Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies - For Liquid Metal we would Slime!
Probably why I'm having such a hard time on the last boss. I didn't power-level skills and traits - I distributed them equally. Although now I'm training in classes for the stat boosts, like paladin for my priest so she has extra resilience.
i just figured it takes a lot less time to go from 1-18 than it does to go from 25-30...

not to mention there are some skills i think are absolutely necessary, like half-inch and psyche up that everyone should have.

@adriley: I would take out the Minstrel and turn him into a Gladiator or Paladin, the base stats are so much better.
OK, where the hell do you do this? I'm about 8 hours in and well past that part where I could use tag mode, but I don't see an option to download quests anywhere.

Bear in mind that the lady behind the counter in the Inn that you need to talk to may not show up when you first get there, she didn't for me until I went back several hours later. So if she's not there (to the right of the Alchemy Pot) then come back later. I'm not sure what triggered her to show up.

Beat the last boss after 5-6 tries, but not I'm stuck at
Leviatian the 2nd time in the quest to unlock the Train to fly around freely. He uses the tidal wave and criticals like a motherfucker!

Where's a good place to grind levels in the post game if you haven't gotten the

You'll have
to fight the real Lleviathan now. He's not much harder than the previous one,

so if you've defeated Corvus, this should be a "no-problem" to you.

Tried and true place to level up is the Bowhole where the easy lms spawns.
Tried and true place to level up is the Bowhole where the easy lms spawns.
I found the ledge next to Angel Falls best for me since I encounter Liquid Metal Slimes fairly frequently there (of course they don't appear quite as often as The Bowhole) but they come in larger packs. The downside is that when training lower levels it's more dangerous and that they can be really damned difficult to see in the trees.

Once you're in your 50's, finding a grotto with a Metal King Slime is probably your top priority. It'll be easier to find them the higher level you are as the grottos you get as rewards from the grotto bosses will be better overall.

I've tried both and used both. I have shit luck at Angel Falls getting lms to appear consistently but at least there are regular metal slimes and medleys there, which are more than fine at lower levels. Then I usually switch to Bowhole around level 30 where they are much more frequent, even if you only get one per battle.

Indeed, there is no one next to the alchemy pot, and I've had that site around for 4-5 hours of gameplay now (and am off at the Tower of Trades right now). Do you think you have to have an active Wifi connection for her to show up? Since I'm traveling (currently sitting in the Phoenix airport, the hellhole that it is :bomb:) I've had only sporadic Wifi access.

As for the game, I don't want to read back and look into spoilers, so is there any missable item/event I should know about in advance? Just a general warning (town name, etc). Like I said I am currently on the path to finding the Abbot so I can, presumably, change jobs. Is there any reason to do so? If I save points now can I spend them on the new job attributes or do those attributes carry over anyway?
LMS just outside Angel Falls? Why am I just learning this now?
Post-game bro.

Gonna do some treasure maps after grinding for a while. But here is my wishlist for whenever I grind next:
-Train Gladiator in a magic class so I can up his ridiculous 17 MP.
-Train one of my sages in priest and mage to get magical mending and magical might up (my other sage already did this).

changing classes is important! do it! changing classes then, then farming metal slimes in coffinwell is a good way to jack up your skill points.

when changing classes, you keep all skills acquired through skill points. you don't keep any spells learned from the classes. note that if you can't equip the weapon, you can't use the weapon skill.

also, you can hoard skill points. you can collect 50 in thief and then class change back to minstrel and put it all in minstrel ability if you wanted to. this is key. this makes the game so much easier.

OMG, you can hoard skill points.
I did not know this. Thx a bunch

I just got the Rusty Sword and will be making Edricks Sword now.

Also Im gonna change my Minstrel to a Gladitor but he's good right now and only level 16 as a Gladitor. Im gonna upgrade him and the mage post game. Like my team the way it is now.

Will be trying the cool trick now.

Finally got the
train

I don't know about this post game stuff. I was enjoying the grottos at first, but it seems like there's no progress being made and all I get are lvl 12-14 grottos.

Fought
Baramos
and I got owned. I think I need to grind a bunch of lvls first.

