Do you want Obama to fail?

Truthfully, having good looks doesn't hurt in any endeavor, whether it's getting elected to office or otherwise.

Very true. People gravitate toward good looking people of either sex. The philosophy is that you can't bang hot girls if you hang out with ugly ones. Also, hot guys attract hot girls and you can get rejects that you could never get if you hung out with ugly guys.
Welcome to the American media and the American voter.
The American media has clear agendas, some of which you outline.
The American voter stopped voting based on pure policies decades ago. The election is very much American Idol on a much bigger and more serious scale. Seriously. It's more a popularity contest than anything. If you want to prove me wrong, find at least one classically "ugly" president in the past century.
I think you went wrong when tried to define a pattern of winners based on physical beauty. I think if you looked at a factor like charisma it would be closer to the truth. Although there are still exceptions (like Nixon).

Slightly OT, but I'm getting a little sick of all these TV/movie women presidents. Yes, I realize it's the hip thing to do now that portraying a black president is passe, but would it kill Hollywood to mix it up just a little? There are alot of possiblities, why not have a communist president, a president with six wives or a guy who's married to a horse.
I ask this because of something i've noticed at my work place. First just know that most of the people there are pretty heavily conservative. I don't care personally and don't even like to talk politics with people i have to see a lot. However, i've noticed that most of the people i work with do nothing to hide their disdain for Obama. Even going so far as to practically dance around the room whenever something negative is said about Obama in the news. They seem genuinely happy about it.

Now some might think that i felt the same way whenever Bush screwed up. I won't lie to you and say i was surprised, but i wasn't happy about it either. It upset me that the president of the country was seen as a walking joke to much of the world. Whenever i heard another speech flub or other mistake, i cringed, i didn't do a happy dance around the room.
That pretty much sums it up.

I knew people personally that took great delight in President Bush failing so it shouldn't be a surprised that some want to see Obama fail. Personally, I think people need to push their ideologies to the side and give a people a chance to do their job, THEN make up their minds about them. Liberals blasting conservative presidents and conservatives blasting liberal presidents shouldn't be all that surprising.

That's why they say politics and religion are two things you don't talk about. Politics can take an otherwise rational person and turn them into opinionated, stubborn, close-minded Monday morning politicians that will attack ego instead of idea.

I hope Obama does well for the country, as I would a conservative as long as they realize that moderate tendencies can help them. I just get tired of the bitching from both sides to be honest.

Strell pretty much summed up what I was thinking, just in a more entertaining way.

It depends on what your asking about? I want him to fail at making this country worse. I'd like him to fail at pissing away tax dollars on "back scratching". I want him to fail at being a self serving dick.

Thing is... even if he "succeeds" (at what, who the fuck knows) the general populace is still screwed. It's not possible to "fix" the government. It's "broken" because bad people can make money off of it. Bad people don't play nice, that's why they're fucking called bad. You fuck with their money and you're dead.

The American population is so institutionalized all you have to do to avert a scandal and hold up a baby and say "FAMILY VALUES". Ergo, if you think he was wrong, you hate families and America.

I don't vote. I doubt I ever will. When asked why I say they're both crooked fuckers just looking to screw me. Then I hear some bull shit about it being my duty to pick the lesser of two evils... How is that even a valid argument? Pick the one that will fuck you over less? I don't want to know I voted for the guy that did the least worst job, I want someone who will do A GOOD JOB. Frankly, that's impossible because anyone with both the means and desire to take public office doesn't deserve it. Anyone that actually would do good has an "accident", or at the minimum gets blackballed.

You can't change shit. Sure, write your congressmen and he'll laugh at your ass and throw away your letter with 2 others he got. If you really thought you could enact change, you wouldn't be posting on a gaming forum, you'd be out going door to door looking for support... and being ignored by people posting on gaming forums.

When it comes down to it, the average person either isn't smart enough to do anything or already has enough bullshit to deal with without spearheading a futile attempt to revolutionize the government. It's set up to look like a good system, but it gives the shaft to the people that can't do a damn thing about it. The only real checks and balances are in place to keep the status quo.

So... much like Aliens Vs. Predator: Whoever Wins, We Lose.

But I do believe we'll see some attempt at a global currency pretty soon. Or at the very least, some new currency that covers more than just one country.
...You mean like the Euro? :whistle2:s
If you really believe Americans are that stupid, and Bush won because that's a guy they'd like to have a beer with, then why did Obama win?
Because they want to share a joint with him?

Really, I think he only won because he was black. People got sick of being buttfucked by the old rich white man... now they're just going to get buttfucked by the young rich black guy... and his junk is bigger.

In regards to lilboo, I think that Obama is one of the few truly handsome presidents. He and Kennedy have a certain style to them that other presidents just don't have IMO.

Food for thought - Anyone ever feel like politics is the new religion?

I absolutely agree. Obama is actually kinda bangin. I seen that shirtless pic.

I'd be more then happy to be his Lewisnky.

Yeah, and I'm still an atheist.

Speaking of the Clintons...

I always thought it was odd that Bill Clinton was always jogging, yet he maintained the physique of Fred Flintstone.

If nothing else Obama makes me feel like an ass for not exercising due to my "busy schedule". If he can make time to be in great shape then anyone can.
That's because Bill liked to drink alot. How do you think he convinced all those girls? A little brandy goes along way.
Wouldn't the girls need the brandy more than him in that case?

