DiRT - Gen. Disscussion & Info. - Demo Out Now

I'll wait, i'm sure you can unlock the cars and video's by playing through the game. Not sure if its the same code for everyone or if its a different code for each pre-order. Either way, if its already on the disc, we'll get it eventually :)

I hate these damn pre-order/free stuff in game with codes shit. What a dastardly way to get pre-orders. Now, off to Amazon.com....

Anyone else love jacking up their cars like me?:

This game amazes me every time I play it. I did play F2 and it was pretty boring compared to this. I am a huge fan of Rallisport 2 and I wish it was BC :(
I'll be picking this up Day 1 if I have the cash, no problem! (first racing game i'll have EVER bought on launch day, for retail)

haven't played the demo on asphalt yet - does it act differently than the dirt? hope so... mind, I do enjoy the dirt, I'm just saying that'd be a pretty big miss.

I still can't beleive there's no traditional multiplayer, even for online...

The game is absolutely great, though.
Really!?

The listed features for the game state the following:

This is from OXM's review:

word for word:
+ remarkable graphics and crisp handling
+ vast career mode with a huge variety of events
- standard multiplayer is M.I.A.
? But how good is it gonna feel to beat 99 real live people in a race?

I guess the - & ? were because the multiplayer supposedly doesn't let you race with other people side by side. to be exact it said:
"the games multiplayer modes consist of either rallies or hill climbs - events that are all about one car on the track at a time. So in the game, you and up to 99 other people can race at the same time, but you don't see each other on the track."
Also it said:
"codemaster is well aware that no one will be pleased by the absence of traditional, more PGR like multiplayer, explaining that it instead chose to focus on graphics and handling this time and will add the multiplayer beef in Dirt 2."

Yea that's what I said lol. I think Dirt will be for people that love rally racing and single player as Forza 2 will be for customization fans and online play like the auction house and racing. In the end I'm buying Dirt on launch, I pre-ordered and I'll probably grab Forza 2 like around Christmas.

Oh if you want to see some cool gameplay footage head on over to Gamespot and watch the latest On the Spot. He drives a big Rig with a spoiler on the back up Pike's Peak! :applause: He also likes the menu interface. Well I'm in the mood for some rally racing now so RSC here I come.

Rock on, I can't wait for release. I've pre-ordered and I'm out in the boonies so that means I'll get it three days or more after release lol, sob...

Amazon is advertising ten extra cars with a pre-order from them (which will probably end sometime today). Are these cars only available through them and only through pre-orders like the Nissan car in Forza? Anyone even know what cars they are? I wanted to wait for a deal for a week, but I might just bite if the cars are good.

did you find anything out on those cars?

I wanted to pre-order but kept putting it off and now it's not available.

I'm looking forward to this game.

Some good reviews are out:
DiRT is one of the coolest racing games I have ever laid my hands on. Though the framerate is sometimes suspect, there's never been a racing game with this much detail.
I might have to pick this up as soon as I find a good sale on it.

I went to pick-up my preorder today at Gamestop and they still haven't gotten it in yet. I checked a few other local stores while I was out also and no one has it yet. Did anyone have any luck picking up a copy yet?

Played the demo and loved it. The graphics wowed me and I liked the handling compared to Forza 2 (demo).

Just debating whether to get it for 360 and PS3. PS3 ver wont come out till September tho.

i just picked up my pre-order copy at gamestop and he had no idea about the access codes. the guy yesterday said he thought they'd be bundled with them. some customer said he thought it was only a Best Buy thing, but that's not what Codemasters revealed. I'm emailing codemasters to see what's up. F$%#!

I was so excited after playing the demo and couldn't believe we finally had a RSC2 at hand.

Then I read about no system link/splitt screen 1v1 or "real" online racing. Guess I'll have to wait a few years till it drops to $20 or less and can set time aside for the career mode.

Finally got my preorder today! I have been playing for the last few hours and I must say this game was well worth the purchase. It would have been better with true online play, but I had a pretty good time with the online racing. Everybody in the session gets to vote on which race to run. Everyone races with the same car on the course that gets the top vote and even though you don't see or hear the other players it is still fun and competitive. The real fun though is in the career mode. The graphics are top notch and the racing is fast and fun, especially in the cockpit view. Racing a big rig up Pike's Peak in the cockpit view is a blast. The trucks and buggies are also fun and very competitive against the computer and would have been awesome with online. Other than the lack of online, the only real gripe I have so far is that I have seen a considerable amount of screen tearing. It may be my 360 though. Also, I think the cars handle a bit looser than RSC2, and do take a little getting used to...as with any rally game. All-in-all though, a pretty awesome game so far!