I like having set goals to do and knowing where to go next. This post game stuff is too wide open for me.

I'll give it a try, but I've never been for post game stuff.

Finally beat it.
The final 3 bosses were a lot easier than Super forms of Gottingham Palace bosses. Especially that Panther. So what's up with the "To be continued..." part?

I think they just mean there's a substantial post-game.

What level maps you get seems to be a lot of luck plus some algorithms that are posted on the gamefaqs boards (as a sticky...). Sometimes you'll get lucky and get a higher-level map than the one you just beat, sometimes you'll get screwed.

You mean Treasure maps? I've only gotten one map so far, and I'm pretty sure that's near impossible to miss. I haven't even unlocked all of the classes yet.

Gah.. i've been unable to connect to to DQVC for most of this week.. is the thing having issues, or is it just me? its connecting to my wifi.. just not pulling anything down
Anyone else planning to venture out and grab the Gamestop map tomorrow? I'm hoping for some tags as well....
I'll try, but I wish they weren't so spread out.

OK, yeah, I went back to the Inn and the Wifi person was there. Of course, the stupid free airport Wifi didn't work because it makes you hit "Accept" on a web page before connecting and that always hoses up DS connections since you obviously can't do that on it. Bah... Well, now I'm home so I'll try it here.

And damn - those tag events are only at 2 of the 20 or so GS stores around me. And both are just about the furthest they can be so I don't think I'll be able to make that. Too bad - maybe the Best Buy ones will be a little more accomodating.

So I'm headed to Gamestop.. I'm really hoping I can just put it in Tag Mode and drive by slowly and that will be sufficient, though I have a sinking feeling I'm going to have to go in and deal with Nintendo reps.

I'll be heading to the event today. I'll just get the map and go though because I'll be in a bit of a hurry.

I got
The train back
Choo Choo, bitches!
so I guess now I can explore a little bit before I put it down for good.
Overall, I'd give the game a very solid 8 out of 10. Worth the money, but I wish stuff like Tag Mode was implemented over wi-fi. Because if it was, I'd just stick my DS on tag mode all day through WFC.

Dunno if I'm going to the event or not. It's either go down to campus (of my alma mater) or go into the ghetto, both of which are kind of inconvenient. I'm also sick with a sinus infection, and my husband is at Otakon and I don't really want to go alone to this sort of thing, especially as a female gamer and considering the locations. :/

Oh yeah, and the store sucked today. Got a mini medal and that's it.

My event isn't for another 2 hours. It says it lasts 3 hours, but I guess you can go anytime so I figure the best chance is to show up right when it starts and hopefully that'll be when the most people are there. I'm not staying 3 whole hours, I know that.
Questions:
How do you upgrade the Stornway Inn and how do you get VIP's?
I think
the upgrades result from tags and VIP from WiFi. I haven't upgraded, but I've gotten a VIP.

My store was okay today.
Some cool alchemy stuff and a dress and the ice shield which I already had but bought any way.

I'll go too, but not for 3 whole hours.

Are they just gonna have a DS out with tag mode, or will there be Nintendo reps?

Hopefully I'll get some tags too.

So, job switching and skill point hoarding...

Say I've got my Martial Artist. I eventually want to use him as a Warrior for the stat buffs (maybe? or bad idea?) and turn him into something like a Gladiator later on for damage. So. Let's call him Rhaz. Rhaz just hit 20. So what I could do is this:

Switch to mage. Grind to the point where the farmable metal slimes aren't so fast anymore. Accumulated skill points - don't spend.
Switch to priest. Repeat.
Go back to MA/Warrior, spend accumulated skill points on their class skill or a weapon skill.

That...that sounds like what people are doing? Also, is there a list of skills so I can find out which class ones are most beneficial to each other?

Okay, I went before the event I guess, because there were no Nintendo reps there. The GS guys had turned on the DS, but I helped them set it up because neither of them knew how it worked. So I got the map but didn't get any other tags since I went so early.

If you do go, make sure you go in instead of just walking by. You might get the tag, but they also have some cool swag to give away, t-shirts and stickers (I somehow managed to get over the shame of being a grown man and getting excited when someone handed me a sheet of stickers)

I want some DQ swag. I want a DQ poster.

