Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

My thought is: How the mighty have fallen.

Where is my ORIGINAL Square content? The Chrono series is nonexistant. Where's a Vagrant Story (or something similar)? Now they're not content with just making FF games, they're now making sequels off of old FF games. Pathetic. FFX-2, while decent froma gameplay standpoint (besides the mission based structure, which I have grown to hate between it and FFTA) felt tacked-on from a story standpoint. Light and flaky.

Now they are spawning two new properties off of what was a mediocre FF at best. Boo. Of course, that's not to say that I won't be checking these out. That's pretty sad, too, so I guess I'll shut up now.

They are really overdoing everything FF. They are coming out with a FFXI Expansion Pack, FF7 PS2 game, FF7 Cellphone game, FF7 movie, FFXII, and FF 1 and 2 Advanced. Its way too much.

I love Square and Final Fantasy, but I have to agree with most of everyone here in saying that they really need to slow down the Final Fantasy train. I would say they should start making some original stuff, but so far all their original stuff has been mediocre at best.
It's finally coming! The game sequel to FFVII is finally here. The title is in the topic, it's coming in 2005, and it stars Vincent. It takes place one year after Advent Children. What are you thoughts?

Jeez, I think me and you (EDIt: and zewone) are the only ones actually excited about this. also, I found out Advent Children may get a theatrical release.

I would get excited but the link doesn't work and I don't know what the hell he's talking about. I am excited about Advent Children. Just praying that it doesn't turn out like Spirits Within.

I must say that vincent was my favorite FF7 character but I would really appreciate if they'd stop making all these sequels and get FF12 out. The best part of square used to be the fact that none of the games delt with eachother each one was an entirely new adventure that was different from all the others.
The article says that Square Enix hasn't even released what type of game it is even going to be.
Didn't read your link. I got my news from a source I trust more earlier in the day.

WHAT? Where did you hear that it might get a theatrical release? That would be awesome!
In the latest EGM, we are told that Square Enix's president Yoichi Wada told a japanese gaming mag that a theatrical release isn't out of the question. It's only a maybe, but It could rock.

I just wanna make clear that I dissagree with the FF7 sucks sentiment being spewed.

I love FF7, but I don't want to see a sequal.

I too loved 7, and showed great excitement, but I would rather a completely new game too. i believe with Advent Children, there is no true need for ANOTHER one. It will probably be great, but the prospect of something new is enticing. Maybe even an entire NEW series.
Ugh. FF7 was more than enough FF7.
I agree. and wtf, square needs to get its act together and get back to what it used to be, no more sequels just to make money! I am waiting to see if FF12 is any good and I do NOT care aboutadvent children of FF7-2, what's up with this crap. plus theyre going back like 5 years to make a sequel to a game that doesnt need one. This game would in no way, shape or form expand on the story told in FF7 especially since its a prequel that doesnt even follow the one of the Main characters.

XII has a shitty battle system.

It's like the anti-fun.

And dude.. prequel? No? Where'd you get that from?

Sorry about the link, I've fixed that and added a link from IGN. It says that this'll be an action game in the same vein as DMC. Since Vincent is a vampire, it's not a bad combo. I'm not overly excited about this announcement, but lots of people have been asking for a sequel and all they got was AC. Now, they get an actual game and it's just not exciting them. I'll keep an eye and see how it develops.

Okay, well the obvious reason for that is this: it's not an RPG.

Do you think Jak and Daxter fans would be happy if Jak II had been a Tetris clone? No. Jak fans would want a true sequel to the platformer - not some spinoff.

Haha, I didn't really think that through before I typed it. I see what you mean. I'd still keep some interest in it, it still has just over a year to come together. By E3, we'll most likely get to see if this is a dud or a hit.

I didn't think that VII was really all that great, but wouldn't mind seeing a sequel. What kind of game is it going to be if not a sequel? Sorry, didn't read the article. I usually don't like sequels, unless they're done well. I loved X, and X-2. Go Figure.

hey cmon, they make new stuff, star ocean just came out, dragon quest viii coming in november (for japan), front mission 4, drakengard, and more are just around the corner, dont get mad just because they want to make some money

My memory must be failing. I played FF VII all the way through but I don't remember this Vincent character. I suppose I could refresh my neurons by reading a walkthrough but I feel uncompelled.

From GameFAQs:

Vincent Valentine
Age: 27
Weapon: Handguns, shotguns
Height: 6'
Birth date: October 13
Birthplace: unknown
Why use Vincent: Vincent is a long range attacker. Vincent has the third
highest magic stat [on average] in the game. Vincent has a great ultimate
weapon if you take the time to power it up, though it is possibly the worst if you do not take the time. His limit breaks are powerful, though you sacrifice the ability to control him when he uses them.

Now you can rest easy.

Not so much new stuff, but instead rehashes. FM4 is subpar, Drakengard is no good, but yes SO:3 is a great game. But c'mon! They need to make some fresh new games and rely less on sequels. We know Square CAN make great games when they try and it's time for them to blow us away with just that. That and a new Chrono game

dragon quest (warrior) viii will show that square can do it... well enix at least... come to think of it, SO3 enix... hmmm

I disagree. I think square has forsaken basic fundamentals and is stumbling in the dark trying to find the next big thing. They keep trying to force their wack new style down our throats hoping that one day we will give in.

Action?!?! Does anybody remember the action RPG that square release back when PS2 just came out? It was called the bouncer and it stunk! I hope that the's game doesn't turn out like that. :x

I'm excited to hear the news. Vincent was a character I loved a lot in FFVII, my favorite game of all time. I'm very glad to hear that the next FFVII spinoff is for PS2.

I think this game you are talking baut is for psp! Its like the old ff7 but you play as the shnirnia guys! Rude and Reno i belive. I want a ff7 remake kinda like the re remake fro gamecube! That would rock!

I lost interest in Final Fantasy after 6, actually 7 is the reason I stopped playing RPGs. Now when will they actually release a FINAL fantasy? The only way I would play this, is if Locke was in it.

I hope it turns out even worse than Bouncer, because frankly, I dislike FF7 fans and want them to suffer, if not hourly powerful electrical shocks to their genitalia, then at least a bad game. Maybe this sequel will finally kill all the nostalgic sentiment for the game and I won't ever have to hear that it's the best FF and/or RPG game ever anymore.

I hate FF fanboys as much as the next guy, but hating the game because of the fans who like it is pretty lame. It's time to distinguish between the two.

I can recognise the technical qualities of the game, it's just any fondness I had for it has long since been stripped away by the likes of Gamefaqs.

edit: see also: my feelings regarding Goldeneye and the Bond franchise in general.

I liked the story in FF7 and wouldn't mind a sequel IF

1) they make it more of a game and less of a movie (unlike FFX)

2) they can come up with a decent story and not have some hokey crap to try and tie it to the first game (FF7)

No. That's going to be a cellphone game.

And about this new Vincent game, I can't wait. Thank GOD its not another 8 billion hour FF RPG that I'll lose interest in after 3 weeks. If people don't like the idea, don't buy it. Let those of us who like different types of games have some fun for crying out loud.

And on the Squaresoft note, we need a new Chrono and Seiken Densetsu (one is in the works for PS2 last I heard).

The game does have one thing going for it, it's nostalgic value. People would like to see the world of FF7 again with enhanced graphics and alterations and remember when they fought a certain boss or saw a certain scene.

there comes a time in many gamers lives when they hate games for the wrong reasons...without even playing them....i was once guilty of this, and thankfully i got over it and moved on...now i am a better person because of this...im hoping that a few of you will too....good luck