has anyone noticed that the chula vista track is so bright in some parts that it's hard to see the terrain? i should try dimming my tv i guess, but never had to adjust it for a particular game. hardpack dirt isn't THAT hard to read, i think that's what they might've been going for though. oh yeah, and gamestop's preorder access code cards are shipping late to some stores, so i should have mine this weekend hopefully.
Grabbed my copy today. Played for a while and damn its fun. Night all!
Soo... is the physics any where close to FM2? If not I'm not even gonna bother.
Soo... is the physics any where close to FM2? If not I'm not even gonna bother.
Car driving physics are nowhere near close to Forza. It's still the same old McRae rally racing, which means the cars don't exactly turn on their wheels, they pivot centrally. It's as if there's a pole in the middle of the car running vertically and when you turn, it pivots around that point. It's a little odd, but in rally, it works really well since you're drifting all over the place.
Hmm... sounds like the same ol codemasters promise and not deliver again. oh well. Thanks for the info. :goes back to FM2:
I wasn't aware of the background to this game--it just popped up. What were they promising? I can't imagine they wanted to change the gameplay of the McRae series all that much, so the controls don't bother me. If anything, it's probably the graphics and damage modeling that they built up during the game's infancy, right?

It all started with TOCA... I thought it was ground breaking because they had damage so early and it wasn't that fake either. The problem was the physics sucked. Everytime codemasters came out with a new racer i.e. TOCA, RD2, and now DiRT. They showed a variety of racing and a tried to do realizm looking cars and physics in the crash department but they were always dissappointing to drive. Looks like DiRT is no different.

yeah I had issues with control on this game myself it feels fast I mean really fast like 10 miles an hr feels like 30 fast which is weird. Turning also I swear I did a turn at 10 miles an hr and did a 180 it was the weirdest thing. I dunno I'm not fantastic at racing games in fact the last one I played was project gotham 2 but it seems like that one felt a lot better handled than this one as far as the way the cars really handle. The other thing I noticed is when I"m driving I keep hearing almost a backfire noise coming from the car before I've taken any damage it kind of makes me feel like I"m driving some 1970 clunker from like Uncle Buck or something. Graphically though its stunning as all get out.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Gamestop codes. MY GS didn't have them yet and the guy just gave me a Forza pre-order code. I'll have to go back in and check in a few days.

I have a couple of more gripes to add into my previous ones. First, as someone said there is some strange background noise going on during some races. A lot of the sound is absolutely fantastic IMO, but on some tracks I hear a high pitched whistling in the background and on some others I hear the clunking sound previously mentioned. I'm using my surround sound, so the sounds are even more amplified.

Also, the cars reset just about any time you go off the track. If you cross over the lawn just a little too deep on a #1 turn it will reset you after you've already gotten back on the track.

This game is so damn pretty though!....all these gripes become bearable when you're actually whizzing through these beautiful environments. I hope they fix these issues though in the next one as this series has the potential to be really great.

Physics wise, i don't see why people are comparing it to FM2. Seriously now, lets be reasonable...hardcore racing simulation versus hardcore rally racing. There's going to be a difference. The controls are loose, just like the demo, but thats simply because i'm coming from FM2 and playing DiRT. Give yourself roughly 5 minutes and you know how the vehicle feels. Its not that hard to get used to and the game is a blast.

As maccabe72 said, the game looks amazing. I could probably sit around just crashing for an hour like i did with the demo :p What i'm hoping for is that they take 5-10 of the best series in this game and put that in Race Driver One...perhaps the rally and CORR series to start with ;)

I dunno man I tried it and honestly it feels like my RL car could handle those corners better than the cars they have but then I suck at racing games to so my opinion on that is probably not to be trusted. Just felt like it was far to easy to spin out even at low speeds.

Has anyone seen any snow stages yet? I'm up to the 5th tier in career and have yet to see snow. Also, I just moved up to the quicker buggies...they are so damn fun!!!

I'm still waiting for my copy to be shipped from familyvideo, anyone else preorder from them and gotten their game? Ugh, good thing I'll be out of town this weekend which will take my mind off waiting for my game!

so How is the online? I've been playing all day today. Up to tier 4 in career and have been doing the tournaments right now.

I may try the online later tonight for the achievements. Anyone want to make a room for later tonight? Or is there even such a thing? I haven't checked it out yet.

Every once in a while a game comes up and smacks me around and says "You suck at everything." This is that game. I think I've played too much Burnout / NFS, and I can't do anytihng in this game postiviely (just played the demo).
