Do you wish that the PS3 came with a LONGER warranty?
Why would you spend 140 for used BR drive when you spend 67 dollars and swap out the lasers yourselves? It seems more logical.
AFAIK you can't even switch the whole drive, only the laser.
i might be needing a repair already after like 2 months. for some reason, my PS3 won't read any of my discs.
Did you buy it new? If so, hopefully you kept the receipt or paid with a credit card so the store you got it from can print up a copy of the receipt.

Why, you might ask? Well, this gen Sony has decided that you NEED to give them a copy of the receipt showing where you bought the PS3 and for how much to get in-warranty service. Without the receipt, you're looking at paying $150 PLUS the cost of shipping it to them.

WITH the receipt though, they'll ship you a prepaid box to ship it back to them in. You can request the box from Sony's website or call their customer service line at 1-800-345-SONY(7669).

Actually, the one website is selling the full drive for $130 or so I think and just the BR lens for $70 or so. But just like the PS2's last gen, you have to make sure you're getting the right lens for your system, as there are several variations.

There are places you can take your systems to get them fixed. My friend did his with his 360 and paid about $80. I think consoles should come with a 3 year warranty. I bought an 80 gb back in December of 2007. Within 2 months it stopped reading games and working. Sony fixed it and it has been working like a champ since. Knock on wood.
Buy with a credit card that doubles 1-year warranties. Instant extra year coverage.
Every credit card varies, some may or may not have this clause in their contract. Basically the ones that do will "double" your warranty by reimbursing your charges for any repairs made on the product in the extended part of the warranty after you file/notify them.
A longer warranty would definitely be great but 1 year is fine IMO. It's a console made by a company that specializes and has made consumer electronics for decades and knows how reliable their product is after proper R&D, unlike a certain software maker that can't get their console fixed after years on the market due to design flaws.
Hah this is funny to me. How bout those PS1's and PS2's for the first couple years...

Well I ordered it (actually my sister did) online from Dell when they had the 20% off things. I have the receipt that came with the shipment of my PS3 from Dell which lists the item and date. Hopefully that is good enough.
