If maximum volume hair, denim cut-off jackets and a relentless fist-fight sounds like a good evening out to you, Xbox Live Arcade could well save you an ASBO!

Classic 80's side-scrolling beat-em-up, Double Dragon, is confirmed for a Marketplace debut...

Featuring the brothers Lee as they battle through a post Nuclear NYC, searching for a kidnapped young damsel in distress, you fight against an evil organisation known as the Black Warriors. Whilst trying to rescue the girl and safeguard the secrets of the Double Dragons simetaneously, players will punch, kick and headbutt their way towards a final showdown with machine gun wielding bad boy, Willy Mackey. Oo-er. Weighing in at a colossal(!) 12.56MB, Double Dragon isn't the largest Arcade title you will set your active download manager on, but nonetheless it features enhanced graphics and supports co-operative play across Xbox Live.

Neither cost or an exact release date has been confirmed, although we will not see it dropping tomorrow, as Xbox Live Wednesday this week is set to be occupied by an update for Texas Hold'em (click here for more). But this game leads yet another wave of strong Arcade titles including the cell-shaded hoverboard shooter, Street Trace: NYC, and the 'game & watch' nostalgia offered by Root Beer Tapper!

fucking yes :applause: Can't wait to get this and do some co-op

Co-op on this sounds awesome. Still shooting for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:The Arcade Game or The Simpsons Arcade game though.

Have any of you played this lately? It's awful, IMO. I can't believe how many quarter I put into this machine back in the day. I guess multiplayer over Live would be fun but I'd rather it be The Simpsons or TMNT for some 4 player action.

Nice! Hopefully this will pave the way for more co-op classics like TMNT and The Simpsons (although I'm not sure if copyright technicalities will allow those two *crosses fingers*).

[EDIT] wow the two guys above me had the exact same thought right while I was posting this.

if TMNT: The Arcade Game, Simpsons The Arcade Game or that X-Men arcade game (that five or six player one way back) ever come out on XBLA, forget about it - i'll be lost in them for months.

Oh well, to each his own I guess. I wa playing it on my MAME cab a few weeks ago and the entire time all I could think about was other brawlers that I'd rather be playing...

on top of that, the GBA version is miles ahead of the arcade in every way.

btw its starting time again to bust out some back and forth elbows Spike and Hammer style... forget billy and jimmy

Yea the GBA version is so good that it will be hard to go back to the arcade (The only GBA game I have spent more time playing is SFII:TR). I will get it anyways though because Double Dragon is still a great game.

You know what I announced about XBLA? There are alot of announcements but not alot of actual games that come out.

I've been more excited about the games they've announced than the ones they are shoving down our throats... Fatal Fury Special, Double Dragon, Worms, Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers, the new Mutant Storm game.

Maybe that's the problem with XBLA... they keep announcing the kick ass stuff and keep giving us duds.

OMFG!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I need Battletoads!
Hay guys, I'm announcing Battletoads for the XBLA. Release date and price unconfirmed. it might be next week, it might be 4 years from now...you wouldn't believe how much effort goes into porting a 565 kb game to a system with 3 cores and a flux capacitator.

I'll definately download it if it's better than Contra. But guessing at the lack of time they throw these retro games together, I'm not counting on this one being any good. I'd rather play Double Dragon 2 (I felt this one was the best anyway).

Your feeling is not wrong. It was a better game.

I don't XBLA too much, because at least they offer online play and enhanced other elements (better than someone else we all know..), but it does seem like there lots of announcements and very few games. You'd think we'd see the original Perfect Dark by now, or Quake, or Duke Nukem, etc. There's lots of games that could be done and very little actually coming out. All of which makes me think these games maybe aren't selling as well as they hope.

Im happy with 1 good XBLA game a month, most of these games are old so its always gonna be hit or miss.

UMK3 october
Small Arms Nov
??? Dec

Also people keep bitching about games not coming out ASAP, saying you cant fuck up a 32 mb game . These same people said "awesome" when contra was announced and now they cant shut up about how much it sucks. Chances are double dragon will be the same.

You are most likely going to pay $5 for a 12 mb game, afterall. Yet people will still say oh id rather have the superior gba version, just like they said they would rather have the nes version of contra. Like i said then, its called xbox live arcade for a reason. If theres an arcade version of the game, thats the port you will get.

Im still glad to hear this announced, but then again im not expecting much out of it, like jav mentioned earlier there are better brawlers around.

wow, that screenshot is ugly. Never played the arcade one, but a ton of the GBA version, and NES. Gonna pass on this. Give us KILLER INSTINCT ALREADY

I'd have made a case, but i'm lacking access to any image programs now..

Wow, nice....hopefully it holds up and brings back the great arcade memories. Most of these games just seem lacking to me now, but some still are great...

excellent news though

Remember at the end after you kill the gun-wielding boss, you have to fight among the two of you, to see who would get the girl? LOL!!!!!!!!! What a wacky way to end a game.

Cool deal about DD, hopefully they include both the original and improved gfx version as they usually do for older ones..
I can't wait. I played this game to death on Sega Master System.
Hey me too! It was the only console port that was true to the Arcade version. I must have beaten it 200 times as a kid. My best friend who was an NES owner was over all the time playing co-op Double Dragon. I remember when I first heard the news it was coming to the SMS started calling my local Toys R Us daily to see if had come in yet.

I remember when this game was announced for the Sega Master System - it was one of the most anticipated titles for that system, since third-party arcade translations were few and far between. Plus that system's software lineup paled in comparision to the NES, so it was easy to get overly excited for releases like this. But I remember, after months of delays, seeing this behind the glass at the TRU, with the Double Dragon logo set on those old Sega grid boxes.

Now, it's a good game, but I don't know if I'd get too excited about a $5 retro game with crappy graphics that I can finish in a setting.

Does anyone else think that they'll find a way to ruin this game?

Contra for NES was great. But the Xbox Live version was the sh*tty arcade version which sucked.

Yeah. Who would have thought the Xbox Live Arcade would have an arcade version of a game?

Quit complaining. We got an update to an old game today!

Actually I made a bitching thread about all this crap this morning.

Yay! I hope that they add River City Ransom next. With a great holiday season right now, Xbox should be pumping XBLA games non-stop to go against Wii and the VC

Double Dragon was one of mytop 5 games from the NES. I will buy this. Hopefully its only 400 points.
