Did you cry when you found out Obama won?

I voted no since I haven't really cried, but some of his speeches have gotten me a little teared up. He's really good at that shit.

No, I was happy as hell but didn't cry. I've gotten a little teared up at some speeches, but not at that one. But I was pretty drunk and was expecting a blow out win so that was probably part of it! :D

i was so excited that i think i might have cried it was crazy i never thought i would never see the day when a black man became president.

I cried when Barney bit the reporter. Such a spotless 8 year record thrown out the window with a little over 2 months to go.

*sniff* the pressure's getting to him, poor guy.

I guess Palin taught Barney how to go rogue.

Honestly, I shed a few tears during his victory speech. I lost it when he got to the portion about the 106-year old woman who cast her vote.

No, but I know a self-serving asshole who did:

Those were just tears of pain from Obama ripping his nuts off.

This is what made me cry. That bastard doesn't deserve to be happy. :bomb:

Technically, Warren G Harding was black. He didn't look black, but he was. Plus I think a few of the other presidents may have had some black heritage.

LOL, no. Personally, I haven't felt a single emotion since he became president, and am honestly baffled as to why the rest of the world was damn near partying because of it. Yes, it's historic. Yes, he's black. Now all I want is for him to get into office and do what he said he was going to do, but I doubt he will. I'm just that pissed and annoyed by government at this point.

I almost cried, it was almost as if I awoke from a long nightmare.

Literally my whole entire adult life has been marred by these con assholes.

Having African heritage doesn't mean you're black. I am hispanic, but I'm not a latino. Having dark skin is kinda the point. That's kinda where the discrimination comes from.

disco. perception = reality more than reality = reality.

I think I got more teared up by watching the older folks crying over it. Something about seeing an older black man reduced to tears of happiness because of what it represents. Hearing someone say that for years, their kids have had to aspire to be musicians and athletes and they can now aspire to be president and have an example that it can happen - that shit gets to me.

No, but I felt sick to my stomach and depressed all night (when I clicked the thread I wasn't sure if it meant cry from happiness or sadness).

Strangely enough, I was more affected by John McCain's speech than Obama (and I voted for Obama). I saw McCain as an old soldier who battled in a fight that he could never win and he was very gracious at the end. That's my interpretation of it anyways...

I think it would be the opposite. Assuming someone is black because of dark skin is where the discrimination comes from. Plus, if you are hispanic....that would make you hispanic. I don't actually get your point. If they wanted to say he will be our first dark skinned president, that would be different than african american. You don't have to be dark to be black. Just look at all the mixes.

I was also affected by the joy of other people. It was touching to see Colin Powell and Jesse Jackson overwrought with happiness.

Uh. No. Taxi drivers don't go by people with dark skin and "assume" they're black. Those people are black as much as they appear to be so.

Our President-elect has had trouble hailing a cab because of his appearance. He is considered black, he calls himself black. If something looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, you don't call it a turkey. Q.E.D.

What? I have no idea what you are talking about. I am not saying Obama isn't black. I am just saying we have had an african american president before. Kind of like an Albino black man.

I am not sure why you are referencing Taxi drivers, but I am simply stating that Obama is not the first president with African American roots. Nothing less, nothing more. You are kind of contradicting yourself by saying that someone must be dark to be black, and then saying that being black doesn't make you black.

I'm not saying anything other than we have had a president with black heritage. You are blowing it way out of proportion.

See, this is why the Métis have actual rules about this sort of shit. You don't qualify as Métis unless you both consider yourself Métis and are accepted by the community as Métis.

You're also supposed to be able to trace your roots back to Winnipeg, but whatever.

Which is pretty much exactly it. African roots do not a black man make. And I never said that we've never had a president with african heritage before, but that they were not black.

Well, according to people like Stanly Crouch, Obama isn't really black. You people have such short memories. You don't remember how Barak wasn't "black enough", or "talked like a white man", or any of the other garbage that came from the solidarity deficient democrat sub-factions?

He's the son of a Kenyan man and an American woman. He's a real African-
American, unlike 99% of those in America who call themselves that but have even less connection to Africa than I have to Ireland. But that just means Obama isn't a descendant of slaves, and can't claim to be a part of 400 years of victimhood. So, technically, he isn't a member of the fraternity that claims to have finally breached the presidential glass ceiling. He's only a member by association.

When a real black man gets elected, Like Dave Chapell, call me and I'll shed some tears that hope has finally won, and change has come to america.

Warren G. Harding = Black. Relate it to an Albino person. He was so lightskinned, people often took him for being white, which he wasn't. I don't even know why we are arguing about something so stupid anyway.

Layziebones - Harding may have been partially black (one of his great-grandmothers was rumored to have been black and also one of his great-great-grandfathers). It's not something that has been (or can be) absolutely confirmed, but it's also not really relevant to anything.

Harding may have been the first president with African blood, but he was far from a "light skinned black man" unless you go by the old racist one drop rule. He was far more white than he was black, so it seems odd to call him a black man.

Edited to add in his great-great-grandfather thing and not do math.

[/quote]You keep saying that everyone's forgotten/ignored that. I am assuming that this is so because whenever you bring it up, nobody talks about it. So I am going to talk about it, albeit mostly just for the sake of... well, talkinga about it.

...

Rightly or wrongly, does anyone here really care about what Stanly Crouch think in this case?

+1:)

I admit, I did tear up because of what it meant to the black community. Back when he announced his run for the presidency, I didn't think he really had a chance... but he's proved me, and a LOT of people wrong. He beat Hillary, who a lot of people thought had it in the bag for the presidency for 2008. It truly is remarkable... what would it mean if Barack had never ran for President? I don't think I would have experienced seeing a Black President in my lifetime.
