I'd just settle for being able to use all characters in every playset. There's no reason why they can't. Sure, some play sets from the first game, like Monsters University and Cars, require characters with specific skills to play, but there's none of that here. There really isn't any reason to restrict the characters, unless it's a concern of screwing up the lore, though Hulk, Cap, Hawkeye, and the rest show up in the cutscenes whether you own them or not, and there's text only on a majority of the interactions. They had no trouble with Syndrome and Davy Jones taking up arms against themselves in the first set, now they've got to justify why Nova and Rocket are involved in the Avengers, who exist in the same universe (even if they don't often cross paths). They should take a page from the Lego games and unlocking Free Play after you beat the set for the first time.
To me, this was the biggest disappointment. I can understand when there are graphical differences involved, but in most cases, there never was. Not being able to use Nick Fury in the Avengers playset is beyond ridiculous.

As far as Frozen, everyone complained that it was a huge missed opportunity that they didn't get their own game in 1.0. I remember an interview with the creators in which they said that Disney wouldn't release enough information about Frozen at the time for them to make a game about it. I wish they could've just made an add-on playpiece for 2.0 then, if that was the case. People would still buy it.

I'm guessing it's going to be the same excuse with BH6...they'll say that Disney had the film still in production at the time and they couldn't make them a playset.

Considering the development hell that Frozen went though, I'm not surprised that there wasn't a playset in 1.0 for it. Since the game released in August of last year, I would imagine development had to be finalized in July at the latest for testing to begin. Frozen was likely just finishing up its final draft at that point.

Not sure if this is old but I noticed my best buy had clearanced out all series 3 power disc packs, had them priced at $2.99 and an additional 50% off of that. With gcu I walked out with 3 packs for $4.xx. obviously ymmv but I thought it was worth mentioning.

It's not YMMV. That's the price on their website.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read you say there was an additional 50%.

Wasn't The Lone Ranger still in production when they made the playset? I'm so disappointed in the lack of non-Marvel playsets.

man, the starter pack for Disney 2.0 infinity for the PS4 was priced at. $19.99 at My local Toys R Us also. I hesitated on buying it, though. Biggest mistake made this week.
I know the Toys R Us sale is over, but after failed attempts at Best Buy Friday and today I got Walmart to Price Match it a few minutes ago. Walked out with 2.0 for Xbox One for $21.19 with tax. Just used the picture of the sign from TRU and told them I just left there and they were sold out and that its an in store only sale. Took 3 stores but saved me a lot.

I am also a bit shocked that the community is tolerating the lack of Disney playsets and in particular the increasing number of Toybox-only characters.

If you want the Marvel stuff (which I do) you're paying a really large amount for what you're getting compared to other video games, but at least you're getting a professionally created game.  User created content is great but so is having professional quality assurance testers fix the content before you spend your time on it.  By my count we're up to 18 toybox-only Disney characters at MSRP $14 each (20 with the two Tron characters) who can only be used in user created content and the two Disney minigames (MSRP $20 or else buy another starter).  (The other 20 Disney characters have playsets that are stuck in 1.0, which only runs on previous generation consoles.)

Am I missing something fundamental about this game?  Is the entire model based on three year olds getting their parents to buy figures so they can run around in circles and jump on stuff with characters who wouldn't ordinarily interact on screen?  I want to like this product (my kid probably will) and I am willing to pay for the thing despite the prices but it seems there's nothing you can even buy if you want an actual game with the Disney characters.  Maybe that product will be available for another MSRP $75 this holiday season if they don't decide to go 100% Star Wars with 3.0?

I agree...so many missed opportunities (Big Hero 6, Anyone?)
A well-rendered San Fransokyo would have been amazing in Disney Infinity.

I'd just settle for being able to use all characters in every playset. There's no reason why they can't.
I always thought that there should have been a reward that unlocked this in the first game - either for opening the vault, or for beating the quest storyline in the playset.

Wait Nick Fury can't be used in the Avengers playset?  That gigantic Frost Giant display thing I stupidly bought has a slot for him...

After finally getting to play it, I don't get why you would ever use one of the non-flying characters.  Even Hulk's ability to climb walls sucks in comparison to being able to fly...

I agree. That's why I always make sure to have the Avengers transforming bike nearby.

He can be used in the Ultimate Spider-Man playset, because his character design is actually from that show, I guess? And in the Avengers one he's an NPC, so that might be why. Either way, you can spawn in flying vehicles or just swap the figures to fly somewhere and then swap back to a character that's good at fighting (Iron Fist, Captain America, etc)

I didn't know the USM show existed until playing it, but I'm okay with anything that gives Iron Fist and White Tiger some props.

