Do you wear glasses/contacts?

Contacts for mobility (out of the house). Glasses for leisure and convenience (around the house, when I wake up in the morning, going to get the mail, etc).

Glasses are real nice to have especially when you're playing videogames/watching movies in the dark since contacts usual dry out quickly (and suck in your eye) if you look at the focused light for long periods of time.
90% of those polled on a gaming site wear glasses or contacts. Who said staring at a screen for extended periods of time isn't bad for your eyes? :)

Glasses at 5, contacts at 12. The more you want to lose the glasses, the easier it is to get used to contacts. I can reach up touch my eye and it doesn't bother me at all.
Or it could be that glasses killed enough social lives so that gaming became an attractive occupation XD

ive been wearing glasses since i was 5 and now im 23 allmost 24 i remember not being able to read the chalkboard in school, i get really bad headaches if i dont wear my glasses, i cant legally drive without them cause i start getting double vision

i've had glasses since 7th grade, but I've always wondered about using contacts. something about putting that small of a thing into my eyes though kind of turns me off on the idea.

I have had glasses since the 5th grade IIRC. My eyesight is really poor without them.

I tried contacts about 15 years ago but they gave me headaches too much.

Not really sure how long I've been wearing glasses. I'd say at least 10 years, if not longer (turning 21 in about a month). My eyesight is just awful though (if I'm not wearing my glasses). Actually got a new pair a few months ago, and if I get the normal lenses (I pay slightly more for the thinner ones), the thickness is...I think 6.75 or something? Not sure of my actual vision though.

Not really sure what I would look like without glasses, but would maybe want surgery if I wanted to get rid of them. Not so much contacts though. Don't think I could touch my eyes like that. Too bad I don't like spending that kind of money all at once, so may never actually get surgery.

I wear my glasses when I am around the house and use my contacts when I go out. I have the Focus Daily contacts that you use one day and then throw them away so I can choose when I want to wear glasses or contacts.

I wouldn't worry about getting the contacts in your eyes, it will feel weird at first but I can literally touch my eye without the contacts in and I wont blink.

I've had glasses for about 14 years, since I was 11. The past 3 years though I've switched between glasses and contacts, usually wearing the contacts when I go to work or have something planned, and wearing the glasses around the house.
Or it could be that glasses killed enough social lives so that gaming became an attractive occupation XD
I played games and looked at monitors/TVs for 16+ hours a day before I started wearing glasses.

I kind of hate that fact that before my glasses, I didn't think things looked that bad. However, since I got them, its like I can't go without wearing them. Like right now, I'm kind of in a crappy/tired mood and didn't feel like wearing them around my apartment. As I'm trying to type this post or check out the net, its like my laptop screen (things around me) is a bit blurry. I can still somewhat see, but I have to squint to see a bit more clear. Ugh, seems like glasses made my eyes worse because I have to depend on them.

I'll definitely look into some contacts people mentioned down the road, but kind of hate having the contacts in my eyes if I just randomly fall asleep (which I do at times).

Glasses didn't make your eyes worse, you just didn't realize how clear your vision should be if 20/20 until you wore them. Now when you take them off you notice the difference.

It's not big deal to fall asleep in contacts, especially disposables. Just toss them when you get up. I had some my eye doctor had me sleeping in and changing every week or two a few years ago, but didn't like it as they were uncomfortable for a bit in the mornings. But in any case, nothing to worry falling asleep in with disposables.

I remember a friend of mine left his contacts in for a long time once, he ended up with a really bad eye infection. Obviously don't leave them in too long if you aren't supposed to.

Yep, even the kind that are made to sleep in can cause eye infection problems.

But falling asleep with them in--especially disposables--every once in a while is nothing to worry about.

Perfect vision all my life til my senior year of college. Now its just almost perfect since I had to get glasses to read the board during some of the larger, lecture-sized classes that last year.

I forget how it goes, but one of my eyes is -0.25 and the other is -0.50, so its mostly negligible.

I was pretty nearsighted and starting wearing glasses in the third grade. I started wearing contacts sometime between my senior year of HS and freshman year of college, but I would still wear my glasses every now and then. Contacts do take some getting used to, but they were great after you got comfortable wearing them. I would sometimes get lazy and sleep in them, which you aren't supposed to do unless you wear the type that are designed for that. I would have one fold up in my eye every now and then...annoying. But overall, I preferred contacts cause I was a competitive shooter in college, and my glasses would sometimes get in the way.

Two years ago, I had LASIK surgery and I haven't regretted the decision. Fortunately, the insurance I had at the time covered 50% of the surgery cost.

Before I moved to Las Vegas, I wore contacts. But the air is so dry out here my lenses always fall out, and I've tried so many brands. So I finally gave in and got some glasses.

Sweet zombie Jesus, are glasses expensive! If I lose them, its $500+ to replace them...and I don't even have designer frames.

I do keep a box of disposable contacts handy for when I go out of town and on vacation. There is nothing more annoying than having to worry about losing your glasses on vacation.

And I find that my vision is way better with contacts, than with glasses...when my contacts stay in, that is.

I've thought about getting laser surgery, but my doctor suggested I wait until I was older, and finished having children to have it done. I guess it turns out if you are female and have children, there is a possibility that pregnancy will cause permanent vision changes, which might require you to have laser surgery done AGAIN later to correct it. I might as well wait it out.

