Disney TV on sale - X-Men, Iron Man, Gargoyles

It's crazy how ahead of its time this show was. Character development and multiple-episode plot arcs (not just consecutive episodes either, they'd casually call back to events from a season or two prior), just fantastic stuff.

Then you've obviously never watched anime. Batman, while one of the best shows made in the west, isn't as innovative as you are making it seem.

Okay, well it does that without the usual anime tropes.

At that point in time, I hadn't seen many anime shows, mostly the OVAs and movies that sci-fi showed on Saturday mornings.

I received my volume 5 of X-Men but it didn't have a slip cover, I don't remember if ever did have one when I saw it in store. So my question is did it?

Yep, there's a slip cover for all the volumes. The only problem is that they were limited to the first run of the disc so they're getting more difficult to find now.

I got slip covers on 4 of the 5 sets (vol 5 missing as well). I was chocking it up to it being released later than the other sets and it falling into a different packaging process. Now that I know there was a slipcover I may be making a few retail stops this weekend to track one down.

I managed to get a slipcover on my order for volume 5 on this sale. I got the slips for each volume except 2 for some reason, which I ordered at launch. Weird but oh well.

Just wanted to chime in, this may be a little obvious to everyone, but since it wasn't mentioned: I went to Walmart.com to see if I could locate stock instore for Gargoyles. You can't, but you can do Free Ship to Store. Both sets are available for 9.00 and can use this feature. Good times, I'm thinking I'll stop at the Walmart on the way home and if I strike out, make the order tonight.
I highly recommend rewatching Batman: TAS. I picked up the whole series a few months back when all the seasons were on sale. I've been rewatching it with my little brother who was ~3-4 when the show was originally on. It's crazy how ahead of its time this show was. Character development and multiple-episode plot arcs (not just consecutive episodes either, they'd casually call back to events from a season or two prior), just fantastic stuff.
Batman: TAS was BEFORE Gargoyles. My post was talking of regret of newer cartoons never having that level of sophistication nowadays.

The Avengers cartoon that's on right now is pretty good, but kinda simplistic.

Woah, really? I gotta say that $8 a month instant streaming membership from Netflix is sounding mighty tempting.
just a quick reminder, all of these series' are coming to netflix instant streaming. It was announced a few weeks ago.
Link? AFAIK, the deal a few weeks ago was only for more recent Marvel comics, like the Iron Man cartoon with god-awful art direction.

I've seen a few episodes of this show, it's pretty fun.

Video quality is very high quality too.

No it included everything from Spider-Man to X-men. to the 60's show of spider-man, and such.
Jesus, Spidey's starred in a lot of cartoons.
That's only the tip of the iceburg. You also got Spider-Man: Unlimited, the CGI MTV Spider-Man, the Spectacular Spider-Man, and probably more I'm not remembering.

Hey look, my childhood is coming to Netflix, that is nice.
The first Volume of X-men has dropped to $9.49: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938731&pf_rd_i=507846

I was about to bite on this, but now that I know it's coming to Netflix I'll just wait to watch it that way.
I just bought Volume 3 for the hell of it. I love everything X-men, so I need these for a collection. Great prices for what you get. Im missing slipcovers on the first 2 volumes I have, I got the early shipments without slipcovers. (yes the FIRST shipments were slipcoverless, not the later more refined shipments).

If vol 1 or 2 drop any lower I might consider Re-buying them for the Slips alone.
This.

I loved the show as a kid, and a year ago I recorded every episode on the DVR from Disney XD (R.I.P. Toon Disney)'s middle of the freakin night broadcast and watched the whole series as an adult. It is incredible how strong the show is today, to think this was an animated series from 1995, and by Disney no less!

Why can't we get more animated series this well written that stands tall against even modern adult entertainment? I feel the only animated programs that have gotten close or on equal footing with Gargoyles is certain animes, like Cowboy Bebop.

I truly do hope that the creators get to continue the series someday outside of comics (which seemed to have stopped a couple years back...), but as long as Disney holds the rights, it's not going to happen.
Yeah, I can't think of any other kid's show with so many references to Shakespeare plays. I didn't get any of that as a kid, but it's pretty cool now watching it and understanding the references.
