiting a FLAW in the Live authencation server and I heard a RUMOR that MS is going to PERMABAN anyone who is currently using these cards, take it with a grain of salt....BUT BEWARE

The Attack of the Clones continues my friends... my god... there's too many of 'em! I can't shake 'em! OH GAWD *drowns in a pool of clones*

Link? I'd like to know MS's official stance on this.

Thank you for this thread. It has entertained almost daily me since 8/27. Thats more than I can say for some of the games I have bought. Heather, whether you are a dude with a GF or actually are that chick you should go out in style with an updated picture with the spoon and toilet paper and adding a CAG bracelet. The thread should then be forever locked.
Yeah the first code didnt work and the second did and its says it expires this month.
STOP!

Are we seriously led to believe that about 7 people (I exclude xenu), randomly hit this thread and fucking posted against this?!

Newb!

GTFO mai intanetz....

This is getting pretty rediculous

I'd believe it. Google hledford87 and this thread is #7. Google hledford87 scam and this is #1.

(Just a note: I find his viewpoint and statement here to be totally reasonable)

The reason I have only posted in this thread is because...I just don't really post that often. I'm a member of several message boards and I rarely post on any of them. I guess I'd be called a "lurker," but that's not out of being shy, it's just VERY rare that I feel I have anything worthwhile to contribute. This thread was actually one of those rare situations where I DID feel I had something to contribute.

If I am one of the Evil Clones from the Planet Juggs, what would my purpose in being here be? What is my "mission"? Don't just blindly yell "HE'S A WITCH!"; but think about, if I am here for dubious purposes, what my goal is. I'd assume my "mission" would be to convince people that Juggs is legit and people should buy these weirdo subscriptions from her. Right? Is there another covert, even more devious level to my plans? (that I'm actually missing right now)

Now, look at what I've posted thus far. If my goal was to convince people to buy these subscriptions I've done a HORRIBLE job (e.g., other posts where I say DO NOT BUY THESE THINGS or this) and will be getting a big fat "FAIL" when I get back to the homeworld.

I guess it's either that or I've just gone rogue.

As a fellow lurker (most places; I'm kinda active here) I understand entirely. I also think Evil Clones from the Planet Juggs should be a porno movie title. Perhaps we can googlebomb that phrase to this thread?

greatest thread ever. If anything i bought a gold account card for 12 months on amazon marketplace for like 35 bucks. Still works to this day. Although i don't recall anything about being for NEW accounts only.

So apparently "she" is still selling these. I checked out her feedback and positives almost everyday. I wish EBAY was better about these scams.

If only you guys would have gotten a few more pics out of her before you pissed her off!! :)

Why hasn't the OP updated us all on the status of his Xbox Live account? I'm not saying it isn't a scam, but I find it strange that he hasn't said anything lately.

Update on my account (I posted a few pages back):

It's still working fine, but the join date and expiration date both changed from 9/07 to 10/07. It's acting like a 1-month subscription that renews itself every month, I guess. The whole deal is still awfully fishy, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but it seems to work... for now, anyway.

Any updates on this? I came across her auction looking to renew my live.. After being sceptikal and searching around I stumbled upon here..

Great thread! LOL

Oh.. And wth doesn't ebay shut these down if they are indeed scams.. Looking for a cheap card almost every auction I go into has the "This is only for new accounts" which M$ft has said those don't even exist..
this makes no sence at all. i just recently bought a 12+1 month free card at the store. and when i entered it in guess what happen they gave me the 13 months. and it should my account was going to expire 13 months after not no one month shit.
Your probably just that ebayer scammer making new accounts. we should all report ebayer on this scammer and she should get arrested and raped in prison.
Wow,
This made my day.

Glad I'm Part Of Such A Funny Community.
Too Bad She Left, Or Him, What Ever Heather Was.

I was hoping to hear from some people on if her cards were legit or not she is selling 150 of them in a bulk lot and I was wondering if I should pull the trigger.

All signs point to no

Wow, this thing's still getting action?

Anyway, just an update:

My account still works. I got a message from Microsoft about two weeks ago telling me they noticed that the expiration date on my membership was wrong (it has continually just been saying that it would run out at the end of each month) and they would email me with the correct date. I never received the email, but I did notice that the date was changed to November of 2008 yesterday, so they must have done something.

So...yeah.