Not when they look like Monica...

Lesbians have personalities and carnal desires, I think the term you're looking for is, "soulless, power hungry automaton."

But, hey, first President whose hand I shook, so that counts for something.

My sister got to get President Obama to sign a pic of her son, my nephew, when he came to Martinsville last year. My nephew's name is Barak as well.
Interesting. Then I would like you to name for me 5 members of congress you believe are more left. Boxer and Pelosi don't count since almost nobody takes them seriously :).
Well, you did take two away who are further left than Obama. Keep in mind Obama was named "most liberal senator" by National Journal, but most likely this only happened because he didn't show up for the non-controversial votes (he was campaigning).

In any case, here are five off the top of my head that are definitely more liberal than Obama, in addition to Pelosi and Boxer:

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
Sen. Bernard Sanders (I-VT) - a socialist
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA)
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY)

National Journal said the same thing about Kerry during his campaign 4 years ago. Too coincidental to be considered seriously, IMO.

And wasn't Sanders a Republican until a few years ago? Not questioning your claim (directly), but I want to make sure I'm thinking of the same person.

And no Kucinich? For shame.

Sanders was never a Republican, always an independent (and an unabashed socialist). You're probably thinking of Sen. Jim Jeffords, a Vermont Republican who switched to caucusing with the Democrats and gave them control of the Senate for a short period under W.

And Kucinich would qualify, for sure. As would probably a dozen more House members if Thrust wants a list, but there's no real need. Obama is certainly liberal, but there are a decent amount of more liberal members, especially if you consider the way he's picked his Cabinet and run his administration so far (two Republicans in the Cabinet with a third nominated, for example).

You have to be an idiot to want to see your president fail. I didn't like Bush at all but I didn't like it when he failed either.
What is "the Dream" he's supposed to be dreaming?

:whistle2:s
I would assume the "dream" is achieving want you want to do with your life when you get older. It will be neat for my nephew to have that signed pic with him when he is old enough to go to school and start thinking about what he wants to be.
He won't have time to fail. He'll probably be killed before that.
And it's a shame that's what is probably going to happen, :wall:  @ this country.
I'm just surprised that Hupp still comes to CAG. Most trolls of his quality disappear by this time.

And, um... to get back on topic... um... yes, uh... Obama will fail... at... uh... not being in my dreams?

Here Kayden, I'll bite. But I'll quote in the correct manner.

Greed overtaking all. That's kind of what got us into all this bullshit to begin with, aye?

Which reminds me - I really hate how I have to live with the fact that what these people did - no matter how absolutely inhuman and evil - isn't criminal, and therefore can't call for prosecution. That's just....amazing. The situation were in, and there's no one to saddle a little blame to? Incredible. Makes me wish we could retroactively enact a law, call this illegal, then nab all the bastards responsible. 'Course I know shit about judiciary proceedings, but I'm going to imagine this is 100% out of the question.

The American population is so institutionalized all you have to do to avert a scandal and hold up a baby and say "FAMILY VALUES". Ergo, if you think he was wrong, you hate families and America.

Pick the one that will fuck you over less? I don't want to know I voted for the guy that did the least worst job, I want someone who will do A GOOD JOB.

Sadly most people consider those things equal, so eh. Calvin and Hobbes tackled this really succinctly in the following manner:

I'd be crying if it weren't so fucking funny. I guess I could cry from laughter, but I don't know if I'm programmed with that many large emotions.

Frankly, that's impossible because anyone with both the means and desire to take public office doesn't deserve it. Anyone that actually would do good has an "accident", or at the minimum gets blackballed.

Or gets blocked from ever showing up to begin with. Bill Gates did buy out HyperglobalCompumeganet after all.

I've fantasized about picking up a megaphone and just walking down the street screaming fuck ALL THIS BULLSHIT, and seeing if I could actually get people to follow me. Unfortunately I'd probably just get dickpunched by the police around here in the midst of laughter from all the idiotic conservatives.

When it comes down to it, the average person either isn't smart enough to do anything or already has enough bullshit to deal with without spearheading a futile attempt to revolutionize the government.

Or doesn't care. That's been your whole basic argument all along.

It's set up to look like a good system,

Naw. It's set up to simply exist and allow people a thing to focus on under the guise of a choice, as well as the idea that "hey, there's others out there on my behalf."

Which is sort of like thinking McDonald's is looking out for my basic livelihood by providing me with food.

but it gives the shaft to the people that can't do a damn thing about it. The only real checks and balances are in place to keep the status quo.

So... much like Aliens Vs. Predator: Whoever Wins, We Lose.

COMING THIS SUMMER

Really, I think he only won because he was black. People got sick of being buttfucked by the old rich white man... now they're just going to get buttfucked by the young rich black guy... and his junk is bigger.

And he dances better too.

I know not many people like Micheal Moore, and I don't consider myself a fan, but I did read his book...I think it's called Stupid White Men or something, and he had a whole chapter dedicated to the idea that everyone who had fucked him over in his life had been white. He hadn't been mugged or assaulted by gang members, or any of the other popular minority-stricken paranoias. Instead, he'd lost jobs, had women cheat on him, etc etc etc, all of whom were white.

To this day I think he was onto something. I think I'd rather like to be fucked by a black dood for once.

Gimme some tips, lilboo.

Strell - if you can meet me half-way, I'll bring the megaphone.

And some dirty hippies if I have enough time to really get organized.