I thought spending $300 on my pair was too much. :whistle2:( I could have saved myself money if the people at the optometrist office didn't convince me to go with iZON lenses.

got glasses at about 8 or 9, started wearing contacts by 11. Wore them until oh... 22 or so. Got tired of the maintenance and the bullshit, easier to just have some plastic on my face :)

Plus, wearing glasses has gotten "cooler" in the last 10 years, not that that was my primary concern.

Would love surgery, though it's freakin scary, but for now expense keeps it out of my reach.

That's why daily disposables are the way to go, no maintenance.

I don't mind my glasses (wearing them today). But I can't stand them on days I go to the gym or do anything active--or anything outside since I'd rather go with contacts and sunglasses etc.

A small bit of coating (on the front of my glasses) just chipped off (I guess because I bumped the glasses) and looks so tacky (basically, mine are black and there's this tiny bit of silver showing on top). Ugh, I might just go without wearing glasses for a long time (maybe several months) even if things look a bit blurry and I have to deal w/ headaches again.

Just chip it in some other places, then it's decoration. Didn't you pay a shit ton for those frames?
Previously when I got answered this question, I'd say no. However, I avoided getting my eyes checked for years and one of my co-workers got me to do it. I ended up finding out I really needed to be wearing glasses (due to bad astigmatism along with finding out I was far sighted in one eye, and another eye heading towards near sighted). It was tough to tell I needed vision correction since my eyes were use to adjusting to see properly (although I had a headache almost everyday) and they somewhat canceled each other out. Since I started wearing glasses, its like I can't see that great with them off and I start to get headaches (wearing them has completely removed my headaches).

I hope to get contacts sometime, but worry a little about not being able to get them in my eye since I flinch when stuff comes near my eyes.
I also haven't checked my eyes in a couple of years and after my first check up the docter said I needed perscrtbtion glasses for astigmatism on both eyes. I really want contacts though.

Don't do that, you'll get used to not wearing them, and it could mess with your eyes (wearing specs does make them changeshape over time.) Call the place you got them and see if they have a warranty on them... you might be able to have them replaced. Otherwise- go buy a sharpie, a paint pen, a cheap bottle of black nail polish- it can't be that hard to just over it up.
Didn't you pay a shit ton for those frames?
You pay a shit ton for damn near any frames. Glasses are expensive. Take mine- right now they have a slight ring on one lens from the anti-scratch/anti-reflect coating peeling of the edges, a deep scratch near the nose piece on the other (got hit by a falling basket at work, knocked 'em off my face), and mismatched nose clips becuase one broke off and the replacements in my eyeglass kits were all bigger. As I remember, at full price, they would have been something like $600. (At the time, the combination of a half-off sale at Sears optical and still having good insurance dropped that to just about $100.) Depending on how much I have left over after the con & wedding I'm attending in April, I may go get a new pair... but I wouldn't even consider it unless I had at least $700 around.

Personally, I don't mind- this isn't some toy or frivolous thing, I NEED these. I'm not going to cheap out on my ability to actually see things. (It's just a pain getting the money together.)

You can get toric contact lenses for astigmatism. Tend to be a bit pricier but you can get contacts for astigmatism.

hmmm, i cant remember when my last appointment was, i should be just about due for my annual exam, and that means my job gets to buy me new glasses

(It's just a pain getting the money together.)
I have insurance at work, so I'm eligible for new lenses each year (unless I get special ones like the last one I got) and $120 off of frames every 2 years. I wish we got the discount on frames everywhere. Also contact discounts, but we can't get both during the same benefit time.

Well, I ended up going to the optometrist after work today (just nearby). They said they would give me brand new frames, but had to pay $20. I went ahead with it. My co-workers told me I better wear my glasses all the time due to having the astigmatism I do, both eyes being quite different, along with getting a ton of headaches when they aren't on (so my eyes adjust to them). At first when getting the glasses, my eyes found them difficult to wear. As my eyes adjusted, I could see really well with them, and not wearing them I couldn't see too well. When I went to work today without them, everything looked blurry and wasn't feeling that great. Eventually I just put them on, regardless of issue, and everything looked much better (and headache went away). Who knows, I did go many years without wearing glasses and I was okay (I seemed to have needed them for a while). I still take them off at various times worried they'll hurt my chances of getting a girlfriend, don't want my parents to know I got them just yet, etc.

The main expensive thing was my lenses, costing me around $200 (due to getting iZon lenses).

TMK, please tell us how you got iZon lenses again. It's a fascinating story, one that I feel that we all need to hear again.

They said it would make me see HD vision, reduce glare at night, and they are suited to fit my eye (where only I would see well with them on). My co-worker fell for it and so did I. He told me (he has worn glasses for years) that they don't make all that big of a difference and feel ripped off, although I notice I see much better (but I never got standard lenses before). They took over two weeks to get though. The ladies at the eye doctor were nice. Got talking w/ one girl there who could tell I was a gamer by looking at my eyes and started discussing games w/ me.

Your parents won't care and neither will any girl worth dating. Hell, one of my best friends has a glasses fetish and wishes her boyfriend's vision sucked so he'd get a set.

The more you wear them, the better they'll feel (your face will get used to the weight) and the better you'll see- you'll adjust to the lenses and learn to focus foward, so you won't notice the rims of the glasses anymore. You really should just wear 'em.
