No, the PS3 is an amazing product and you're lucky you got a year. It's not like it breaks like the 360 does, yuk yuk.
If by amazing, you mean amazingly EXPENSIVE, then yes it is. Here were are two years since launch and while the 360 has gone down in price, the PS3 has done so only at the expense of functionality. It's like saying 'here's this brand new car, that if you paid full price for it the first year it was out, you got all of the toys with it, but since you waited till it dropped a bit, we took out the radio, defroster and put all donuts on the car in lieu of real tires. Enjoy'.
A longer warranty would definitely be great but 1 year is fine IMO. It's a console made by a company that specializes and has made consumer electronics for decades and knows how reliable their product is after proper R&D, unlike a certain software maker that can't get their console fixed after years on the market due to design flaws.
I guess you never had a six month old PS1's laser die on you out of nowhere? Or a PS2 with Disc Read Errors? They're far from a perfect company when it comes to designing game systems. While some may retort that "I never had a dead laser in my PS1 or PS2 and I still have my originals", MANY DID and Sony was even SUED last gen over the PS2.
So, it's just Microsoft's turn, albeit they've really

ed up royally.
People pay much more than $400 for televisions and they often have 90 day warranties. I have a $2000 receiver that has a one year warranty on it. Where were you when the PS2 and original Xbox had 90 day warranties and came out for nearly the same price tag?
One year is completely fine for a piece of electronics, especially for something like the PS3 that has had a very minimal failure rate up to this point. Your friends consoles lasted 2 years? Good for them. My 360 died 3 months after I bought it. What's your point?
Do you complain this much when your car has a problem and it's out of warranty? You likely paid thousands of dollars for it and were given a 3 year warranty (or less if used). Where's your outrage there?
Actually, the PS2 and Xbox both came out at $299.99, if I remember correctly. That's why my jaw just dropped when I saw the pricetag for the 360 and PS3 this gen. While it was almost 10 years since the start of the PS2/Xbox/GC gen when the 360 and PS3 released, a nearly 100% jump in price was just plain ridiculous and probably one of the main reasons why people seemed to gravitate to the Wii more.
As for the car thing, I buy beaters and run them into the ground. If they need a minor part or two but are otherwise reliable for me, then I get the part installed, since it is a regular part of owning a vehicle. Parts do break, but when the PS3 breaks it's $150 FLAT RATE(no matter what the

they do to it), plus once it's out of warranty you gotta shell out for shipping on TOP of that.
I'm sorry, but my mechanic looks at my car and tells me what's wrong and tells me what it should cost to fix it BEFORE I agree to pay ANY money. You're not telling me that if my BR drive dies on my PS3, that it's still costing Sony THAT much in manpower and parts to replace it. It's

in' ridiculous.
as long as there arent any issues that they knew about when the sent them out to be sold , the way the 360 was, i think the warranty is fine as is. side from having to reformat mine once its been a standup machine so far. if anything i wish the system had more games i wanted on it. wish we had more worthwhile dlc and psn games.
i guess my biggest wish would be that they released more ps1/2 games on the psn.
especially those hard to find for a good price games like rez or ico. or those games you may have missed out on like re outbreak 1&2.
I had Rez and Ico already and I hated both games. I bought Rez from Hollywood Video for $10 or so and Ico new from Sears on clearance for $10 a couple of years back. They're not that hard to find if you look in the right spots.
As for the downloable PS2 games, I'd rather not pay twice to be able to play my old games. But until the PStwo stops selling, they will never work on software BC for everyone.
Final note: How did I know this was going to turn into a mainly 'Microsoft sucks and Sony are perfect and infallible' thread? Brand loyalty means squat to these companies, the only thing they want off of you is your money.
I'm just shocked Mana Knight didn't come in yet to defend them.