And on the subject of playsets, I wouldn't expect too much for the rest of this year since the Star Wars Infinity 3.0 thing will be coming out ~December. Maybe November.

The slot is for the yet to be released Loki, not Fury.

Yeah, I realize that they let you be the villains in the first one (the only playset I really played was Pirates), but at least there you can say that, maybe, Mater isn't right for the Incredibles universe or whatever.  But to not have Fury, when he's already involved in the story and obviously in the same universe anyway... ugh.  I kinda wish they would've just done an Ultimate Alliance type of straightforward game with figures that can persist between versions, even though I realize that's insane because it just makes a game more expensive to tie it into figures like that.

the other big problem to me is that they released this right after the Lego game came out... different artistic styles and all, but the Lego game is so much more fun.

Just a heads up, K-Mart has the the Disney Infinity 1.0 play sets on clearance. YMMV on certain playsets, but the Wreck-It-Ralph one is $19.99 for sure. I picked that up along with the Lone Ranger playset that was $9.99 (YMMV) and the Toy Story playset, which was priced at $21.00 (YMMV). In addition to that, for those that missed out on that Toys R Us misprint ($19.99) last week for the 2.0 starter packs... Game stop is selling both starter packs for $39.99 each for every console. It's still a much better deal than $74.99...

If you're still disappointed in the lack of content for Disney Originals keep letting Disney Interactive know. I keep (nicely) reminding John Vignocchi that we'd like more out of the game.

Marvel Starter packs are also 36 bucks with GCU this week at BBY.

I tweet Johnny V about Darkwing Duck and The Muppets regularly. In fact, I'm going to take credit for those items being in 2.0.

anyone has had luck getting GCU + the $5 off deal to work on BestBuy either online or B&M? I tried online today again with the new figures(GG and Ronan) and i only saw the GCU being applied but not the $5 off. Im gonna try going to BB during my lunch break and see if i can get it to work at B&M

It works instore

I ordered the new 3 plus a Hiro for in store pickup and it didn't take the extra off. I'll probably just do a return and rebuy when I get there.

Its not working online - won't take off more than one discount per transaction. Not sure if its an error or just a system limitation, but its the way it is.

They might adjust the failure to take off the second discount without needing to return and rebuy.

I've never bothered to look into this thing or even look at it at stores because I assumed it was a really kiddy game, but I got the Venom toy thingy as a gift on Christmas and I'm not sure what to do with it. I'll admit that the design is pretty cool looking, but do I sell it? Open and keep it on my shelf? This Disney Infinity stuff seems like it would get super expensive just to play with. Is the game actually worth playing as an adult?

If you like creative games where you can build structures and whatnot, you might dig it. (Think Minecraft without the mining part.) Outside of that it's more or less your average movie license-based style of gameplay.

I agree with Maximumzero. I'm an adult and I like it, but I also like the Lego games as well. If you want to get in to it, this week would be a good time if the Marvel game is $36 at BB with GCU. But to use your Venom figure I think you will also need to buy the Spiderman playset which costs even more money. It adds up, especially when I'm used to just buying games at low CAG prices. I think it's worth it, but it probably isn't if you're not into movie tie in style gameplay or creative gameplay like Mazimumzero explained.

I assume you have an uninformed non-gamer to thank for this gift; the MSRP for the Avengers starter ($75) and the Spiderman Playset ($35) so you can use that figure in its intended environment is $110, so if they knew what they were doing then they were trolling you pretty badly. Your figure is widely available and MSRP's for $14. Single figures have been discounted as low as $10. You can do the math for yourself whether the amount of money you'll get back attempting to resell it is worth your time or not.

Your next best bet may be to try the PC version of the game. The PC version is free to download and does not use the figures directly. However, when you buy DI stuff new, it comes with a DLC code that unlocks the same stuff in the PC game. So, you'd be able to log in, see how Venom looks, feels, and acts in user created content on the PC. Then you can either use the figure for decoration (I'd probably keep that one out if I owned it), sell it "used" (typically not expected to come with the DLC code), or save it if you actually decide to take the plunge on a console version. Also, if you actually like playing the thing on the PC, you can buy just the Spiderman set as DLC (PC version only), which should cost less than the retail version. (The physical version includes figures for Spidey and Nova but can't be used on your console until you procure a starter set to get the base and the software).

Waiting for UPS to deliver Ronan, Green Goblin and Yondu. Time to spend some time on Infinity and chill with the amiibo craze for a few days.

Please start tweeting about Gargoyles.

Ronan, who I was most looking forward to, was a let down when I popped him on the demo stand today. Lackluster moveset imo. Surprisingly Gobby looks to be the best of the bunch with Yondu looking good too. I got all 3 anyway because I needed Tink. I have every released figure now except for Anna which I just haven't bothered to order yet.