Just so anyone that hasnt bought it yet.
At KMart you will get LoZ: Spirit Tracks free

I'm back from the event.

There was a Nintendo rep there, and about 8 or 9 other people showed up in the hour I was there. The only swag I snagged was a slime shirt, they were also giving away stickers and a poster but I passed on those. I can throw up a picture of the shirt if anyone's interested. Oh yeah and I got 5 or 6 maps from everyone. I tried the NOA one which said level 1 but got my butt kicked. The others were in the 70's so I have no chance of those probably, but hopefully I can finish them in time for the BB event so I can pass them on.

How did everyone else do?

Well, crap, the Best Buy list is even worse than the GS one. They are doing it at ONE Best Buy in my entire state (when there are at least 8-10 of them) and it is the same location as one of the 2 GS stores. You'd think they could mix it up a bit.

So I might try to get to the GS one today anyway, though it means dragging the whole family along. And probably the swag is limited so I'd miss out on the shirt (which would be my main reason for going ;)). I probably can't get there till 3.

It's a level 1 legacy boss, so even then those can be pretty tricky until you're at the higher levels.

Kind of wish I'd known there was a set time frame for it rather than going early, would have been cool to get some tags, though I don't really need the maps.

On another note, maybe it's just me but it seems like once you get into the very high levels you start leveling up VERY quickly. My main character is now at level 90, and he seems to be leveling up way more frequently than my other characters, who are at lower levels. Am I crazy, or has anyone else noticed this too?

The difference between levels is probably smaller at higher levels and the higher level characters receive more experience, so I don't think it's too surprising.

I'll be driving relatively close by one of the two Gamestops in my city doing the event, but I won't have time to go by it since I'll be carpooling some family to a family party. I'll bring my DS with me and keep it in tag mode on the off chance I somehow get lucky as hell. Don't think I'll drive out of my way on the way back either. Most of my time is being taken up with Starcraft 2 anyhow.

Just got back from Gamestop. FYI, you can only tag with 3 people at a time, then you have to stop Tag Mode and talk to the guests and then start it again, so the drive-by probably won't work. In addition to a T-shirt and stickers, I got the following level maps:

1 (Zoma's)
8
10
15
16
20
23
26
29
37
41
43
52
64

So a pretty good spread overall. I look forward to trying them out later to see if they have good booty or metal slimes.

I only have 2 free slots now in my treasure map list (I assume it maxes out at 2 pages?). Should I go to another Gamestop to try for more higher-level maps or just stick with what I got? Note that I haven't even beaten the one default map you get from the guy near Zere rocks yet.

I went to the gamestop listed on the website and they didn't even have the event. I was there for an hour hoping they were going to set something up.

I r disappoint.

Edit: this was in miami btw

If you're thinking of literally just driving by I don't think it would work. I noticed it took about 15-20 seconds to make a connection with someone else and download their character/map.

If anyone gets some spare Posters or T Shirt I would gladly pay shipping for it.
Don't even care if it's media mail.
I really want a DQ poster but live 4 hrs from the nearest one.

Nah it's a couple miles off of the highway that I'll be taking. All I can hope is that someone in a nearby car driving in the same direction on the highway as me will have their DS in tag mode. Which is as likely as DoK praising Ignition for good translations.

Went to the tag event in Roseville, MN and got 23 tags and one of the metal slime maps. Not too many people were giving out maps though. Ate lunch at the mall and actually got a tag there too! The parking lot and the strip mall were all tore up.

Was surprised to see them giving out T-shirts, stickers, a DS Lanyard, a cleaning cloth, and a poster. I wasn't expecting that. I managed to get everything but the T-Shirt, but didn't get there soon enough to get a T-shirt. I wanted to do some multiplayer, but everybody left quick.

Hopefully if I get to Best Buy soon enough next week, I'll be able to score a T-shirt.

I wish I would've known, otherwise I'd have gotten you one. Will you go to the other events? I admit, the give aways were a surprise to me.

Another surprise was the age of people there. Most of them were in their late 20-early 30s, although there were a few kids with their parents too.