Personally, I think you should get a $40 Marvel starter pack. You have very little to lose. If you just play through the avengers playset and a few user levels and never touch it again, you've gotten your moneys worth already. However, if you get hooked . . . I wouldn't worry about the cost. If you need to get every last character, it will get expensive, but if you just get a few favorites, it won't be too bad. The playsets go on sale now and then, and if you wait long enough, they might clearance the current ones in favor of the Star Wars sets, or at least offer them in the $20-25 range (or less) like they did over the Thanksgiving to New Year stretch.

As for the games themselves, what makes them awesome is how they take each character and recreate them so well in both figure and in-game. Their look, mannerisms, and voice (many, especially the 1.0s, even use their original voice actors) are all spot-on, and it really captures what it's like to be Hulk, Nova, Spider-Man, or whomever. That's what make these worth playing. The games themselves are average - The Avengers has lots of destroy all targets, escort, and protect missions, and they repeat often, like several "follow these guys" missions that pretty much end up as fighting waves of enemies. The 2 others are a little better, with Spider-Man being more puzzle oriented, and GOTG focusing on gunplay and platforming, but none are on the level of say, Batman Arkham Asylum/City. As for the user-created levels, some of them are very good, some are awful and don't work right. You could create your own, or, a lot have the editor open, and you can modify them to fit your taste, which is just as fun as building them yourself from scratch.

The PC version is great, especially since every five days or so it gives you three new characters to play with for free, and you can test drive the playsets, but a lot is locked, such as the user-created levels unless you buy a starter set, so you won't get the full experience.

YMMV. Stopped by my local K-Mart today and in the electronics section they had a table full of cheap clearance stuff, and sitting there were a few 1.0 DI sets. They were the Toy Story set, the Lone Ranger set, and the Wreck it Ralph set. They were 20 each, and I'm fairly new to collecting these figures, so I picked them up. I saw some others talking about their K-Marts putting some DI stuff on sale. So if you are interested in getting some older sets, I'd look into stopping by a K-Mart.

I realized on the drive home tonight that after GCU, this weeks Best Buy sale effectively makes figures the same price as if a B2G1F sale were going on.

So the special edition Rocket is available for order from Gamestop. What makes that version worth $5 more?
Word of advice: if anyone is even remotely interested in this, pre-order it now. I had to conduct a search the likes of which no one should ever have to search for a toy for the LE Jack. I only found it by luck in one store 40 minutes away in the middle of nowhere some weeks after launch. And that's because I was calling around daily for it. (I love the Nightmare Before Christmas)

But I hate that it's Rocket. Just because I already have him. And since I have that LE Jack it's like I have to get Rocket.

Still cool though. Didn't think they were going to do the LE figures this time around. Messed up it's not for one of the new ones instead of one that's been out since launch. I would've loved to have seen Loki get his own LE.

I stopped by kmart yesterday picked up disney infinity starter pack wii u $20, funny regular wii version still $48, all the triple pack 20, cars pack $14.

I grabbed Ronan,Yondu, Green Goblin, and Captian America and a power disc pack yesterday from Best Buy. I got the last Goblin, there was only one extra Ronan, and a few left of Yondu. Is stock of new released figures generally this low,or were they just selling really well?

Second this. Jack was pretty much pre-order only, no store around here had extras. Had to check inventory constantly waiting for a store to have someone return/cancel, or not pick up at all.

I was in Sam's Club a few days ago and happened to find a Syndrome and Randall(X10) sitting on the shelf under the video game area. The figures were marked $10.82, but the shelf was marked $7.81. Rang up $7.81 each. Pretty awesome price for figures that I have bid on a bunch of times and couldn't find anywhere locally. Of course my son doesn't want to play with them because they are villians, but at least we have all of the rare/hard to find characters out of the way now. Hopefully other people will have luck finding them at Sam's. By the way, I go to this store often and this is the first time that I have found more than the regular Disney Infinity layout(Frozen, Pirates and Woody).

My store got 4 of each and all that was left was 1 Ronan by afternoon.

Its just a case right? Thats the only thing special about it? I'll stick with my Snapware

If it's just like the Jack LE, yes. It is exactly like the three-pack red base 'pods' (which still irks me that Ralph doesn't fit in), but with a custom base. The figure itself is no different.

Jack seems to be consistently reselling in the $40-$50 range if still in the packaging, if that matters.

Can anyone tell me how much the figures wind up being with the $5 off two plus GCU? The math is different depending on where in the process they take off the $5.

($13.99+$13.99 - $5) * 0.8 = $9.19/ea

($13.99+$13.99 * 0.8) - $5 = $8.69/ea
